Word 2013 (Windows 7 64-bit) - Embed PDF as Icon Error

We have a process where we embed PDFs into a table in a Word document as an icon.
This worked for us in Word 2010, but as soon as we upgraded to Word 2013 we started getting an error message.
"The program used to create this object is Package.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  To edit this object, install Package or ensure that any dialog boxes in Package are closed."
Nothing has changed except uninstalling Office 2010 and installing Office 2013.  Acrobat is still there(fully updated XI pro). Acrobat is not open when the attempt to embed is made.
I've tried altering every option I could find that might make this process work, but nothing does the trick.  All software is fully updated as far as I can tell.   It feels like Office 2013 is not keen on the idea of working with PDFs.  The
Acrobat Add-In seems to only promote converting word docs to PDFs, and I found little to no settings referring to PDF embedding or any embedding for that matter.
Does Word 2013 disallow this feature unless you're using Windows 8 and the Windows Reader app?
Any advice would be fantastic.  Thanks.

Hi,
Please try to insert some PDF files from  Insert tab --> Object --> Create New --> Adobe Acrobat Document
In addition, make sure Adobe Reader is the default application to open the PDF files.
If the issue persists, please try repair or reinstall the latest version of Adobe reader and check this again.

  • Userform controls disappearing in Word 2013/Windows 8.1 with High-Res display - DLL error?

I have a .dotm file with a large number of modules and userforms. Creating new documents from the template works fine on almost every computer I've tested it on (hundreds), but I've run into a setup that fails consistently.
Two different Samsung ATIV 9's with a high res display and Windows 8 (64bit)/Office 2013 show the same problem:
When opening a new document based on the template for the first time, it works fine. If I open the VB editor, everything looks normal, userforms are intact.
On the second and all consecutive attempts, it throws a "Type Mismatch" error. Opening the VB Editor, I get a compile error on lines of code referencing components of the first userform (alphabetically). Opening that userform, it shows only a blank
multi-page control, and all the other controls are missing - hence the new compile errors on controls that used to exist. If I remove that userform and save the file, the project compiles, but opening a new document from the template will result in "Word
    has stopped working..."
I can actually reproduce this behavior starting from scratch - new blank document, save as a .dotm. Create a new userform and add a multipage control. Clicking any control in the toolbox to add it to the form will result in a "Type Mismatch" error,
even though there's no VBA code. I can then successfully add the control to the form. But, once I save and reopen the template, the multi-page control is blank, and the other controls I put on it disappear.
I at one point got an error from the VB Editor that it "could not open macro storage" and the included help suggested that might be due to an incorrect version of vbe7.dll.
The only copy of vbe7.dll I could find was at:
    c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7.1
    The dll version was 7.1.10.44
I tried replacing that file with a vbe7.dll file from a working computer (version 7.0.15.89 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\VBA\VBA7), but that just resulted in the VB editor not loading at all.
I have tried both a 32bit Click-to-run version of Office 2013, and installing off a CD with 64bit Office 2013, both had exactly the same error.
The reason I'm wondering if it's a high-DPI display related error is that googling about vbe7.dll errors, I came across this hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880496/en-us
which claims it "Fixes various Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) issues with displays on high-DPI devices."
Neither the 32bit or 64bit installer for that hotfix would run, they said there was no affected programs installed.
My reasoning for suspecting a hardware/DLL incompatibility is this:
    1) It's not the template or the VBA code, since those work elsewhere and the same behavior happens with any file with a userform
    2) It's not the Office version, since both 32/64 bit, MSI and Click-to-run didn't work
    3) It's not Windows 8.1, since this same template works fine on other machines
    4) The first time I open the template on the affected machines, it works fine - but the template is shipped compacted and decompiled. After I open it once and then close, Word has compiled the code and corrupted it somehow, because whatever the first userform
was in the list shows up as blank.
    5) It feels hardware-specific, since out of hundreds of machines, I've only seen this behavior on two of the same laptop model - seems like too much of a coincidence.
Is there any chance the VBE in Office 2013 is somehow incompatible with this hardware? If that might be the case, does anyone have any idea how I'd go about testing and/or fixing it?
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59861.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  If you see an entry for IDT HD Audio ( or very similar IDT entry ), right click the device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.  If there was no IDT entry, just proceed below.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Printing a commercial envelope on an MB5320 in Word 2013/Windows 8.1 is bugged?

