Wireless with Canon MP990 won't hold connection

latest drivers etc...
Was working perfectly. Now, I have shut down printer and restart, get back on network to get a new printer spool to work.
Then, after any job, the printer refuses to work if you start another job! Reports a generic "communications error". But it's still connected to the wifi but it just won't print.
Have restart printer AGAIN. Will work sometimes, not others. Unreliable at best. Really *****.
Any ideas?

If you connect to the internal web page of the MP990, the home page shows the signal strength and quality. If either of these are below 50% then you may want to look at changing the wireless channel you router is using.
To open the MP990 web page you can type the IP address of the device into a web browser. Or the easiest way is to use Bonjour via Safari. Select the Bookmarks icon and then select Bonjour. The MP990 should be shown, providing it is still connected to your network.
With regards to the wireless channel most will default to 6, so if you have close neighbors also using the same channel, or other wireless devices such as cordless phones, then this could be causing a problem with the MP990 so it could benefit from changing the wireless channel. Depending on what wireless router you have you could either simply restart the router - as some will check what channel is best for your location, or you can change the channel via its own web page. Once the channel is changed you can then restart your wireless devices to reconnect to this new channel (assuming it changes).
If the signal strength and quality of the MP990 is better than 50% when you check then use it until you notice the comms error when you print. Then open the MP990 web page at this stage to see what the wireless link levels are showing.

  • Wifi won't hold connectivity

I'm reading over other comments but haven't found a solution yet. Our MacAir won't hold the connectivity or automatically find the wireless network. Once we click wireless at the top of the screen and it turns on, we can count to 10 and it will jump off again. Causing lots of frustration. The router seems fine as I'm not having any trouble with my Kindles, nor the other 20 iPads in the cart under the MacAir. We are currently running OS X 10.8.5.  One forum suggested deleting some files in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration (specifically:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist)
Then reboot. Didn't work. Before I go too much further and really cause issues, please advise.

We reset the MTU to 1454. So far, so good.

  • Problems printing wirelessly with Canon PIXMA iP4500

I have a MacBook Pro 15 in 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb RAM and I’m running Mac OSX 10.5.7.
    1. My Canon PIXMA iP4500 inkjet printer used to work perfectly as a printer attached to the USB port of my Airport Extreme Model A1034 modem, when my computer communicates with the modem either wirelessly or via an ethernet connection between the computer and Airport, but lately it isn’t working.
    2. When I try to print the printer icon shows up in the dock and when I click on it a Canon iP4500 series printer dialog box pops up and says the Printer is Ready but the status of the document is “Stopped”.
    3. If I click on “Resume” and error message appears: “Operation could not be completed. client-error-not-possible”. This happen repeatedly.
    4. I recycled the modem, turned the printer off and on (and did those things in reverse) and ran Airport Utility, all to no avail. I also deleted the printers in my Print & Fax System Preferences dialog box, downloaded the latest CUPS driver from Canon (ver 10.1.0.0), and recreated the printer (called Canon iP4500 Series).
    5. Network diagnostics says it can connect to the internet over either my airport or Ethernet connection but it cannot connect to the Canon iP4500 series.riousbprint.tcp.local.
    6. Also when I run the Canon IJ Printer Utility from the Canon iP4500 series printer dialog box a Printer List dialog box shows up with no USB-attached printers listed
    7. I can print if I connect the printer directly to my MacBook Pro, so I don’t think it’s a driver or USB cable problem. Curiously, when I connect the printer directly to the computer the Print & Fax dialog box automatically creates a second printer called Canon iP4500 series-1. If I use the original Canon iP4500 Series printer in this setup it says “No pages found”.
Basically I’m stumped at this point and would appreciate some help. Unfortunately, I’m on a 3-mo sabbatical and do not have my original Canon printer software with me so I cannot reinstall the printer app unless someone knows how I can obtain it. Similarly I cannot reinstall Leopard either, though it doesn’t seem likely I should need to. Happy to try anything else though.

