Windows 8.1 Disk Image

I am trying to use one of my Server drives to store Disk Images from Windows 8.1 computers. When I try to add another disk image from another computer to the same location a prompt warns that only one disk image can be saved to this location. My question
is can I copy more than one Image to the WindowsImageBackup folder since Windows creates a separate folder for each PC's image inside the WindowsImageBackup folder?
Tech Addiction

Multiple images are accommodated by renaming the next node (\computername\) to append the date and time pulled from the \Backup folder in the next node after that node.
see :
http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/202848-system-image-bat-script-allow-multiple-images-windowsimagebackup.html
Hence, the original Windows 8.1 folder naming convention such as: drive:\WindowsImageBackup\test_computer\Backup2013-10-15...
would become (propogating the date/time part to the prior directory node name): drive:\WindowsImageBackup\test_computer_2013-10-15_12\Backup2013-10-15...

  • Not opening window of mounted disk image

I have created disk images of my CDs with Disk Utility and have them mounted on startup by having them in my Login Items. But each .dmg after mounting opens the Finder window for that mounted disk. I do not want the window opened. Only the disk image mounted. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and paste in the following:
    tell application "Finder"
    delay 1--time in seconds
    close every window
    end tell
To close a specified number of windows:
    tell application "Finder"
    delay 1--time in seconds
    repeat 1
    close window 1
    end repeat
    end tell
In either case, save the script as an application and add it to the list of login items for your account. The delay in the second line of the script may need to be increased.

  • Burn disk image with a pc

Hi, I would like to know, if it is possible to burn a idvd disk image with a pc.
(I want to get a macbook, and since I already own a pc with a dvd-burner I think it would be best to save the 200 $ and just get the cheapest model. I still want to be able to burn a few iDVD Projekts so the question is, what kind of format iDvD saves the images in - iso or some fancy mac format?)

  • How do I create a disk image for windows 7, using a windows computer for USB bootcamp for mac?

Hi There, I have just bought a new 2013 iMac.
    Spec: 3.4 GHz intel core i5, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory , NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB Graphics with OS X 10.9.4.
How can I create a 'disk image' from a windows 7 professional 64bit installation DVD using a windows laptop with windows 7 Operating system on? I want to transfer this 'disk image' (ISO?) to a USB ready for installing windows onto my 2013 iMac using bootcamp?  I want to use bootcamp from a USB as I have no disk drive for the installation DVD on my iMac. I hope all this is clear.
    Thank you. Joe

Yes, that's correct, at least not directly. You can create a blank disk image, copy the file to the mounted disk image, then burn the image to a CD/DVD.
Open Disk Utility and select Blank Disk Image from the New menu. Provide a name, Save location, and select the image size from the drop down menu. Leave Encryptions at None and Format as read/write. Click on the Create button.
After the image file appears the "removable" disk should be automatically mounted. If not double-click on it to mount it. A "removable" disk icon will appear. Drag the file you want to place on the disk image to the "removable" disk icon. The eject the "removable" disk icon. Now select the disk image file in the DU left side list and click on the Burn icon in the DU toolbar. Be sure to have a blank disc ready.
The above is actually the "long" way to do this. A much easier way is to simply insert a blank CD or DVD into the optical drive. The Finder will pop up a dialog asking what to do. Select the option to mount on the Desktop. You will now see a disc icon on the Desktop. Drag the file you want to burn to the CD/DVD, right-click or CTRL-click on the disc icon and select Burn from the contextual menu.

  • How do you create a disk image of windows so u can increase partition size?

Ok, I have installed windows on my mac using bootcamp so i can play pc games and such. I mainly use the mac side of the computer but I have 30 GB devoted to windows. I ran out of space though and now want to uninstall windows so i can make the windows partition bigger. The problem is that I don't want to have to install ALL of my programs over again once i reinstall windows so I want to take a disk image of windows which i can revert to once it is reinstalled. I tried using the disk utility to do it but it keeps giving me error messages. Does anyone know how do create a disk image using windows??? or maybe I'm doing something wrong with the disk utility??? HELP!

The easiest way I have found to do this is to backup the windows partition with a program such as WinClone
    http://twocanoes.com/winclone/
Then use the bootcamp assistant to erase and recreate the partition, finally restoring the backup to the new partition. I have done this several times with my mac and it works great.

  • How can I use my Mac G3 (OS 9.2.2) to make Windows disk images and compress them into Windows stuffed archives?

I have a collection of old Windows diskettes, 800 K and 1.4 MB.  I want to make disk images (or whatever is the Windows equivalent) and compress them into Windows stuffed archives.  I want Windows users to be able to download them, expand the stuffed archives, extract the disk images, and use the softsare on old Windows computers.  I need to do the work on a Power Macintosh beige G3 Tower using OS 9.2.2.  What software can I get to do it?

