Windows 7 install error 0x80300024

Mac Pro with 4 internal hard drives. My primary startup drive (in bay #1) has 10.5 on it.
Wanted to install Windows 7, so needed Snow Leopard's Bootcamp to do that. The fourth hard drive in the machine was new, so wiped that, installed Snow Leopard, then used Boot Camp Assistant to add a partition to that drive for Windows.
Started the Windows 7 install (32 bit). Got to the screen where you choose which volume it will be installing onto, and selected the "BOOTCAMP..." labeled one. Pressed the Next button, which is where I encountered the 0x80300024 error.
That is, it said something like "Windows cannot be installed onto this drive. Error 0x80300024."
Found some posts here on the Apple forums, from The Hatter, advocating removing all the other hard drives when trying a Bootcamp install. The jist of it was, remove all other OS X system drives, or Windows gets confused about its install location. And, while you're at it, might as well pull ALL your other drives before the install for safety (so in my case, that meant the 10.5 system drive from bay #1, plus data drives from bays 2 and 3).
So I did that, re-ran the Boot Camp Assistant in Snow Leopard, having it start with the install. Now the Windows 7 install is going forward.
THANK YOU to THE HATTER!
It is a shame that nowhere on their support pages does Apple acknowledge install error 0x80300024. They really ought to add that to their Knowledge Base page on Boot Camp/Windows 7. That page is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986

Also, note that I would have added my comments to one of the threads where The Hatter had given his advice, but they are old enough to be closed for new comments.
Besides, it seems like a good idea to have a thread with the error code (0x80300024) in the subject line.

  • SSD's not working/ being detected - Windows install errors on HP Dv6-1149wm laptop

Okay, well I have tried three different brand new ssd's: 1. kingston v300 120gb SSD, 2. samsung 840 120gb ssd, and 3. another kingston v300 120gb SSD. Tried in that order.
The Kingston drives- Were not detected at all by the bios no errors or nothing, nada. When attached to a different computer running windows the drives are detected fine. nothing wrong there.
The Samsung drive- This was the second drive I tried. It was detected by the bios but diagnostics gave me the "303 quick" Error. When installing windows through a USB, it would ask me for drivers before proceeding. When installing from a cd, I could get to the point where I see the drive listed. I would get errors when I would try to partition it or format it. Not even partitioning the drive through command prompt using diskpart worked. It would return an error saying incorrect parameter or something like that (Note I was able to partition the drive here but not format to ntfs).  I could manually partition it on another system all the way. Formating/partitioning via a different system allowed me to get all the way into the installation up until the point where it says "installing features" then it gives me an error saying it was unable to set the system local - or something like that. On top of that I also tried installing windows on the other system which worked great but would not transfer over to the laptop. I also tried cloning the previos drive onto the ssd but when booting up the computer gave me a disk read error.
My personal desktop drive(OCZ Vertex 4 128GB)- This one worked fine. Computer diagnostics picked it up fine and didn't report errors. The only thing is I didn't try installing windows on it because I already had an install there.
My thoughts- My best guess is that there is some sort of incompatibility with the drives firmware and the computers BIOS. The Bios (Insyde h20 F.21) is very limiting to begin with, too user friendly and not much to do there, second it hasn't seen an update since 2011. Seems to me like SSD technology might be advancing quicker than HP can keep up with their updates (This of course assuming its the BIOS that is at fault)
I am open to ideas suggestions, basically anything that can help me out at this point. I've spent many hours on this and I have turned out empty.

    Hi,
I suggest to read this thread:

Your thoughts are exactly the same as mine. The motherboard doesn't like the firmware or the controller on the SSD.
This manual says that AMD doesn't support SSD:

  • Bootcamp - Windows install error

I'm trying to install Windows 8 on my iMac using bootcamp.  Everything seems to be going fine until I format the bootcamp partition.  Then, the Windows installer gives me the error "cannot create or locate partition, see setup logs for details."  Any suggestions?

So according to the FAQ, a thunderbolt device can cause this error.  I don't have any thunderbolt devices.  On a whim I unplugged my external drive and the installation went through with no problems.

  • Fresh Windows Install Error

For a while, I had the new Haswell rMBP triple-booting Ubuntu, OSX, and Win 8.1 all on pure EFI, but then I screwed it up with an update-grub. At the moment I'm trying to redo things and have a completely wiped drive, a Win Install USB and an Ubuntu Install USB. I'm trying to freshly install Windows but it's giving me the classic "windows could not update the computer's boot configuration" after installation. I'm installing with EFI, which I know is possible because I've done it before, and my disk is GPT with a protective MBR, which Windows should like. I've tried having manually setting up the EFI/System/Win partitions with Windows, with gparted, and by letting Windows set them itself, but it always gives the error.
Does anyone know what exactly Windows is wanting that I don't have? Also, what's not really an option is installing OSX and using bootcamp or disk utility. OSX tries to slap on a hybrid MBR which really gets mucky really fast when adding more partitions, and it doesn't play nice with anybody.
    Thanks

I really don't know the ICH5 well enough to determine if there is an optimal reason why you select the PATA only or the SATA only to match the primary boot device. In the boot sequence you can boot in whatever order you want, and with the F11 key you can boot off whatever device you want. Whatever works is usually OK, but when things don't work, try the right way at least once