Hello Basil and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Reading your post, it would suggest there is a problem with the USB of the Airport Extreme, but I don't believe this to be case as there is not much that could go wrong with them. Instead I think there is something not right with the transport (TCP) protocols that get the data from your Mac to the Airport USB.
At this stage, I suggest you look at installing version 5.23 of the Gutenprint driver. This version supports your iP4500 and will help to narrow the cause of the current symptom.
Before installing the Gutenprint driver, I suggest we trash all the current Canon drivers you have installed - we can add them again later if need be.
Open Finder and navigate to Mac HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter. Trash all the contents of this folder and empty the trash.
Next, navigate to the Mac HD/Library/Receipts folder. You will see the Canon iP4500 xxx.pkg and another one for the CUPS driver you installed. Trash both of these and empty also.
Now open System Preferences > Print & Fax and delete all the Canon printers in the list (highlight and hit ' - '). It would also be handy to reset the printing system, so while in Print & Fax, move your mouse over the now empty printers list, hold down your Control key and click (or right-click if you can). Click on Reset printing system when it appears.
Now install the Gutenprint drivers. When this is done, restart your Mac and try adding the iP4500 again. This time, after you select the Airport shared printer, you will have to open Print Using and search for the 'Canon iP4500 - Gutenprint v5.2.3'. Select this and now try printing. Let me now the result.

  • Ipod Touch G1 won't hold connection to AirPort

Can anyone give me any help in connecting my Touch (update 2.2)to my home network. I have an iMac CoreDuo wit built in Airport networking. Windoze laptops are able to connect to this network just fine from all corners of the house. My touch can't keep the connection when it is connected to the Mac and charging. My internet is a dfs connection.
The touch works fine with other wireless networks..in restaurants and in the public library. Why won't it work with my Mac? Can anyone explain how to set this up? I get full bars in the signal strength but safari cannot open page beause the server stopped responding. I have only once been able to get it to respond, but that was only enough to load the google home page. It never did an actual search...None of the other apps (like weather) that use the internet work either with Airport.

  • Setting up wireless with Canon M980

Please help! The printer works on USB, but not wireless. I'm using a 'Be box' router and the computer confirms that a LAN network is established. I've pinged with 100% and I've reset the printing system on the mac. The problem is that the print/fax system preference doesn't show M980 wireless (only USB). Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
From reading your post it sounds like you have the Ethernet configured but not the wireless. Unless you meant that you were able to ping the wireless IP address and get 100% returned, in which case you can skip section.
But in case it was the Ethernet address that you were pinging successfully, then read on.
The MP980 cannot have both Ethernet and wireless enabled at the same time. Via the machines Settings view (the pliers and screwdriver icon), scroll to Device Settings and press OK. Then scroll down to LAN settings and press OK. The first menu is Change wireless/wired, press OK to enter and have a look at the which setting is highlighted. You want to ensure that Wireless LAN active is highlighted. Scroll to change this if necessary and then press OK to activate.
Now, while you are still in Device Settings, scroll down to Wireless LAN setting list and press OK. This will show you if the connection is Active and what IP address is currently set in the 980. If the correct IP address is set, then we can add the printer queue. If the IP address is not set, then you need to connect to the printer via USB and open the Canon IJ Utility to configure the network settings.
With the wireless network settings correctly set in the machine, turn off the power to the machine and disconnect the USB printer cable if connected. With the power back on to the MP980, you can select to add the printer queue but you have to select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. This should display the wireless MP980 with its MAC address enclosed with brackets, such as (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx). Select this and click Add. This will complete the wireless printer queue creation.
Hope this helps you. Please reply if it doesn't.

