XHTML Validation and Accessibility

We've recently completed developing some Application Express systems for a customer, and they were disappointed the pages did not pass W3C XHTML validation to meet their accessibility targets.
I've had the chance to do a bit of a post-mortem and nailed some issues that were down to our templates. I've also noted some previous threads here (notably Re: Validation!!! and Re: HTML DB and Accessibility (AA-Compliance) and look forward to resolution of markup validation issues in future releases. In the meantime, here are the most frequent problems we encountered. I'd appreciate any explanations, and any suggestions on how to improve matters in the short term.
INVALID ENTITIES
The majority of the validation errors are like:
Cannot generate system identifier for general entity "p_fname"
General entity "p_fname" not defined and no default entity
Reference not terminated by REFC delimiter
Reference to external entity in attribute value
Reference to entity "p_fname" for which no system identifier could be generated
Entity was defined here
Where the App Ex engine is generating internal URLs and not escaping ampersands, that are then interpreted by the validator as forming part of an entity. This isn't disastrous, but an early fix in a future release would be welcome as it would reduce the number of errors and make it easier to spot any arising from invalid template code.
Am I right in thinking that storing CSS, images and scripts externally to App Ex would eliminate this?
STANDARD HTML BUTTONS
All "HTML Buttons" result in:
Value of attribute "type" cannot be "BUTTON"; must be one of "text", "password", "checkbox", "radio", "submit", "reset", "file", "hidden", "image", "button"
There is no attribute "onClick"
End tag for "input" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
Where the engine is generating an attribute value in uppercase and attribute names in camel-hump case instead of all lowercase. We can work round this by creating an "HTML Button" template with valid attributes and values.
ITEM LABEL
Reference to non-existent ID "P1_DATASET_CATEGORIES"
Where the label is the overall label for a checkbox item with multiple checkboxes, all of which have their own valid label. Should the engine include the checkbox item as a hidden item? Can we work round this by doing that manually, e.g. in Post Element Text?
HEADERS
Reference to non-existent ID "GV_VALUE"
Where a report has report has Headings Type "None" and hence no
s for headers attributes to refer to. Is there a workaround for this?
REPORT BREAK FORMATTING
End tag for "br" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
tags inserted by break processing within the engine are not terminated " />". This is not controllable by any template (that I am aware of) - anything that can be done?
TEXT FIELDS
This is rather puzzling, as it seems to be random: items on some pages are affected, those on others are not. Anyone have an explanation?
There is no attribute "TYPE"
There is no attribute "NAME"
There is no attribute "SIZE"
There is no attribute "MAXLENGTH"
There is no attribute "VALUE"
There is no attribute "id"
Element "INPUT" undefined
End tag for "INPUT" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
Reference to non-existent ID "P5_ENTRIES_DISPLAYED"
Where the engine is generating an element and attribute names in uppercase instead of all lowercase. From earlier threads, I'm presuming nothing can be done at present.
HYPERLINK
There is no attribute "HREF"
Element "A" undefined
As above: element and attribute names in uppercase instead of all lowercase.
TABLE HEADING/DATA ALIGNMENT
Value of attribute "align" cannot be "LEFT"; must be one of "left", "center", "right", "justify", "char"
Attribute value generated in uppercase. Any workaround?
REPORT SORT ARROW
End tag for "img" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified
Sort arrow element not terminated " />". Any workaround? (Or can this be suppressed completely/replaced?)

Hello,
Most of your issues are things we are aware of and hope to get fixed in 3.0 as they are produced from an engine specifically using htf package to render elements which we will be changing. Unfortunatly with most of those issues I see there I don't think you can do much.
I doubt the html the engines produce will pass xhtml strict in 3.0 but we will pass xhtml transitional (other than maybe urls in links) with a custom DTD that takes into account things we output in our namespace.

When I attempt to access my IRA account on line, I get a message saying that the web site requires a client certificate. The certificates listed in the drop down dialog box don't get accepted, even though one is indicated as valid and good until October 2014. I contacted the IRA account managment company and they sais it's an Apple issue. Any ideas?