I just purchased one of these printers. I was testing printing envelopes, which was one of the main reasons I purchased the printer. I noticed that when setting the paper size to the Commercial D10 envelope (4.125 x 9.5) preset in the Word (using the driver preset entry) and registering the same preset entry from the paper tray, a 1.14" left hand margin was enforced by Word. This caused the return addresses to print in the wrong location, as the margin requirement would not let them be aligned close to the left edge of the envelope.
This seems a problem with the preset. I defined a custom envelope of 9.5 x 4.5 size from Word and registered custom envelope on the printer. Although the paper size shown in Word was larger than the actual envelope, I was able to get the printer to print the envelopes correctly after adjusting the vertical locations of the text blocks. So this does not appear to be a mechanical or feed problem with the printer.
Is the commercial D10 preset broken in the driver, or are there other settings I've missed? The driver I'm using is the current one the Canon website as of July 3, 2015. I am printing by wired Ethernet. I found one other person having this problem on the Microsoft forums, but they were unable to address this problem.

  • Itunes 64-bit on Windows & 64-bit does nothing but give errors!

    I've been trying to connect Iphone 3g 4.0.1 on Windows7 64-bit since last 5 days! Tried almost all the tips found on internet regarding this issue and none worked! At first simply downloaded the latest iTunes 9 (64-bit). It didnt work at all and I ended up seeing different errors. Then read this;
    http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/4318-release-notes-important-issue s-beta-release-windows-7-a.html
    Tried that too and still getting nothing but errors. In last 5 days I encountered the following variety of errors;
Device Manager -> Portable Device -> MTP Usb Devie -> Device cannot start (Code 10)
Device Manager -> Portable Device -> Apple Iphone -> Device cannot start (Code 10)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000023)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "iPhone" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000035)
iTunes -> iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response was received from the device (0xE8000001)
I even tried programs like iPhone Explorer, DiscAid, iFun-box etc. None worked. And now looking for a final answer. Will it work on Windows 7 or not? I am too tired of trying now.

I don't know if this will help, but folks on Windows systems (typically laptops) with PM55 chipsets (like their brethen with P55 chipsets and other chipsets in the 5 series and 3400 series) have been reporting a lot of trouble with iPod/iPhone syncing (in particular, 0xE0000065 error messages, but the symptoms may vary).
In cases where no BIOS updates are available, and the BIOS does not have a user configurable C-STATE setting, some success has been achieved by using an old trick ... changing the power management settings on the USB Host controllers, as per the following document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1401
When attempting to connect iPhone or iPod touch, you may see one or more of the following error messages:
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800000a)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800006b)
    ▪ iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)
Alternatively, the error may be the same as above but end with a different number. See:

    Hope this helps.

  • RH PDF generation problems: wrong (A4) page size and Word 2013

I am trying to generate a review PDF of a handful or topics. It generates, but first I get an error:
    (I have Word 2013 installed.)
Then the PDF generates, but it is A4. I never use metric for anything, so where it is picking up A4 I can't imagine. I have all my PDF settings to letter. I checked Edit > Properties > PDF settings > Advanced settings, everything. It's all set correctly. Even all of my Word templates (which I am not using for this project anyway) are letter. Like I said: No metric pages or units of measure used ever. Not in Word, not in FrameMaker, not in Acrobat. Why does RoboHelp default to A4?
And why does it not consider Word 2013 "newer" than Word 2000?

Word 2013 is not supported by any version of Rh. The first part is correct so Rh throws the error message notwithstanding the second part is wrong.
You haven't mentioned the version of Rh you are using (please see the forum sticky topics) but you might find you can right click Properties in the print layout and generate to Word there. Using that route you may find the answer to the A4 issue. I'm puzzled by that as normally Rh defaults to Letter.
Are you using the PDF add-on or a full version of Acrobat, if the latter which one?

  • Acrobat Pro XI is not recognizing Word 2013 files when I try to combine files in a single PDF. Please help.

I recently upgraded to Office 2013. Everything seems to be working fine with Acrobat Pro XI, except when I try to combine Word 2013 files into a single PDF, I get this message: "Acrobat does not support the conversion of one or more of your files to PDF. . . ." Please help. Thanks.

