ZFS adding device to a pool

Hello,
my raidz pool reuters consists of four 73G devices.
Is it valid to add two larger 146G disks to this pool?
Will the new size be 340G ?
at the moment -
! root@itchy:/ # zpool list
NAME      SIZE  ALLOC   FREE    CAP  HEALTH  ALTROOT
reuters   272G  1.50M   272G     0%  ONLINE  -
rpool      68G  8.90G  59.1G    13%  ONLINE  -
! root@itchy:/ # zfs list
NAME                            USED  AVAIL  REFER  MOUNTPOINT
reuters                        1.04M   200G   586K  /reutersI also wonder about the difference.
zpool shows FREE: 272G, and zfs shows AVAIL: 200G

Hi,
You are correct that cache devices are not supported on files. The lofi driver make a file available as a block device so ZFS thinks this is a device.
Neither a file nor a lofi device would perform well as a secondary cache device. A locally attached whole disk should be considered for a best secondary cache performance of a read workload.
Thanks, Cindy

  • Error when adding second server to pool

I've setup a system completely with OV Manager and it worked quite well with one server. Then I installed a second server with OVS and added it to my Pool.
But no VM can be started on this server because the cfg and disk files are only on the first server. So I think there have to be some shared mounts, but I found nothing in the docs. Is there a description somewhere?

servers in the same pool must have same view on storages, i.e. /OVS and /OVS/<uuid>(file system mounted throu /usr/lib/ovs/ovs-makerepos) must be shared.
for /OVS you must manully mount it on each of the servers,
for /OVS/<uuid>, ovs-makerepos must run on each servers, which will mount the shared storage.

  • LMS 3.2 Adding Devices Manually

Can anyone tell me if I need a seed devices to add devices manually or can I just bypass this portion of the setup since I'm NOT going to be discovering anything with Ciscoworks.(My envoronment is to complex to perform and discovering)  Or do I need a seed device anyhow for functionality of Ciscoworks and other processes?
Please advaise & thank you in advance,
    Erick

If you are adding devices manually, there is no need for a seed device. The whole purpose of seed devices is to use it as staging for discovering neighboring devices.
There is a great document written on the CSDiscovery process in LMS by Joe.

  • CiscoWorks: Adding device in CS but it's in pending devices in RME.

    Hi,
I have fresh installed the LMS 3.2.1 without any errors. Then I am adding device in CS, give it correct credentials. Its appears in RME automatically, but it always remain in Pending devices in RME.
I have run a job in RME to check the devices credentials and it's appearing that credentials for snmp are wrong but ssh/ telnet appears as "did not try". Although I have added the correct credentials in CS for device, but it appearing as wrong in RME.
Also when I add device in CS, it's not automatically picking it's device type, until in CS I define its device type manually.
Please advise a solution for thiss problem.
    Thanks

This usually indicates that SNMP contact to the devices fails
I use the CLI tools like \CSCOpx\objects\jt\bin\snmpwalk.exe to check this.

  • Adding devices in Wireless toolkit

    Hi,
I'd like to know how to add my Sony Ericsson p800 to the device list of my wireless toolkit. I presume I'm ok with using the default color device put have seen in some ericsson java developers guide that it can be done. Just don't know how.
    Cheers for any help

With reference to original question. It is not very clear to me from the question by what you mean by adding a device. As far as I read, the concept of adding devices to W2K is to change the display properties, font properties, etc. This can be done using the following way.
Assume your installation of w2k is at D:\WTK20
    1. Go to D:\WTK20\wtklib\devices directory.
    2. Create a new directory with your device name.
    3. Copy DefaultColorPhone (say MyNewDevice)
    4. Copy the DefaultColorPhone.properties file from DefaultColorPhone directory to your new directory and rename it to MyNewDevice.properties (This is to simplify things. Otherwise you can choose to create a totally fresh file).
    5. Go through the properties and try to play with it by changing the values and openng your midlets in this new device. This way I could create a emulator that supports Indian language.
Hope this gives some pointers on how to do it. But not sure whether it answers your question. All the best.

