Windows 8.1 update with KB2919355 keeps failing

hi,
I'm trying to get my Windows 8.1 updated with KB 2919355 but it keeps failing with error code E0000100.
I've tried tried to resolve using the "clearcompressionflag" tool, but that had no effect. The update will install but after reboot of machine, the update fails.
I'm running 64 bit and the pc is upgraded from Win 7 then Win 8 and finallly Win 8.1.
Please help.
Thanks
Marc

WindowsUpdate.log is here:
Aha.  I think we are going to need a previous piece of the CBS.log.  This KB2919355 is so huge that it seems to have wrapped the one that you are showing us.  I.e. I suspect the most interesting piece of it will reflect what happened to produce
this event (or an earlier one of the same code 0xE0000100)

Unless that driver information is enough of a clue to help you devise a workaround?  What is that device?   You could use  WMIC (or Powershell)  to find out more.
E.g. try
wmic Path CIM_SystemDevice where (__RelPath like "%Ven_10%") get PartComponent
I'm sure we could find something more specific but that gives you an idea I hope.
You can do a Find in your WindowsUpdate.log  for  Installation Failure:  to see that there is a definite pattern to the failure reports:  4 install errors and 1 download failure then 1 install error and 1 download failure.
So I suspect that the last ones, for the download failure, or even the quick install error is not going to be as interesting as the first of a set of 4.  E.g. those later ones may just be the server throwing up its hands and saying: Go
away! (figuratively speaking, of course.)
Of course I may be completely off the mark here with such speculation, so you may prefer to leave it to Darrell to choose what he wants to look at.  Thanks for both diagnostics. I think they will help.

I have set up iTunes Match on only 3 devices (my Windows 7 desktop and 2 iPhones) and am now trying to authorise my new Windows 8 (Toshiba) laptop but I keep failing to authorise the laptop using my one-and-only Apple ID. Does anyone have advice to solve this problem?!

Hi all.  I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues.  Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem.  …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive.  Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab.  Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
    Open the Users folder.
    Open your user folder
    Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
    Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco.  The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”.  Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear.  Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
    Good luck…

  • HT201366 Security Update 2013-003 keeps failing to install - 'Unexpected Error occurred' - and now my MacBook Pro is running extremely slowly?

I have repeatedly tried to update the software 'Security Update 2013-003' on my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.7.5 but it keeps failing to install, stating that 'an Unexpected Error Occurred'.
Since the update failed the first time, my MacBook Pro has been running extremely slowly and failing to open basic apps like Mail and Safari at times.
All other updates have been successful apart from this one. I have made sure that my MacBook isn't full (emptied Trash etc) but it still runs really slowly at times so I think it's linked with the Security Update failure.
    Please help!
*I have tried installing the update from Support Downloads but it says there isn't space on Macintosh to install it. There is 190 GB of free space on that disk so I don't understand that at all.

  • Windows 8.1 Update (with WinPE 5.1) ADK + SCCM 2012 R2 and WinXP

    Hello,
I see new ADK version (8.1 Update) is released
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/confirmation.aspx?id=39982
It contains WinPE 5.1 and new USMT (which version?), does it support migration from WinXP to Win7?
    Previously I used USMT5 (instead of 6.3) and modified WinPE 5.0 with bootsect.exe from WinPE 4.0 (from ADK 8.0) on SCCM 2012 R2 CU3.
And can I use ADK 8.1 Update with SCCM 2012 R2?

He does answer your question about the USMT version.
The rest still applies in terms of XP support. See below.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2014/01/09/migrating-from-windows-xp-to-windows-8-1-using-mdt-2013.aspx
Yes, ConfigMgr 2012 R2 is supported.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2014/04/03/understanding-the-adk-for-windows-8-1-update-and-configmgr-osd.aspx
    Daniel Ratliff | http://www.PotentEngineer.com
    in the article I found:
Windows PE version 5.1 is not needed for Configuration Manager and can actually be problematic if you try to use it. Windows PE 5.0 can continue to be used to deploy Windows 8.1 Update. There is a documented process to upgrade Windows PE to version 5.1,
but this should be considered incompatible with Configuration Manager at this time.
So for a new installation of SCCM 2012 R2 I can install ADK 8.1 update because in contains WinPE 5.0 and option to update to 5.1. And unclear about XP, it seems XP is not supported again.
Also fourth release was in September 2014, but article was posted in April 2014.

