Z97-Gaming 5 Soundblaster cinema 2 Issue

Hello everyone, this is my first htpc build and I ran into a software problem and hope someone here can help.
Hardware:
Intel i7-4970k
16gb crucial 1600
Samsung 250gb
So basically I have a monitor and flat screen connected to the pc. I have two standard speakers connected to the rear audio jack when using the monitor. The flat screen is connected to an Onkyo receiver that has an hdmi coming from the motherboard pc. My issue is with Soundblaster cinema 2 only recognizing the speakers connected to the rear audio jack. I want to use the on board sound card for 5.1 audio and not the windows default HD audio. In sbc2 when choosing change default audio device I get two options - speakers(Realtek audio) & windows default. When testing SBC for audio out of the receiver not works except the windows HD audio. After doing some research before writing on this forum I tried re-installing SBC2 and Realtek driver with no change. Can someone please give me some advise on how to fix this issue.
Thank you

So..you connect the Onkyo to the mobo using HDMI cable, and what cable do you use from Onkyo to the flat screen?
If both are HDMI then I think it should be fine:
You should make sure your Onkyo is right set as HDMI mode, Motherboard on board HDMI port---->Onkyo HDMI in--->another HDMI out from Onkyo---->TV
Remember to restart the system before you can use, then you can see your TV device under Playback, configure the device then select 5.1.

  • MSI Z97 Gaming 7: Soundblaster Cinema Software, Disable Splash-Screen?

    Hi there,
is it possible to disable the splash Screen of the Soundblaster Cinema Software? Its really annoying on Windows Startup.
I've already checked the Options in the Software but didnt find a Thing to disable it.
    Thanks in advance

MSconfig is not necessary, you can just tell it not to start with windows.
Obviously avoiding the software avoids the splash screen but it's not a real solution.

  • New MSI Z97 Gaming 3 - very strange audio issues

    (sorry for the long post)
Hi, I recently bought some computer parts from Newegg and built my first gaming pc yesterday, but when everything was finished setting up I noticed a major issue with the audio. Both the headphone jack on the motherboard and the headphone jack from the front panel connector aren't working correctly.
If I plug in my headphones into the motherboard jack, the audio level is REALLY low. Like, even if I turn up the volume to 100% it sounds like it's only at 10%. I looked through the volume settings for the headphones and didn't notice anything wrong. Then I tried updating my drivers with the cd and ran the live update utility, but nothing changed. Also, the audio will sometimes make distorted/static sounds when the music itself is loud, yet I can still barely hear the music.
The front panel jack is even worse! The sound is much more distorted/static-y when I plug in my headphones there.
I know it's not my headphones fault because they work fine on my laptop. Even if I plug in a different pair, I still get the same low volume and static.
I know the front panel issue is not because of the case. If I put the motherboard in an old HP case and plug in my headphones into the front panel on this case, same issue. (I know the old case normally works fine).
I even tried running a linux live usb in case it was something wrong with Windows. It still had the same issues.
    My specs:
    MSI Z97 Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150
    Intel Core i5-4590
    MSI GeForce GTX 970
    Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB
    WD Blue 1TB
    XFX XTR Series 550W
    Windows 8.1 Pro
I would really appreciate some help. It seems like I've tried everything.

    Hi
What is the BIOS version your board currently has?
Try without graphics card and with single RAM stick.
You could also try out of the case on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box, and see if it works then. Might be something in either cases shortening the board.

  • Z87 Gaming Boards - Questions regarding fan control / soundblaster cinema...

    Hello everyone,
I'm thinking about switching to MSI Z87-G45 Gaming (currently using Asus Gene-Z V), however there are three issues that I've been unable to find information on:
    1) Fan Control
The new msi boards seem to have new bios fan control which enables you to set a low temperature and corresponding fan speed, aswell as high temperature which marks the temp when the fan will reach 100% speed. However I've read that this is only available for the CPU_FAN1 header and not CASE_FANX or even CPU_FAN2 (if available). Is that true?
    2)Audio Solution
The middle boards seem to feature Realtek 1150 in combination with the software solution Soundblaster Cinema (Xpower as X-Fi MB3). Now the soundblaster cinema really confuses me, is it better than the X-FI MB2 (thats the software solution of the asus Z77 rog boards)? Does it have the "soundblaster console" in addition to thx true studio pro or is it just the thx utility etc.?
    3) VGA Boost in combination with msi graphics cards
What exactly does this do? It says that it automatically increases the power target, but is that useful if you also use msi afterburner?
    Thanks.

