Writing special characters on a foreign keyboard

Now here is a real brainer for you xp/vista gurus.
I wanna buy a new lenovo in sweden, with this keyboard layout <img>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Sweden.svg</img>, but i need to be able to write with this layout:
<img>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Denmark.svg</img> which is danish. Danish, while very close to swedish has a few differences in letters, namely "ä, ö" in swedish is "æ, ø" in danish. So the question is: can I just set the keyboard layout to danish in vista and hey pronto, my problem will be solved?
100 zimbabwean dollars  for an answer!
thanks in advance

You can set up Windows Vista for use with different keyboard layouts.
Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options
Then click on the "Keyboards and Languages" tab.
Then click on the "Change Keyboards" button.
Then click on the "Add" button.
Select the language of choice. You can use the "Preview" button to verify the correct keyboard layout.
Then click "OK".
You can then change from the different keyboard layouts by pushing "Alt + Shift".
By the way, I'll take the 100 Zimbabwean dollars in cash.

  • Special characters with English aluminum keyboard

well, considering there's probably no Spanish ISO version of the Apple Keyboard (aluminum) available in the USA, does the English version allow the typing of special characters like ñ, á and ç?

Yes. Press Option+N followed by N, Option+E followed by A, and Option+C respectively to produce those characters. For other characters, open the International pane of System Preferences, turn on the Keyboard Viewer as well as the input menu, and see the keystrokes to produce them.

  • Reading and writing Special Characters to Oracle DB

    Hi All,
I need to insert data from CSV to Oracle DB and then use the same data for creating XML file in UTF-8 format.
I have few fields in the CSV file which has and special characters. I'm able to read and write in UTF-8 , but the same procedure is resulting in some other ascii character for .
While reading data from CSV file :
    Reader l_fileReader = new InputStreamReader(p_in,"ISO-8859-1");
    Can anyone help me.

  • Writing special characters

    Hello,
I recently got this MacBook Pro and I'm really happy with it, but there's one thing bothering me. I speak some Swedish and because of this, I need to use the characters ä, ö and å. However, writing the å is giving me some problems. According to most sites, I should just press and hold the alt key and then the a, but then I get æ instead of å. I've tried all possible combinations I think, but no way could I write the å. I can use the special character pallet or keep it under cmd + v, but that's not all too handy. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm new to a Mac, so please explain everything, as I'm used to doing alt + xxx combinations on a pc.
Please note that I have an azerty keyboard.
Thanks in advance and I hope this is not placed in the wrong forum.

In the "Input Menu" tab of "International" system preferences, enable "Keyboard Viewer", and check "Show input menu in menu bar" (bottom of window). That will put a flag in your menu bar that can be used to show the Keyboard Viewer. You can then try Option, Command-Option, and Shift-Option to find the desired characters. (You can use the green dot on the Keyboard Viewer window to make it bigger.)

  • Using accents/special characters in keyboard WAY TOO SLOW!

I'm often using french, and thus many words have many accents (just a short phrase exemple : l'été passé j'ai dû boire l'amère potion de la déception... A short sentence, 5 accents. Can be worse).
I'm typing pretty fast, and already getting frustrated because the french keyboard doesn't have the ' included, which would save so much time in contractions. (Would probably be added automatically if I could use the corrector, but I can't, cause switching from french to english all the time, I just get stupid jumble all the time).
But the worst of the worst is each time I need to type an accented letter, I lose 2.5 seconds! Because that's how long it takes for the accents options to pop-up after I hold my finger on the letter...
    It's completely ridiculous!
Typing a short 3 letter word like "été" takes over 6 seconds!
    It makes me so mad!
I almost completely stopped writing my french emails or Facebook updates and such from my iPod Touch and prefer to wait until I'm on my MBP! Is that normal when you have the chance to own the Touch?!
I've contacted Apple about this many months ago, but like any complaint I've had in the past, never heard of them.
Has anyone else have such a delay with the accents/special characters keyboard (popups)?
Is there something I can do?