I've opened both Word and Excel. The Acrobat ribbon is showing in both programs and I did some test things and they seem to be working fine. However,  I still cannot see or use formats other than pdf in the Acrobat Pro program. Is there another setting that needs to be adjusted?

  • Embed a font in a PDF(generated by Word 2013) using Adobe Acrobat XI

    Hi all,
I wrote my thesis in Word 2013 using the LaTex font "LM Roman 12" that is an Open Type font not restricted (it results "Editable").
Although it is marked as opentype, word doesn't embed it into the exported pdf and I guess that is becouse the font is identified as Type1.
I more or less solved the problem printing the word file using Adobe PDF Printer or converting it with Abobe Acrobat XI, but I'd like to use the pdf generated by word becouse auto-creates index, links index items to contents and doesn't resize/alter the images inside the document.
The screenshot above is the properties of the pdf generated from word.
Is there a simple way to force the embedding in this pdf of the missing not embedded fonts?

Word 2013 uses its own pdf creator engine as far as I know. The step I performed were:
1 - In the save settings I told word to embed fonts (sorry for the language, I have the Italian client)
2 - Export from Word -> Save As -> .pdf adding also the table of contents/index
N.B. I cannot use PDF/A, and in any case it doesn't embed the font
A working solution is to use Acrobat XI to convert it or print with Adobe PDF printer, results:
    The problems are 2:
1 - It doesn't create any bookmark and doesn't create links from the table of images to the linked images
2 - Images, also with the preset "High Quality Printing" customized using "No compression", are really ugly and if you zoom a bit more than 100% they totally be s**t. It wasn't that way with PDF created by word.
In the end, or I find they way to open the pdf created by word and embedd the missing font, or I find a way to make Acrobat XI creating bookmarks from the word file.
    Suggestion?

  • Word 2013 with text in front of a shape not converting to PDF with Acrobat XI

    Hello,
I have a Word 2013 document with Shapes (Insert > Shapes) in the background.  Text is in front of the shape, shapes are set behind the text.  I take the document to work where I have Win7, Word 2010 and Acrobat X Pro and it converts perfectly, with the text in front of the shape.  No problem. When I get home, it doesn't work.  At home I have Win7 64-bit, Word 2013 (x64) and Acrobat XI Pro (latest everything, all patches up to date) and when I create a PDF either through Word, right-clicking on the doc and choosing convert, or from Acrobat XI it doesn't display the text.  I get the shape, and it looks like can even highlight the text, but the text doesn't appear.
I just completely uninstalled both Acrobat XI and Acrobat Reader XI and then ran the latest Acrobat Cleaner (R2) and cleaned up both Acrobat and Reader.  Rebooted, installed Acrobat XI (no reader), updated with all the latest patches.  Still, the same problem with everything set to default.
Please explain how to make my life better.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Found the problem.
Adobe, I found a BUG. I want a year of cookies.  Not the virtual type, I want real cookies.  Chocolate.  Maple.
    Word 2013 ...
Create a doc and put some sort of FIELD in the footer.  I used STYLEREF and choose a Style.  That's a very common thing to do for keeping the title of your document in the footer.
Now ... insert a SHAPE.  Make that shape sit BEHIND the text.
    DONE.
Create your PDF.  The text won't be visible.
    BUG.
    Cookies.
    Chris.

  • Bug Report: Original image location sometimes displayed in PDF created with Word 2013

    I found a non-critical security bug in Office 2013.
    Here is the issue:
If you drag and drop an image into Word 2013 (I'm using x64 version in Windows 7 if that matters) and then save as PDF (using the default settings) it saves the full file path of the original file in the PDF such that the full path name gets displayed when
you hover over the image. I've only tested this in Adobe Reader XI. If you use the Insert Picture method then this does not occur.

