Workbook question

Hello Gurus
Is it possible to have a dynamic query and then be able to use  bex formulas to do calculation in the dynamic rows.
thanks

Mark,
you won't be able to do the calculation in the Analyzer grid itself, but you will be able to do it outside of the grid:
For example, I have two queries and they pull the details from two separate multiproviders.  I have the first query populate the analyzer grid and then using the formulas, I pull the data from the 2nd one.  I basically start counting rows from the first data row in the analyzer grid until the end, and use the For/Next combination to put the formulas in
Sub ApplyFormulas()
ActiveSheet.ResetAllPageBreaks
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
X = Range("A7").End(xlDown).Row 'this line will find what the last line in the analyzer grid is
For I = 7 To X
    Cells(I, 5).FormulaR1C1 = "=BExGetData("DP","Per",RC1)"
        Next I
End Sub
Would this work for you?

  • 11g Discoverer - Custom Login and private workbooks questions

I would like to know if anyone has experience with the following issues.
It appears that you could configure a custom login for Discoverer Plus/Viewer (users are authenticated via a custom application > provide a link within the custom application to launch Discoverer Plus > Discoverer Plus authenticate with the database as a generic single/service oracle username for a given EUL).
    My questions:
    1. Since we authenticate users in our application, could we just pass generic user information to allow a Discoverer Plus login via a URL (without the generic password being exposed to the user)?
    2. If a custom login works using a generic discoverer database username, how could you pass a unique user identifier so that a user could create and save their own workbooks privately?
Essentially, we would like to authenticate the Discoverer Plus session via our own application (since the user is already authenticated within our application). And, we would like the Discoverer Plus database session to be generic so we do not require unique database accounts for every end-user. However, we also want the generic Discoverer Plus "session user" to be able to save private workbooks (possibly using sys_context('USERENV', 'CLIENT_IDENTIFIER')).
    Thanks for any insight

    Hi,
    1. Since we authenticate users in our application, could we just pass generic user information to allow a Discoverer Plus login via a URL (without the generic password being exposed to the user)? You can use an HTTP post to send a Discoverer URL that contains both the username and password, so this should allow you to connect ot a generic user.
    2. If a custom login works using a generic discoverer database username, how could you pass a unique user identifier so that a user could create and save their own workbooks privately?I don't think you can do this without using Oracle SSO. I workaround you could explore is for your Discoverer URL to run an initialisation workbook, which takes an encrypted username as a parameter and if this is OK the workbook sets the database environment using PL/SQL and DBMS_SESSION package. The user would then always see the results of the initialisation workbook when they connected which could just show a welcome message.

  • Interactive Workbook Question

I need to create an interactive workbook. The workbook should have areas that participants fill out and can later print as well as submit to a database for grading. Is this possible with InDesign or would another program work better? As an added feature, is it possible to create drag and drop animations and have the results reported to the database.
    Thank you for your help,
    Donna

You can create forms with InDesign CS6 upwards. You create the form in InDesign and finish them in Acrobat Pro.
You can export the form from Acrobat in a way that's enabled so the end user can complete the fields, store the data, print and email it to others. You can create fields that have text boxes, radio buttons, tick boxes and so on, but you can't create fields that the end user can use to insert their own images.
Lynda.com have some useful tutorials on how to do this, for example:

  • BEx Workbook Question

    Hi All,
I have 3 Queries embedded in a workbook. Each query has Product as Selection. Currently, the users are maintaining a variants for Product list. But the problem is that he/she has to maintain the 3 separate variants for each queries.
Is it possible to have one variant that could be used by all 3 queries? If so, how can i do that.
One of the solutions that i heard was to use VBA Interface ( "SAPBEX.xla!SAPBEXsetVariables" )to populate the Product selections, by reading a predefined range from a sheet. Has anyone come across  such code? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Raj

    Thanks Jen/Sravan,
sorry, i am late in thanking you guys for this very useful solutions. But i have one concern.
In my case, i have 3 queries with 3 different variable list.
    Query1
    Reseller
    Product
    Division
    Query2:
    Product
    Division
    Query3:
    Product
    Division
    LoadWeek (User Entry)
I created a variable on Product.
Created another variable on product with replacement path
Variable for Loadweek ( Mandatory, default-lastweek)
I set this query property on the second and third query,
When i run the first query, it shows the variable box with 3 selections viz. Reseller, Product, Division
Second one shows me the variable box ( Query1 variable box) with 2 selections viz. Product,Division
The third one shows variable box with one selection viz Product. I don't see the loadWeek in the selection box.
I tried with setting this property on all the 3 query and same variable values. The problem with this is when you refresh, it does not give you the pop-up, instead it runs automatically. Is there a way to bring the pop-up back?
Is this the way this property works or am i making some mistake?

