Yamaha DGX-500 MIDI ... I have a bad feeling about this

Hi,
I am attempting to setup the Yamaha DGX-500 through my Macbook Pro to GarageBand 3. I have searched the forums and found that Yamaha is particularly problematic.
The Yamaha is connected through a M-Audio Midisport Uno USB-MIDI connector. I went to M-Audio's site and downloaded and installed the latest drivers (3.2.2). The Uno appears fine through the Audio Midi Setup panel. I connect up the keyboard and start to record. The first few notes are okay, but I have lots of missing notes and other notes sustain forever.
Other threads have suggested replacing the Uno with the Yamaha UX-16. I don't believe I will be able to return the Uno, so I would prefer to make it work if possible.
Any other suggestions or troubleshooting ideas I could try?
Thanks.

  • System restore...I've got a bad feeling about this...

I've downloaded 10.7.2 on my three Macs, an MB Air and a Mac Pro both at home and in the office.  The office Pro has seen some significant issues since the update.  After the update, my iPhoto was broken--it would not import photos either directly from my camera or image files on my hard drive without crashing.  I put iPhoto to the trash and and reinstalled over it but it still wouldn't work.  So I went to the app store and bought a new copy (I had a project due that needed iPhoto) and that didn't fix the problem.  This morning when I came in my time machine backup had hung and in the Finder I could not see my harddrive.  I could see it in disk utility and did a repair but that didn't make it visible in the Finder.  So in desperation, I rebooted into the Lion reinstall and selected a full restore from backup.  Selected my back up external drive (Drobo) and it started but is taking forever.  When it first began is said it would take 99 hours...  It's been at it now for almost two hours and the time remaining is down to 45 hours, but it's only restored 4.1% of the files.  My hard drive is 2TB but it was a bit less than half full.
WTH?  My big fear is that it'll take two days and then tell me I'm screwed...
Surely a 48 hour restore can't be normal, can it?

  • Got a bad feeling about this...

hi, just got my first bill after 'upgrading' to option 3 with unlimited calls -my last package had unlimited calls as well. Got my first bill - it had almost doubled. I've been incorrectly charged for for all my phonecalls!
Got through to call-centre and reported problem - !st person I spoke to hung-up, the second gave me a reference number(seem to have been put on 'weekend' calls instead of 'anytime'...). Have been told the bill will be refunded and the correct one re-issued, but not optimistic about BTs ability to sort this out...
How can a simple change of package (done online) end up such a shambles?

  • Connecting Yamaha DGX-500

I just bought an M-Audio interface and i have it attached with midi cables to my yamaha dgx-500. I have the interface on, the cables plugged in, my yamaha on and in the midi setting. The mac has no problem recognizing my interface and that there's a midi device plugged into it, but I still can't get the yamaha to work with garage band. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hey Jman & Hangtime,
Did you guys ever resolve this. I have the same problem a Roland XP10. GB sees it and interacts via my midisport just fine, but I am limited in the voices to a standard midi set; I can't get all of the voices that I can get just by playing the Roland.
Midi from Roland to midisport. Usb from midisport to MBpro. And visa versa.
By the way, this post is being done from memory; I am not in front of it right now. I'm going to try some of the tips I found in these forums when I get a chance, and make sure its not just me being dingy.
    Thanks in advance.

  • MidiSport UNO to GarageBand with Yamaha DGX-500

Ok, I'm having serious trouble getting my set up to work. I own a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz (10.6.3) with 2 GB RAM, a Yamaha DGX-500 keyboard, and MIDI Sport UNO (newest model, latest drivers). I've connected the MIDI IN cable to the MIDI OUT on the keyboard and the MIDI OUT on the cable to the MIDI IN on the keyboard (and vice versa). The Audio MIDI setup recognizes both configurations, but seems to work better when the cable IN is connected to the keyboard IN. When I launch GarageBand, it recognizes that there is one MIDI input available. However, the software instrument tracks fail to produce any sound from the keyboard on the computer. The MIDI Sport UNO's LED illuminates that USB and MIDI IN are connected, but not MIDI OUT.
I'm totally in the dark about what I could be doing wrong. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Since GB doesn't send any midi data out, the only connection you need between the keyboard and the interface is the keyboard's midi out to the interface's midi in.
When you have plugged everything in, does the little blue dot in the lower right corner of the LED window light up when you play a note?

