WRT610N V2 wired as 2ndary router to wired router, does not give IP address wirelessly

My WRT610N V2 is wired as 2ndary router to a wired router but it does not give IP address wirelessly to connected PCs.
It is getting DHCP IP address in the 192.168.1.xxx range from the 1st router, on its internet port, and issuing properly an IP addresses in the 10.10.1.xxx range thru its LAN port  when wired to a laptop.
But if I connect to its 10.10.2.xxx wireless network with another laptop, the wifi adapter utility software shows the laptop is connected, but the laptop is not receiving an IP address.  Please help in correcting this, as I need to use this router to give internet access wirelessly to guest laptops.
I know DDWRT does this kind of bridging with secondary DHCP when both routers are connected wirelessly, but it seems to me that if the 1st and 2nd router are wired together, DDWRT shuld not be needed for 2ndary HCP to take place.
And 2ndary DHCP is indeed working for those laptops wired to the 2ndary Cisco router: seems to me it should be able to do it also wirelessly.

  • ATT hooked up new u-verse router, now time capsule does not work and airport utility does not see it ?

ATT hooked up the new U-verse router replacing the older 2wire router. Old 2wire router worked fine with Airport +Time Capsule. Now only the amber light flashes. When I try to reconnect with Time Machine it does not find the Time Capsule nor does the airport utility find the Time Capsule. Any help?

Okay, the 3801HGV also doesn't bridge - but there is a workaround. Info on the workaround comes from 'SomeJoe7777' at this link:
    http://forums.att.com/t5/Residential-Gateway/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV- bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/td-p/2707013
As for connecting to your TC: the 3801HGV uses a default IP address of 192.168.1.254. It passes out IP addresses to your networked devices, and all of those IP addresses will be 192.168.1.something. The TC uses a default IP address of 10.0.1.1. As your primary router, if the TC's defaults weren't changed, the TC would be handing out addresses to your networked devices that are 10.0.1.something.
If your computer has an IP address of 192.168.1.something, it won't be able to see the TC if the TC's address is 10.0.1.1 (or anything else that's not 192.168.1.something). Hopefully that makes sense!
Go into System Preferences on your Mac, and click the Network icon. Click on Ethernet on the left side, and you'll be able to see what IP address your Mac has been given. My guess is that it has a 192.168.1.something address from the 3801HGV.
If I'm right about the 192.168.1.x address, and that your TC is running with 10.0.1.x addresses, then that's why your Mac can't see your TC. In this case, you need to change the Mac's Ethernet setup to manually set your Mac to a 10.0.1.x address for the TC to see. To do this, go to System Preferences, then Network, then click Ethernet on the left side.
Set the Configure IPv4 dropdown to 'Manually', and it will open up some places for you to fill in information:
IP Address: 10.0.1.15 (or a similar number that won't conflict with your TC's address, but starts with 10.0.1)
    Subnet Mask: put in 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.1.1 (I'm assuming here that your TC was running with the default IP address; if it was something different, then set Router to whatever IP address your TC was using.)
Then, click the Apply button to make your changes active.
Now, since your Mac's IP address will be in the right "subnet" for your TC, they should be able to see each other. (It's kind of like having to live on the same block as someone to be able to talk with them. In general, if your computers don't have similar addresses, they can't talk to each other. Of course that's simplified greatly, but you probably get the idea...)
Once you've got the IP addresses matched up, you should be able to see your TC. At that point, you can update the TC to work with the 3801HGV. I recommend setting it to bridge mode, but if you can follow SomeJoe7777's advice, go for it!

  • Routing Issue between router and Access Server

    Hi,
We have a Lucent MAX TNT access server, having TAOS version 9.0.9. I
    have configured
the default route so that all dialup user traffic is diverted towards
cisco 2611 series router but this
only happens with the IP subnets configured on MAX TNT and cisco router
    ethernet interfaces.
We need a solution in which dailup users on MAX TNT with IPs from any network can
be routed towards the cisco router in order to reach the internet cloud accross the Router.

    Muhammad
Your message states that you have configured the access server with a default route pointing to the 2611 router. But it does not say whether you have configured a route on the 2611 pointing to the access server for the address range used by the dial pool which the access server uses to assign addresses to dial up users. I suspect this is your problem. I believe that the 2611 needs a route to that address space and that the 2611 needs to advertise that address range if there are any other routers in your network.

  • My WRT54G router does not function

    Dear All,
I have a Wireless-G broadband router WRT54G, which is connected to a speedtouch ADSL modem.
When I connect the Modem directly to my pc, the internet connection is ok.
When I connect the Modem to the router, and then open the web tool, (192.168.1.1), I can see that the status of the router is connected, DHCP is enabled, and the username and password are correct for sure.
I connected the pc to the router and got an IP address 192.168.1.100 given by DHCP, the DNS is also configured automatically and is correct, but there is no internet connection, everything I request does not give any response, I had a look on the connection status to the router, I can notice that the router is not giving me any packets.
I tried to upgrade the firmware (but I already have the latest version since a month and everything was ok during this month), and tried to reset to factory settings and reconfigure the router, but was useless.
I even tried changing the ethernet wires. But nothing works.
Is it a hardware problem or did I miss something?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Yaman

Hi… reset the router back to factory default settings.
    1)    Logon to router’s setup page and go to status tab, check the WAN/Internet IP, if it gives you 192.168.1.x, go to setup tab and change LAN IP to 10.10.10.1, save the settings and power cycle the n/w, check whether it works or not.
    2)    Well in the status if IP address is 0.0.0.0, go to setup tab and change LAN IP to 10.10.10.1, also change Internet Connection Type to PPPoE and setup user name and password, save the settings also reduce MTU to 1458 and power cycle the n/w. let me know the results.

  • Router does not answer

My router does not work with my computer but it works with my external driver. Also I have a PC conected to the router and it works...

My router does not work with my computer but it works with my external driver.
I don't understand the second part of that sentence.
As far as your computer is concerned,
    1. Change the ethernet cable.
    2. Open a browser on your Mac, and enter the router's ip - the manual will tell you what it is. Usually something like 192.168.1.1. You may have to wait for a response. If you do get a response. it will be a log-in window asking for a name and password. This info too should be in the manual.
    3. Follow the instructions to set up your Mac to communicate with the router.
If this does not work, post back with a description of what happened.

  • Home Sharing not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.

Home Sharing is not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.  I installed a new Verizon FIOS ActionTec  MI424WR GigE wireless / ethernet router, replacing the original FIOS router.  With the old router Home Sharing worked fine across and among all iOS and Windows wired and wireless devices.  With the new router Home Sharing works between and among the Wired PC's but not between the wired PC's and the Wireless connected PC's or iOS devices.  Home Sharing also works between and among the wireless connected PC's and iOS decices but not between them and the wired PC's.
Only the router was changed.  No changes were made to any of the devices except all were updated with the latest version of iTunes 10.7.0.21 and the iSO devices were updated to iOS vrsion 6.01.  Three PC's are wired and all are running Windows 7.  There also is a Windows Home Server connected to the router by ethernet port.  It does not run iTunes but does provide WebDAV services to my iOS devices.  This works fine.  Two PC's are wireless, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.  All of the PC's are connected to the same (new) router via it's ethernet ports and it's wireless access point.  Two of the wired PC's are connected via a high-speed  ethernet hup that is connected to the router (Home Sharing works fine between the two PC's on the hub and the PC on the router).  All wired and wireless devices on the router are visible and members of the router's Home/Office virtual network.
All of the PC's are visible in the Windows network and all shared files are accessable from all PC's, both wired and wireless.
Obviously the router seems to be the issue, something between the ethernet and the wireless access point components.  I checked the settings and found nothing that would prevent Home Sharing between the wired and wireless devices.  There is no setting that isolates the wireless network.  I have done the following:
Read the router user manual and checked all the settings
    Rebooted the router and tested.
Turned off the router's firewall and tested.
Home Sharing is turned on all the devices and all use the same Apple ID.
    Restarted iTunes and tested.
Verified iTunes is "Allowed" in each PC's firewall.
Again, I can Home Share between the two wireless PC's but not between either of the wireless PC's and any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between my iPads and iPhones and either of the two wireless PC's but not with any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between any of the wired PC's but not between any wired PC and a wireless PC or iOS device.
I hope someone may have had a similar problem and has a fix suggestion.  I'm stumped!  I have a;so contacked ActionTec and awaiting an answer.

    Solution from ActionTec is:
    Log into your router.
    Click the Advanced icon
    Cclick Yes
    Click on the IGMP Proxy
    Select Disable
    Click Apply

  • Wireless Router WRT160N wired to desktop, I loose internet when wireless laptop is off.

I have the wrt160n v2 wireless router, it does not work for me.
If my XP wireless laptop is only powered ON the Vista desktop internet wired will work, I am not wired or wireless using the laptop, not in internet, only powered on.
If the laptop is off I have no internet on the desktop, still plugged thru the router.
The laptop is used and I was unsure if the built in wireless was new enough so I bought a card to go in it for wireless.
When everything is on all is well for playing on the internet times two computers, but if you turn off the laptop I have to plug the internet directly into the desktop to continue in the internet.
I started to work with tech support yesterday and they are hard to understand. I did bring in the newest firmware and still have the problems.

  • HT1595 cannot connect ATV to actiontec router with wired ethernet.  router does not see ATV.  is there a way to test the  ATV ethernet port on the back?

have an 3g ATV (5.0 4099) wired via coax cable to actiontec MI 424-wr router.  Router cannot see ATV.  Is there a way to test ethernet connector on back of ATV?  ATV does work when setup for wireless but its much too slow for actual use when configured that way.

    Steve,
I think the isssue is clearly that your router is not acting as a DNS Server.  You will need to contact Verizon to see how to configure it so that it does supply the DNS addresses.  If you can configure it in your Router try using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the DNS Server addresses.  These point it to Google's Public Domain DNS Servers.  There are others (opendns.org).  But for now these will hopefully get you up and running.

  • Wireless Router Without Wired Host

I got my new Linksys WRT54G wireless router hooked up last night but I'm having trouble getting it working.  I want to use it without having a computer wired to it but all the Linksys instructions show it connected to a desktop via an ethernet cable and the wireless connection going to other computers.  Do I need a host computer or can I connect the router only to the cable modem and have it work wireless with my laptop?

You only need to have a computer wired to the router for initial setup and maintenance of the router.  This includes:
    1) initial setup of the router
    2) firmware upgrades for the router
    3) changing settings in the router, especially wireless settings
Therefore you will need a wired connection the first day, and occasionally thereafter, when the router needs maintenance.
Otherwise, you can use it wirelessly.  You do not need to have a computer constantly wired to the router.

  • Network Magic thinks wireless router is wired.

Please tell me how to correct this issue.  Network Magic sees my wiresless d-Link router (DIR-601) as a wired network.  I have checked the router settings and everything says wireless.  How can I correct this?  thanks?

  • Airtunes does not work on ethernet-wired PC

I have recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT54G to a dual-band Linksys WRT610N. I have an older Airport Express (G only) which worked fine with the old router. I used it for Airtunes only. I have a PC hard-wired via ethernet to the router and two PC laptops which use the wireless network. When I installed the Airport Express via the Airport Utility using the new router, I was able to access my remote speakers only on the laptops which use the wireless network. The desktop PC which is hard-wired to the router, does not show the remote speaker on the bottom. I have upgraded the firmware and downloaded all the new drivers for the Airport Utilities.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem. I read about it here: http://reviews.cnet.com/wireless-access-points/apple-airport-express-base/4864-3 265_7-30910240.html?messageID=1343886
They seem to suggest that there's no way other than enabling wireless on the PC. That seems pretty stupid to me, so I'm wondering if there is a better work-around.

  • I recovered my back up via a wired connection. now Time Machine does not recognise older back ups wirelessly and wants to do a first back up

I recovered a back up from my time machine via a wired connection after getting the 'white screen of death'. Now Time Machine does not recognise any back ups on the time machine when connected wirelessly and wants to do a first back up of the whole machine. How do I get my mac to recognise these older back ups? It connects to the wifi network the time machine creates fine, with the same name and password.

    I recommend the following.
    1. Reset the TC to factory.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Rename the TC to SMB standard.
That means short names.. 2-20 characters but less than 10 is excellent. eg TCGenx (use number for x that is actual generation of the TC)
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
    3. Ensure IPv6 is set to link-local..
Do the same thing for ethernet if that is used.
    4. Manually mount the TC disk in Finder.
Use Go in the top menu.. connect to server.
    Type in
AFP://TCname.local (where TCname is your new short name for the TC and local is default domain .. it helps using the domain I found).
You will then find the computer either can or cannot find the network resource.. if it fails something else is wrong with the actual network and you will need to fix that.
It will request the password if it is found.. password is public by default unless you changed it.. type in the password and check to keep it in your keychain.
    5. Delete current TM setup and redo it with the newly named TC.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If your backups cannot be found, try B6 again, now that you actually know that the disk has been properly discovered.

  • WRTU54G-TM T Mobile, works fine in wireless but does not work in WIRED connection

This is really weird. This router has worked fine for little over years. It has it's up's and downs but yesterday. It stopped working on the wired mode. I can see my computers connected on the DHCP list but it does not show internet. On my WIRED computers connected to the router, it says no internet access and cannot find gateway. it is setup as DHCP automatic like it has been for ages. I used the setup wizard with no success. IT SAYS NO ROUTER FOUND, please check connections.
The 4 ethernet lights are green and on completely on when nothing is connected to it at all on the wires.
Now wireless is completely fine and I can see the router and everything else but connecting WIRED just doesn't work. It can see my wired computers on the DHCP client list but anything wired has no internet or connection.
I tried even wiring it directly to my laptop and it does the same thing. But connecting wireless is perfectly fine and dandy.

All the 4 Ethernet port lights are lit up when nothing is connected to the router.
I think the router is not working properly.
Do you get a valid IP address like 192.168.1.xxx  on your wired computer?
Try to ping the default gateway and see if you get replies from the router.
You are able to access the Internet on the wireless computer?
What IP address do you get on wired and wireless computer?

  • Why does my mac use the wireless network when the wired network (faster) is available?

My mac is connected to my gigabit wired network, but insists on using the (decidedly slower) wireless network.  When I connect the ethernet cable, I can see that Ethernet moves to the top of the list in my network options... but investigation using the Network Utility shows that all the data is still transferred over AirPort unless I disable it.  That shouldn't be necessary.

Do you NEED Airport and Ethernet on at the same time?
Like @PAHU said you can use Locations to set up a different connection and/or network when you only need the Wireless.
Setting a "Location" is an excellent way to separate the networks. If you use a "Location" for DSL/Cable and another for "File Sharing" then you can set up which "connection" you want to use and can turn off the others. Or a wireless OR wired Network.
If you also go to the left side of the Network window and select Airport and turn it OFF and you won't have to worry about it anymore. You will have to set each "connection" for each "Location".
I have all my computers hooked to a wired Gigabit switch and the Wired/Wireless router is connected to that. I have "Ethernet-DSL", "Wireless DSL", "DSL OFF", "Wireless Games", "Ethernet Games" (also for file transfers between computers) all on different networks. Takes all of 5 seconds to switch back and forth.