  • ZFS - Can't make raidz pool available. Please Help

    Hi All,
Several months ago I created a raidz pool on a 6 disk external sun array. It was working fine until the other day when I lost a drive. I took out the old drive, and put in the new drive, and am unable to bring the pool back up. It wont let me issue a zpool replace, or an online, or anything. Here is hopefully all the info you need to see what's going on: (If you need more info, let me know)
Piece of dmesg from after the reboot.

    Steve

Sadly, I never received an answer on this forum, So I opened a ticket with Sun, and they got right back to me. For anyone following this thread, I'll pass along what they told me.
Basically, I THOUGHT I had created a raidz pool, apparently I did not, and only created a RAID0 pool. so with the one disk gone, there was no parity disk to re-build the array, so it remained faulted, no way to fix it, only solution is to destroy the pool and start again. I really thought I had created a raidz, but now that I have created a raidz pool, I can see the difference in the zpool status command.
    Before: (MUST have been RAID0)
    NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
    array UNAVAIL 0 0 0 insufficient replicas
    c0t9d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t10d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t11d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t12d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t13d0 UNAVAIL 0 0 0 cannot open
    c0t14d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
After creating a REAL raidz pool:
    NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
    array ONLINE 0 0 0
    raidz ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t9d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t10d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t11d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t12d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t13d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    c0t14d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
    Note the added raidz line.
I asked the tech support guy if it was possible that I HAD created a raidz, but due to the disk loss and reboots it was a bug that was only showing it as a RAID0, and he said there are no reported cases of such an incident, and he really didn't think so. So, I guess I just messed up when I created it in the first place, and since I didn't know what a raidz pool would look like, I had no way of knowing I hadn't created one (Yes, I know I could have added up the disk space and realized no disk was being used for parity, but I didn't)
So moral here is to make sure you created what you thought you had created, and then it will do what you expect.

  • Need help adding device to Canon ELPH 320 HS

I just bought a Canon ELPH 320 HS. I am having trouble adding my laptop as a device. I have Windows 8, and I downloaded what I thought was the windows 8 compatible version of Canon Picture Window. All of the settings in my control panel seem to be correct as far as media sharing, etc.
Here are the steps I've been taking. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
    I touch the internet icon
    Then the computer icon
    Click Add a device
Our wireless connection shows up, so I select that, I enter our network password and
then my laptop shows up and I select that.
And at this point it says connected to Kelly's Laptop, and has that spinning circle. It takes forever to connect. And then I get a communication error/connection failed error.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong! Thanks!! The wifi was one of the main reasons why I bought this camera. It will be a huge disappointment if it doesn't work.

    Hi kelly1010!
The instructions for setting this up also mention needing to make some changes to the Windows Firewall settings.  Certain ICMP Inbound Echo Requests and UPnP services must be enabled.  You mentioned you have been through the necessary Control Panel options already.  Did you also enable these in the Windows Firewall settings?

  • Adding Device support/definitions in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2

    Hi All
I am having some issues adding updated definitions for Cisco C3750X-48PS switches.
We have ciscoworks LMS 3.2 and I need to update the definition/device support for these switches. We are conducting a network refresh and are having some issues with ciscoworks polling these devices correctly.
I have looked through the various user guides and searched on google with not much luck as to how to actually do this, the links I have found breifly go into it, but not indepth, and the cisco links I have found, of course have redirects to new pages which bear to resemblance to what is in the original document.  Is there a clear guide out there on how to update the switch definiton in ciscoworks? So I can i can try and do this correctly?
I am new in my current role and I want to ensure I am doing this correctly. Apologies if this has been asked before.
    thanks

First thing to check is the supported device table for LSM3.2. According to it, the 3750X-48P-S is supported pretty much across the board by the LMS tools.
So you then need to just make sure you update the RME, CM, DFM and CiscoView device packages to integrate the updates into your server. While you can manually download and install the various packages, this task is more easily accomplished via the application GUI itself.
In LMS 3.2, updates can be done via the Common Services Software Center. The User Guide (here) tells how to use that area in great details. I usually just select "everything" for updating so as to be fully updated for whatever gets installed (as opposed to trying to pick and choose the minimal set of packages).

