Window.opener

HI,
We've got an external ITS application with a popup window to call.
we called it with:
var w1=window.open('', '', windowprops);
w1.document.write("<html><head></head><body>Hello World</body></html>");
and it worked well.
But on internal ITS it doesn't work anymore. (it creates an empty IE6-page - on Firefox it still works)
any suggestions?
A similar problem is also, that (from the popup window) we cannot receive data out of the source page e.g.:
document.getElementById('abc').innerHTML = this.opener.document.getElementById('def').value;
"this" means the popup window object.
this.opener gives an empty object (and thats the problem!)
This problem occurs in both browsers, IE6 and FF.
We use SAP ECC 6.0.

no, sorry.
That was the wrong OSS number. I found the right one, and we patched our system accordingly - but the problem still persists.
any other suggestions?

  • Problem with Sessions and window.open

    Hi,
    Hi everyone,
    Help Please!!!
    I am working with Sevlet session objects and HTML forms and windows. I have an HTML form for the user to supply a username and password. Once the user clicks submit I need to open another browser window that has no toolbar, no location, no status bar, etc. The user should also be able to go back to that login screen and login again and open a 2nd, 3rd, etc. instance of the application. My problem is that each application is being asigned the same sessionId. I believe it is being asigned to the main login window and thus to the other child windows it opens. Is there a way to work around this? Do I need to make the user open another browser window to login? I need to be able to let the user open multiple instances of the application with unique session ids for each.
    Any insight is GREATLY appreciated on this topic. Anything you can tell me about sessions (Java), IE, window.open would help greatly!
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
    MA

    To achieve this, you must introduce another level of
    abstraction to the Servlet specifications. When you
    work with JSP/Servlets you use mostly the HttpSession
    to handle user related tasks, and the aplication
    context, for things that are common to all users. But
    inside the HttpSession scope, you want to create
    containers that have 'smaller' scope and are uniquely
    identified.
    A ipothetical scenario :Let's say that you must have
    multiple connections to several databases, on each
    database user rights beeing diferrent, and you must be
    able to track user actions globaly, and eventualy
    capture a 'Close Application event' and close all db.
    connections.
    1. when the user first accesses the login frame create
    the HttpSession. In the HttpSession object, store a
    Hastable (let's call it 'ConnectionTable'). Each
    object in the Hashtable must identify uniqely a
    database connection. Now, to create unique identifiers
    ids, make the keys in the hashtable java.lang.Long
    objects, created using System.getCurrentTimeMillis().
    This guaranties there will be no possible confusion.
    From each new open window, on each request to the
    server, along with the usefull parameters, send the
    connection identifier. When proccessing the request,
    select the object from the Hastable wich corresponds
    to the ID.
    2. Now, the values in the ConnectionTable, must act as
    the containers that I mentioned in the first
    paragraph. The simplest way to do this is to have
    again a Hashtable derived class to do the job, wich
    exploses methods similar to HttpSession: setAttibute (
    Object key, Object value) and getAttibute ( Object
    key, Object value). This container may use internally
    a Hashtable to store object, and explose only the
    getAttribute and setAttribute methods for clarity. Any
    way, this is a problem of implementation. Let's call
    this class CustomSession.
    Now, a textual activity diagram:
    1 user accesses the main page, you start a new
    HttpSession; In the HttpSession object, store the
    ConnectionTable object.
    2. the user enters the userID and pwd and adatabase
    name, and a new window is opened. Let's supose the
    data entered is valid.
    3. when you process the login data, you create a new
    CustomSession object. you put in it whatever you would
    put in your HttpSession. You generate a unique
    identifier using System.CurrentTimeMillis(). Put the
    CustomSession object in the ConnectionTable, using the
    generated id as key. Send the response.
    ..... later on .....
    100. the user asks for a particular action to be
    performed - e.g. a row deletion. The page contains a
    form with text field where the user introduces the
    row number, a submit button and a hidden input with
    the ID.
    101. you process the data. Get the ID from the request
    object, get the ConnectionTable from the session, get
    the CustomSession using the ID as key, do whatever
    your logic was doing, but obtaining the objects from
    the CustomSession instead of HttpSession
    NicNic,
    Very slick idea. I think that it could work and it seems that there would be not security issues because the id that you would store on the client side is the Unique Identifier and not the actual Session Id. Do you forsee any security issues for this implementation?

