WRT600N QoS settings do not affect upstream rates

I have recently purchased a WRT600N router as I have a hard wired wired VoIP phone (Aastra 9112i). I have set the QoS priority for the physical Ethernet port that the phone connects to as high and all of the other ports as normal (I have even tried setting all of the other ports to low).
The problem I have is that the QoS settings do not affect the upstream rate. I have Shaw Highspeed Extreme service and have run speed tests to Speedtest.net throught the router and can get 20Meg down and ~1 meg up. When I change the QoS settings on the physical Ethernet port my laptop is connected to, the QoS settings do affect the download rate but the QoS settings do not seem to affect the upstream rate.
Is there any firmware update for the WRT600N where the QoS setting will control/ throttle the upstream rate or is there some other settings I could use on the WRT600N that will provide priority to my VoIP phone.
Thanks,

I just checked the Linksys download page and the firmware version posted there 1.01.35 is the same version I have in my router. Please let me know if there are any development plans for the WRT600N QoS controls so the the QoS setting also police the upstream/ upload rates.
Thanks,

  • WRT600N QoS Settings

Can someone please explain to me how do I set up QoS on my new WRT600N router? I am quite new at this and not sure what is the best way to configure the QoS on my router to meet my requirements. I am constantly downloading from the newsgroups from my main pc but I would rather give priority to browsing the web from all the pc's; my pc, family room pc and my wireless laptop. How do I set this up so that normally the newsgroups are getting my full 100% bandwidth but when someone uses the web it automatically slows the newsgroups down so they can get as fast as possible? I am on a 512k speed dsl so I don't have too much bandwidth to spare. Also does QoS apply to clients connected on wireless or does it work only with wired connections? Any help would be highly appreciated.

To work with a wired component you'd need to have a WGA600N adapter to connect wirelessly (the adapter has its own Ethernet cable that plugs into the wired component, and then connects with the wireless router or gateway), assuming you didn't want to run extra Cat5 cable. Otherwise you connect a wired component like any other. The QoS function allows for prioritization of data streams such as gaming, applications, media (music, video, etc.). First determine if what you want to prioritize is part of the default list on the router itself. If so, all you need to do is select it on the list (choose by Category first, then look through the different Applications and choose what you want if it's there). All of the Default selections already have the proper ports selected for priority routing to the destination you want to send priority data to. Selecting Medium Priority is the recommended option according to Linksys. If it's something else you want to add, first make sure you have either the Port settings you need, the IP address or the MAC Address you want to prioritize before you proceed. Then you need to select the type in the Category Menu, then in the Application Menu scroll down until you see "Add a New .." Application, Online Game, etc. whatever it is you've selected in the Category. This will bring up the Port Settings blocks.Enter a name that suits you, and then enter the Port Ranges, IP Address or MAC Address you want prioritized. When finished, click on the Add button and it will add it to the Summary. Make sure the Internet Access Priority checkbox is checked Enabled. You can add as many you need, but keep in mind that prioritizing too much is redundant.

  • Regional settings is not effecting in SQL Server

    Hi All,
I made changes to the regional and language (made decimal = ,) of the windows server 2008 R2 Standard but the database still not accepting comma as a decimal point.
Tried restarting the SQL Server services and restarted the server without luck.
    Really appreciate inputs.
    Thanks,
    Ram.
Please don't forget to Marked as Answer if my post solved your problem and use Vote As Helpful if a post was useful. It will helpful to other users.

    1. Right click on the server name.
    2. Click on Facets.
    3. Then select Server Configuration Facet.
    4. Look for Default Language.
    5. Set it to values as given in the below link:- For Ex: 1 for German
This changes the default language for new users. (And I don't think there is a need to restart of SQL Server, but I have not checked.)
To change the default language for an existing user, use ALTER USER.
But of course, the whole talk about language setting in SQL Server in this context is completely uselss. SQL Server only knows about decimal points. This applies both to literals in the code, and when interpreting strings with CAST/CONVERT.
Everyone is correct that that regional settings does not affect SQL Server - nor should it, it is a server after all.
One more point here when i try creating a filtering functionality on application it is creating decimal as "." not "," is this issue related to application or DB?
I have no idea what you are doing, but the answer is probably the application.

  • WRT600N QoS Not Saving

WRT600N using 1.01.35 build 3 Does not save QoS settings. -- I enable QoS -- Category MAC Address -- Set a name -- Set MAC address (verified correct) -- set Priority high -- Save Settings Yet, upon refresh the entry is there but no priority? If you want to do a bug report you have to contact Linksys support. This forum is community only.
    Regarding your issue:
    * check the Error Console of Firefox if it shows any specific error messages when you are on the QoS page. Maybe it is a bug in the JavaScript code. It may gives some pointers for a bug report, too.
    * software firewalls and/or antivirus software like to mess with JavaScript. The routers use very much JavaScript. Not fully functional web pages are often due to the firewall filtering some of the JavaScript. Make sure to turn off the firewall on the computer completely or deinstall it or try a different computer which does not have a software firewall installed.

