Windows 7 Enterprise N SP1 64bit - inability to install Windows Media Player

Hello,
For last two days I am strugling to install WMP on to W7 ENT SP1 N 64bit.
This is now driving me crazy - thats what I have done till now :
I have two machines installed with Win 7 Ent N SP1 64 bit.
On both there is no possibility to install Media Feature Pack (Windows6.1-KB968211-x64-RefreshPkg)
Installer stops on windows (installing update 1 from 1.......) and CBS.log is growing very fast during the "installation".
I have left PC for at least 10 hours but nothing happens (and CBS.log grew till 154 GB!!!!).
The other computer acts the same.
What I have tried till now :
-sfc scan
-chkdsk scan
-renaming SoftwareDistribution folder
-disabling antivirus
Finally I have performed "Windows Upgrade Repair" which allowed me to install the update manually on administrator account.
Unfortunatelly after restart - there was some info about reverting failed update ??? and "Media features" and Media Pack was gone. Tried again and the same thing happened. At the third time the installation stuck on "Installing update screen"
and CBS.log started to grow again,
All automatic updates can be installed without any issues.
I cannot understand why you makes all thing so complicated - turning simple installation files into updates which does not work.
Please assist,
Best Regards
Greg

Hi,
I was looking for all possible solution I could find before :
- Clean boot - no effect
- Manual installation - the only way I know to install this patch  - still failed
- System Update Readiness Tool - detected no issues
- sfc scan - no issues
- fsutil resource setautoreset true
C:\ - no effect
- System Upgrade - no effect
- all antivirus and firewall disabled - anyway I am trying to install this at offline patch
- patch downloaded with different browsers
I will be appriciated for help. Is there any way to register all librarires related to WMP 12 manually ?
Many Thanks
Greg
I have come up with "workaround" - my issue was related to inability to run GTA V without proper WMP installation,
I have managed to copy some libraries from Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit /system32 folder and register them in my system. I have also copied Windows Media Player folder to my Program Files (x86).
Here is a list of dll's I have registered :
mf.dll
mfplat.dll
mfreadwrite.dll
WMASF.DLL
wmcodecdspps.dll
WMNetMgr.dll
wmp.dll
wmpcm.dll
WmpDui.dll
wmpdxm.dll
wmpeffects.dll
WMPEncEn.dll
WMPhoto.dll
wmploc.DLL
wmpmde.dll
wmpps.dll
wmpshell.dll
wmpsrcwp.dll
wmsgapi.dll
WMSPDMOD.DLL
WMSPDMOE.DLL
WMVCORE.DLL
WMVDECOD.DLL
wmvdspa.dll
WMVENCOD.DLL
WMVSDECD.DLL
WMVSENCD.DLL
WMVXENCD.DLL
I know it was a long shot but it works :) Now GTA V is running :)
To bulk register these dll's i have used a following code saves as a *.cmd file (all you need to do is to drag&drop libraries onto this file)
@echo off
echo registering files....
:check
if not test%1==test goto run
goto end
:run
echo registering:   %1  .....
regsvr32 "%1" /s
shift
goto check
:end
pause
exit
That is it,
Hopefully someone will not be forced to sit 40 hours and think what to do when Medai feature pack cannot be installed.
Still it would not be easier to get normal WMP installer ? Instead of that I had to struglle with one update which god knows why cannot be installed.
P.S.
It will not allow to run Windows Media Player !!!! It will just allow to play GTA V which needs some WMP libraries to run.
Best Regards
Greg

    Hi,
Based on your description, ED's suggestion is available. You could use gpresult command to export the group policy settings to check if there any group policy affect the installation.
About how to use it, please read the guide below:
How to Use the Group Policy Results (GPResult.exe) Command Line Tool

  • How to install move media player to watch tv shows online.

I cannot install move media player in safari. Please help?

    Hi
Not sure you mean "Windows Media Player"? If you do, it's not compatible with Intel based Macs. The alternative is to install 3rd party freeware Flip4Mac. This plug-in converts Windows Media Files to Quicktime.

  • Downloading and installing move media player

I have been trying to install move media player from abc.com and cwtv.com but neither works for me. Sometimes it will get to the Installing... part and then stop there. Sometimes it will get to the Cleaning Up.... part and then stop there. And other times it will just say cannot install.
    I have a macbook: 2.16 GHx Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I used to be able to watch shows on both until the other day. I did not change anything on my computer when this stopped working. I tried getting rid of all files from the previously downloaded move player. still didn't work.
I'm not sure what to do...