  • The App Store tells me I have installed Lion, but About this Mac tells me I'm running 10.6.8

Have tried reaching Apple with no success.
I have been charged for the OS X but don't have it installed.  About this Mac tells me I am still running Snow Leopard and when I go into the App Store it says installed and I can't reinstall it.  I have reloaded Snow Leopard and then went to the App Store and it still told me I had Lion installed.  What is going on?  Is Apple ripping its loyal customers off?

The installer should be in your Applications Folder

  • HT1529 Where do i find the serial No on a IMac 4.1 please? I have looked on the "about this Mac" but it does not have the serial No on it!

Where do i find the serial No on a IMac 4.1 please? I have looked on the "about this Mac" but it does not have the serial No on it!

Until last July, the model identifier on every Intel Mac would tell you exact minimum and maximum expansion in terms of RAM, retail operating system, and any system specific required firmware updates, video and audio expansion capabilities, and patches for Wifi available.  The serial number is only of consequence if you wish to date a Mac down to the week.  This can help in determining system specific disks, available warranty, and exchange/repair program eligibility.  Outside of that the year and month can usually be narrowed down to a six month period with model identifier alone on all except MacPros.  So my question is, is it really that relevant for your needs?

  • How do you activate a 10.10.3 download.  I have downloaded twice (2 gig each) and have restarted as instructed.  I have also rebooted. "About this Mac' still reports 10.10.2 installed and I do not have the new photo app.

I have downloaded 1010.3 twice (2+gig each).  The update window shows the 10.10.3 update has been installed, however, 'About this Mac' shows 10.10.2 installed and I don't have the new 'photo' app installed.  Once more, the quality of Apple software approaches that of Microsoft - letting the user debug instead of delivering the quality that used to be Apple.
How do I activate the downloaded update.

There may well be a problem with the update package.  I initially tried downloading the delta update (not the combo) from the Apple Support web site, and when I opened the package file, the installer ran but terminated almost immediately.  I restarted and only got the normal reboot process, not the "Installing software" display.  After restarting, I saw some evidence that the firmware updater was cleaning up some files, but nothing else appeared to have happened except that the 1.5Gb package file and a couple small subsidiary files had been left under /Library/Updates/_ManualUpdate.
I tried running the command line softwareupdate tool to see if it would recognize the already-downloaded package file (which is something you might also want to try before downloading again just in case it works), but no such luck.  I then relented and used App Store, and that downloaded again and then performed the update successfully.
Of course, then I had to horse around with turning off all the "photos in the cloud" nonsense, but that's another story.

  • Yamaha DGX-620 MIDI data not being received by Mac

I've just spent the past five hours tearing my hair out attempting to make my DGX-620 Portable Grand 'talk' to my computer. I have a 2008 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (not the unibody model, obviously) running OS X 10.6.8.
I have recently taken the wooden stand off my DGX keyboard so as to put the keyboard on a desk instead. BEFORE I DID THIS, MIDI data was sent and received effortlessly by the DGX and the MBP respectively, via an A-to-B USB cable (A in the computer, B in the DGX). I see no reason why the removal of such materials should affect the keyboard's functionality (after all, the stand is just comprised of wood, right? No electronics to be seen).
After I came across this infuriating hiccup, I began the laborious process of uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the DGX (both version 1.3.2: http://download.yamaha.com/search/detail/?site=se.yamaha.com&language=sv&categor y_id1=16277&category_id2=16084&product_id=105576&asset_file_language=EN&asset_id =57163). The keyboard was unplugged for the whole process. I rebooted the computer and opened System Preferences - sure enough, there was the Yamaha USB/MIDI preference pane. I turned on the DGX with crossed fingers - and my efforts had been fruitless, much to my annoyance.
Anybody who can shed light on this issue (or point out a ditzy mistake I've made) will elate me and lift my spirits. Sorry, I can't really give any other rewards.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Gabriel

  • Connecting Yamaha keyboard with MIDI cable?