  • When I have multiple browser windows open - but in the "minimized" mode - and I want to open up one of them for viewing, ALL of the windows automatically open as well. How do I prevent this annoying function. I cannot find it anywhere in the options.

    This does not appear to be a system issue, but rather a functional aspect of the browser windows. E.g., if I have 7 browser windows open to different sites... and all are Minimized, and I decide to open one to study, THEY ALL POP OPEN automatically. I am using Firefox v3.6.8 on Windows 7. This is an annoying behavior of the browser, and I am sure it can be somehow "turned off" but cannot determine how to do that. I have looked through all options. I am not a techie, but have reasonable proficiency with software apps.

    This can happen if you drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking.
    Firefox has a feature called tear-off tabs
    You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
    You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window
    You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

  • Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, every time I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open.

    I am running Firefox 3.6.3 on my Mac G5 and my MacBook.
    Since I installed Firefox 3.6.3, everytime I open Google Notifier, two Firefox browser windows open. This happens on both of my computers.
    This never used to happen before, in the earlier versions.
    How do I make it so that only one browser window opens?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed Firefox 3.6.3 ==
    == User Agent ==
    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10_4_11; en) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7

    I got this all screwed up too.
    hmm.. where to start?
    3.6 and 4.0 beta - really aren't intended to play well together.
    As has been mentioned above, they tend to write over each other.
    I managed to get both 3.6.15 and 4.0 beta 12 on the same machine.
    But, I had to do it several times.
    I got lucky by deleting everything Mozilla, then installing 4.0b12, then 3.6.15 - while making sure that each installed into a separate folder.
    I also took care to copy out a couple of BookMark BackUp files - just in case.
    My old 3.6# had become so bloated - and, Unstable - for Me, it was time.
    The bookmarks were all that I was still interested in.
    All the Plugins, Themes, AddOns, etc... had slowed the app to a crawl.
    So, I did as complete a wipe of Mozilla bloat code that I could, including profiles.
    I then did some registry cleaning.
    Then I installed 4.0b12 and 3.6.15.
    I can't open them both at the same time.
    If I open 3.6.15 first, then open 4.0b12 - the beta comes up as 3.6.15.
    If I open 4.0b12 first, then open 3.6.15 - the 3.6 comes up as the beta.
    This has a lot to do with both apps sharing the same default profile.
    I hope to drop down to one app in the near future.
    So, cobbling multiple profiles in order to diddle side by side apps - isn't worth it at this stage.
    For me, I can't open FF 4.0b12 when my virus protection is running. PCTools doesn't like some thing about the way FF4.0 wants to phone home when it opens.
    So, I can't commit to the 4.0b12, yet.
    3.6.15 was crashing on open too - until I uninstalled the feedback addon. - go figure -.
    Also, I can't get the 4.0b12 to start in safe-mode with the PCTools antivirus running.
    At the rater they are going, I don't see 3.6.# going away any time soon.

    Since I started using FireFox version 4, every time I open a "new window", all other instances of FireFox windows open up. This is annoying as it often covers up instances I am currently using with instances that I don't wish to use right now. I can't seem to find a way to keep this behavior from occurring.

  • How to get the window.opener object into a model window

    Hi,
    I m opening a new popup window with the help of window.showModalDialog(url,self,''). Now i want to access the opner window inside this popup window. Since this showModalDialog does not support window.opener so i passed 'self' as parameter and if i want to access the parent window i can access it with the help of window.dialogArguments . But the problem is window.dialogArguments is not an object .
    for e.g.
    var caller = window.opener
    then caller can be used as object but if i do like this
    var caller = window.dialogArguments
    then i can't use caller as an object.
    Can anybody tell me the correct way.
    manish