Thanks for info, I ordered a G45-Gaming today and let's see how it works out.

Can you control 3 pin fans with this board?
    BTW first post here :-)
I can update you on this issue once I get everyone up and running, however generally msi had the following setup:
CPU_FAN headers -> pwm control (and sometimes voltage too)
CASE_FAN headers -> voltage control only (= 3 PIN fan)
The "old" case fan control sucked though since you could only set a range from 60% to 100% on the fans whereas for cpu fans you could set 0 to 100%. Also the minimum temperatur for case fans was 40° which in makes case (case temp never rose above 35°) made case fan control pretty much useless.

  • Microphone issue with MSI Z97 GAMING 5

    Hi there!.
I have just set up my new computer and i have problems with my microphone. My mainboard is a "MSI Z97 GAMING 5" and my box: NOX Coolbay SX.
I have installed the drivers from disk and tryed also searching drivers on the web of MSI. I can hear with my speakers with no problems, same with my headset. But there is no way to use my microphone. I put it in the front panel, then i checked the control panel - sound and Windows tell me that the microphone is connected, but dont work. if i put it in the back panel, the realtek HD administrator tell me that something is connected in the microphone slot but WIndows dont detect it.
in the BIOS, the HD Audio is ENABLED. I dont have any idea about what to do now. I have search on this forum but i havent seen this same issue. Can you help me?

  • Z97 Gaming 7 memory issue.

    MSI Z97 Gaming 7
    MSI GTX 970 Gaming
    Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 CL9 16GB Dual Kit (XMP 1866mhz 1.500v 9.10.9.27)
Intell Pentium G3258 (Just sold my 4690k, and waiting for my new 4790k)
    Corsair CX750M
    Samsung 850EVO 500GB SSD
    Corsair H100i Cooling.
Good airflow trough case, low temps on all components.
I have a issue with Dimm 2 & 4 when using XMP on my memory.
While using Dimm 2 & 4 my memory have alot of problems. Gets error in most torture test's (Intell burn in, OCCT Linpack, Prime95), random crashes, and so on. Also have got alot of errors in Memtest86+. It is quite random, sometimes it can work for several hours before it gives any error, other times it does that instant.
This does not happend while the memory is used without "overclock" 1333mhz.
But if I use Dimm 1 & 3, i have no issues. I have stable memory, no error's in Memtest86+, Prime95, Intell BurnTest and OCCT Linpack can work for hours, no random crashes in windows and so on.
The motherboard have got the latest FW, i have cleared CMOS, and tried about anything. I can also mention that the memory get slightly better "score" in a benchmark program when i tested it in Dimm1&3 rather than 2&4. Have tested several times, under same temps, and circumstances (~2890-2940 in 2&4, and ~2960-3040 in 1&3)

Have tried re-seating the CPU, but that did not make any difference. Spent a long time looking over all the pins in the socket, and everything lines up just perfect.
Found out that if i use only one ram there is no problem using XMP. But as long as i have Dual, XMP is useless. It will boot windows, but every kind of burn and ram test will get error allmost instant.
I also get errors using slot 1 & 3 as i have tested further. So by now, only thing not making problems with XMP is a single Memory stick.
Still, no problems or errors while memory is at 1333mhz and Dual. No difference if it is in 1&3 or 2&4.

  • Z97 Gaming 7 usb issue

Hi, I got an MSI Z97 Gaming 7 MB brand new and when I plug in an external HDD It works perfectly but when I plug a usb flash drive loads its capacity right in MyComputer view and when I try to open it only shows a blank window and disappear the capacity in MyComputer view only shows its name and its data type ntfs. This happens with every flash drive that isn't usb 3.0. Can someone help me.
    Thanks in advance

I tried many external HDDs(Western Digital 500Gb usb 3.0, Samsung 500Gb usb 2.0, Toshiba 250 Gb usb 2.0) also tried many flash drives (kingston 32 Gb usb 2.0, Samsung 8Gb usb 2.0, SanDisk 8Gb usb 2.0) I used all the usb ports (front panel and back panel) I installed all the drivers from the MB CD except for one that didn't install and show me and error message that said that the driver dindn't work for windows 7 (my OS).

  • Z97 Gaming 3 chipset driver issue. Any ideas?