Simply copy and paste. Just did it and it worked. Perhaps I'm not understanding something. What do you mean by "insert a font."

  • Swiss French Keyboard - Special Characters

I have a Swiss French keyboard, but I write in other languages as Portuguese, and I have difficulties in writing some special characters as: Á, Í, Ú (I had to copy and past them here in order to write). Is there a complete manual for all characters with the Swiss French keyboard layout?

  • What's wrong with the built-in keyboard on my macbook? The caps button does not work rite, no matter what letter button i push they all come out capitals and the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers!

the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.

You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

  • Why can't I use special characters in my password? This isn't 1995 anymore where a lot of people don't have QWERTY keyboards.

Why does your site not allow the use of special characters in passwords? Do you not want your customers to be as secure as possible?
As a network security admin, limiting passwords to prohibit special characters is an extremely poor security practice.
Telling me that my security as a customer is important, then tell me that your own system limits my ability to keep my account as secure as I would like seems quite backwards. I understand the archaic reasoning was that not all devices have a QWERTY keyboard, this logic is flawed and is no longer necessary.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are experiencing these problems, but sometimes a new machine (be it Apple, Dell, whatever) can be defective right out the box - its not unheard of.
If your machine came with defective hardware and is still under warranty (seems to be the case here) then you have nothing to lose taking it back to where you bought it and, if there really is defective hardware present I am sure they'll rectify the problem.
A small note: these problems are not manufacturer-specific - its pointless blaming the manufacturer as I can assure you this happens with ALL brands. Apple supplies quality hardware and software - I know of a user who has had a machine switched on since 1987 without problems

  • Special Characters on the keyboard

Is there a way to assign special characters to particular key sequence? When one needs to write in different languages switching keyboards becomes impractical. There must be a way to assign, say: ą, to a combination of keys such that US keyboard can still be used.

    1) Lots of such characters can be made with the US Extended layout. Here is a list

    2) You can make your own layout with any characters you want with Ukelele

  • Keyboard binding special characters

I'm a new Mac/pages user and I'd like to be able to keyboard bind several special characters I use for my legal notes (π, §, Δ) through a command + p, s, d or something similar. It was fairly easy to do so in Office, but I can't seem to get it to work in pages. Pull downs work fine but I'm looking to streamline and the number of time I use, at least, those symbols will slow down productivity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Consider yourself lucky.
France and the EU have intelligently not signed a "Free Trade" agreement with the USA unlike Australia and Canada.
We both got screwed. Big time. Our products are still largely discriminated against and the USA gets protection for excessively long IR, and gets free access to our markets, which it then controls to over charge.
They were whooping with joy in the US Senate when the bills got passed, until they realised we were probably watching, when they put on a straight faced earnest "this will be good for both countries" spin.
Imports from the States have more than doubled whilst our exports to the States have declined. Most of our agricultural and primary exports are still banned from the States under the so called "Free Trade" agreement.
The only satisfaction I have is that the government that signed it was thrown out of power in the previous election. But the damage is done.

  • Keyboard repeat goes to special characters

    Hello,
Noticed since i upgraded to OSX 10.7, that when i hold down a key on the keyboard, a little box pops up that shows special characters that corrsepond to that specific letter. For example, when i hold down the letter "o", i get options for the following letters: ôöòóœøōõ
is there anyway to change the settings so that the letters will repeat when i hold down a letter?
    Thanks All.
    ~Brandon

Ditto - thanks for the Terminal command.  I had been resetting, rebooting, cleaning, etc., and no results.  Now, I don't know exactly when the repeat problem arose, but I became aware of it when a few of my keys on my MBPro were reluctant or didn't work.  I then "discovered" the repeating problem.  The problem keys had cleared up but now I was faced with the repeat issue - may have been there a while since one doesn't use the fast repeat that often.  All better now...