    Hi Manish,
    I'm trying to use as well showModalDialog in IE and in the same time have a similar experience in other browsers (like Firefox) - similar to the Hotmail Empty Junk mail button, so here is a piece of code you might be interested in:
      Caller page
      // showModalDialog for Non-IE browsers
      if (!window.showModalDialog) {
        window.showModalDialog = function(sUrl, vArguments, sFeatures) {
          var wFeatures   = sFeatures.replace(/dialog/gi,"").replace(/:/gi,"=").replace(/;/gi,",");  // plus a little more replacement
          var modalWindow = window.open (sUrl, "_blank", wFeatures);
          modalWindow.setFocusToWindow = function () {
            modalWindow.focus();
          modalWindow.setInterval ("setFocusToWindow()", 100);
      // Show modal dialog...
      window.showModalDialog ("modal_dialog.html", self, "dialogHeight: 300px; dialogWidth: 400px; center: yes; help: no; status: no")
      modal_dialog.html
      // IE only - other browsers will be fine
      if (window.dialogArguments) {
        window.opener = window.dialogArguments;
      // Write something back in the opener window
      window.opener.document.write ("here you go...");

    Hi all,
    We have one portlet application where a jsp page has a link which opens as a child window using the window.open function in javascript.

    Hello,
    One potential reason why it isn't working for you is that the Java Portlet specifications (JSR168 and JSR286) don't allow URLs to be manipulated once they are created with a a portlet:xxxURL tag. The reason for this is that the portlet container needs to be able to rewrite the URLs to properly go back through the portal framework (or over WSRP if running the portlet remotely) and to encode all the parameters needed. The portal framework could even change it from a URL to a Javascript action, where simply appending extra "&paramName=someValue" onto the end of the generated URL won't work. So this:
    <form action="<portlet:actionURL secure="true"/>&action=save&_pageLabel=ABC" method="post">isn't legal by the portlet specification-- if you want to add parameters to the actionURL, you can by doing this:
    <form action="<portlet:actionURL secure="true"><portlet:param name="action" value="save"/><portlet:param name="_pageLabel" value="ABC"/></portlet:actionURL>" method="post">which will add the parameters to the URL in a way that will always work with the portal framework.
    One other thing to note- it looks like you're just trying to copy all of the action parameters in the request into render parameters in the response; this can be done much easier like this:
    response.setRenderParameters(request.getParameterMap());Kevin

  • Problem with window.close and window.open

    I am having two suspected Actionscript problems which only seem to be happening with Flash player 9 and later.
    BACKGROUND:
    I have a client who needs browser-launched swf files to play from a CD-ROM (I do not want to use the Flash projector).  These files were created a few years ago using Actionscript 1 & 2 code and everything has worked perfectly until now.
    Here is the setup:
    First, an autorun file on the root of the CD runs and writes a 'trust file' to the 'Macromed' directory.  The autorun next launches 'index.htm' which is simply an html page containing a series of links (topic1.htm; topic2.htm; and so on). Next, let's assume the student clicks the 'topic1.htm' link from the 'index.htm' page.  The 'topic1.htm' link launches a web page (also located on the CD) which contains and displays 'topic1.swf'.  So far, everything works fine.
    Here is where the two problems happen.
    Problem 1:
    I have an 'Exit' button within each swf (remember each swf is contained inside an html page).  The 'Exit' button has always worked properly, but suddenly does not work in Flash player 9.  I am using the following Actionscript 2 code on the 'Exit' button:
    on (release) {
    getURL("javascript:window.close()");
    The 'Exit' button has always worked using this code (and still works in Flash player 8 and lower).  However, it does nothing when played using Flash player 9.
    Problem 2:
    There are links to html popup windows within the 'topic1.swf' file (remember 'topic1.swf' is contained inside 'topic1.htm').  Each popup window contains a swf file that is used to present a demonstration.  When the student clicks the 'demo1.htm' link from 'topic1.swf', an html popup window SHOULD load and display 'demo1.swf' inside the 'demo1.htm' window.  The main ('topic1.htm') window stays open so that the student can return to the topic after completing the demo.  This has always worked properly until Flash player 9.  Here is the Actionscript 2 code
    which I am using on the button inside 'topic1.swf' to launch 'demo1.htm':
    on (release) {
                getURL("javascript:launchWin2('webpage2.html');");
    ADDITIONAL INFO:
    'topic1.htm' contains the following code which is used to support the Actionscript code listed under 'Problem 2' above.
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript>
    <!--
    var padvar="";
    var childwind;
    function launchWin2(arg) {
    openWin2(arg);
    function openWin2(arg) {
    childwind = window.open(arg,"padwind2","menubar=no,location=no,status=no,scrollbars=no,width=750px,he ight=500px,left=0,top=0");
    //-->
    </SCRIPT>
    I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.  I am wondering if the problem has to do with a need to use ONLY Actionscript 3 code from Flash player 9 onwards.
    Thanks!
    Terry