When I set for batch capture by creating off-line clips using the "Log Clip" option the off-line clip shows audio as
32KHZ 16-bit  everyting else is correct as project settings.
Just prior to creating the off-line batch capture clip I had sucessfully captured from the same device using the same tape shot with the above settings including 48khz 16-bit audio by using standard " Capture" by setting in & out then clicking Capture>In/Out.
I've looked at capture settings etc...unable to determine to change audio settings etc or why the audio settings under batch capture do not conform to project settings...
    Any ideas?
    Tnx,
    mick

    Thanks for your reply, Harm....
Well now...having negated all the possibilities you listed, I decided to do a an actual batch capture with clips which I previously logged which reported audio at 32kHz instead of the project setting of 48kHz:
    1. two clips  were selected from the same device/tape ( both selected from the logging util which erroneously reported audio at 32kHz) for the batch
    2. both clips captured "flawlessly"
    3. both clips after the batch capture then reported audio as being 48kHz
Btw, I also did a batch capture from the same device/tape in Pr 6.x...and it reported and captured at 48khz...I must say, I must prefer the legacy version of Pr 6 for batch capture which creates a log .pbl file which can then be easily exported as a csv to and .xls etc..IMO, much more useful...and useable..
    Mi dos pesos(.002US)
So it would appear there is some kind of bug in the Pr cs4 batch capture util that is erroneously reporting audio settings?
Should this go to the devel as a possible bug?
    Tnx,
    mick

her contacts are connected directly with the Google Server so as long as they are saved to her Gmail account she should be 100% fine.. the only contacts she may lose are the ones that she added directly onto the phone and did not sync to her Gmail account.. so you should just double check with her on that

    Hi,
While configuring push settings for google cloud messaging in azure mobile services, i entered the server key received from google developer console.
When i try to save the entry, i get the message The push settings were not saved <mobile-serversices-site>: Error 400
I have regenerated the key multiple times but of no use.
Am I missing something? I am a paid subscriber of Azure
    Thanks, Laks.

Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes there are transient errors in the portal that affect whether or not the settings can be saved. Also, you should make sure that you have an associated notification hub (which will show up in your push settings). If there
is no associated hub, you will always get errors when trying to configure.

  • X3500 QoS settings -- do they do anything?

    Hi,
I've had an X3500 for a few weeks, and while it's functioned reasonably well I've been generally disappointed at the quality of the firmware (v1.0.0 build 18).  One problem I'm having is with the QoS settings:
whenever I change something and click 'save', my wireless connection drops pat
nothing I do on the QoS page seems to have any effect on traffic patterns
I've tried every combination of settings to prioritise traffic for particular applications (including all three QoS types on the 'setup' page), but none of them have any effect.  At times of high load, traffic does not seem to be prioritised in any way.
Has anyone managed to get any measurable results out of the QoS settings?

I see what you're saying, but the wireless drop is at the data link layer: all the wireless clients actually disconnect from the network, rather than simply being throttled or being unable to pass traffic.  It's as if the access point has re-initialised and dropped all connections.  Sadly nothing useful is written to the log when this happens apart from the DHCP requests as the clients reconnect.
I've tried high- and low-throughput devices, wired and wireless, WMM on and off, and all three QoS types, but I'm unable to detect any effect at times of high load.

  • About QOS Settings with WRt120N router~HELP~

I have a question with the QOS settings, after I set the Priority for my 4 devices via MAC address, including 1 xbox, 2 notebooks and 1 PC with usb wireless adapter. Xbox has the high, and the others are medium. Here is the problem, after I activate the QOS settings, the network on the 2 notebooks and PC is slow. Not entirely slow, but when I try to open a web page, it takes longer time.About the XBOX,I am not sure about its reaction. Please help me out.

Well as you have setup a High Priority for your XBOX under QoS, whenever your XBOX is turned On, Your Router will provide a Maximum Bandwidth of your Internet to your XBOX and it will slower down your Other Devices on your Network.
As you have so many devices in your Network, so i would suggest you not to use QoS Serivce... Or else if you want to use it then you can Turn Off your XBOX whenever you are going to use other Devices ( Computers).