So, I have a Yahama YPT-320 portable keyboard and would love to start recording some music through GarageBand. I know you need a MIDI cable, and I was wondering if this one works with iMac at GarageBand? The seller says that it works with Mac and PC, but one of the reviews says that it doesn't work with Mac? Any ideas would be appreciated!!! :) Thanks.

Interesting timing...  I just received the MIDI/USB adapter you mentioned and am having problems with it.  (Mine was $5.85 including shipping on eBay.)  Do you get the same results as me?
Details: MacBook Pro 13"; OS X Lion; Garage Band '11 v6.0.4; circa-2002 Yamaha DGX-500 Portable Grand keyboard; adapter USB to Mac; adapter MIDI "OUT" connector to keyboard MIDI "OUT" connector.  Adapter red LED is on continuously.  Adapter yellow LED flutters dimly continuously (questionable...) and flashes bright whenever any keyboard key is pressed.  But as I hit all white keys from low to high, only about every 10th key is recognized by Garage Band.
I am not a MIDI expert and was starting to look into this.  My keyboard supports "GM System Level 1" and I was just reading the details of what that means.  But if you confirm it behaves like this for you, I will just go with a different adapter.

  • I have 2 blue pixels on my new iPhone 6. Is this common or do I have a bad phone?

I have a new iPhone 6 and I noticed two pixels that are blue on the screen (defective). Is this normal or do I have a bad phone?

This is not normal, of course. I'm not sure though, how many defective pixels it takes to replace a screen or a device. Suggest that you make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have it examined and they will make a determination.

  • Why does my iphone 4 turn off by itself randomly? I have read many posts on this and there seems to be no solution other than replacing it.

It turns off randomly and sometimes when I try to turn it back on, it doesn't turn on right away. Sometimes it would take multiple tries before it actually turns back on. I have read many posts regarding this and there seems to be no solution. The bad thing about this also is that I don't have a warranty either.

Because there is a hardware problem.
Apple has an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price which pays for an exchange at a discounted price off the full retail sales price, or if you qualify for upgrade pricing with your carrier you can purchase a 4S or iPhone 5 for about the same or not much more depending on storage capacity.

  • Does anyone have an example VI about how to call the animatewindow function in the user32.dll using CLN in Labview?

I want to call the WinAPI function-animatewindow in user32.dll to produce some special effect when showing or hidding windows, but i don't know how to using this Win API to achieve my purpose?
Does anyone have an example VI about this application?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You have to use the Call Library Function Node to call Windows API functions. The animatewindow function itself has some pretty simple parameters. You first need to get the window handle. There are a set of Windows API Function Utilities (32-bit) for LabVIEW that you can use. In there there is a VI (Get Window Refnum) that gets the window handle. It's a simple call to a Windows API function. You would call the animatewindow function in the same way. In this case there are 3 parameters: the window handle (returned by a FindWindow API call), a DWORD (32-bit integer) for the duration, and another DWORD for the flags.

  • I am trying to use logic pro 9 on my lion system and it continues to say I have a bad midi...when i go to check my midi drivers folders in my library its empty...does anyone know whats going on?

i am trying to use logic pro 9 on my lion system and it continues to say I have a bad midi...when i go to check my midi drivers folders in my library its empty...does anyone know whats going on?

    I
got your message about making sure to use the machine specific disk that came with my machine. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells Tiger replacement disks. I've got a couple of bids out on ebay, and will update when I have news to add to this post.
Thank you for your help, Frank!
To be clear you called the 800 number and explained what the situation was, old machine and lost the original DVD's?
Just checking because if you just called and tried to buy the DVD's they might tell you they no longer sell them but you aren't really trying to buy them your trying to replace the ones that are missing.
Ebay may work but there is a certain specificity to the DVD's required which, even if they seem right, might not work.
Good luck either way. If you get a chance when you get the DVD's I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.