    To Jan, Greetings
Thank you for your message and for your suggestions.
Is WinZip a Mac application that makes compressed files that can be opened on a Windows computer?  If so, then do you have any notion where I could find a version old enough to run on OS 9.2.2?
I noticed that DropStuff 6.0, which I use on my G3 Tower, has an option to make compressed files that are self-extracting on Windows.  Do you know if that works?  I suppose that I could make such a file and then find somebody with a Windows computer to test if for me.
Yes, I could (shudder) get an old Windows computer somewhere, learn to use it, and do the project that way.  Do you know if the old versions of Windows include disk image programs and file compression  programs?  Or, would I need to buy some old software?
Thank you for the information about the size of the diskettes.  As you've probably noticed, I don't know very much about Windows things.
    Sincerely,
    Frontiersman

  • Windows 7 Disk Image Burner went away

Somewhere I lost the built-in Disk Image Burner. It no longer appears in the context menu for an ISO file. It does not appear as a selection in Default Programs, nor in Assign File Types. Where can I find it and reinstall or reactivate it? In the context
menu for an ISO file, this appears"-exit -isowrite".
    Assistance please

    Hi,
Do you have any other CD\DVD burning software installed? If so, it could be that they've associated themselves with ISO files.
I would like to suggest you try to select the ISO file, then right clicking it, then selecting "Open With" and see if Windows Disc Image Burner is one
    of the selections.
I also would like to suggest you uninstall any other CD\DVD burning software you have installed and see if it restores the Windows Disc Image Burner
    option.

  • Opening disk image files in Windows?

Is there anything, free software or something like MacDrive (which I've never used) that will open disk image files, particularly encypted ones? I keep an encrypted disk image on my thumb drive with important information and I'd like to be able to open it in Windows. I recently came across the open-source TrueCrypt for Linux and Windows, but I would love some kind of software that would work on all three platforms, or at least OS X and Windows.
    Thanks,
    Alan

PGP works on the Mac. They currently do not have a working version for intel based Macs. Your profile indicates you have a PowerMac so you should be good to go. Download the free trial and check it out.

  • Installing Windows 7 from a disk image

In the Boot Camp instructions it states that Windows must be installed from a           full, single-disc version of Windows 7 and that it must be from a properly licensed installation disc. (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1461)
The IT department where I work are able to provide me with a disk image for Windows 7, that I can then copy to DVD, to use for the installation.
My question is, that given this isn't an official disk - will it work? Has anyone got any experience of installing Windows 7 on a Mac in this way? Any advice or tips appreciated!
I'm yet to buy the Mac - it would be my preferred machine to get, but the ability to run Windows on it is a deal-breaker. If I can't install Windows in this way then I will have to find an equivilantly spec'd Windows laptop instead.
    Cheers,
    Andy

That is one of the long-lasting mysteries with Macs and BootCamp and Windows .iso files.
Up to now no one has come up with an explanation for this but in the past the 2x burning has helped getting such a DVD to work where a DVD burned at higher or full speed failed.
Lots of thread in here to find with this behaviour and "solution".

  • Windows Disk-Image File:  What to Exclude from Time Machine?

I don't use Parallels very often, but when I do, the famous, predictable annoyance comes up:  The Windows disk-image file under MacOS gets tweaked, and then suddenly Time Machine has this mondo-huge 25GB file to backup.  That of course, clogs up my Time Machine backup drive.
A common solution appears to be to exclude that file from Time Machine, and then back it up by some other means.  OK, I'm cool with that, if only I knew what that file is called, and where I could find it, so that I can tell Time Machine to exclude it.
I'm guessing it's somewhere down in System or System Folder?

Ask on the Parallels forums, as its their software you have questions about

  • Does a disk image backup of MBP to a G5 include parallels Windows XP

My mbp display went out and I need to send in to get fixed. I booted the mbp in target disk mode and created a disk image of the mbp hard drive which has parallels/windows xp installed to an external drive using my G5 quad.
I want to know if that will have all the windows files as well.
    ---or---
if someone knows how I can access the windows files from my G5 somehow???
    thx!

It should have. Parallels normally stores a file in your Documents folder that holds the image of the PC .
So, as long as you chose at the very least to image your home folder and you did not have Parallels set to use a WinXP Boot Camp partition then you will have every thing that was in your home folder. If you did an image of the entire drive, well then, you have absolutely every thing except a Boot Camp (separate partition) setup.

  • Unable to create an encrypted disk image with Disk Utility

    Hi:
With our upgrade to Lion a few weeks ago, we're now unable to create an encrypted disk image of any type using Disk Utility any more. This problem occurs on 3 different machines, and is reproducible whether one is using an internal HD or an external FW HD. We can successfully create nonencrypted disk images.
This is a duplicate post with all the details here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18469359#18469359
We haven't had any luck with a solution trying various permissions fixes as helpfully suggested by other readers in response to the error message # (-60008 error), so I'm hoping that someone else has run across a solution from the encrypted disk image perspective and that this tag line will generate some help.
    Thank you!

  • Cannot delete disk image from timecapsule.