    For some time now and after firefox has automatically been updated a few times, I click on images or links which are supposed to open in a new window automatically. A new window opens but it is blank with no toolbars, just an adress bar with nothnig in it.

    mha007, Thank you. I walked through your suggested solutions and finally disabled all add-ons and restarted them one by one. The culprit seems to be ViewSourceWith 0.8.11. Interestingly when it is enabled I had to go to TaskManager to force Firefox to quit.
    Maybe this information will help others. I don't know if the cache clearing etc helped but I would suggest that others start but Bringing up Firefox in Safe Mode (hold shift when you select the icon), disable all add-ons and then start them one by one.
    Of course if you have ViewSourceWith maybe you should just disable it first rather than go through the tedium of restarting each add-on separately. To get to the add-ons when it won't open from the toolbar type about:addons in the address area.

    FF worked fine before I accepted the latest update just a few days ago. My friend who lives far away said that she also has problems since the upgrade. When I click on the thumbnail to open FF no window opens, all I see is the crash report. Without the window I can't try the self-helps or give a crash ID (from what I understand from reading the options). None of the options in the crash report restore the browser. When I click on one, the box just pops right back up.
    Other than general slowness of my system and some possible hacking which got someone into my paypal account this week, I've had no other computer issues. (I've changed my email address with PP & changed my email passwords in case someone is accessing my machine through my email...I'm not very computer literate...I don't believe this can happen, yet no other options were presented).
    Because my friend also experienced this crash issue I think this is totally related to the upgrade & what ever it did to my computer such that FF no longer loads.
    Please give me steps to fix this issue without FF running--all the self-help techniques seem to assume that I can run FF, get a browser window, utilize the links therein. I can't get a window open at all!

    the js function to window.open() is in pageAA on a tab.
    We click the form or link to open the popup to run a video.
    We have a close button on the popup window.
    When that is clicked the window.close() js is executed on that page leaving Zotero present and the popup still open.
    We've tried using close() window.close() name.window.close() and
    all fail the same way.
    Short of disabling Zotero is there a way to close the popup in FF and any other addons with one shot?

    Thank's but still no fix.
    In safe mode everything works.
    Without Zotero - everything works.
    When the popup is loaded with Zotero, the tab shows a constant "Loading" with the circular in process icon.
    The Zotero icon shows to the left of the tab.
    If I right click on Zotero and close it, the close() js works properly
    Is there a way to do a window.open() with:
    A. no tabs -or-

    C. to kill an add on

    Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If you use tabs as a way of keeping a list of things to do or look at, you have to be careful if you have a second window open to close the second window before your main one, or you will lose your list. I'm absent minded though and do this all the time. The only way to prevent this is bookmark all my tabs once a day, but I tend to forget to do even that. Any workaround for this?

    When you re-open Firefox and choose Restore Session, by default it picks up your most-recently-open window, and the other windows should then show up in Recently Closed Windows.
    The Firefox add-on Session Manager lets you manage how many closed windows and closed tabs are saved, in case it's not enough.

  • When I have the downloads window open and I close the browser window, how can I get the browser to open the homepage the next time I start it while the download window is still open?

    When I have the downloads window open and I close the browser window, the next time I reopen the browser while the downloads are still going, it returns me to the last page I was on. All previous versions of Firefox would return me to my homepage which I would prefer. Please let me know if this is possible.