  • Wireless with WPA Encrytion doesn't fully connect

Hi, I have a D-Link(DI-624) router with 2 Windows XP machines and one Powerbook connected. The Powerbook and one XP Desktop are connected wirelessly using WEP 128bit encryption. Everything works fine. I discovered that WEP is not the best and want to switch to WPA encryption. Problem is when I switch to WPA I cannot get the Powerbook to connect properly.
I get a message that it is connected but not interent and no filesharing. It seems that the DHCP server is not giving the Powerbook a proper IP address. It is not an IP address that the D-Link supplies.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Robert,
    Welcome to the Apple forums.
You're correct that WEP is not as secure as WPA (WEP can be cracked in 15 minutes). Excluding WPA for the business enterprise, there are two that we're interested in, WPA Personal and WPA2 Personal. In my network, which has mixed Windows XP and mac systems, my PB has used WPA Personal, and on the router I used WPA with TKIP (AES, instead of TKIP, didn't work for me). This works fine.
Using WPA2 Personal, which is more secure than WPA personal, on the PB, requires changing the PB to WP2 Personal, as well as the router to WPA2 Personal and "TKIP or AES" (that's not a choice, it's one entry on my router). Again, this works fine.
Is your router using the most current firmware?
If you're set up similar to the above, and changed nothing else, you should be getting a proper IP address from your server, as you were before under WEP. I'd recommend you try this: With your various security settings in place, turn off your router, your PB, and your Cable/ADSL modem. Wait 4-5 minutes. Then turn on the cable/ADSL modem and let it complete it's startup, then turn on your router and let it complete it's startup, and then your PB.

My G4 connected internet wirelessly with OSX 10.3.9. After I loaded OSX 10.5.6 my computer does not recognize nor connect wirelessly with my home network. It connects fine with ethernet. Please help.

I found the trouble was my base modem. My DSL carrier had to upgrade the software on the modem. This solved the problem.

  • Problem setting up Wireless with WAP54G

I am having trouble setting up my wireless network with my WAP54G access point. I have used this same router successfully before but now on my new network it gives me trouble.
I did a reset on my Access Point, Then the default setting is with a static IP address. I can just connect with the access point (wireless) with no problem. But when connected to the modem it doesn't give me internet...
Reading the manual of the modem it tells me that any router connected to the modem should be set to DHCP. So when I put the settings on my access point to DHCP (and change them on the network settings of my laptop) I cannot connect with the Accesspoint anymore..
Can anyone help me? am I just doing something stupid here?

Hi sdedmer. What is the make and model of your modem? Is it a modem-router-in-one or a gateway? If so, you may need to enable the DHCP of the device so it can provide IP addresses for multiple devices to connect wirelessly. The WAG54G is an access point. It can only provide wireless and Internet access to one device at a time. For this, you may need to purchase a wireless router if you want to connect multiple devices (wired or wireless) and extend the wireless range using the WAG54G.

  • Hp laserjet Pro 200 M276nw won't consistently connect wirelessly with iMac

I'm on my second brand new hp laserjet Pro 200 M276nw in 3 days, it will not consistently connect wirelessly with my newly purchased (8days old) Apple refurbished 27" iMac on OSX 10.9, i7 chip & Fusion Drive.  The hp laserjet will sometimes connect wirelessly immediately after clicking "print" on the iMac, but about half the time it says "printer not connected" & takes 2-4 minutes (or longer) before the devices do connect. I've called hp support many times, they're reset various things via remote takeover of my iMac, the printer will work for a few of minutes but then the same problem returns. AppleCare made sure I have the
correct Airprint driver installed & also checked my settings, but says they don't know why this is occurring. I've also verified that our newer (6 months old) AT&T router is functioning correctly.
My older hp laserjet (CM1312nfi MFP) has worked flawlessly since 2009 via USB connection with my old iMac (still on Snow Leopard), I assumed it would continue with the new one, but there is no software update for Mavericks & the scanning feature won't operate on the new iMac. Hp says it is a discontinued model. The new hp laserjet is a successor model to the older one, they are both very similar except for the new wireless feature.
I can print fast & wirelessly from the new iMac via a different new hp inkjet printer (8600 series) here in the house. This inkjet printer is less than a month old, I installed it myself for a Windows laptop here, it has never malfunctioned.  Unfortunately it's upstairs & I do not like inkjet print quality, I need a good laserjet here in my office downstairs next to my iMac.