  • Download window no longer updates with files I download. It still pops up. Does it get full?

Downloads windows stopped updating with files I download.
It still pops up. and the files do download.

Marcello, I am having the same problem.  When following the advice of many in the community to start iTunes in 32-bit mode, I get the following error after I have done so:
I am running 10.9.2 on a mac mini.
I am hoping this will be fixed or at least a solid answer could be given that iTunes will no longer support certain types of media going foward.

  • Deploying Windows 8.1 Update 1 - KB2919355

Hi, I know "Update 2" is available now (KB2975719), but I'm still testing it. But I want to push "Update 1" (KB2919355) to all my Windows 8.1 machines.
This wasn't a problem in the past, you just had to ensure the pre-req KB2919442 was installed, and that "Update 1" is given a sufficient "Maximum Run Time" (more than the default 10 mins).
Then another pre-req came along, KB2939057. But it was still offered to the machines, and installed fine.
Now I notice that Update 1 (KB2919355) is no longer being offered to most of my machines. Does anyone know why this is?
You can still download it manually and install it. Or you can run a Windows Update and install various "Critical Updates" for 8.1 (these updates are not visible in SCCM Software Updates), and that seems to make it available then.
Any ideas why most machines are not requesting Update 1, and can't get SCCM to push it to them?
    Thanks.

"To deploy 2919355 and 2919442, you'll need to download them separately and deploy them using a package (or application). This comes down to Microsoft making it very clear that systems without 8.1 Update were no longer supported and thus you've left
yourself in an unsupported configuration by not updating the systems earlier."
Frankly I find this statement offensive.  I just stood up a new SCCM server last month and began deploying fresh instances of Windows 8.1 RTM (what else can I deploy, there is no Windows 8.1 Update RTM).  The fact is that, today, there is no straightforward
way to apply Windows 8.1 Update to a Windows 8.1 RTM using Microsoft's flagship deployment tool.  This is clearly a bug and not a feature.  You seem to be implying that I've done something wrong by "leaving myself in an unsupported configuration
by not updating the systems earlier."  This is a fresh site and I never had that chance.  There is one reasonable solution to this: Microsoft should fix the Windows 8.1 RTM/Update 1 deadlock.

  • I tried to update to 3.6.14 but it was unable to install the update & tried a complete update with "patch apply failed" as a result. it is not listed in the 'unistall program" area of my Windows Vista. how do I uninstall and reinstall Firefox?

I have no other issues withmy computer as I have used PC's for years and am quite familar with their operation. teh questions pretty much says it. After attempting to updat firefox is totally unreliable shuttign down eityher after a few seconds or a few minutes never longer. I curently have version 3.6.13 and the update for 3.6.14 will not install due to a " patch apply failure" as mentioned. I have Windows vista currently and use firefox for the online assignments I do with school, least amount of compactablity issues.

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Windows 2008 server OS authenticated user keeps failing

I have a new server that has windows 2008 server installed, 64-bit. I've installed oracle 11gR2 64-bit and have created my database. Now I need to create two oracle accounts that are OS authenticated and I can't seem to get this right. I've set os_authent_prefix in my spfile and I've created the user (example) OS$<domain>\<username> in the database. In Windows, the account name equals <username> and that account belongs to Administrators and ora_dba groups. I've tried creating the oracle user with <domain> in caps and lowercase, but both fail. On the server, the domain is all lower case.
So in SQL> create user "OS$my.domain.mil\user1" identified externally; (user created)
    Grant connect to "OS$my.domain.mil\user1";
Log out of sqlplus, pull up command prompt in Windows 2008 server as 'user1' and type in "sqlplus /"
    Invalid username or password.
What am I missing here? Any help appreciated.
SA feedback: "Finally, Windows Server 2008 R2 Operating System has a tighter security scheme than that of previous Windows OS.
Also, it would be helpful if I remove the AD domain controller role from this server. This may require reinstallation of this server (worst case). Let me know when I can do this so you can proceed with your configuration."