  • Adding device profile

    Hi all,
    I need help.
I have PS 6 on my PC and my Surface Pro 3. On my PC my Epson Stylus Pro 4880 printer's paper profiles are all available when i want to soft proof before printing. On my SP3 the 4880  profiles are not available. I have the printer's software installed on both computers and the are on the same net work. The PC is directly connected to the 4880 and the SP3 is connected wireless.  How do get the 4880  printer's paper profiles on my SP3? Thanks in advance.

Profile are install into your OS.  I have and older Epson a 4800.  When I added it to my Surface pro 3 as a remote printer the Epson 4800 device diver and profiles were installed into the Surface Pro 3 Windows 8.1 OS.   I do not Photoshop 6 installed on the Surface Pro 3.  PS6 is from 2000-2001 I do not know how well a Photoshop the old would run on windows 8.1.  I do have Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 the Epson Profiles are available for soft proof as well as for printing in it.  Adobe 2x UI did not fit on screen so I used the registry update and external Photoshop manifest file to use windows display scaling rather the Adobe scaling. Adobe scaled the 2160x1440 display to 1080x720 which does not meet Photoshop requirements. Microsoft default scaling for the surface pro 3 is 150% so it scales the display to 1440x960 which meets Photoshop requirements. Without scaling Photoshop UI is hard to use even with a mouse.

  • ZFS boot device - UFS external storage - Solaris volume manger

    Hi All,
If a system is running ZFS boot can one use Solaris Volume Manager on external UFS storage devices? If so, where do you store the metadb?

Should work, even though you need to have a slice somewhere where you can store the metadb's.
Perhaps you can store them on the external storage? Unless they are frequently removed.

  • Task completed -- Adding device to CSM

    Hi Everyone,
i was able to add the asa to csm 4.3 by  add device from network.
    ASA  is in production
After  https connection was successfull it asked  me to create ticket for that step
i created ticket need to know why this ticket creation is necessary?
also after that i started to discover the device and it added the device with  warnings.
And below is tab that shows
    generate report
Need to know should i clickon generate report?
Last small  window i have is task completed.
It says for security contexts to appear  in device selector you must submit the current activity.
Do you want to submit the current activity  now.
it has option yes  or no
    Should i click on yes?
Need to know if i do all the steps above will it cause any config change on ASA?
    Thanks

Ticketing is used primarily in multi-user environments to allow different users to keep track of one another's work. It can also optionally interface with an external ticket system like Remedy or Service Now.
For instance, if one user has started work on an ASA configuration and plans to implement it at a later time, the ticket will show subsequent users that the configuration is, in effect, "checked out".
For single user or very small shops, ticketing (and workflow) is not commonly required.

  • Adding devices automatically or manually

    Hi,
I'll start adding the devices to MARS, but am confused which method to use, shall i make it Automatically, so MARS will discover the network? or add the devices manually one by one?
As i heared, if i added them automatically, the toplogy after discovering the network will not be same as adding them manually, manually i'll have a fully cleared, detaild and connected topology graph in MARS which is not there if used the auto discovery method.
Kindly correct me if i'm wrong, and advice how to add the devices and what is the different between the two methods?
    Regards
    Rami

    Hi Rami,
Automatic discovery of devices in MARS cannot discover all devices.  Your topology will not be correct just by automatic discovery because automatic discovery cannot discover layer 2 devices.  Also, automatic discovery only works by SNMP community strings.  With automatic discovery, it will not fill in other access information that might be needed for mitigation purposes.  So, it isn't really a question of automatic or manual, you will probably want to use both.  There is an excellent online document explaining the whole process which includes doing both automatic and manual discovery.  It will also discuss seed files which can be used to import devices through a .csv file.
    Here is the link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/security_management/cs-mars/6.0/device/configuration/guide/chDvcOver.html
    I hope this helps,
