Wireless router not detected

I recently purchased a WRT54G router and tried to connect through my DSL connection. An error message came up and stated that the router was not detected. Repeated tries gave the same results.
I know that the cables were connected correctly. Can someone suggest trouble shooting?Calls to Linksys support have been unsuccessful.

Try disabling all firewalls on the computer, windows and any other you might be using. Still no luck try doing manual setup, as follows:
Connect modem to internet port on router, and connect computer to port 1 on router
Login to routers setup, by typing http://192.168.1.1 in internet explorer's address bar, use admin as password there without any user name
Here goto mac address clone in blue bar at top
Enable service, click on clone my pc's mac button, and save the settings
After that turn off modem and router, turn on modem first.
Turn on router after some time
Check internet if works

  • WRT 110 - New Router not detected

I am having problems with the setup wizard.  Im getting "New router not detected".  It's all setup correctly.  I've reset modem, router and rebooted 100 times atleast.  I can get on the internet when the modem is conected through the router.  Also, I cant get to the 192.168.1.1 router setup.  I have set up other linksys routers without problems.  We are on Time Warner cable internet.  Please help before I smash this thing.

I have an older Linksys (twin antenas) product so bought this for my son in Ohio.  He tried to connect the router using his laptop and could not do it...after calling support (Punjab in India) they could not resolve the problem or begin to figure it out.  After watching a 6 year old on YouTube hook up a router, I figured it couldn't be that hard so I told him to send the WRT 110 to me along with his laptop.
After trying the install myself (using the supplied CD), I could not connect to the internet via the wired laptop-router-modem either.  So I figured the wireless device of the laptop may be interfering with the router.  So I went to Control Panel>>Network Connections>> and right clicked on "Wireless Connection" and clicked "DISABLE".  After that, the laptop DID connect to the internet via the ethernet cable.
When I tried to login to the new wireless network using another laptop, I could not connect after repeated attempts using the letter "O" and the number "0" of the WEP code generated by the CD install.  I finally COPIED and PASTED the WEP code to a Word document, saved to a stick, then transfered the doc to the wireless laptop.  After COPY and PASTE of the WEP code to the LOGIN >>>SUCCESS.
The wireless connection works fine two floors away from the router as does my old antenna router did, so the "range" problem reported by others is a mystery to me.  Don't know why the "support" couldn't have solved this problem....I'm not a real computer nerd, but can do "trial and error" fixes.
Bottom line: router works fine and is better looking than the "antenna" ones but who cares???  I go for the blinking lights anyway <g>

  • Router not detected

I need help.  The software doesn't detect the router.  I know I've followed all directions correctly; I've reset the router and my computer several times.  It always gets to 9% when it's detecting the router, then it says "router not detected.  Make sure all cables are plugged in correctly."  All my cables are plugged in correctly.  I am so frustrated.  My cable internet company is not helpful because the router is not their product.  I wonder is something is faulty with my router.

I have the same problem and have exhausted all strategies for successfully having the Linksys Easylink Advisor detect my brand new WRT300N wireless router.
I  have my A+, Network+ and MCSA certifications, so I don't think you are doing anything wrong, Kristen.
The Web interface works (http://192.168.1.1/) and the router is active and working.
Their little buggy app doesn't detect the router, period.  It did for a month or so and then stopped.  I have the latest firmware installed and the app phones home to update itself.  I do not know at what point it stopped working.  Sure is annoying and a waste of our time.

  • LELA "Router Not Detected"

I just purchased a Linksys WRT54G V8.2 router.  I just opened the box and have been attempting to get the wireless network setup.
I am currently posting as I am connected via eathernet cable though the WRT54G router
My problem is when I attempt to set this up using the LELA, I keep getting the "Router Not Detected" error.  Everything is plugged in, all lighs are on.  As I said, I am currently connected to the internet using this router, but with a wired ethernet cable, I cannot get the wireless setup.
LELA will not let me do anything until it can detect the router, can anyone help me figure out what is wrong here?
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same issue.
My router works fine and I can log into it from a web page but each time I try to install Lela, it will not detect the router (even though all of the required lights are on/blinking, etc).
I have uninstalled Lela, rebooted, and cleared out the Registry.
I have tried multiple router resets and have also updated the firmware.

  • Di-641+ Dlink wireless router not acquiring dhcp ips

I have this home user with a Di-641+ Dlink wireless router not acquiring dhcp ips. This is both with the Windows or Dell managing her wireless networks.  However, it works fine in our office connecting our Cisco AP541L access points.  Any ideas or suggestions other than physically looking at the device.

