Wondering if I screwed up...

I just sold my IP4 S and plan to buy the next IP whenever it comes out. I did backup my IP4 S just before I sold it, but I don't remember the "handle" that I was using with it when connected to iTunes.
I do have an old 3G that I'm using in the meantime. When I sync that phone in iTunes, I see the handle associated with it. However when I select "restore" I don't "see" the IP4 S handle. Without it, when I get my new phone and attempt to restore the setting I used with my IP4 S, I would think I would lose all data associated with the IP 4 S.
Not the end of the world, but I wiill be torqued.

I understand this. I want restore my 4S backup to my new IP when they come out (September?). MAYBE iTunes is smart enough to not display my 4S backup when a 3G is plugged into iTunes (hopefully). I know in the past when I bought the IP4 and also the IP4 S, I simply plugged into iTunes, opened Restore and updated the new phones.
As you know, IP are given a NAME and this is the link to select a backup file. In my haste to sell my IP4 S, I didn't write down my phone's "name".

The Uk store was for a sim free iphone or pre pay. The US store price was a 3 year contract price. So us UK people don't get screwed really. I moved to Canada now and you think the Uk is expensive? LMAO you should come here.

Best Buy and Sprint have no sense of morals- I do not recommend either

I would just like to take the time to post about how Sprint and Best Buy have done a really wonderful job of screwing my monthly budget and account. My ex and I still share the same phone plan and he needed to upgrade his phone. He went into a Best Buy Mobile store to complete this upgrade and the sales associate at Best Buy needed me to provide my "Security Code" to open the account and complete the transaction. Well while the associate had my account opened they allowed my ex to open NEW SERVICES ON MY ACCOUNT. When I found out the new services had been open the 14 day return window had passed AND not to mention that the only way I was made aware of such services was by receiving my bill AFTER THE 14 DAY RETURN WINDOW. Completely absurd and a violation in contractual law. I contacted Sprint on several occasions- was left on hold for 45 minutes, hung up on, transferred from one dept to the next, promised return calls- you name the worst customer experience and Sprint has matched it. Apparently Sprint's take on the whole incident was that once you provide your "Security Code" to the representative you are giving access to do anything and everything on your account- it baffles me bc that is almost saying if someone walks into a bank and has my social security number that they should be able to borrow money in my name. I would not recommend Sprint services to anyone. After speaking on the phone with the Asst. Manager of the Best Buy location that allowed such NEW services to be opened under my account they were unwilling to assist me in rectifying this problem. I was told that I could sit on the phone with Sprint while the associate ate his dinner in the back. I sat there for 45 minutes and they were unable to offer me any resolution for their error. I have purchased thousands of dollars in goods at Best Buy but at the end of the day I will NOT be returning to the store with my business. I will be placing a complaint with the NY Attorney General's office against both Sprint and Best Buy for their lack of care when handling accounts on behalf of customers.

Regrettably, by providing that security code to our sales associate and allowing your ex-boyfriend to be on the account, we cannot be responsible for any extra services that he started. While it is painful to hear, this sounds like something that you need to discuss with him, especially if it’s financially impacting you. I can also only recommend working with Sprint to see what assistance they can provide to either cancel or refund those services.
I absolutely apologize that you were treated this way by the store. It’s one thing to advise a customer that the manager is currently unavailable and another to phrase it the way the store did. I will be documenting this for the store as it sounds like the associate your spoke with could use some additional training on how to handle these situations.

24F capture problem with CS5

I own a Canon HDV40 camera and I recorded video set at 24F. I chose the 1080/24p preset for my sequence. I now have several .mpeg clips. Each clip is a 60 minute tape.
When I try to move the clips to the timeline CS5 stops responding. Is there an issue with the 24F format and CS5? I do not see a preset specifically for 24F. I also do see any other discussions about 24F and CS5.
Please help I have 18 tapes shot in 24F and i am wondering if i screwed up choosing that format?

No, since this was a 3 camera shoot for starters I just captured 3-4 tapes to see how the workflow is going to work. I want to use the multicam feature to edit. I tried creating a new project and imorting the clips but CS5 "stops respoding". I import the, lets say clip1. Move it to the timeline, scrub up and down the timeline no apparent problem.
Then I import clip2, CS5 stops responding. I have used CS5 to capture and edit standard video with no problems. But this 24F footage is creating starnge anomalies. The computer was just built breand-new 4gb ram with a AMD phenom X2 processor TB's of storage.
I think it is related to the 24F format. I'm going to capture something in standard HDV to see what happens when I add it to the timeline.
Any sugesstions?

Safari and secure connection issues

Today I started receiving errors when I try to log-in to secure web sites such as e-mail or password protected sites like "My eBay". Before I can get to the log-in page I get a drop down screen reading
Safari can’t open the page “https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.partner=sbc&.done=http%3a//sbc.yah oo.com/” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “login.yahoo.com”.
It has now spread to iTunes and I cannot purchase songs.
I have run keychain first aid in the Access keychain program.
I downloaded the latest security update a couple of days ago. Wondering if it screwed up anything. anybody got any ideas?