Some websites require a special client certficate for access. If you don't have that certficate, you'll have to contact the site operator to find out how to get one.
Sometimes the problem is caused by a web server that is configured to request an optional client certificate. Safari treats the request as mandatory. In that case, other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome may be able to connect to the site, because they ignore the request.
The first time you were prompted for a certificate, you may have clicked through a dialog that requested access to the Apple certificate in your keychain that is used to secure the iMessage service. In that case, you may be able to regain access to the site in Safari by doing as follows.
Back up all data.
Double-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
com.apple.idms.appleid.prd
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Paste into the search field in the Keychain Access window by clicking in it and pressing the key combination command-V. An item may appear in the list of keychain items. The Name will begin with string you searched for, and the Kind will be "certificate."
Delete the item by selecting it and pressing the delete key. It will be recreated automatically the next time you launch the Messages or FaceTime application.
The next time you visit a site that prompts for an optional client certificate, cancel out of the prompt. You may have to do this several times before the server stops asking.

• UWC/CE 6.3 and Access Manager 7.1 SSO sometimes fails (seems like a bug)

PREAMBULA: I started writing this post thinking that our AM SSO setup was at fault in some step. As I was gathering data, checking the doc-links and config files and finally sniffed the servers for HTTP dialogs, I grew pretty sure there's a bug in UWC/CE, AM SDK or Web Server Policy Agent, whatever implements the AM SSO session checking.
In short, as written below, our "sunmail" server can POST a broken cookie to AM server, if the cookie originally contained a "plus" character. The "plus" is replaced by a "space", invalidating the session check. As we know, "+" is often used in URLs to "escape" the space character. Perhaps some URL cleanup routine backfired here. I have double-checked, it is not the reverse proxy on "psam" breaking things. It is "sunmail" (UWC/CE or Policy Agent, don't know for certain) supplying the broken request. On the few occasions when the AM cookie contains no "plus" characters, the SSO works like a charm (also checked by a sniffer). Whenever there is a "plus", it breaks.
Is there some known bug or workaround that matches this description?
Nevertheless, for completeness' sake I kept the description of our setup. Maybe it's at fault after all :)
We have an installation of JCS5 with the latest patches as of early July 2008. And as the subject implies, we have problems with AM SSO in UWC/CE web-interface. I have reported them before, then they seemed fixed (not occuring for several tests in a row), but as time has shown, something wrong is still there.
So I'll try to go into deeper detail now, as we've may have overlooked some nuance... Then again, as my sniffer research below shows, this may be an engine bug and these setup details are irrelevant.
Our setup is split into several Solaris 10 full-root zones hosted on several servers, some of the components are enroute to HA (perhaps we made some mistakes on this part of the way?)
So, we have the following software stack:
1) two MMR Directory Servers (DSEE 6.3 = DSEE 6.2 from JCS5 + 125278-07__DSEE_6.3__x86x64 + 125277-07__DSEE_6.3__x86_sol9 patches) working in zones on two different servers. Except for one time when a manually forced ZFS rollback corrupted one of the server instances, no problems here.
2) two zones with Directory Proxy Servers (6.3, exact versions as above) running at port 389 provide the clients with an illusion that they have a stable Directory Server, even if one of the actual servers is currently rebooting ;)
These DPS zones are hosted on two different servers as well and are primarily used by LDAP clients (JCS components) running in other zones on the same respective servers.
3) A zone with Sun Web Server 7.0U1 and Access Manager 7.1 (+ 126357-01__AM71_x86 patch) and Delegated Admin 6.4-4.01 (from JCS5 + 121582-18__COMMCLI64__x86 patch).
At the moment there is one such zone (named "cos-psam-01.domain.ru" in the logs below), but we expect(-ed) it to become two similar zones as per AM HA setup.
Zones listed in (1-3) use private IP numbers, they belong in our internal DMZ.
Zones listed in (4-5) below use public (routed) IP numbers, they belong in our external DMZ.
4) A zone with Sun Web Server 7.0U1 used primarily as a reverse-proxy server (optionally with a load-balancer libpassthrough.so plugin) successfully used for other hosted projects. One of its configurations now passes connections from an externally routed IP address published as "psam.domain.ru" to "cos-psam-01.domain.ru", per AM HA setup, so HTTP clients believe they work with an Access Manager instance. This zone has a backend interface with a private IP address to communicate with the actual AM instance.
In AM configuration (both LDAP and file-based) we have configured a site ID with the publicly known name and mentioned both names (psam and cos-psam-01) in organization's realm/dns aliases.
5) A zone with the rest of the Sun Java Communications Suite 5, as in Messaging Server 6.3 (6.3-6.03 64-bit: ci-5.0-1.03_solx86_x64__Messaging_Server_6.3-2 + patch 126480-09__MSG63__x86-64), UWC/CE 6.3 (from JCS5 + 122794-17__UWC63-4.01_core__x86), Instant Messaging 7.2 (from JCS5 + 118790-29__IM72__x86-1 + 118787-28__IM72__x86-2), Calendar Server 6.3 (from JCS5 + 121658-28__iCS63__x86). The web-components (UWC/CE, IM, /httpbind) are deployed in a Sun Web Server 7.0U1 as well.
This zone is named "sunmail.domain.ru" and has a routed IP address for direct external access to its servicess.
The AM SDK part is also patched (126357-01__AM71_x86); it points to the load-balancer name ("psam.domain.ru") as an actual AM server.