    Good afternoon,
As per your post, your home user is having issues with the D-Link product, not the Cisco products. This forum serves to provide technical and presales support for Cisco devices only.
I did take the time to locate the free support number for the D-Link products: 1-877-453-5465
In light of all of this, I am glad to hear your Cisco access points seem to be working well!
    Best of luck,

  • Router Not Detected (Desperate Help Needed)

This is the third Router I've bought and so far all three have given me problems. I have a WTGS54 v7 Router. On the day I bought it, I popped in the CD and immediately I had a problem. It said it couldn't detect my router and thus I couldn't go through with the full installation. Now everything is hooked up properly and I've checked about a billion times and even called customer support to make sure it was hooked up correctly. The CD installation won't go past the 'Configuring the router' stage. The strange thing is, the internet is working and my sister can access the internet via the router as well despite that it was never even completely installed. I figured since everything was working properly, I could just put the problem that it couldn't detect my Router behind me. However, at this point a few months later it's starting to give me issues. The connection is intermittent, lagy, and inconsistent. On Port 1 (My port), the led is flickering rapidly. On port 2(My sister's port), the led flickers although not merely as often as mine does. So that was basically and overview of the situation. My real question and problem that needs to be resolved is, why is my Router not detected during the CD installation yet my internet works (Although now lagging). What can I do to fix this? (BTW, I installed firmware but nothing happened.)

Due to some firewall issue or any other error ..... the CD does not work ...... if already one computer is working fine with router ..... no need to again rune the Disc of the router .....
Now if the router is not showing connection on any computer .....
Reset the router for 20-30 seconds ..... after reset reconfigure the router using CD of the router ..... if it still not works .... use another computer .....
Let me know if it works .....

  • Cannot see Mac Mini Server from Internet: DynDNS alias gets thru cable modem to wireless router, not to the Mac Mini. How to configure?

I want to make my Mac Mini Server (Lion) visible to the Internet from my home LAN. I have followed the Lion server install wizards and also set up a dynamic DNS at DynDNS.com.
When I enter the Internet address with the proper alias from a web browser, I get dumped into the admin screen of the Linksys wireless router WRT300N. Hint: the WRT300N provides DHCP for the LAN, not the cable modem providing DHCP. The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled. The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved.
Suggestions? I could use the Motorola Surfboard SB6121 to provide DHCP but have hesitations.
Point me to the right discussion/article and get me back on track, please.

This sounds like a simple port forwarding issue, but I don't understand your LAN setup.
The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled.
The chances are, you're running NAT somewhere in your network. If not the WRT then what? If it's your cable modem then you must have port forwarding configured on the cable modem, and that's where you need to focus - change the port forwarding to point to your Mac Mini's address rather than the WRT.
HOWEVER, it is far more common to have the wireless router perform NAT and DHCP, which is why I question your setup.
    Not directly related, but:
The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved
Nix this. Your server should be configured manually, with a static IP address, not DHCP, even with a reservation in the DHCP server. The only advantage of DHCP is for dynamic hosts (hence the 'D' in 'DHCP') or if you expect to change your entire local subnet on any kind of frequent basis. The reality is that you can't just change the IP address of Mac OS X Server like this - there are too many dependencies, so it's better to set it manually, knowing that there's a cost (and pain) to change the server's address.

  • Wireless router not working after Windows update

I have a WRT54G V.5 wireless router. Windows Vista Home Premium did an auto update. Now wired connection works, wireless does not. Asks for key, but when entered nothing happens. Diagnosis states action was canceled. I have disabled and enabled, does not fix. Any help will be appreciated!

  • Wireless router not allowing full handshake in router mode

    This is a follow-up of a question I asked here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12180986/rv220w-only-routing-icmp-traffic
I have a recently-purchased rv220w wireless router.  My setup is as follows:  Internet -> asa 5505 -> 10.0.1.0 subnet -> wireless router (subnet 10.0.3.0, public facing ip is 10.0.1.140).
I can ping between the two subnets fine, but not much else.  I did a packet capture with wireshark and noticed something really interesting.  If I try to connect from a machine from the 10.0.1.0 subnet to the 10.0.3.0 subnet, say remote desktop for this example, I get a SYN, then a SYN_ACK, and then not ACK back.  Only a reset (RST) is getting sent from the machine initiating the connection.
This is super weird.  ANy help would please be appreciated.  I have the detailed captures if necessary.
UPDATE:  I have uploaded the wireshark capture.

For those interested, I have solved this problem, see http://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/23qsyn/cisco_wireless_router_not_allowing_full_tcp/

  • Officejet 6500 and wireless router not connecting

I just purchased an Officejet 6500 and trouble trying to connect it to my wireless router.  Each time I try to connect the printer by wireless it locks up.  The power button is not lit, but the screen is lit with no text.  At this stage I cannot shut it down or get it operating again.  I'm running Vista Business 64-bit and the router is a 2wire 1800HG through AT&T.  It runs fine with a usb connection.
    Thanks in advance.  John

I think you've just run into a known problem with some HP network printers with 2WIRE AT&T DSL routers.
We've identified the problem and will deploy an update sometime in the future.  Until then, the work around is to assign a static IP address to the printer. Here's one way to do this:
Unplug he telephone line from the 2WIRE router
Turn the power off on the 2WIRE router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the 2WIRE device (Ethernet or Wi-Fi). The printer will not crash as long as the telephone line is disconnected from the 2WIRE device.
From the Officejet's front panel, access the "Advanced Setup" menu under "Network"
Select "IP Settings", acknowledge the warning and select "Manual IP Address"
Select "IP Address" and change the last IP address group (octet) to something higher or lower. Specifically for your 2WIRE router, select 192.168.0.60.
Press Ok and plug in the telephone line into the 2WIRE router.
Steps 4, 5 and 6 can be done from the printer's internal web page (under the Network tab) and it might be easier than the front panel on the 6500.  To get to the internal web page, you browse to the printer's IP address which you can find by printing the Network Configuration.