I searched for over 3 months for a solution to this problem and after i found it i had to create an account on here just so I could post a solution that worked for me.
First, one of the things that I discovered in my case was that if I looked in homedirectory/library/ i could not locate the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder. However if i looked in rootdirecotyr/library I was able to locate the folder. I copied this folder to my homedirectory/library folder. I then went to:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/faq
to download the movemedia installer. After that I went to ABC.com and tried to watch one of their "Free Full Episodes" which prompted me to download an update to the plug in I had just installed. After downloading and installing the update I was finally done!!! I hope this helps I know how increadibly frustrating it feels!!

  • CS4 hangs while installing Adobe Media Player

I am installing CS4 Design Premium on a MacBook. I can get past selecting what to install and when clicking install it does start to install the program. However, when it starts to install adobe media player it just hangs there. I have left it over night just in case this app takes a long time, but no luck in doing that.
Any suggestions? I would highly appreciate it.

  • Installing ABC Media Player

I am trying to install ABC media player from the ABC full episode website. I first tried installing using Safari, but after doing a bit of research on the internet, it looked like maybe I'd have better luck with Firefox. But all that is happening is that it keeps saying "loading" - which it has been doing for 15 minutes.
There was a similar posting on this website, but I was advised to start a new thread.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
(And by the way,the ABC automated feedback was useless.)

Actually, when I use Safari, I get a little farther. It gets up to the point where it says "installing" and then it freezes. Whereas with Firefox, it doesn't even get past the "loading" stage.
I checked the required versions, and it looks like I meet their requirements. I am using Safari Version 3.2.1 and Firefox version either 5.0 or 3.0.1 (couldn't tell which one it was.)

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64bit) shared folders no longer work with Windows 7 Pro but do work with WindowsXP & Windows 2003

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).

Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

  • How to solve inability to install Adobe Flash Player 11.5.502.146 for MSIE9

Update - 1/24/13:  After spending hours trying all of the suggestions on the web for Flash installation solutions, without any success, I installed IE10 (replacing IE9) and afterwards Flash Player installed successfully.
I am unable to install on Windows 7, the current downloaded standalone installer for Adobe Flash Player 11.5.502.146.  I uninstalled the old Flash Player using the adobe uninstaller.  Nothing happens after I double click the latest installer file named  install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtba_chra_dy_aih.exe. There are no error messages, all that happens is the installer file deletes itself.  I have checked in the Windows Task Manager for any active Flash Player processes and are there are none.   The online installer for Firefox worked fine and installed the Flash Player without problems.  I am unable to find any solutions on the adobe webpage "Flash Player Help - Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows" (linked to the download page).  I am up against a brick wall, and your assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I'm glad you were able to work around this.  I hope IE10 works well for you (I've been using it on Win8 but haven't tried the preview for Win 7 yet.)  In the future, you can also try to use the stand alone installers located here:

  • My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7, My Macbook pro won't install Windows 7

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook pro, with no luck. I have been able to create a Windows Partition via Bootcamp. And after the Windows 7 installation guide started to expand my Windows files, my Windows 7 CD suddenly stopped spinning. And after a while, the installation guide said that Windows couldn't be installed. And I had to turn off my Mac.

I would highly suggest restoring your Mac to factory settings.  Back up all files on externL hard drive first.  Then let the be the first thing u do.  Should resolve issues.   If computer is older and has been running under a certain operating system for a period of time it may not like the partition or may have corrupted files that restoring will wipe clean

  • Installing a Media Player

I am currently having problems using Quicktime .. I get Audio with the viewer window , but no video playing. I have heard about VLC Player ...... If this is an option ... how does a person install it so that when they are trying to view a video mov clip ... it uses VLC instead of Quicktime .... or is there an option for a person to pick and choose which media player they should try depending on what works or doesn't depending on the clip trying to be viewed. This is for the G3
    Thanks , Eric

Im not doing something correctly .... when I click on a video to watch when in Safari ..... the Quicktime icon opens up , but I don't see the video. only get the audio as before .... not sure or how to change it to the VLC Player ... I do not see a " Get Info " in Quicktime , as Safari shows as the only app running ..