SunOS sunmail 5.10 Generic_127112-07 i86pc i386 i86pc
While setting up this server set we tried to use AM SSO as the user login method, but it works unreliably.
"Unreliably" means that while most of the time entering a correct uid and password in Access Manager login page ("http://psam.domain.ru/amserver/UI/Login") does redirect a user back to "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" along with a new cookie, and the user is redirected again to his or her mailbox, sometimes the user receives the UWC/CE login page. Entering the same uid and password here does log him in, but it breaks the whole point of SSO and only increases the end-user routine required to log in :\
We have also seen the "missing mail tab" problem - if the users point the browser to any hostname different from "sunmail.domain.ru" (i.e. www.mail.domain.ru which is equivalent in DNS), they have only the Address book, Calendar and Options tabs; no webmail. So far this is resolved by Policy Agent forcing The One name of the server.
Here's the configuration we did specifically for AM SSO:
1) in AMConfig.properties of "sunmail" and "cos-psam-01" we set up
com.iplanet.am.cookie.encode=false
am.encryption.pwd=<the same value>
all hostname-related parameters point to "psam.domain.ru"
2) in AMConfig.properties of "cos-psam-01" a number of FQDN equivalence entries are added (so it does not redirect to a server hostname unknown to visitors):
com.sun.identity.server.fqdnMap[publicname-or-ip]=psam.domain.ru
com.sun.identity.server.fqdnMap[cos-psam-01.domain.ru]=cos-psam-01.domain.ru
3) in "msg.conf" on "sunmail" (entries added via configutil):
local.webmail.sso.amcookiename = iPlanetDirectoryPro
local.webmail.sso.amnamingurl = http://psam.domain.ru:80/amserver/namingservice
local.webmail.sso.singlesignoff = yes
local.webmail.sso.uwcenabled = 1
service.http.ipsecurity = no
(perhaps some more options are required? Looking for confirmation about: local.webmail.sso.uwclogouturl local.webmail.sso.uwccontexturi local.webmail.sso.uwchome service.http.allowadminproxy )
4) Configured Web Policy Agent for Sun Web Server, so that users without an AM session are required to get one. Set up per [http://msg.wikidoc.info/index.php/AM_redirection_using_Policy_Agent], except that com.sun.am.policy.agents.config.notenforced_list points to the many names our server can go known by.
5) Updated the logout URL in /opt/SUNWuwc/webmail/main.js:

According to ngrep sniffing,
1) the browser goes to "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" without any cookies
2) receives a redirect and goes to "http://psam.domain.ru/amserver/UI/Login?gotoOnFail=http://sunmail.domain.ru:80/uwc&goto=http%3A%2F%2Fsunmail.domain.ru%3A80%2Fuwc%2Fauth"; sends no cookies either.
3) The first response from the "psam" server (as redirected from "cos-psam-01") sets a few cookies while rendering the login page:
Set-cookie: JSESSIONID=7EF8F2810D2071CA03CFEAE9972735B2; Path=/
Set-cookie: AMAuthCookie=AQIC5wM2LY4SfcwuT2ASCrsfO78nXdceEHXeH1+xTqH7C3I=@AAJTSQACMDI=#; Domain=.domain.ru; Path=/
Set-cookie: amlbcookie=02; Domain=.domain.ru; Path=/
4) The browser requests the login page resources (javascripts, images, etc) using these cookies, as in this header line:
Cookie: JSESSIONID=7EF8F2810D2071CA03CFEAE9972735B2; AMAuthCookie=AQIC5wM2LY4SfcwuT2ASCrsfO78nXdceEHXeH1+xTqH7C3I=@AAJTSQACMDI=#; amlbcookie=02
5) The browser POSTs the login request to "/amserver/UI/Login" and receives a redirection to http://sunmail.domain.ru:80/uwc/auth
Set-cookie: iPlanetDirectoryPro=AQIC5wM2LY4SfcwuT2ASCrsfO78nXdceEHXeH1+xTqH7C3I=@AAJTSQACMDI=#; Domain=.domain.ru; Path=/
Set-cookie: AMAuthCookie=LOGOUT; Domain=.domain.ru; Expires=Thu, 01-Jan-1970 00:00:10 GMT; Path=/
6) The browser requests "http://sunmail.domain.ru/uwc/auth" using the newly set cookie (looks like the old one to me though):
Cookie: amlbcookie=02; iPlanetDirectoryPro=AQIC5wM2LY4SfcwuT2ASCrsfO78nXdceEHXeH1+xTqH7C3I=@AAJTSQACMDI=#
7) The "sunmail" web-server checks the AM session validity with the same "psam.domain.ru". It sends a series of POSTs to /amserver/namingservice:

<RequestSet vers="1.0" svcid="com.iplanet.am.naming" reqid="685">

</GetNamingProfile>
</NamingRequest>
</Request>
</RequestSet>(receives a large XML list of different Access Manager configuration parameters and URLs)
...then a double-request to /amserver/sessionservice:

<RequestSet vers="1.0" svcid="Session" reqid="686">

</Request>
</RequestSet>As a result it receives an XML with a lot of user-specific information (the username, LDAP DN, preferred locale, auth module used, etc.)
!!!*** Now, the problem part ***!!!
8) And then "sunmail" POSTs a broken cookie to "psam" (note the space in mid-text, where the "plus" sign was previously).
I looked over the large XML responses to the two previous requests, whenever they mention the session cookie value, the "plus" is there.
For the most detail I can provide, I'll even paste the whole HTTP packet:

There have been a few reports of the same behaviour with other customers - specifically with the handling of the encoding of "+" characters to " ". It relates to how cookie encoding/decoding is performed (as you have already observed).
The solution for these customers was the following:
=> AM server/client side:
Ensure that com.iplanet.am.cookie.encode=false in AMConfig.properties and AMAgent.properties on all systems.
=> AM client (UWC) side:
- Set <property name="encodeCookies" value="false"/> in /var/opt/SUNWuwc/WEB-INF/sun-web.xml. This will prevent UWC from trying to urldecode the cookie it receives and therefore stops it turning the + into a space e.g.