  • Server Timed Out, Router not detected

Ever since a heavy thunderstorm I have been unable to pick up wireless Internet on any of my wi-fi devices. I'm no longer able to access 192.168.1.1 through my Internet browser, when I tried to ping 192.168.1.1 it says Server Timed Out, and the LinkSys EasyLink Advisor program said my computer was unable to detect my router. Help?

    Marcar,
its much easier for us to help if you give us a little detail. like the model & version of your device.
anyway, a thunderstorm aye?? ake sure that the router's power light is not blinking, if it is reset the router.
    HOW TO RESET A ROUTER:
with router turned on, push on the little reset button on the back of the router (beside the wan/internet port). hold that button for about 30 seconds and then release and then turn the router off. leave it of for 20 seconds.
by then you can access the default IP of the router which is 192.168.1.1 (password: "admin").
BTW: before you reset the router make sure you know how to reconfigure it back again to work with the modem for your internet connection.

  • HPE-475a wireless card not detecting networks

For the last few months, every now and again, my computer would start up but be unable to detect any wireless networks. It seemed that simply shutting it back down for an hour or so would magically resolve it. Some research at the time suggested that it was unable to detect a driver for some reason.
However, today, several hours of the computer being off has not resolved the issue, and the device manager suggests that the card is working fine, without any driver troubles. Perhaps I am looking at the wrong thing.
I have been able to connect using an old wireless dongle, but I don't want that to be the permanent solution.
What can I do to better diagnose and resolve the issue? I've searched a bit but couldn't find anything which seemed specific to this situation.
    Product name: HPE-475a
    Product number: BU082AA#ABG
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
    Error messages: None.
    Recent changes: None.
Troubleshooting performed: Attempted to "Diagnose" through Network Connections. It suggested to check the router. The router is fine, multiple other devices are able to connect. Diagnostics then says it cannot resolve the connectivity issue.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
If WIFI was working fine using the current router then the mixed mode setting is not the problem.
If Device Manager shows no errors and you cannot connect using wireless then the WIFI adapter card is, most likely, the problem.
Good to hear you have an extended warranty.

  • Wireless Desktop not detecting E2000

I recently upgraded from an old WRT54G2 router to a E2000, and while it's solved a few problems, it's also caused a few. My wireless desktop will not pick up the E2000. It picks up signals around it so I know the wireless card is working, and our new laptop also picks up the network without a problem. When I try to connect to a network, our SSID just will not show up on the desktop as it does on the laptop. Does anyone know why? It worked amazingly until I upgraded the router.

Try changing the SSID on your E2000 router, dont use the default. Also try using different channels on your router and see which channel suits your network environment - a chnnel that your desktop detects. how far is this computer from the router, btw?

  • X201 Wireless Card not detectable (Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN) (Windows 7 64 bit)

    Hey!
I have a slight problem here.
We have 5 machines that got shipped with Windows 7 32 bit versions for two weeks ago, I tested all of them to make sure nothing was defect or such things but everything was fine (The wireless network card was clearly visible in device manager).
For two days ago, we recived recovery discs to upgrade these machines to 64 bit versions.
After installing it on 2 computers that was previously 32 bit versions, I am not able to detect the wireless network card anymore.
I have used System Update to try and find it but to no avail.
The card itself is not even detected by Device Manager (No unkown device or anything either, it have simply dissapeared).
I do know the card is present there so I downloaded two different drivers (1 from Lenovo homepage and another one from a driver update tool) (13.1.1.1 and 13.2.0.30).
I made a manual search and installed the drivers and the card itself by using "Add Legacy hardware" in device manager and picked the card.
It is now detectable in Device Manager but with following error code:
"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).
I have tested both versions but same error code persists, System Update won't help either since it says that there are no new updates for this machine (same thing with Windows Update).
The card was functioning properly in 32 bit version but decided to crap out when upgrading to 64 bit, have there been frequent problems regarding wireless networking with 64 bit?

We have the same problem with 6 new X201 machines preloaded with Win 7 32bit
After reloading the X201 with the Win 7 64bit recovery media the wireless network card disappears.
You learn to disassemble the laptop quickly to get to the CMOS battery because thats the olution I found
Disconnect the CMOS battery to reset BIOS settings completely and the network card appears in windows again.
Even when we tried the same recovery media on a T500 to test it, the same happened. The CMOS battery solution got the WLAN card working again.
I have reported this to Lenovo but havent heard from them yet.