System update won't update

I had to do a factory restore and since then no matter what package either I manually install or system install , for system update for Lenovo 3000 N200 0769-alu notebook,, system update still gives run time error code. I have installed and re installed every package offered from when my system was bought in December 2007, one by one from the bottom to the top and the top to the bottom and still runtime error on system update.. Rescue and recovery has also been installed and uninstalled from the bottom to the top, and still only get the old very first rescue and recovery before all the perks came to it in 2008 and 2009. I know system update did a major overall and is now linked through message plus which has also been installed and re installed and all the WER patches show up in cmd as installed ,, But this manual crap is for the birds ,, I just want the system update to update when needed.. Also the bios is showing as updated so that went in okay etc etc. Any moderator have a quick link to a package to solve this problem ,, I have perused the downloads, drivers and software package center for 2 weeks now, uninstalling and re installing various or all of Lenovos packages but still a big runtime error on system update.. The factory restore was all because MS ordered me to do it as it was the only way to get the SP2 Vista update in and after they had totally messed up the system with all there co-pilot wonderful Indian techs screwing around in there trying to get the sp2 update in.. Before that everything was fine.. Now they blame Lenovo,, which is crap, but anyway Mr. and Mrs. Lenovo,, anyone got a quick link for the correct system or the latest system update software package for Lenovo System update .. The 3.14 is the one with the runtime error code.. Any solutions ,, I do like my system current and up to date.. Thanks

Brother DCP 7020 Scanner Driver Problem

Hi,
Hadn't used the scanner on my Brother DCP 7020 in 6 months and couldn't remember how to do scans. Called Brother Tech Support and they reminded me that the icon for scanning is in the Menu Bar at top of screen. For reasons not clear to me at the time they also suggested I delete the Control Center and scanner drivers and download the latest ones from the Brother site. Alas after I did this when I attempted to install the scanner drivers I got the error message "The chosen volumn contains software newer than the software you are attempting to install." The tech said to ignore the message and press continue so I did. When I continued with the installation process I got the message "There is nothing to install."
The tech asked me to reboot but this did not solve the problem so he mumbled something about it being a Operating System problem and told me a higher level person would call me within 4 hours. You guessed it! nobody every called.
Today I tried reloading the drivers that came with the printer but when the process was complete Control Center was nowhere to be found. I tried calling Brother Tech Support again but they never called back.
Having no idea what the problem might be I tried Repairing Disk Permisions but that did not help. Next I booted from the original OS X disk and tried Repair Disk. The utility ran and said that there were "No repairs needed."
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here and what I can do to fix things?

Not sure I follow you. I downloaded the new drivers from the Brother site and when I went to install them I got the error message "nothing to install" or some such thing. Given that the dmg was on my desktop why would the computer not be able to "find" something to install?
I found a thread on this site that said that many folks had printer problems soon after installing the 10.4.11 update and on checking back I found that I haven't used the scanner since I installed 10.4.11. Since the tech guys at Brother mumbled something about it being an operating system problem I am wondering if Apple screwed something up in the 10.4.11 update and is ignoring the problem because of the recent release of 10.5?
Some folks on the other thread said that when they reverted back to 10.4.10 their printer problems went away so I'm wondering if that's what I should do to be able to reinstall the scanner drivers? Or are there worthwhile improvements on the 10.4.11 update that I should not throw away?
Must say that as some one with a technical background (ex race care mechanic) I never cease to be amazed at how Apple, Brother, and other computer companies simply walk away from their problems rather than deal with them. If the folks at Ferrari tried that back when I was in racing old Enzo wouldn't have been too happy. Wonder why ole Bill and Steve don't seem to mind?

This is kind of funny....I just saw this for the first time on Pond5's website and thought it was something that was new, due to NAB15.....after a search here, I'm shocked. It's been a thing since over 2 years ago?? Wow, I never knew....I think its a great idea, but had some reservations about the integration. Wondering if it screws up anything or runs smooth as butter? I too think it is amazing that you can edit with the proxy and conform right to the HD after purchased. Still scared to install, due to my system running very well lately after getting my hands on a new Mac Pro. Don't worry, I've been part of the whole discussion about the 2013 Mac Pro render glitch thingy...Hence me grabbing one of the new ones when they got to the office and I did the switcherooo.

Can't print on an index card

Yes, I'm already trying to print out on index card the text which was created in Word and and then printed to the PDF writer "printer"
Unfortunately, I get my text printed on an 8.5"x11" letter size paper not on a 3"x5" custom sized sheet that I have specified in Word & it shows up in Word as a 3x5 sized paper. Printing on an 8.5"x11" paper is not what I want; I want to print on an index card put into the printer.
I have done this with no problem directly from Word. But since I don't currently have a printer, I need to have the PDF portability to take it to Office Max and get it printed on an index card there.
Even though I specified custom size in Word for the document as 5"(width) by 3" (height). I cannot get the Adobe Pro 8 to produce a custom PDF document that has those specifications. I have gone to Advanced printing options in Adobe Pro 8, PostScript, etc. and save them there (it takes the settings), but it's not coming out, I still get the 8.5x11" letter sized paper. And Office Max didn't know how to do this either.
Is there anyone that can help?