  • Questions on Workbook

    Hi All,
I have few questions on Discoverer-workbook.
How do i delete a workbook from database ?
How do i import a new workbook in database ?
    Pls explain in detail.
    Thanks,
    JK

To delete a workbook you will need to use either Discoverer Desktop or Plus and delete the workbook using the workbook manager.
You can also delete a workbook using the command line utility available, with the -delete switch and -workbook modifier.
To import a workbook into the database, if you have its export available you can import it using Discoverer Administrator or the Java command line utility. If you have the workbook definition saved as a .DIS file you can load it using Discoverer Desktop and then save it to your EUL (and therefore into the database).
Consult the documentation using the links provided below.

  • Question about "compression option" in workbook

    Hello,
We'd' like to use the compression option in the workbook (with J#).
    I have 2 questions :
-How to set this option automatically by default for new workbooks ?
-How to set this option in mass for old workbooks ?
Thank you in advance for your help
    Best regards
    Nicolas

The note talks about "optimized storage" for a workbook, which I am assuming is the same as the "compression option" you asked about.
    And I quote:
"Solving the issue for a specific workbook:
    - Open the specific workbook in BEx Analyzer
    - Open Workbook Settings dialog
    - Check "Use Optimized Storage"
    - Click on OK Button
    - Save the workbook
Note: As the change is done in the workbook settings, it affects only that workbook.
Solving the issue for any workbook within a system:
    - Login to the BW system
    - Execute transaction RS_FRONTEND_INIT
    - Add a new Entry: ANA_USE_OPTIMIZE_STG = X
    - Save your change
Note: After applying this change, all (re-)saved workbooks will be stored with optimized BI metadata."
Looks to me like it might be helpful, but you can be the judge...

  • Broadcasting Workbooks Variable Assignments Question

We have several Workbooks that are being broadcast.  The majority use Fiscal period and Fical year as input variables.  Right now we have to manually go in and update the variable assignments for these broadcast every week.
    Question -
Without have to setup a  new custom variable in the queries that will default to the current week and year, is there a way to update the broadcast variables automatically with the current fiscal period and year?

As with any normal query - cmod the variable so it defaults to last week, current week based on sy-datlo or sy-datum and then find the last week
The broadcast setting will then fire with whatever has been defaulted
Edit - sorry I just saw your without cmoding how do I do it..
    Sorry that's my only suggestion

If you Don't, then a workbook it's a sheet container. And sheets are each of the reports/queries that you have in a workbook.
And from the Discoverer manual, in the Glossary:
Workbook: "One or more sheets created and saved together. Each sheet is displayed in a sepa-rate tab in the workbook."
sheet : "A tab in the workbook window. A sheet displays the results of one or more queries."

  • Broadcasting of workbooks, auto-refresh and other questions

    Hello Reporting gurus.
Our users run BEX Analyser queries but this is evolving towards more automation and fancy things. A lot of threads exist on the subject but I have not been able to find clear answers. We are on BI 7.
    1) How do we use the broadcaster to refresh workbooks and output the results to a network share drive.
    2) Queries being part of the workbooks work with user input variables. Do I have to change all queries (or create new ones identical) with user exits variables to fill in the fields for auto-refreshing w(ith let say the current year and current fiscal period etc...) ?
    3) Is it possible to create a parameter input screen to pass on variables values to the broadcaster before the auto-refresh takes place so that I don't have to create user exit variables ?
    4) How can we view workbooks with the BEX WEB Analyser ? Or do we have to create an application with WAD ?
    Thanks

    Hi Yves,
in Analyzer you have an menu entry publish with BI broadcaster, then a broadcaster will appear. there you can create a setting. inside that setting you can use a variant and with SPS 13 also variable sets. There you can define the users who should receive the updated workbook by mail. It is not possible to save to file system, but you can save in Portal.Web Analyzer is only to use with WAD and is not able to process Workbooks.
    best regards,

  • Question about the format of the workbook

    Hi experts:
Is it possible to make a report whoes column  is not fix in workbook? like :
                            product1   product2  product3   ......
    sales volume
    anyone has some suggestion?
    Thanks advance .

