Work breakdown structure (WBS) - Element

Hi Friends,
can anyone explain me about <b>work breakdown structure (WMS)</b> , how it is used and where it is used and tables involved in it .
Please let me know .
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Roberts.K

I can tell you a little about it, I ran into it some time ago on a brief project.  The WBS elements are part of a project management system spans several modules in SAP.  The basic idea is that a project may be broken down into many components and sub projects spread out over the entire enterprise.  A project add new construction to a building for example will have a budget, construction costs, finance costs, etc. and involve resources and time from many different departments within the enterprise.
The WBS elements are the means by which activities these projects and their associated costs are connected to particular components of the project and to the project as a whole.
At least that's what I remember from 4 years ago.

  • Standard Objects for Work Breakdown Structure Element (WBS Element)

In 0FI_GL_4 , there are two fields :
Component    |   Component Type   |   Data Type   |    Length      |    Short Description
PROJK           | PS_PSP_PNR         | NUMC              |      8                Work Breakdown Structure Element (WBS Element)
    PS_POSID      | PS_POSID             | CHAR              |  24               Work Breakdown Structure Element (WBS Element)
For "PS_POSID", there is a standard Object "0WBS_ELEMT" to be matched.
But ,Which object to match the "PROJK " ?   Is that "0WBS_ELM_EX" ?

    Hi,
The object 0WBS_ELEMT_EX is actually for a different puspose.
    Check this. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_em70/helpdata/en/d7/22417391807646910d01ee241628e1/content.htm
So for PROJK, i'd advise you to check what kind of output you get for this field in RSA3 and then go from there.
If you already know what it means, you can try to find a similar object in the content, otherwise just create one with similar element type.

  • I need an advice regarding my site Work Breakdown Structure.

    Hi,
I need an advice on how to design my work breakdown structure?!
I have my WBS divided to Phases and each phase divided to task, there is no details in task(i.e. no lowest tasks under each task).
So may i design my WBS structure as follow:-
    Project
    Phases "top task"
    Task under phases "Lowest task"
    Please advice, Thanks in advance.

    Hi
The structure you have described in a valid one.
The level of granularity of a WBS depends on the practicality of planning and collecting accurate cost for each one of the individual tasks. This may also depend on the company culture, the team discipline, and customer or management control requirements.

Use the field BBSEG-PROJK, it's the WBS number in external formay (Batch-Input format) (ie PRPS-POSID)
Look in (old) [Batch Input Documents|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_45b/helpdata/en/35/a47e63763e0392e10000009b38f9b7/content.htm] for :
Structure BBSEG also contains the fields for one-time data and the data for the coding block. The screen for one-time data is displayed if you have to post to a one-time account or if an alternative payee is to be specified in the document. The data for the coding block in batch input is generally displayed on a separate screen. Here, you should note the following name differences:
         COBL-KDAUF          =     BBSEG-VBEL2     Sales order number
         COBL-KDPOS          =     BBSEG-POSN2
    Item in sales order
    COBL-RMVCT = BBSEG-BEWAR Transaction type
    COBL-PS_PSP_PNR = BBSEG-PROJK Project account assignment
    COBL-PPRCTR = BBSEG-PPRCT Partner profit center
COBL-KDEIN = BBSEG-ETEN2 Schedule line in sales order

  • IM-Work Breakdown Structure

Hi! We are using WBS as a tool in collecting our Capex Projects. When the capex is closed we tagged this as TECO (Technically Completed). My question is, i cannot find a report in IM where you can have the option to view status of the WBS, i.e. Created, TECO, Cancel, Close, etc.
    Appreciate your inputs,
    Thanks

    Hi Robert,
Use transaction code <b>CN41</b>. Input the WBS Element you want to see the status and execute. When the report is generated, if "<b>Status</b>" is not part of the Display/output field, select the <b>fifth icon</b> on the Application toolbar(Click on the <b>little Balck arrow</b> pointing downward on this icon and select "<b>Change Layout</b>"). This would display all the available fields for you. Select "<b>Status</b>" from the left(<b>Column Set</b>) and send it to the right(<b>Column</b>), using the directional arrow and press enter. You would now be able to see the status of your WBS Element.
    I hope the above helps.

  • Define field selection for work breakdown structure

    Hello,
I have the follow problem in PS.
I want a structure with the operative indicators dependent from company code and level.
    EXAMPLE
Company code A Level 1: only Billing elements inputable
Company code B Level 1:  Billing elements displayed , accounting element required
In the transaction OPUK I can do this for only company code or only level.
    Is that right?
Can you help me to resolve this problem?
    Thanks all

    Hi,
You can set up like this
If billing element is : ‘ Yes’
Than following fields are ‘required / optional / Hide’
    If billing element is: ‘No’
Than following fields are ‘required / optional / Hide’
    Using the influencing option button.
I don’t think you can setup at company code level , but defiantly can do at authorization level
    Enjoy SAP……

  • Settlement of order -WBS Element

    Dear Experts,
Can any one tell me what is meant by WBS element and in what scenario,PM orders settlement rule created with category as WBS.If possible tell me with any practical example.
    regards
    KRISHNAN