    Hey peeps!:)
I got the Z97 Gaming 3 mobo. Installed every driver from MSI's website.
But when I look up at the device manager the system devices... the:
    -Intel(R) Z97 Chipset LPC Controller - 8CC4
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 8C90
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 8C94
    - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SMBus Host Controller - 8CA2
    - Intel(R) 4th Gen Core processor DRAM Controller - 0C00
Are still uses the Microsoft version driver from the date 2006.06.21, driver verion : 6.3.9600.17031
I installed the chipset several times, restarted the PC. No help at all. Tried to manually install the
driver, and browse the driver from hard drive. When it finishes, its says:
"The best driver for your device is already installed"
Anyone with the same problem? Any ideas guys?:S

its happen to everyone who own z97 or any 9 series chipset. after installing "latest chipset driver" either downloaded from msi or from intel website, device manager still shows that drivers is taken from microsoft and dated 2006.
until intel fixed their crap drivers, nothing that we can do.

  • Weird USB & overclocking issues with Z97 Gaming 7 board

I just had to replace my trusty Z77-G45 board with a new Z97 Gaming 7. The board itself looks fine so far but some things just don't work as I'd expect them to.
    1. USB -> as soon as I connect a USB stick, Windows will drop me a blue screen. This only happens with sticks! Memory cards, external hard drives and so on are fine. It doesn't matter whether I use the front or back ports, problem remains the same.
I even tried to re-set the bios USB settings (they were enabled by default), but even disabling them doesn't do any good.
Yes, current Intel and ASMedia drivers have been installed prior to this.
    2. Overclocking. I can't change several values in the bios. Values in brackets can be changed, as usual, but many others remain to be "fixed". Starting with the "optimized defaults", could there be anything that blocks these settings?
Bios is current, version 1.8, and CMOS was cleared completely (jumper set, battery & cord removed) after flashing.

    Yes, well partly at least:
    - found my USB ports to work after I enabled all the options there were in bios (that's a start!)
    - found USB sticks to work normally after uninstalling the USB port drivers (ASMedia)
So far, so good at least.
Then I remembered my short "voyage" with a Z87 board. Simply entering numbers seems to work. I like the idea as it keeps total newbies away, but I hate it for not seeing any kind of range.
Especially now, as the platform is totally new to me, and even the default values show up in bright red when I enter them manually. No sort of documentation to be found in the manual, so I hope I'll stumble across something like a "MSI-specific" OC tutorial (most of them seem to concentrate on Asus and Asrock, as usual).
Thanks for trying to help though I couldn't find a button to delete the topic so I thought locking it would be a good alternative.
PS: I'm on Win 8.1 now, which updated my previous Win 8 installation, and it's running fine now. Using things like "show hidden devices" & uninstalling old drivers has helped me to keep my installations for quite some time normally. Often across various platforms even (used to be far more years ago as I don't upgrade as much anymore).

  • Z97 Gaming 3 board SBC2 problems

I recently bought a Z97 Gaming 3 Board and installed all the drivers with the CD and live update 6.
Whenever i open Sound Blaster cinema 2 it says that theres no audio device available.
I've tried the following thing a couple of time wich i found on this forum.
i've uninstalled the realtek Audio program, SBC2 and deleted all the audio devices in Device manager.
reinstalled the Realtek audio (from website and antoehr time from the update tool again) After that reinstalled SBC2 (also from website and update tool) and i still get the same message.
HD sound is enabled in the BIOS
I hope someone knows a way to get my SBC2 working, because it improves sound.
Im using a 5.1 Headset( connected the Sound optimised USB, and a 2.1 audio set connected to the 3.5 jacket on the back

SB2, or any other Realtek/Creative offering made to enhance the analog audio subset isn't going to recognize a USB headset and work with it. You would need to be using a normal analog headset for SB2 to "see" it and use it's functionality. USB is separate from your regular motherboard analog audio source. For instance I have a Z87 G43M that has the Creative SoundBlaster Cinema. It's not going to work with any USB headset only a regular 3.5mm connector headset.