    HI there
Did you manage to sort this issue out - as I have exactly the same problem.
Lots of similarities as I also have an inkjet 8600 which works via USB and wirelessly no problems at all!
I always  buy HP printers as they are usually easy to set up - but this one is making me tear my hair out!
I've even upgraded to Yosemite and downloaded the new drivers from HP - no success.  The printer will print one page and then become unavailable.
I can print via USB or wireless direct - but not just via my wireless network which is what I want to do!
No responses posted - so assume no one has a fix.
    aaaargh!!!

  • Officejet Pro 8600 won't connect to wireless with Wireless extender connected

I am trying to get an Officejet Pro 8600 to connect to a wireless network, but it will not connect when my wireless network extender is connected. Once I disconnect the extender, it connects fine. Here is the setup. I have a Netgear wireless cable gateway CG3000D with a Amped Wireless Dual Band Router (R20000G) connected to the Netgear via ethernet cable. The Amped router is setup as a wireless extender, the Netgear and Amped share the same SSID. All my other devices work just fine connecting, laptops, cell phones, and IPads. When the Officejet 8600 tries to connect with the Amped connected, it tells me invalid password. Once I disconnect the Amped, the Officejet connects just fine. Any ideas how to get the Officejet to connect to the wireless with the Amped extender connected? Thanks

Are you using the same passkey on the extended network? (It is best to)
If so I would try using different SSIDs.  The printer will try to connect to the network with the better signal which might change depending on wireless interference.  There is no way to force the printer to connect to one network over another if the SSIDs are the same.
One other possibility.  Is the passkey the same for both 2.4 and 5ghz on the Amped Dual Band router?  Most routers can be set up to have different passkeys for each band.  The printer is a 2.5ghz device and will need that password the same on both the Amped and Netgear routers.
Please let me know your results.  Extending networks is becomming more common.  Understanding how to work with them will help everyone.

  • Lan problems with canon Pixma mp990

I've just got a Canon Pixma mp990 printer - mainly because og the wireless connection. The installation worked fine on my girlfrinds Macbook with Leopard. But on my own Macbook Pro with snowleopard, i can't make it work.
I can detect the scanner - but not the printer. I've downloaded the newest drivers on canons website. Iv'e tried canons support - but the gave up. Told me it had something to do with my Snowleopard installation (apperently there was a 'other printer' button missing in the 'add printer' window. And therefor they couldnt help me!)
I've also tried installing the drivers on a new user-account on the mac - agian with no luck.
    Hope someone can help me...

With the correct Canon drivers installed, either via the Canon web site or via the Apple download, you should be able to get the MP990 working. I have the MP980 and have been printing via wireless for a couple of months now with Snow Leopard.
To add the MP990 as a network printer you need to be patient. The scanner portion of the machine appears very quickly but the printer portion, which uses the canonijnetwork protocol to publish the printer on the network, takes some time to appear (usually no longer than 10 seconds). So, when you click to Add the printer and select the Default browser view (the More Printers menu mentioned to the OP by his Canon support is used for 10.5, not 10.6) you will see the MP990 as a Bonjour Scanner very quickly. If you don't see the scanner, then something is wrong with your MP990 wireless setup. After you see the scanner just wait with the Default window open. The printer should appear after a short while. When it does, select it - the Print Using menu will automatically change to Canon MP990 series.
If the MP990 as a printer does not appear, then do you have Parallels 4 or earlier installed? This is known to stop the networked Canon printer from appearing in the Default browser view. This issue is resolved with Parallels 5, but there is an upgrade cost involved. If you don't want to part with your money, then check this forum by searching Parallels. There is information about how you can stop the Parallels virtual network ports via Terminal so that you can see the networked printer.

  • Infinity won't work wirelessly with Ubuntu OS

I'm running Ubuntu Netbook Edition and upgraded my BT broadband to Infinity on 28.12.11, using the same HomeHub3 that worked perfectly well with the old Total service.
It doesn't work, wirelessly. I can get an apparently strong connection, but its agonisingly slow. At the same time, an ethernet connection works well, When I switch from one to the other and test the speed, I can watch the bandwidth fall away (i.e.: it isn't immediately disconnected.)
Nobody at BT can or will help, telling me that Ubuntu is 'unsupported' (i.e.: it's my problem). I reported this problem to BT - ref: xxxxxx-xxxxxx - via its complaints form on 28.12.11, but have had no response.
I've spent much time this past week on internet help forums. It transpies that BT has known about this issue with Ununtu for six months, but has apparently done nothing about it and cannot suggest a solution.
Suggested workarounds from other Ubuntu users involve manually reconfiguring one's connection, but my netbook won't allow me to apply the changed settings, or to change the router settings from N to G tech., but that only worked temporarily for me and, besides, my netbook is only a couple of year old.
When I was sold Infinity, nobody mentioned that it doesn't work with Ubuntu. Frankly, I feel it was mis-sold as I intended to increase the bandwidth of my Total account and was persuaded to take Infinity on the grounds that it's a superior service for the same price. Not from where I sit, it isn't.
The only solution I can see is to get BT to switch me back to their Total service, which suited me fine. I'm going to get their engineer to come back and uninstall Infinity. I will also complain to Offcom, as this situation could easily have been avoided had the BT sales person told me that Infinity won't work wirelessly with Ubuntu.

Firstly your negotiating skills with BT are far better than mine....
"....Total account and was persuaded to take Infinity on the grounds that it's a superior service for the same price"
I was on BT Total BB and had to pay an extra £2 pm for Infinity and then an extra £4.75pm uplift of the calls package to give me the same anytime calls I had previously.... And had to re-start another 18month contract!!! Ohhh well.
Right onto the problem... Webby's suggestion of making sure your on a clear or least used wireless channel is good advice.
Here is the link to the free software http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
    Have a look at a demo,- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2kZCfYTxI
To be honest I would move your HH3 from the Automatic setting to a fixed wireless channel as they seem to work better like that.
If your Operating System won't work with Inssider I would then just try a different channel starting at 1 and work up... seeing how things go.
Regarding setting your HH3 to wireless g, that is a very backward step as the most you'll get over that would be around 20Mbps depending on your distance from hub etc.
Couple of pics comparing my speed test over wireless g and n in THIS POST.
Another thing I would try is a wireless n USB adapter... just in case your m/c is only g
Links of how to identify what yours is and pictures of the difference in the "Network Sharing Centre".. 54Mbps being g and anything above is wireless n....
Wireless n gives the best speed assuming your Infinity download IP is more than 20Mbps. Also wireless n signal is more robust penetrating walls etc.
There are links to the type of wireless n adapters I use... Picture of one HERE, (Don't need the extender cable shown in that picture).
    wwwebber's post was very useful.-
"I use Ubuntu on my laptop with BT Infinity & HH3 with no problems at all. BT is not at fault here - they do not support Ubuntu."
Confirming Infinity and Unbunto do work...
You say ".....but my netbook won't allow me to apply the changed settings, or to change the router settings .... but that only worked temporarily for me......"
As changing settings worked temporarily you must have been able to log into your HH3.
If you really can't log in can you borrow a friends netbook running windows to get logged in perhaps?
Log in,- http://bthomehub.home/html/home/home.html go to Advanced settings, wireless. and change Channel settings from Automatic to a channel number then click on Apply.
I would place your laptop near to the HH3 and move the HH3 wireless channel to a clear channel or start at channel 1.
Try to get a good wireless n speed..... example of mine 37Mbps  over http://www.speedtest.net/
Then when you have a reasonable speed move your laptop away... you will notice a drop over distance that's normal.
I am 20' away from my HH3 and get 37Mbps through a plasterboard wall.
Regarding other routers people have used http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/List-of-Routers-to-replace-Home-Hub-3/td-p/298203
And see Ady's msg #21 and #25 in THIS THREAD.