I want to change my icloud id on my iPhone, but it won't let me now that i have upgraded. I no longer have the password and the problem is It is using an old id which the email isn't valid and the security question does not think my birthday is valid. I cannnot delete the account because "find my iphone" wants the password linked to this old account. But when i go into the find my iphone app it is using my corect Apple ID. How do i fix this?

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account. You can either go to https://expresslane.apple.com, select "More Products and Services", then "Apple ID", then on the next page select "Other Apple ID Topics", then "Lost or forgotten Apple ID password" and click "Continue"; or you can contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).

• HT5312 My rescue email address is no longer valid and I can't remember my security questions answers. How can I reset my security information

I have money in my Itunes account, but have forgotten the answers to my security questions.
The rescue email address that was linked to my account is no longer valid and I can't access it any more.
How do I re-set my security questions and rescue email so I can purchase itemsvia my iTunes account?
Help?

You will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to update your rescue email address for potential future use.

• How do I store VI References in global variables and access them later

From what I know, Labview automatically deletes VI references when they go out of use. Is there a way for me to override this so that I can access a set of preloaded references in a separate VI? Essentially I would like to open the VI's dynamically into the memory, store the references in global variables and access them at a later time. The VI's I'm referencing won't be known until runtime. I know its not the safest way to do it, but it would be the most productive on my end.
Thank you
Clay Upton

I'm not sure what you mean by "a later time", but a VI reference will remain valid as long as the VI is in memory. If you don't unload the VIs, the references will remain valid.
If you do need to unload the VIs, for whatever reason, I would suggest the following:
Create a functional global as your interface for obtaining the references.
Feed the paths to the VIs into the VI when initializing it (since you don't know which VIs in advance).
When calling the VI to obtain the references, have the VI check them first (using the Not a Number... primitive). If it sees that they're invalid, it can open a new reference and return that.
You should note that when a VI is removed from memory, the data space is used is released, so if those VIs are expected to hold data (using shift registers, etc.) this will be a problem.
The description I've given will only be usable in certain instances (and it has its intricacies), but you didn't really give any details about what you're actually trying to accomplish.
Try to take over the world!

• When I click on "Sign in to Sync" the page "about:accounts" shows error "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." How do I fix this so I can use Sync?

When I click on the three-bar icon (top right) and then on "Sign in to Sync" a new tab opens attempting to load "about:accounts" . . . the page that loads is an error . . . "Problem loading page" shows up on the tab and the page displays:
The address isn't valid
The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.
Web addresses are usually written like http://www.example.com/
Make sure that you're using forward slashes (i.e. /).
Try again
I am running Firefox 30.0 on a Dell XPS-18 and Windows 8.0.
I cannot access "about:accounts" at all. How do I fix this?

The about:accounts page is a valid page in the current Firefox release.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

• Why does Firefox warn me "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" on just about everysight that I go to including my MSN homepage

When I open firefox and go to my home page I get The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded. This also happens when I access other pages. I click ok and then it opens up but I'm ready to go back to IE

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• New video blog: Address Validation and Duplicate Check in IC

Hello Everyone,
Here is a short video discussing "Address Validation and Duplicate Check in the Interaction Center" for CRM 7.0 from Renee Wilhelm of SAP product management.
[http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/elearn?rid=/library/uuid/70e18a60-efc9-2c10-01ae-c4626f673a53]
Best regards,
John
P.S. Please share your thoughts, ideas, or concerns! Thank you.

Hi,
in the video, you say that the user (logged into the system as IC Agent), can choose to merge the BPs once identified that a duplication exists.
By the way, into SAP OSS note "1565230 - dump after merging of BPs in IC webclient" it is written that it is not supported to integrate Business partner merge functionality to IC webclient.
Here below, an extract from the Note:
Reason and Prerequisites:
It is not supported to integrate Business partner merge functionality to IC webclient. Technically after the merging of Businss partners, the buffers of business transaction will be initalized at API layer directly, instead of by Genil layer. It is not possible to synchronize the buffer to BOL layer. Once you access to the business transaction which has been initialized during the merging of Business partners, the dump will occur.
Solution:
It is required to move the functionality to the business roles for
backoffice scenario, for example, SALESPRO etc.
What do you think about? Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance and Best Regards,
Andrea

• HP 3210, OS X, can print w USB but not w WiFi. Can ping and access printers webpage.