I have two disk image's on my time capsule and one is for a computer I no longer have.  Therefore I wanted to delete the time-machine disk image.  I recently upgraded to Yosemite.
In order to delete I have tried the following:
Mounting the time capsule and dragging to trash.  Get a progress bar that says "deleting one file".  It sits there over night and does not delete.
Going into Time Machine, navigating to the disk image file, right clicking, and selecting delete back-up.  Asks if I sure and then does nothing.
Repeating the above with time machine turned off.
Disk Utility does not see the mounted drive.
Get Info on the drive says that I have no permissions and they are custom.
Tried some CHMOD commands I found on the internet and i got a series of error messages about CHMOD not possible.
If I double-click the disk image, I get a file not mountable error.
Time machine still works to back-up my current drive.
    Any ideas????
    Thanks,
    Tony

Yosemite is problematic to say the least.
Delete backups was pretty much as you have done.. but Yosemite has the networking ability of tin cans and a broken string.
There are other ways around the issue..
How do I delete a time capsule Sparse Disk Image Bundle
There is a post at the bottom with a new method using a program I have not used but worked well.
I have a post there near the top with the standard methods.
I have good success btw with a windows computer on the network.. windows seems to treat permissions with contempt.

  • Running Win7 and ITunes 10.6 - loaded all my old CD's in one user acct. I want to share these with all other users on the machine without reloading the CD's and without having to make copies of their disk images, if possible. Also, want them on my WinXP

Running ITunes 10.6, on a Win7 Home Premium SP1. Just loaded about thirty of my favorite CD's on my user account.
I would like to be able to make all of them available to my other family members in their accounts on my machine, without needing to reload them all and without having to store their disk images multiple times. Can this be done, and if so, how?
And can I copy the contents of a folder across to my wife's WinXP SP3 machine, and have them made available to each of us in our login accts on that machine?
(There are three of us, plus an admin and a backup admin account, on each.)
I will be really grateful if someone can help me do this for my family members, as we have shared the music on these CD's over the years, and I would like to make them available on the desktop for each of us.
Also, I'd like to be able to load them, or a subset of them, to my wife and son's IPods. Any Tips, Traps or Tweaks for that process, as well?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Not sure about the OS level for the IPods. I am doing this for my wife and son, using an account here created for my son, which he shares with me for support purposes. But I do know they both have IPods, and our PC's and their OS's were described above.

You can move the iTunes folder to a separate drive on your pc an then configure each account to use this drive / folder as iTunes library ... The problem is, that iTunes by default stores everything in your personal music folder which is separate for each user account in windows (and by default is on "C" drive).
I create a separate partition on every pc/laptop (and map a drive name) where I store music, videos and other mass data. This will also keep the "C" drive small, which is backed up from time to time and so my backup is also small.

  • I run OSX10.6.8. Just dwnlded FF8.1 and everytime I go to open it I am asked about the disk image. But if I delete the dmg, the program won't run.

I just downloaded the 8.1 version. It was a 30+mb file. Previously I ran 4.0. So I drag the new Firefox icon into the Apps folder. It does its merge thing with the old version. Problem is when I click to open FF now, it always throws up this window asking me about the disk image of what I just downloaded. I even tried restarting the computer--but the same message pops up. I checked on your website and it says that I need to "eject" the disk image (i.e. I'm guessing that means the 30+ mb file I just down loaded), so since I don't have an eject option that I can find (except for external harddrives and cd/dvd), I just drug it into the trash. I go to empty the trash and I get a message that that dmg file is "in use" even though FF is completely shut down. So again I'm guessing that means that even though I already merged that dmg file with the old 4.0 version file, if I dump the update file it seems that it's going to mess up the actual revised program file still remaining. I just want to be able to click on the icon in my dock like I've always done and have FF open. I don't want to keep being asked about disk image stuff. Somehow this feels like an easy resolution, but I just can't seem to put my finger on how to resolve it. Thanks for you help.

Nope---didn't work. I've owned Macs for about 12 years so although I am brain dead on some things, I do have a working knowledge on most things. I only say that to say this--I did try holding down the mouse and choosing empty trash. It asks if I want to permanently delete what's in there. I say yes--and then I get the same identical message again-----'The operation can't be completed because the item "Firefox 8.0.1.dmg" is in use I can then click stop, or continue.' So apparently that complains the same way it does if I click it up on the menu :)))
As for item owned by---that's not an issue and isn't coming up. User is not a problem either as I am the only user on this system. There is only ONE file in my trash at the moment at that is this dmg file. Nothing Mac. Nothing owned by anyone other than Firefox. The problem seems to be that the dmg file and the original 4.0 FF file are working in tandem with each other--even though I have already drug the new 8.0 globe into the Apps folder and it updated the FF app with the new stuff. If I could force the dmg file to go away, I would do so, but at every turn the system is telling me it can't be done because it seems to think that dmg file is in use---even though everything is shut down and/or ejected. Hey--I'm getting ready to head out and won't be back till evening. I'll check back in this evening. Thank you again for your help.