  • Z97 GAMING 9 AC - PCIE no longer detecting

    Hi,
So I recently purchased a new system including the MSI Z97 GAMING 9 AC motherboard and MSI R9 280X GAMING G3 graphics card. After building the system I initially had problems with the graphics card not being detected. After some research I updated the bios to 1.4 and used the onboard graphics card to install windows 8.1, drivers etc. After windows, drivers etc were installed the graphics card still would not detect until I went into the bios and changed the PCIE to 2.0 (instead of auto). This then used the 280x instead of onboard and allowed me to install the graphics card drivers. I switched the PCIE to 3.0 after it was working.
Initially everything was working but the next morning I had the same issue again: only the onboard graphics card was being used. I switched back to PCIE 2.0 and it worked again. Until the next morning: the 280x is no longer being detected at all in any PCIE slots or in PCIE auto, 2.0 or 3.0. I have ruled out a graphics card issue as the 280x works in other pcs. I have tried another graphics card in this system and it does not seem to work either. In bios it just always says that the PCIE slots are 'empty'.
So I have tried the following:
    1. Cleared CMOS.
    2. Updated BIOS.
    3. Updated Chipset, drivers etc.
    4. Tested the Graphics Card in other computers.
    5. Used a different graphics card in this system.
    6. Tried PCIE 2.0, 3.0 and auto.
    7. Completely reformated and started from scratch.
Any suggestions as to why the PCIE slots seem to have stopped detecting?

    MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3GB

Was this issue ever solved as im seeing the same issue.
When I first booted the machine all was well however when I came to reboot my machine for the first time it no longer sees I have a GPU and so switched to the Intel onboard 4600.
At first I assumed the GPU had come lose or some BIOS setting needed changing. BIOS is set to use PEG (PCI-E Graphics card device) so i reseated the card and rebooted. This didn't work.
I reset the BIOS CMOS and that fixed the issue, my machine booted using the graphics card again however as soon I rebooted windows again it lost the card switching back to the onboard.
According to the BIOS the PCI-E slot is empty. I swapped the card out for an older ATI 7870 but had the same problem. PCI-E slot is empty unless I clear the CMOS (I made no changes in the BIOS).
At this point it sounds like some kind of software issue I have updated my BIOS to the latest version (1.5) but that hasn't fixed the issue. Whenever I shutdown or restart it will lose sight of my card unless I clear the CMOS or power down at the wall.

However if you need BIOS update prior to have some RAM or GPU working fine (or other stuff), then maybe consider updating to 1.6 and then to 1.9 and finally to 1.B (1.11). I suggest using MFlash (files can be downloaded on MSI's product site, instructions should be included). For Forum Flash tool you need proper files provided (usually) by Svet or Flobelix.
Before attempting to flash, make sure your system is stable!
I downloaded BIOS 1,5 and 1,6 and in both cases i have same issue it stucks on 100% on M-Flash, after this I can normaly shut down pc and it work but witch 1.4 BIOS. I just want know whyi can;t
    updtate.

  • New Z97 Gaming AC board and MSI gtx780

    All,
Been banging my head against the wall all night on this. Hopefully its something easy. Got my new rig assembled:
    I5 4670k
    MSI Z97-Gaming 9 AC LGA 1150 Intel Z97
    MSI Gaming N780 TF 3GD5/OC GeForce GTX 780 3GB
Have a M.2 intel SSD installed
Windows 8.1 64 installed no issues
For the life of me, I can not get the motherboard to detect the 780, I updated to the latest bios using the USB flash utility, no issues. Completed successfully.
Using the Board viewer it shows nothing in the PCIE slot, I have also tried SLOT 2 still no luck.
The MB still does not show anything inserted into the slot.
    Any suggestions would greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance

Well, wish I had good news, but not so much. With everything setup on a test bench the board wont even post with a card plugged into the PCIE slot. Remove the card post, and into the bios every time. Tried clearing CMOS, all 3 PCIE slots just a no go.
RMA is issued and it will be going back  tomorrow.
*Fingers crossed on the new board*
Thanks for all the suggestions, will let you know what happens when the new board arrives.
    Cheers

  • MSI GTX980 Gaming sometimes not recognized by MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC

I have been experiencing a very odd problem with my new hardware.
    Hardware
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4790
    CPU-cooler: Scythe Mugen 4
    RAM: G.Skill RipjawsZ F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH
Videocard: MSI GeForce GTX 980 4GB GAMING 4G
    PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold
    SSD: Crucial M550 2,5" 1TB
    Monitor#1: LG 34UM95-P
    Monitor #2: Eizo Foris FG2421
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    Issue description
The thing is that with 2 monitors connected the videocard is not recognized on a cold boot, but boots perfectly most of the time after a restart. In some cases a restart doesn't do the trick. I have even seen a couple of times that the monitor shows that windows starts and then the monitor loses the signal from the videocard before I can see the desktop (rare). With just 1 monitor attached the videocard is recognized. Als the IGP works fine, it's just the videocard that doesn't seem to be recognized when 2 monitors are connected (all combinations of DP, HDMI and DVI). When the computer has booted after one or more restarts and the videocard is recognized the computer works flawlessly, no problems whatever I do with it (desktop work, stressing hardware, playing games, etc.). Not a single sign of instability.
It's just the cold boot and sometimes the soft boot or restart that causes the videocard to not being recognized with 2 monitors connected.
What makes it really weird to me is that when the computer goes into sleep mode I can wake it up normally within say 10 minutes. But if I wait for let's say an hour the videocard is not transmitting a signal through the videocard.
When IGP is enabled the computer boots and windows loads normally (I hear the sound of the Windows login), although the monitors stay black when connected to the videocard. Then switching the connectors from the videocard to the motherboard shows me a normal Windows login screen, but the videocard is not visible in the device list. When the IGP is disabled to bootup sequence just hangs until a restart works and the computer boots normally with the videocard getting recognized and working properly.
    Click sounds
I noticed the motherboard makes 4 click sounds when booting, like relays flipping. I think it has to to with distributing power to al the components, since it looks like components respond to the click by turning led lights on. But I have to say I've never come across a motherboard before that makes click sounds. Is this normal?
    Tried fixes
    - Replaced the RAM with 100% working RAM from my other computer (Corsair Vengeance LP CML8GX3M2A1600C9) -> problem persists
    - Disabed XMP -> problem persists
    - Replaced the PSU with another one (Cooler Master V550 Semi-Modular) -> problem persists
    - Reinstalled the videocard physically -> problem persists
    - Tried several combinations of connecting the 2 monitors to the videocard (all DP ports, HDMI and DVI) -> problem persists
    - Replaced the videocard with a MSI GTX970 Gaming (connected with 1xDP and 1xHDMI) -> problem persists
    Conclusions so far
The cause can be found in the videocard or motherboard (probably BIOS issue).
Who can shed some light on this issue?

Try all PCIE slots no luck? Does the black screen always happen on one certain monitor or both?
I tried both the first and the second PCIe slot. No difference except for the fact that in the second slot the card only works at x8 bandwidth.

BTW - Did anybody try to remove the wifi module from the board and then test?
I didn't install the wifi module in the first place.
    UPDATE
I returned the motherboard to the webshop I bought it from and sent my cpu, ram, psu and videocard (GTX980) with it so they could test it. They found out that the videocard is the problem. So now I have to send the videocard to the webshop it bought that from. However, I am suspecting that it's just a VBIOS problem and not some fault in the hardware itself. On the other hand, it would be very strange that MSI would release a videocard that cannot work with one of their own top motherboards, wouldn't it?

  • MS-7926 (Z97 GAMING 9 AC) BSOD + Memory Problems

    Hello All,
i have some trouble with my new system.
    - MS-7926 Rev 1.0 (MSI Z97 GAMING 9 AC) with BIOS/UEFI v1.4 (but same with v1.3)
    - Intel i7-4790K (with Prolimatech Armageddon)
    - 16GB (4x 4GB) Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 1866
    - Gigabyte GTX770 Windforce 3 4GB (working stable for several months in my old system)
    - Windows 7 x64 SP1
After completion occured some unnormal BSOD with unspecific Error Codes even in Idle-Desktop, e.g.. 0A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), 1E (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED), and some others. I reinstalled Windows and drivers again but problem stayed.
Then i used MemTest86+ v5.01. While 4 passes only 1 time an error happened. While Test #7 at 0.0 MB (seems DIMM1). I exchanged DIMM1 with 4 and tested further. Again 1 error in 3 passes. This time at 0.8 MB (again DIMM1). The former DIMM1 now at DIMM4 produced no errror.
I exchanged the board. BSOD are now less often but still there. Again MemTest finds the same strange error only in DIMM1, equally which of the 4 same modules sits in there.
I've found some reports about problems with Crucial Ballistix and MSI Boards and now i wonder if someone has running such combination without problems?
Any other thoughts to solve it?

That is most likely the issue. That is called mixing which is NOT recommended, especially if all of these were separately sold sticks.
Even mixing of 2 kits of 2x4 can be an issue.
If you are able to borrow MATCHED 4x4 set from a friend/colleague from work, then do it so you can test how it works.
As these are Crucials, I would contact them and ask if they could replace 4 separate modules for 1 matched kit. At least Corsair does similar, so hopefully Crucial would do it too.