In order for networking device to classify traffic, there is certain information within a frame or packet to identify the importance of a frame or packet. CoS, IP Precedence, and DSCP are widely used nowadays.
CoS is in layer 2. IP Precedence and DSCP are in IP header.
In a dot1q tag, there are 3 bit used to identify the importance of the frame. As CoS is 3-bit, the range is between 0 to 7. In normal Cisco VOIP implementation, Cisco IP phones mark CoS 5 on RTP frames. Data traffic is put on native VLAN; so that there is no 802.1q tag on data traffic. By default, Cisco switches put any traffic without 802.1q to be CoS 0 and DSCP 0.
Before DSCP is used, the second byte in IP header is called ToS (Type of Service). It was used to classify IP traffic. Like CoS, IP precedence is 3 bits.  Thus, the range for IP precedence is 0 to 7. After a while, we find out that 3 bit is not long enough. We expand IP precedence from 3 bites to 6 bits. It is called DSCP. As DSCP is 6 bits, the range is 0 to 63. Normally, Cisco IP phones mark EF (DSCP value 46) on RTP packets.
QoS on campus switching is different than router. In router, we normally mark and police the traffic just before going to ISP. As a result, you determine what traffic is dropped if the traffic going to ISP exceeds the bandwidth of the circuit.
We normally classify traffic on ports connecting to phones and end devices. To simplify configuration, Cisco switches allow you to trust CoS; so that VOIP traffic is classify with CoS 5. Different switches have difference queues. However, all Cisco switches put CoS 5 or DSCP 46 into priority queue. Once traffic is classified on the access switches, we can simply trust DSCP or CoS on the links between switches. We should use trust DSCP on any layer 3 links. Also, make sure that voice VLAN is not used as native VLAN.
The last question is what happens if a users put a data device on the voice VLAN and construst frames with CoS 5. Here comes extended trust. Switches have to receive CDP on the port before trusting the device on the voice VLAN is a VOIP phone. Not sure if I miss anything.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • Photoshop and CS6 Epson Page Settings do not stick

I am using Photoshop Extended CS6 on a Mac with OS 10.7.4 and the latest driver for an Epson 7800 just downloaded from the Epson site. In the Print Settings dialogue "Page Setup" defaults to "Roll Paper - Banner" and any other selection such as sheet does not stick when saving a printing preset. Once selected, it appears to stay for one print, but returns to roll paper so that it needs to be reset with every print.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, have you found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Ed,
I noticed the same thing with the margins, however, as I use mostly large sheet sizes (I had the paper curl of rolls) that does not affect the lack of a sticky setting for "sheet" when I save a preset.
I had three conversations this week with Epson Technical Support. The last one being today with Ron who took control of my desktop and found out for himself exactly what I was saying. He then spoke to others in his department and came back with the response, "apparently this is an issue we are aware of and it will be fixed." "When," I asked. He didn't know and said to just keep checking for an update their drivers page.
Personally, I will not hold my breath. I would suspect that in the grand scheme of things, this bug is of very low priority.

  • My magic trackpad settings do not save

Hi I just bought and successfully paired my magic trackpad with my Macbook Pro 2011, running Mountain Lion.
However the trackpad settings do not save for longer than a few minutes. It keeps reverting back to the default.
This is really annoying. It also affects the normal trackpad when I have unpaired the magic trackpad, so I suspect it is some glitch in the OSX.
    Appreciate any help!

Make sure that you have continuous auto assign buttons NOT checked for the menu or the buttons can keep on being reset - are they reset to what the original navigation was set (in other words if the buttons were not moved like you did, they would navigate.) Picture below shows where to select not auto assign in pull down

  • Understanding Seq. Settings as Related to Frame Rate and Field Dominance

Hello All, I pondered just how to ask this question and have studied the FCP manual, especially Vol. 4
Pages 361 on. My HD project is a mix of stills and live video. The video was shot on a HV20, green
screen, captured thru an Intensity Card as Prores. (DV Matte Blast does the keying rather well).
The sequence settings are 1080i with an editing time base of 29.97, this matches the live footage. We
are getting close to the question! I noticed that I can change the field dominance to NONE, and add
my video to the timeline and still have a gray bar and good playback. I know Final Cut is doing a lot of
tricks in the background, but I would like to be sure that my sequence settings are not going to come
    back and bite me
Is the net effect producing, on output, a progressive image? When I output to a QT movie I can choose
29.97 or 30 FPS. This project is not for broadcast, it will be played back off a computer, or Apple TV
    in a museum setting.
I know that this is my mission, and any help in a better understanding production path is appreciated.
    Thank you, Tom

Well, I was recommended to do that when using in animation.
I am very new on the AEP and FCP, so some of my friends who works on AE on PCs (I am in Brazil at the moment and few have MACs to help me)and AVID told me to change the frame rate in the composition to 60, render the 2 fields starting with lower (for TV purposes) and do the final render in 30 Frames. The reason is that the 2 fields would blend perfectly and the animation would not be shaking at the end.
Is that another simple way to do that?
I just did a test to see the final result on the DVD: got the movie with no compression and save it with DV-NTSC compression and imported to IDVD. The lines have disapeared when viewing on the play mode.