I found this posting as I have now "rediscovered" this issue. I came to the same conclusion - edit ALT TEXT for every image.
However, I think it is confusing that these paths of image file are not considered Personal Information that can be removed using the Inspect Document feature (I tried - was not successful). The list of things to be removed using this wizard is quite extensive
    - and some of them less visible than these file paths.
It would be interesting to know if this is going to change with future updates of Word. Why is an ALT TEXT included at all per default? I think using the file path in ALT TEXT should be made optional. Is there a way to turn off this default embedding of
    the full path?
As the OP I also used Office 2013 on Windows 7 64bit.
    Elke

  • Adobe Caslon Pro generates enormous PDF files on Mac Word, displays incorrectly on Word for Windows

Had a terrible experience trying to typeset my first document with Adobe Caslon Pro in Word. In Word Mac, 27 page all text document rendered to 70 MB PDF with Opentype features enabled, well under a megabyte with Opentype features disabled in compatibility settings for the same font. Opening same document in Word for Windows (both 2010 and 2013) displayed with incorrect (increased) line spacing and Opentype features (e.g. ligatures) disabled even though they were enabled in compatibility setting (they showed up when I opened the same document in Mac).

Something definitely doesn't sound right here.
We are not aware of any problems using Adobe Caslon Pro with Microsoft Word 2011 on the Macintosh.
Attached is a sample Word document that I created using Word 2011 (with all latest updates from Microsoft), four styles of Adobe Caslon Pro with all OpenType features enabled.
I created a PDF file using “save as PDF” from Word's own “save” dialog, also attached.
I also created a PDF file from the “print” dialog using the “save as Adobe PDF” function (lower left corner of the dialog box), also attached.
In terms of functionality, I don't see the problems you are experiencing. The only difference between the generic PDF and the Adobe PDF appear to be optimization of the fonts embedded in the PDF files.
In terms of cross-platform compatibility, with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, forget about it. Font handling is problematic when you go beyond simple typography and fonts that have only four faces - regular, italic, bold, and bold italic. The cross-platform compatibility problems really have nothing to do with Adobe fonts themselves.

  • Icon issues when embed pdf file into a word document

I recently updated my Acrobat Reader on my laptop with windows 2010 and no every time I need to embed a PDF file into a word document the ICON for the pdf file is not correct, I have to browse manually everytime and it is becoming very time consuming, specially when you need to embed large amount of documents.
This problem it only happens with PDF files, I uninstalled office and the adobe acrobat reader and the problem continues, according to Microsoft support the problem is not word but the Adobe Reader, I do not know what to do since I tried everything on the internet.
It looks to me that somehow when I updated my reader the link between the Reader and Office is broken and office is not correctly linked to the right folder were the PDF reader Icon is located.

You can rebuild the icon database on your windows Vista/Windows 7 system by doing this:
    1) rename the hidden file named IconCache.db to IconCache-old.db.  this file is hidden so you may need to unhide it.  the file is in your profile folder <%userprofile%\AppData\Local> %userprofile% represents the path to user profile folder.
Now Close all folder windows that are currently open and follow these steps.
    1. Launch Task Manager using the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key sequence, or by running taskmgr.exe.
    2. In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
    3. Click the End process button when asked for confirmation.
    4. From the File menu of Task Manager, select New Task (Run…)
    5. Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK.
Hope this helps and let us know if it worked or not.  If this doesn't work then File Association may be another method to try.
    Good luck.

  • Word 2013 error when saving or exporting to pdf

Windows 8 with Office 2013, I am unable to save any Word 2013 document as a pdf.  Using export also gives the same error.
Error:  Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?
Anyone see this, or can confirm save as pdf works in Word 2013?
    Thanks.

    Windows 8 with Publisher 2013:
I had the same issue; first I noted that MS Publisher didn't save as PDF as soon I choosed the option "ISO 19005-1-compatible (PDF/A) ("ISO 19005-1-kompatibel (PDF/A)") - I got every time the error message "Publsiher cannot
save the file" ("Publisher kann die Datei nicht speichern").
I tryed to save as a PDF(-/A) in the other Office programs, like Word, Excel or PowerPoint, but it didn't save it too, with similar error Messages e.g. "Error:  Sorry, we couldn't find your file.  Is it possible it was moved,
    renamed or deleted?"
I played around on my local system, first with uninstalling PDF-printers(/-Drivers), later I uninstalled Adobe Reader, changed my defaul Printer and so on - all with no success.
So finally I decided to completely re-install my Windows 8 and then to install Office 2013 as the first and only application - and violà; all PDF printing Problems were gone!
I'm not sure if this is a pure Office issue, or an issue with Office in interaction with other software. Possibly I used an old Printer Driver which was not proper or something else.
Important is to say, that my Office PDF printing issue was solved with a new and proper installation of Windows 8 and after Office 2013.
    Regards.