    Hello Ricardo,
You may want to reference SAP Note 1054740 - SAP System Installation on Windows Server 2008
and ensure you are on SAP Netweaver 7.0 SR3 or above, and it will also tell you if the product you are installing is supported in Windows 2008 Server.
For database and SAP product combinations that are already
supported by SAP to run on Windows Server 2008, see the Product
    Availability Matrix at: http://service.sap.com/pam
Also check the following: in Regedit.
    SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\gpsvc
Right click on it and select "Permissions" in the context menu.
    Provide "Full Control" for sidadm
Does the installation user has full administrative rights and belongs
to the group of LocalAdministrators and to Global Administrators also
when you are doing a domain installation ?
Please ensure the user <sid>adm has the access rights
to change the file system permission.

  • Windows 8.1 update 1 tablets keep defaulting to desktop

Now I'll start by saying I just say Keith mention needing to copy the 6.2 unattend files to 6.3. Which I'll try doing, but won't have time until next week. Has anyone thus far imaged a tablet with 8.1u1 yet? I built all new images using the 8.1 ISO that
includes update 1. I have the latest ADK installed, but I'm guessing something in MDT isn't aware of what's changed.
As of right now, if I image a tablet it always goes back to the desktop when an app is closed even if it is not set to boot to desktop. Anyone else experience this? Next week I'll try building all new task sequences and reference images after copying all
the 6.2 unattend files to 6.3

No GPOs are applied and this is being imaged as a normal "workgroup" tablet. After looking over it, the unattend.xml file wouldn't have been an issue as the only changes needed were already in it. I did notice two things that could be contributing
factors. One I have HideShell=YES on my deployment share for creating reference images and two the reference image for tablet had the check box to boot to desktop. Although that still doesn't explain why after changing it to boot to start it still goes to
the desktop after an app is closed. Anyway I found some information saying that the deployment share should be updated and rebuild the boot images after installing the ADK update. I'm going to make these changes, build some new sequences and a new image and
    see what happens.
I think I may have found my answer (or rather cause):
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7af9dab9-b955-4179-b79a-ff73495d17ef/forum-faq-go-to-start-screendesktop-when-closing-windows-store-app?forum=w8itprogeneral
Actually, yup that's it. If the box is checked for "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar" it will go back to the desktop when you close a store app.
My Solution: Uncheck that box and then recapture the reference image. (I have a specialize image for tablets) and I'm using copy profile
Alt Solution: Either uncheck the box manually or script a registry change.
I tracked it down, change the 1 to a 0
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
    "StoreAppsOnTaskbar"=dword:00000001

  • So no Windows 10 Pro updating with WSUS??

That chart certainly makes it appear that it won't, but that really doesn't fit with what the video says.  Is the video newer than that chart?

Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding what I'm reading. So per
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/07/16/windows_10_will_update_whether_you_like_it_or_not_unless_you...Windows 10 Pro will be managed by Windows Update for Business. While I don't have an issue with using a new security tool (we're IT folks dangnabit), but you can't postpone an update indefinitely. I get that, but what I'm reading is that "In other words, if you bar feature updates, eventually you also bar security updates, putting PCs at higher risk of compromise." This is assuming you are not rolling with the Enterprise edition.I've done some Googling, but can't specifically see where it specifically says you can't manage Windows 10 Pro with WSUS. Anyone got a link or an opinion?

It gets to about 50-51% and then fails

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. You can of course always run the cleaner tool and start over, but without potentially resolving the underlying issue you may just end up repeating the same flawed process over and over again.