I can connect and print on my HP 3210 directly via USB but not via the network. I can ping the printer and access its built in webpage through the network though, so it has network connection. When I try to add a network printer no printer shows up, so I manually add the printers IP address (valid and complete) and the ‘Generic PostScript Printer’ comes up as default. After I installed the printer through USB I can also access the specific 3210 drivers but it doesn't work either.
I once managed to print '%!PS-Adobe-3.0 Query userdict (\004)cvn{(\004) print flush}put', then it continued to feed out blank papers until I canceled. I've tried the IPP, LPD and HP Jetdirect socket protocols together with the universal PostScript driver and the HP 3210 driver. One of the combinations returned the above line. Besides this one exception nothing happens, the printer appears offline.
Computers: One MacBook Pro 15" from 2011 with OS X 10.7.5 and two new MacBook Pro 13" with OS X 10.8

Serial Number:
{Removed for privacy}
Firmware Version: R0046xxNx
Printer connected with ethernet cable to router, computers connected over wifi.
It has previously worked on my older MacBook Pro and on a PC I had before. It seems like an installation problem not being able to install the IP printer automatically.
Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks!

It could be that your router does not support Bonjour or it is not enabled. Go into the router settings and look for mDNS or Bonjour and make sure it is enabled.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

I guess you are trying to connect from the R3/ECC to the Portal Server.
Are these two systems in the same network? Do you have usernames (valid and fully authorized) in both systems? What is the OS on which these two systems are housed?
Please provide these details to proceed further.

• SQL Developer and Access with password issue

I have Windows 7 64bits, Developer Version 2.1.1.64 and Access 2007.
Created a MDB file added 2 tables, enabled de system tables and set a password.
I try to configure connection but it gives a "Not Valid Password" error.
I use on username: Admin
And the password I'd set.
What could be the error?
I unset the password and it works fine.

The password I had set was Database password and not user login so maybe there's no hope on this one, for now...

Hello,
I'm attempting to connect to Essbase from Visual Studio 2005 with the use of the DataServer component.
I'm using a URL;
http://<myserver>:13080/aps/APS
This URL seems to be valid if I plug it into a browser in that it returns a page listing the following information;
Hyperion Provider Services
Hyperion Provider Services - Release 9.3.1.0.0 Build 168
ESS_ES_HOME: C:\Hyperion\AnalyticProviderServices
domain file: C:\Hyperion\AnalyticProviderServices/data/domain.db
essbase.properties: C:\Hyperion\AnalyticProviderServices/bin/essbase.properties
log console enabled: false
log file enabled: true
log level: WARN
log file name: C:/Hyperion/AnalyticProviderServices/bin/apsserver.log
is trace enabled: false
However, if I try and use this same URL in the DataServer component (using the 'Sign On' task) I'm shown the following error;
'Unable to send the request. Verify the URL "http://<myserver>:13080/aps/APS" is valid and the servlet is running'
So, any suggestions are much appreciated!
Many thanks.

Hi John,
Yes, you're right. I've now installed the habnet server on the machine hosting Essbase and can access it via browser using;
http://<myserver>::22080/EssbaseObjects/Servlet
and this seems to be showing signs of life as it returns the following to the browser;

However.... when I try to connect using the DataServer I'm shown the same error message as beofre except for the change of URL. Can you remember if there were any other settings that needed to be made?
I've also noticed the line above ' EDSUrl=http://localhost:11080/eds/EssbaseEnterprise (optional) ', this says 'the page cannot be displayed' if i try to access it from the habnet machine but I'm really not sure if this is relevant or not.
Many thanks again for your time.