  • Error 0x80300024 When Installing Windows 7 Using Bootcamp

Hi.  I'm trying to install windows on my mac mini.  I have a 2010 mini server with dual 500gb hard drives.  I want to have one disc for apple and the other disc for windows.  When I try the install I get the windows error 0x80300024.  After some research I found a straightforward, but not easy solution.  It seems windows freaks out when it sees more than one physical hard drive.  Therefore the solution is to disconnect the cables for the other hard drive, install windows on the target drive, then reconnect the cables to the other drive.  I rather not tear open the mini and do this as it looks a little painful.  Anyone have a suggestion on how to get around this?  And yes, I know it's a windows issue but i figured there must be some mini users who've experienced this issue.
    Thanks.
    Craig

    Hi Graig,
One possble solution here, with maybe alt key to boot your Windows installer instead of the c key...
    PrincessPeachJun 17, 2009, 06:48 PM
I just installed it today (twice actually, after changing my mind about something) so I can tell you how to do it. What I did was completely ignore Boot Camp and used Disk Utility to format the intended Windows drive as FAT32/Master Boot Record. Then I just rebooted with C held down and the Windows 7 CD took care of the rest.
I have a 2009 Mac Pro so all my drivers etc were on my OS disc. If you need to burn the drivers, by all means use Boot Camp just for that part
I got a warning in Windows 7 that Boot Camp had issues with the RC but it has been rock solid so far.

  • Error 0x80300024 when installing Windows 7

I have a problem with my MacBook Pro Mid 2012: I used Windows 7 on my HDD and a SSD via USB. Then I went to an Apple Authorised Service Provider and replaced the optical drive with the HDD and the SSD is now there, where the "normal" hard drives are.
No matter what I do, I get error 0x80300024 if I want to install Windows 7 on the HDD, which replaces the optical drive. It works on the SSD, however. I replaced the SSD with another HDD and it works too, so I think that Windows is only bootable on the primary SATA connector, but not on the secondary, where the optical drive was. I tried using the Master Boot Record as well as FAT or just made the hard drive empty. Still the same issue. Windows says that the controller is not activated in the BIOS, but there isn't any BIOS on the Mac, at least no BIOS settings.
Interestingly, it works if I unplug the SSD, so that just my HDD is connected. So I guess Windows has difficulties by recognising two SATA controllers. So I can install Windows 7, but the problem is that "no bootable drive" is found if I connect the SSD again. So Windows is not only uninstallable, it is not bootable too.
Now I would have to options: install Windows 7 on the 120GB SSD, which wouldn't be enough for OS X plus Windows or switch the HDD to the primary SATA connector and the SSD to the other one. This would cost 60 Euros again and I can't believe that there is no other solution.
Did anyone else experiences the same issue or has a solution for me? I just want to install Windows 7 on the HDD and it was working on my old 2009 MacBook Pro, but now it's not working and if I search on Google I just get solutions for the Mac Pro (there it was the RAID, which caused this issue). Others, like Mac mini users, who are using two hard drives, solved this by formatting (FAT32, Master Boot Record and/or just emptying everything and selecting "empty space"). This didn't work for me

For my MBP late 2011, I had a SSD in both the main and optibay spaces.
I installed windows on the optibay SSD drive and was able to boot via option key.  I had to first create a mbr partition on the optibay SSD.  I then had to open up the MBP and move the optibay SSD to the main slot and reinstall my DVD drive.  I then installed windows 7 via CD and eventually bootcamp drivers.  After install, I removed DVD drive and moved optibay SSD back to optibay and reinstalled main SSD drive with mac osX.
now I have a rMBP and bootcamp is an even different beast.  see macrumor post:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1414769
The rMBP needs a FAT partition to be able to install to a thunderbolt drive.  Now my prediction is that the 2012 MBP may have similar requirements in order to install and boot from optibay HDD.
You can try to test via my method.

Install error 1620  when attempting to install CS4 "This installation package could not be opened"  (for each component of the software package).   Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Intel i7 processor.   Unable to install any components of PrPro.  This is after a clean install of Vista Home Premium (part number x12-24171-01)with discs provided by microsoft.

I would never install a new OS over the top of what is there... wipe/format the hard drive and install fresh
Also, if you have a 64bit computer with more than 4Gig of ram, think about the 64bit version of Win7
CS4 can't use more than about 3Gig of ram, but if the OS can use more to run better... that is what I would do
Just be aware that you should still run CS4 in WinXP compatibility mode, as I posted before
Also read the article below... I have NOT done this, but it seems to be an easy process

  • Windows 7 64-bit instal error on new ST9750420AS Momentus HD in HP Envy 15

windows 7 64-bit installation error on brand new ST9750420AS Momentus 3Gb/s 750-GB Hard Drive in HP Envy 15
I installed a brand new ST9750420AS  Momentus 3Gb/s 750-GB Hard Drive in my HP Envy 15 laptop, and I was getting an error in the last installation step of Windows 7, 64-bit, ultimate, indicating that Windows could not support or be installed on the computer hardware.  It turns out that the drivers for the new internal hard drive, need to be installed/loaded during the initial windows install.
the drivers that ended up working are available from intel at:
    RST Driver Files v.10.1, 64-bit
the steps that are requires are:
    1) download the f6flpy-x64.zip file above, and unzip to a usb pen-drive
    2) when installing windows 7, in the configure option of the volumes, even if windows appears to recognize the drive, it is recommended to delete all existing volumes (Advanced options), and then LOAD DRIVER, and BROWSE to the usb pen-drive, while indicating to only list drivers that are compatible with the hardeware.  here is quick list of similar steps with diagrams.
    3) in this case the compatible driver name is "INTEL MOBILE EXPRESS CHIPSET SATA RAID CONTROLLER¨
    4) continue to configure volumes, and installing windows 7,
    5) everything should work fine.