    Dear,
    Dear,
Budget: Amount of resources allocated under a particular head in a financial year.
Budget Control: Having/ creating a control on the resources allocated in a financial year.
Original Budget: The initial budget that you have allocated to a WBS element.
Supplement of Budget: One time/ discrete increment in the original budget.
Return of Budget: Taking out the unutilized portion of the budget.
Transfer of Budget: Transferring the budget among two or more expense heads.
Project Definition: A framework for a business undertaking with a fixed goal to achieve with given resources.
The project definition contains dates and organizational information that are binding for the entire project.
WBS Element: Individual structural element in a work breakdown structure (WBS) representing the hierarchical organization of an R/3 project. Describes either a concrete task or a partial one that can be further subdivided.
    Proposed Business Process
Assume there are seven expense heads in maintenance department. There may be addition of expense head in near future.
Based on the maintenance heads, maintenance department will create a project in project system. This project will be used for ‘statistical purpose’ only & will not have any financial implication.
Upon creation of a project, WBS elements will be created as per the expense heads. So for each expense head, there will be one top level WBS element. Again these WBS elements will be divided in twelve WBS elements. These twelve WBS elements represent twelve calendar months.
Budget will be allocated to each WBS element & the WBS element will be released from the project.
Maintenance department will create maintenance orders as per their work requirements. These orders will be settled to cost centre, which is maintained in the settlement rule. Also WBS element will have to be mentioned in each order so that the budget control can take place. So as to capture cost from each maintenance order, the WBS element field will be made ‘mandatory field’ in maintenance order.
So when a maintenance order is released, system will do a budget check against the WBS element mentioned. If the budget check status is OK, order is released or else it will stopped from release. If the order is stopped from release, maintenance department will have to supplement the budget. Upon supplementing, the order is released again & the maintenance cost such as, labour, material costs can be booked on the order. Again the order cost is settled to cost centre & at the same time, budget is consumed from the respective WBS element.
Every year, maintenance department will copy the previous year’s project so as to save time & efforts to create project & WBS elements. And the maintenance department will assign the budget allocated to each WBS element in a financial year.
It is also possible to return the unutilised budget or, transfer of budget from one WBS element to another.
    Create a project CJ20N
    Create WBS element CJ20N
    Assign Budget to WBS elementsKO22
    Display assigned Budget KO23
    Supplement Budget KO24
    Display Supplement budget KO25
    Return Budget KO26
    Display Return budget KO27

Hope u wull get ur answer

  • WBS elements in Investment profiles

    Hi Experts,
Is there any way we can check that to which all WBS element an investment profile is attached?
    Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
If an inv. profile (or other customizing settings) is used somewhere, it must not be deleted in the customizing table, otherwise it cause database inconsistency.
To forbid the user to maintain this field at wbs, you can use the
    customizing item
'Define Field Selection for Work Breakdown Structures'  to hide\disable the filed. in the following path: Project System -> Structures -> Operative Structures -> Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) -> User Interface Settings.
Please reward points, if it is helpful.
    Kind regards,
    Zhenbo

  • Difference between WBS Element & Internal Order

    <b>Dear Sap Guru's
Can someone throw some light on the differences between WBS Element & Internal Order?
    Regards,
    Amit</b>

    Hi Amit,
To understand the difference between WBS Element & Internal Order, i shall take them one after the other.
To understand WBS elements, you need to understand the concept of <b>Project</b>.
<b>Project Definition</b> is the framework within which objects are grouped.
It provides the basis for the Work Breakdown Structure(WBS).
In principle Project Definition refers to a single Production Area or License Block
Objects could be sub-projects, phases of a project, distribution of activities, materials, services, general cost elements, etc.
Projects have a start and a finish date whether long term or short term.
<b>WBS</b> is the hierarchical model of the tasks to be performed in the project. It represents the sub-division of work into manageable components which can be budgeted, planned and controlled.
WBS is the operative basis for the further steps in project planning, e.g. cost planning, scheduling, capacity planning as well as project controlling.
WBS can be organized according to phases, according to functions/processes or according to objects (execution projects).
    <b>Networks and Activities</b>
A network represents the process in a project or in a task in logical sequence, and is the basis for detail scheduling.
<b>Networks</b> are made up of two main components: <b>Activities</b> and <b>Relationships</b>.
Through the use of activities, a network represents the flow of a project. Activities are the starting point for planning, analysis and specification.
Networks are also used to generate requisitions of material and services.
    On the other hand,
    <b>Internal Order</b>
Is an instrument used to monitor costs and, in some instances, the revenues of an organization.
Internal orders can be used for the following purposes:
    1. Monitoring the costs of short-term jobs
    2. Monitoring the costs and revenues of a specific service
    3. Ongoing cost control
Internal orders are divided into the following categories:
    1. <b>Overhead orders</b> - For short-term monitoring of the indirect costs arising from jobs. They can also be used for continuous monitoring of subareas of indirect costs. Overhead orders can collect plan and actual costs independently of organizational cost center structures and business processes, enabling continous cost control in the enterprise.
    2. <b>Investment orders</b> - Monitor investment costs that can be capitalized and settled to fixed assets.
    3. <b>Accrual orders</b> - Monitor period-based accrual between expenses posted in Financial Accounting and accrual costs in Controlling.
    4. <b>Orders with revenues</b> - Monitor the costs and revenues arising from activities for partners outside the organization, or from activities not belonging to the core business of the organization.
    I hope the above helps.
Do not forget to award the points please.
    Regards,
    Jacob

  • Difference between WBS element and internal order?

What is the main difference between WBS element number and internal order number?
    Points will be given!

    Hi,
    WBS:
The work breakdown structure (WBS) is a model of the project that organizes project tasks into a hierarchy.
It is the functional basis for further planning steps in a project, for example, for process planning, cost planning, scheduling, capacity planning or costing, as well as project control.
It gives you a clear picture of the project and facilitates the coordination and implementation of the project from a management standpoint.
It shows the work involved in a project.

    Internal order:
Internal orders are normally used to plan, collect, and settle the costs of internal jobs and tasks. The SAP system enables you to monitor your internal orders throughout their entire life-cycle; from initial creation, through the planning and posting of all the actual costs, to the final settlement and archiving:
