WS7.0 RC3/sparc adminserv constantly pinging?

Hi there,
I've been testing the Sun Java Webserver 7.0 rc3 for some time on my Blade 100 machine (running Solaris 10 11/06) and due to network performance problems on my LAN (not related to this) I started to investigate the traffic.
To my surprise and horror I noticed that my blade server was pinging my workstation in a rather unnatural fashion. Several icmp req packets per second would appear and several rply were going out. I immediatly thought to be dealing with something much worse and started an investigation on my blade server and eventually discovered that the webservers admin server was the cause of all this.
Now, my guess is that its doing this to check if a node is accessible and still active but isn't this a bit much? Can this behaviour be influenced somewhere?

  • Adobe constantly pinging firewall after installing Dreamweaver CS5 Demo

I don't know for sure if this should be posted under Dreamweaver or just Adobe in general, but since I installed the Dreamweaver CS5 demo 2 days ago, July 15, 2010, my firewall has been filling up with icmp/ping requests from "ADOBE Systems Incorporated" (see log snippet below. Times are CST -6:00). This is happening whether I have Dreamweaver running or not. I noticed because I usually only get a daily email from my firewall, but lately I have been receiving multiple emails daily filled with blocked ping requests.
Can anyone confirm if this might be a "feature" of all their new online stuff or should I be worried? Can anyone else check their firewalls and see if it's happening to them?
    Thanx in advance,
    Mike

Dreamweaver automatically tries to connect to Adobe every time the Welcome screen is displayed. To prevent it from happening, select the "Don't show again" checkbox at the bottom left of the welcome screen. The reason it connects is to get the message that's displayed at the bottom right of the welcome screen.
The other reason your computer will be connecting to Adobe is the Adobe Updater will be trying to connect to the server to find if there are any updates to the installed programs. It normally runs once a day, but is probably retrying because your firewall won't let it through. I'm not sure if or how you can disable the updater. I find it quite useful, so have never tried to turn it off.

  • Firefox hangs while loading pages.

When loading a new page (not always in a new tab, not always an additional tab or tabs, but it seems to happen more when opening multiple tabs) the little rotating circle will either remain dark and if an attempt is made to reload the location bar changes to new tab, losing the address in the location bar, or the rotating circle will go one way, then reverse, then continue to spin. At the bottom of the page where what is being loaded in a page shows it will hit on one thing (as I'm writing this in Chrome I'm loading a folder of bookmarks I've been loading daily for years that now is a nightmare and pages are stuck at "connected to ajax.googleapis.com," "connected to hell.myfonts.net," "waiting for dt.adsafeproteted.com," "connected to log.pinterest.com," "connected to cdn.syndication.twimg.com," "waiting for api.lanistaads.com," "waiting for www.projectwonderful.com," "transferring data from v4.moatads.com," "waiting for aax.amazon-adsystem.com," "connected to aax.amazon-adsystem.com," and the other three pages are stuck trying resolve the actual URL) and then refuse to go any further. After that the page will sit, unchanging, as best as I can tell forever. I've left a page loading for several hours while working and it was still connecting to googleanalytics when I came back. It does the same in safe mode. Not a single page in the book marked folder is loading, NOT ONE. They're all sitting and spinning either with blank pages or partially loaded. I will reiterate before someone suggests I not load so many pages at once that I've been loading this particular folder full of pages for at least five years and probably longer and it did not do this until the last month.
This has been going on for a while and has made Firefox worthless. It is getting worse. I have read every similar question and none of the answers has made a bit of difference.
    I have tried safe mode.
    I have refreshed Firefox.
I have uninstalled Firefox and installed the latest version.
    I have cleaned my registry.
I have cleaned my cache (which was almost empty anyway).
I have deleted all temporary files that were not in use on my computer.
I have deleted the install folder in Programs(x86) and then reinstalled the latest version (this made everything even worse and resulted in no secured connections being available at all, including mozilla.org giving me not safe connection warnings so now Firefox is even less useful than before) and currently have no add-ons or themes installed.
I have run Spybot, Malwarebytes, Housecall, and several rootkit detectors with no luck.
This computer is less than a year old, is running Windows 8.1 and is up to date. I just installed Firefox v 37.0. When I went to look and see what the version was Firefox can't even seem to resolve its own update URL.

    Experimental Features
    ---------------------

I get an e-mail with go-comics and the ones I want to post links to I'll open in the browser as I read them in the e-mail so I regularly have a dozen tabs open (all the same site) by the time I'm through the e-mail. Every third or fourth page will hang up on something (connecting to or waiting for) sometimes not loading a single image, sometimes loading half the page, sometimes loading everything but the comic (because, hey, why put that as the first thing to load when you've got all these ads and crap to throw at your paying customers?).
At some point a couple of months ago I got some malware associated with trovisearch (I do not know how that got past security and java blocker but it did, probably some hidden crap in something from CNET) that somehow spoofed a page for Housecall and added five or six pieces of malware and adware. I cleaned for two days after and still can't find anything left on the computer even though I've been running scans constantly to try to make Firefox work right. I downloaded and ran a scan using Kaspersky during that time and then uninstalled it. That very well may be the cause of the post-refresh SSL issue.
I have Spybot and Malwarebytes scan logs from the time of the infection if that would help in any way. It doesn't look like there's a way to attach .xml files in this forum, though.
I can also run hijack this and copy and paste if that would help.
I'm currently running Windows Defender and rely on that and Noscript and adblocker plus to keep me isolated from most attacks (I don't have those add-ons re-installed yet). I also run Peerblock because they add malicious sites and known hacking sources (like Chinanet) to what they block as well as all the fake p2p stuff that's constantly pinging the computer. If I'm treading around in perilous waters I run Sandboxie.
Chrome is working as normal but Firefox feels like dial-up or worse right now and without adblocker I might as well be using IE.

I've tried just about everything including switching to just N-only on the router, setting a fixed IP address for the WUMC710, setting a fixed channel/bandwidth for the 5GHz network on the router (there's nobody else even approaching the signal strength nearby)...
So I've started monitoring http://192.168.1.1/sysinfo.cgi and I notice that my WUMC710 device's IP address keep getting these sort of messages logged, even though it's up and working:
    Feb 13 16:24:45 (none) daemon.notice devidentd[4052]: IP neighbor 192.168.1.9 [98:FC:11:AC:87:F7] removed (detected via polling)

Should that message keep getting logged when the device is there and in use? After a google search I see that there's been a firmware update to the WRT1900 router which has a noted that "Integrated a permanent fix for the devidentd bug" is mentioned there... that firmware came out in July, while the latest for the EA6300 is from May. Are these errors related to the bug, or am I just seeing an artifact that's not really an indicator of a problem?
    Thanks,
    -ech

So the link between the WUMC710 and EA6300 was now working for well over 2 days (all while constantly pinging the 710 from another host in the network... but at about the 1.5 day mark, the messages (all of them) related to the IP address of the 710 have stopped showing up at all, and in fact there was a set of messages indicating that it didn't respond to arp, and so now it's listed as "offline" in the EA6300 status page.
However, the wumc710 device was still pingable as was the device connected to the ethernet side of it (that device still shows up in the logs and "online" in the EA6300 status page. Also the sysinfo.cgi data still showed the mac address of the 710 was associated on the 5GHz channel.
But just now, while I was typing this, the WUMC710 stopped reponding...
I connected a laptop to it and its status page shows "disconnected".. so at least the device is still working. But that means that the WUMC710 just doesn't bother to attempt to reconnect... because all I had to do was to go to the wireless survey screen, select the same ssid and type the same password in again... and it connected up just fine. Ugh.
Will try moving the device somewhere with better reception, but the fact that the wumc710 doesn't (at least under some conditions) try to re-establish a connection with the router seems to be a pretty obvious bug and one that could/should be fixed with a firmware update (on the WUMC).

  • Macbook pro running 6.8 has wifi cutting out and extremely slow

My macbook Pro recently started having issues where the Airport says the wifi signal is full, yet is extremely slow(.5mbps compared to 30 that i normally get.)
It also cuts out but says it is still connected, but chrome, safari, itunes all cannot connect even to google.
    So far I have tried,
Deleteing the playlist items in system configuration
restarting the router manually and from the router control panel
shutting off my airport card and turning it back on
set a new location in network preferences
setting DNS to Google DNS and openDNS
    setting IPv4 settings to manual
    checking the router channel
    restarting my computer
setting the network utility to constantly ping
checked the preferences on the netgear router site
    turning bluetooth on and off
    setting and unsetting a firewall
    using network diagnostics
the only thing that works is to turn airport off, then on again and reconnect. even then, I can only get a few page views, sometimes only one, before it stops loading anything. my wifi connection used to be amazing, then one day it just started doing this. I get very slow speeds when I can connect, and downloads are extremely slow.

I also finger McAffee as the culprit, it's not necessary on Mac's as of 10.6.8+ Apple installed their own anti-OS X malware detector and it checks for updates like every 26 hours or so.
If you need to clean the Windows malware off their files, the free ClamXav does the job nicely and doesn't bugger up the machine as it's run as you need it.
For your other slowdown issues, I suggest you look through these tips of mine, my Snow Leopard is incredibly fast.

  • Trouble signing into webmai: getting constant redirects

Since late last night I've been having trouble logging into Verizon Webmail.
The title bar constantly "ping-pongs" between https://signin.verizon.com/sso/RememberMeServlet
and ...STIDServlet and ....VOLPortalServlet (this is in Safari but a similar thing happens in Firefox, too)
    and also on my laptom.
I'm running OS 10.6.4 on both machines.
On the advice of someone at the Apple Discussions Board I deleted all Verizon cookies on
my desktop's hard drive as well as passwords in KeyChain, and restarted Safari but the
    problem resumed.
Verizon tech support denies a problem and suggested I'd either changed a Safari
setting (wrong) or installed an Apple update (also wrong)

As of last evening I was no longer getting the redirects but requests would often hang or
    be glacially slow.
As of this morning the problem seems to have been fixed.
I wish that  in the future Verizon would:
    a) keep tech support informed, if in fact tech support was unaware of any problem
    and
    b) keep us informed
    and
    c) tech support would not take the "blame the customer" attitude. We're not all "newbies".

  • Firefox 8.0 loading MSN Homepage gives error 'problems loading page' every timebut the page eventually loads - Any solution?

Firefox 8.0 gives error message "problem loading page" when loading MSN homepage. This occurs every time.
The error is: "Firefox can't find the server at www.%3ciframe%20marginheight=%220%22%20marginwidth=%220%22%20name=%22wxbuttonframe%22%20id=%22wxbuttonframe%22%20height=%22283%22%20src=%22http.com."
    Is there a solution?

  • Iphone 5 excessive data usage

recently bought 2 iphone 5s and yesterday one of them started sending huge amounts of data.  The sent data is 6 times the amount received. My other phone is complelely opposite with regard to sending and receiving and we've never used anywhere near this much data before.  Verizon rep doubled the amount of data so we do not exceed the limit this month, but the way this phone is sending data it doesn't appear it will be enough. All apps and the OS are updated.  All applications are closed and the data usuage is piling up (which is fine at home on our wifi but I'm gong to have to turn the phone off if I leave).  I haven't seen an aswer to this problem yet, and there are lots of posts about it.

You have a rogue application or a corrupted email/exchange account constantly pinging the internet.
Restore your phone as a NEW device; set it up from scratch.

I don't know what to do at this point. I have tried to introduce a different database pool from within the application but that seems to only work in Tomcat and not OAS. Also I tried to introduce a thread to the application to constantly ping the database so the pool would remain active, but that also only works in Tomcat and not in OAS. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any solution to this ...it seems we are having the same problem ...

  • Multipath Interference

I've got an interesting one here...
I?ve got a customer whom I suspect is experiencing severe multipath interference and/or some type of EMI interference from large machinery. They are a metal machine shop with large drills, saws, and planers with overhead cranes moving back and forth to transport the metal from one location in the plant to the other. Oh and did I mention the walls were all sheet metal too? No plasma cutters or microwave type heating machines luckily...
They are running 1242 IOS access points using 12.3.8 code, using primarily the AIR-ANT3213 pillar mount antennas. They do have one area with two 1728 antennas mounted correctly. The clients are desktop PC?s using a mix of Linksys WRT54G card/antennas (not diversity) and Cisco PI21ABG cards/antennas. A passive survey was done previously to determine coverage and placement and coverage seems to be fine. In the logs I see a lot of clients dis-associating due to Max Retries Limits reached. The radio stats indicate very high numbers of CRC errors and high retries (hundreds every 5 minutes). Voice is not in use here. Ping tests show a lost packet every 20 or so tries. They are running an ERP application where if it loses enough data over time it shuts down. Email, web and simple file sharing seem to be fine.
I?ve run Air Magnet Laptop Analyzer and found higher signal to noise ratios than I would like (-50 to -60). The only thing it seems to notice is the high CRC errors and retries. The signal levels are constantly bouncing from -50?s to -60?s and are never steady. The signal distribution levels are bouncing all over as well, which from a quick look at Air Magnet?s knowledge base indicated possible RF or multipath interference. There is a high level of management traffic at the 1mbps data rate, but I suspect that is from either the script they are running to constantly ping the ERP server, or the frequent re-associations. I do not see any co-channel interference.
So far to combat this I?ve had the customer move the pillar mount antennas off of the metal I-Beams which Cisco recommends. I?ve experimented with power settings and found that I could turn it WAY down (was at 25mW) to 1mW which actually still provides plenty of coverage shockingly. Turned on Long Preamble and increased the Max Retries thresholds. Once I did this, there was some decrease in the CRC errors and retries, but I?m still not comfortable with it.
Does anyone else have any ideas to combat this? I?m considering trying a lower gain antenna, but reaching the antennas is a bit difficult without a lift. I?m even considering trying the 5ghz band as I believe it is a little less susceptible to interference. Not sure if the customer is willing to swallow that pill though.
    Thanks in advance?

    Thanks for the responses everyone.
    Here's what went down...
The customer wasn't interested in changing antennas. What I did was turn the power as far down as I could (1mW). Lucklilly the survey was excellent and coverage was not an issue after turning the power down that low. Then I also limited the client power to 2mW as much as I could. They had a mix of Cisco and Linksys client adapters so I'm not sure how many were actually limited.
I also changed the fragmentation threshold down to 1024 and the RTS down to 1024. This was a recommendation from the folks over at the CWNP boards. I could have gone lower I suppose, but I didn't want to push my luck there. I also maxed the Max Retries & RTS Retries thresholds for good measure.
After all of this, we monitored the situation for about a day. I ran random continuous pings from random machines for well over an hour and not a single ping dropped. CRC errors were still high, but retries were down. I'm guessing the CRC's are just something we're going to have to live with in this high multipath environment.
All in all, the wireless network was much more stable after these changes.
    Again, thanks for the replies.

  • Airport Express not visable with Admin utility, but pingable and...

Can be seen when I search for it in the admin utility. The Airport has started dropping constantly, and sometimes itunes doesnt see it but the device remains 100% pingable at all times.
The green light is on, and its connected fine.
Any reason why windows has issues seeing it (and then itunes fails)
    Thanks

I have this exact same problem. It's like something spontaneously just ceased to work inside the AE unit. I don't understand it.
I tried updating the firmware to 6.3 and updated Airport on the G4 to 4.2.1, but nothing has changed. If anything, the problem seems to have gotten worse (sometimes connecting -- > NEVER connecting).
All the forums I have read seem to think this problem has yet to be solved by Apple. They recommend downloading iStumbler or a utility to monitor your networks and keep them "alive" by constantly pinging with a low-level signal. That hasn't worked either.
    Need expert advice, please.

  • Airport express continually diasppears from admin utility

    Hi people
I have an apple airport express and airport airport extreme base station
both with the latest firmware patches.
The airport extreme is connected to my optus cable modem and provided internet for my partners wireless laptop and my desktop. My desktop is plugged in via ethernet to extreme base station.
I can start the admin utility and run air tunes for a few minutes then the base station disappears from the admin utility and my connection to air tunes breaks. My connection to the internet remains ok.
If my partner uses her laptop via wireless to serve up airtunes the connection is stable and the basestation does not disappear from her admin utility.
No sure what is going on here, if anything i would have thought that a direct ethernet connection should be more reliable than a wireless connection. This is a very disappointing result as i specifically went the apple kit to ensure that the airtunes express would work with my router...
Any thoughts or is it (as i read other similar posts) completely broken ??
    regards
    Mark W

  • Can't Get or Stay Online Since Last Security Update

I did a security update on my mac a few weeks ago and then went on vacation. When I came back I noticed that I was having a lot of trouble getting on or staying online. Nothing has changed with our wireless network, only the addition of the Mac security update. Half the time my Mac can't even see the network and when it does, I can't get it to stay online for long. We have two PC's in the house that are wireless and they are working fine. I'm using my netbook to post this as I can't get online with my Mac. I went to see a Mac Genius and he ran a bunch of diagnostics on my Macbook and found no problems. No one can seem to figure out why it doesn't want to connect to the internet and when it does, why it won't stay connected. We're using a Linksys router. Please help!!!

Unfortunately there are several things that can cause WiFi issues. Here is a MacFixit web site with a long list:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10331876-263.html
    And Cult of the Macintosh:
    http://www.cultofmac.com/how-to-fix-common-wifi-problems-macrx/43447
    But some of them are easy to try and check. One is to re-create some p-lists (this is listed last in the MacFixit article). Here is my notes from reading other posts on these boards;
Remove plists to reset the wireless system
Go to Macintosh HD -> Library -> Preferences -> SystemConfiguration ->
Drag following plists to your desktop (to preserve a copy)
Then delete the plists from the SystemConfiguration (admin password required)
    (below from one poster)
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
    come.apple.network.identification.plist
    com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    Networkinterfaces.plist
    (from a different post)
    preferences.plist
Also it might be a router issue so many sites suggest upgrading router firmware. The new software might have a patch that is not compatible with your router firmware. And while you were on vacation the router could have gone bad.
Another thing people have done as a work around is to constantly pinging the router to essentially keep open the connection. Not a great final solution but might keep you up and running while you try some of the fixes mentioned.
Keep pinging something to keep the connection:
Temporary workaround that works for some:
As soon as you connect to your wireless network, Open Terminal and start a ping going. Use your router IP address; but any local address will do:
    If your router has an IP address of 10.10.10.1, then open Terminal (in your Applications ---> Utilities folder) and type;
    ping 10.10.10.1 <return>
You'll see a string that looks like:
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=728 ttl=64 time=1.527 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=729 ttl=64 time=1.513 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=730 ttl=64 time=1.203 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=731 ttl=64 time=1.684 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=732 ttl=64 time=1.063 ms
Your routers adress can be found under:
    system preferences > network > airport > advanced... > TCP/IP

Yep. Its not perfect, if that's what you're looking for & if Find My Phone was constantly pinging your phone's location to iCloud, you'd be measuring your battery life in minutes & once your battery ran down, well, that's the end of that.

  • Stolen iPhone4s questions!

I got my iPhone stolen the other night and I have been tracking it on iCloud and Find my iPhone.. I have watched it go from location to location as it has been turned off and on. It is locked and in lost mode, has a contact number and a message saying where to return it. I have also reported it to the police. It is currently in offline mode but the last place it was located is a few blocks from my place surprisingly and it was there for quite awhile since 1am in the morning last night. I have Verizon and I have heard from other people etc that it makes it a little better and more secure.. is this true? I dont want to report it to Verizon just yet because I want to still be able to track it. But if they take it somewhere I don't want them to be able to activate it.  And will the theft ever be able to use it or uncrack it? if so, how?  And will I be able to see if this happens from iCloud/ FindmyiPhone ?
What should I do?  I'm hoping that wherever they go they get rejected or can't activate it and hopefully end up returning it or something. I mean who wants a useless phone ? I would even offer them money but I wouldn't even know how to do that.
    Any suggestions?

Unfortunately the phone isn't useless to whoever took it.  A couple things you can do to keep it from truely becoming "their phone" is to constantly ping it from either iCloud or another Apple device with the Find My iPhone app.  That way if the individual decides to try to take it someplace and you ping it, it will be a dead giveaway that it is not their phone and is most likely stolen.  Also, see if the police will meet you someplace near the last known location of your phone.  That way you have a better chance of getting it returned if the officers can hear the audible tone when the phone is pinged.  Unfortunately, I do not know of any service provider being able to make your phone "more secure".
Let me know if anything works and don't hesitate to leave me a message if you need to.
    Hope this helps!