    HI cindy,
Once you create a workbook, the structure of the workbook cannot be changed automatically (except for the sheet where you have inserted your qeury in which case, any changes you make in this sheet would be lost once you refresh the query or reexecute the workbook) . you can change a sheet that you have created in that workbook and it doesn have any query inserted in that sheet as per my knowledge. Let us know if you find something new.
    regards,
    Sree.

  • 7.x Workbook BroadCasting questions

    Hello Gurus,
We are currently upgrading from BW 3.5 to 7.01 and migrating several Reporting Agent settings to the BroadCaster 7. We need your assistance on a particular requirement for which we cannot find a clear answer online (either on SDN, OSS or SAP related blogs) :
We would like to know if it is possible to BroadCast a 7.x Workbook that contains about a dozen queries (1 per worksheet) by converting each sheet as an individual PDF file. As a workaround, we could accept to split the original workbook into several workbooks (one for each query) but we must be able to export them individually as a pdf.
Additionally, we would like to be able to export the generated pdf files to either a windows server (unless we can send these these pdf via email and automate their extraction / transfer to windows server.
We are aware that most of the precalculation steps for a workbook require to set up a dedicated precalculation server, and we already have looked at a bunch of white papers (including "Checking Precalculation Server Issues for BEx Analyzer Workbooks in BW 7.X"), SDN blogs and OSS notes (among them: 1236773 - BI7.X Precalculation - General Information & Limitations; 1425805 - Hardware&Software requirement for BI7.x frontend....) and threads here (including the popular "Troubleshoot Information Broadcasting") but cannot find a clear and definitive answer.
Therefore, we would like to ensure that our requirements are technically feasible before setting up a precalculation server.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sébastien FRANCAL

    Hi Amer,
You managed to broadcast workbooks ... as PDF files? If you did, can you please detail how because it looks like it`s not possible...

  • Creating a workbook with seven queries- a question??

    Hi All,
I am trying to create a workbook out of seven queries. I am also trying to keep the  title and free characteristics in the Workbook and be able to refresh with new filter values. But when I am running the query I am not seeing the free charateristics in the analyzer after running it. I think it can be done using the design mode function but need help which function to use. In a nutshell..
    1) I want this WB to have free characteristics after running the query along with title and embed six other queries into the same WB.
      How could this be done??
    Thanks for ur help.
    -Akash

    Hi Akash,
Try using Insert navigation pane design item in each of your workbooks sheets, for the corresponding queries.
Click on a cell where you want to place your free characteristics.
    Go to BEx Design toolbar.
    Click on insert navigation pane.
Doble click on the cell , to define the properties of this navigation pane.
Go to dimensions tab. Move the characteristics you want as free characteristics from available dimension to selected dimensions.
Go to diplay tab, and allow all display check boxes
To go back to report display, you can click on the (icon A in the design BEx toolbar), to switch off the design mode.
Hope this is how you wanted it!
    Best regards,
    Sunmit.

  • Regroup queries question in a workbook

    Hello Bex Guru
    I create a workbook with 15 queries.
Can I regroup in ONE screen the variable input ?
Now Bex display 15 times the input screen !!!

  • Question of workbook/query/variable deletions

    Hello,
Needed opinion from the gurus on how deletion of front end objects is handled.
For example, we have migrated workbooks(including query elements, variables etc) to quality. Some of them need to be deleted and no longer are required in production.
Can we delete those objects in development and would it create a request similar to how backend obkjects are deleted? So that when the transport is sent out, it would delete the objects in the target systems.
Or do we manually/programatically delete those objects in the development and in target systems?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts
    Regards
    Prakash

    Hello,
    Thanks for your input.
Does the front end deletion get recorded the same way as backend?
For example, if I delete a query from RSZDELETE. I am not prompted for a transport or a request.