What version of Acrobat are you running? I'm running Acrobat Professional 8.
I can't imagine what I could've done wrong. I'll detail my exact steps and maybe you could tell me what I did.
I have a custom sized Word document that's 3"(high)x5"(wide) shown in the graphic below.
I do a CTL P and get the print dialog box with the default of Adobe PDF,
I click on Properties & get the Adobe PDF Properties with the Adobe PDF Setting tab focused,
      Default Settings: is Standard
               (although here I've also created and Index Card settings and that didn't work either, both w & w/o the last setting below)
     Adobe PDF Security: is None
     Adobe PDF Output Folder is Prompt for PDF filename
    Adobe PDF Page Size: is now Index Card, which I have just created with settings of:
                                             Paper Names: Index Card
                                             Paper Size Width: 5.0
                                             Paper Size Height: 3.0
                                             Unit: Inch
View Adobe PDF Results is checked
Add document information is checked
Delete log files for successful jobs is checked
Ask to replace existing PDF file (it does this even if it's NOT checked) is checked
I click OK and OK again; it goes thru its gyrations and
out pops an 8.5"x11" sheet on the screen with the data from the Word document flush up against the right edge in the middle vertically between the top and the bottom of the page.
Then I go to crop the page to the index card size and first it says I can't change the page size,
so I go to Print Setup and change the size there and go & crop in and nothing happens, it's still 8.5x11.
The only thing I can think of is that you have a different version than me or maybe wonderful Vista has screwed things up.I miss XP.

ITunes 9.01

Last night just before midnight, I got a popup saying iTunes had an update. I was running version 9.0 at the time. I signed on iTunes, got the option to update and then the process started. Before it got very far, it said to shut down iTunes (which I did). Then the update continued. About a minute later, I accidentally clicked on the iTunes icon and iTunes started back up. Whether the update continued during this mistake, I can't say. I DID shut iTunes back down as quickly as I could. The update continued to load and when it finished, it reported that I now have 9.01 installed.
First question...
Do you think 9.01 is the magic bullet that will allow MMS?
Second question...
It doesn't appear that I have MMS yet and if 9.01 was the vehicle that allows this option, I'm wondering if I screwed it up by accidentally starting iTunes during the install process?

From what I have read there will be a carrier update to allow MMS. You shouldn't have to update Itunes or your Iphone OS at all.
Your other question I believe that the newest Itunes just contains some bug fixes.

Using iPad 3G overseas? Help!

I have an iPad2 ATT 3G, which I purchased in the US. I am traveling in the UK and would like replace the SIM and use a UK 3G network. Question is: I have never activated the ATT network while in the States and now I seem to recall reading somewhere that I would have to have done that using iTunes while still in the US, before coming over and swapping SIMs. Am I remembering correctly?, because I bought a UK SIM today and swapped it out and while I'm getting a 3G signal (indicated in the upper left corner) everytime I try to actually use the net, I get a message saying " you are not currently signed up for a data plan, would you like to do so now?", then when I click "yes", I get a message saying "connection failed"
Now I'm wondering if I screwed up and should have activated the 3G before coming over, or maybe there's some other problem. Or maybe I can be on wifi while activating the 3G?
I'll be going back to the place I bought the SIM today to see if they can help but if there is anyone who's been down this road and can shed some light I'd be grateful.

The AT&T iPad is not locked to them - people from the UK and from other countries have bought them, taken them back to their own country, and been able to swap in a local-sim without problems. The Verizon is effectively locked because hardly anybody else uses CDMA.

How Stupid Was I ??? Deleting Time Machine Files

After getting a message that my TM drive lacked enough free space, I impulsively used Finder to delete the oldest back up files (14 months ago). When the Finder didn't show any more free space, I did the old empty Trash. Now after reading through this Discussion board I am wondering if I screwed up.

As V.K. says, TM normally will delete it's oldest backups, automatically, when it needs room for new ones. But it will only do that if you do not have the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box checked in TM Preferences > Options.
The deletions you did may have corrupted your backups. Do a +*Repair Disk+* (not permissions) on your TM drive via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder). If it finds errors it can't fix, run it again.
If it fixes any and all errors, your backups may be ok, and you may get some space back.
If it cannot fix them, your best bet is probably to completely reformat the drive and let TM start fresh. See item #5 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
EDIT: Do not feel stupid. You are far from the first to do this. Apple, unfortunately, does not do a very good job of warning folks not to change, move, or delete things from TM backups except via TM.

Clean the lens first.
No add on is going to "fix" a broken camera if that is the case.
The only real solution would be to take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

I recommend trying to download the songs again from your list or purchased songs. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase the songs, you will not be charged for the songs.
