Generate SAP Out-of-the-box roles?

As a general rule of thumb I know we usually take the SAP provided roles and copy them so we can add, change and delete authorizations out of them before we assign the roles.
We also have Solution Manager and XI that seem to use the SAP roles out of the box that we don't need to manage. At least for now since we don't have a good idea on security for these 2 products.
Does anyone use the SAP standard roles and generate them and assign them to users? Is it bad to use for XI and SM since they are more of a system level roles instead of user roles like Accountant?

• SAP LSO:  What is the suspend data limit on the LSO Repository out of the box?

What is the suspend data limit on the LSO Repository out of the box?  What is this value set to by default in the SAP LSO?
Thanks in advance!

This laptop is equipped with SATA I, which is 150Gbit/s. You wont reach the maximum speed of your SSD but it will be much faster then your current old school spinner drive. An SSD will always outperform a normal HDD. Plus you should see a bump in battery life as well.
Hope this helps!

• Extend out-of-the-box script for Publishing Vendor to ERP.

Hello Experts,
We are using ESO 5.1 SP9.
I would like to now how it's possible to modify the out-of-the-box script that publishes the vendor to ERP (this script actually generates an XML file). Current client wants to add more fields that are required in their SAP backend system.
I've already created the extension fields so this information can be captured by the vendor in ESO system. Now I need the information found on these fields to move to the XML file so PI module can process them to ERP.
Only thing I found was through Setup-> System Setup -> Integration -> Script Definition -> Publish Supplier.
Script is as follows:
import com.frictionless.sap.integration.exporter.FileExporter;
FileExporter exporter = new FileExporter(doc);
exporter.process();
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello Guys,
I was trying to replicate this in version 7.0 for master agreement's extensions.
I've enabled the extensions in the Integrated Document Configuration for the class
contracts.Contract.
Is there anything else that I should set/configure to get this working? I'm looking the XML file that is being sent to PI and the extensions are not there.
Thanks!

Hi,

• Group By - Date: Web Service vs. Out of the Box

When selecting the drop down to group by Date in the Out of the Box Search application, the groups are delivered as:
- Within the last day
- Within the last week
- Within the last month
- etc...
But through the web service when we group by lastmodifieddate (or any other date attribute), the groups are separated by specific dates and not ranges. Is there a setting on the GroupAttribute object that you can use to have the groups return in date ranges? Or is the out of the box arranging these groups into date ranges manually?
My gut tells me that the groupingOption on the oracle.search.query.webservice.client.GroupAttribute has a reserved value for date ranges, but the 11.1.2.0.0 API says that only a value of "EQUALITY" is supported. Either that or the optionParameter on the same object, but I couldn't find an example of any values that can be used in it.

If BO is behind firewall then it is better to use Web Services SDK. Whenever Business Objects is installed the Web Service provider dswsbbobje is installed by default along with other out of box web applications such as InfoViewApp or CmcApp.
The WS SDK assemblies are at:
<Business Objects root>\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\web services\en\dsws_consumer\data\dswsdotnet2API or
<Business Objects root>\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\web services\en\dsws_consumer\data\dswsdotnetAPI
Include them in your Bin directory depending on version of .NET you use.
Write consumer application that calls into dswsbobje provider to get the report. Please check the [WS developer guide|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/wssdk_dg_12_en.zip] and [API Reference|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/wssdk_net_apiRef_12_en.chm] for further help. There are code snippets and details information in both places.

• Decoding the "Out of the box Demonstration"

Hi folks,
I am doing the out of the box demonstrations on SAP xApps for Personal Productivity_Request for Quotation Approval.
The demo works fine as written in the SAP documents and the recorded demonstrations.
Here I want to know how the scenario has been orchestrated.
I want to look at the VIsual composer and the WebDynpro.
Would anyone plese let me know
1. where the webDynpros and the VCs of this scenario are saved? and
2. how I can look at their details? I mean how they have been constructed?
for Visual Composer, I looked at the Public Model of Visual composer screen.
there I could find the VCs only for the procurement scenario and xApp Analytics.
For WebDynpro, I looked at the contents management
->WebDynpro link but couldnot get to the details.
I am urgently looking forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks

Hi Sudeep,
For the VC model of Quotation Approval Scenario you can get it by navigating in the portal content directory under:
Visual Composer -> Models -> com.sap.pcomp.1L8W.QuotationApproval -> com.sap.pcomp.model->QuotationApproval
Right click on it and then "Open in Storyboard". The VC model for the composite application will open in the VC storyboard. You can check there how it has been modeled.(note the code 1L8W maybe different in your portal).
For the webdynpro we have not packaged the code. The developer in my team who has developed it is currently on vacation this week and we will be able to provide to you via mail (zip file or so), when he is back next week.
I hope this is fine with you.

• Is there any list for out of the box portlets that come with portal installation.

Is there any list for out of the box portlets that come with portal installation?
Ramesh

Yes - it's in the online help, on the Learning About Your Portal : About Portlets page. Here is the content:
Portlets Created Upon Install
The following portlets (and their necessary portlet Web services and Remote Servers) are created when you install the portal:
Folder Expertise:This portlet displays the list of folders for which the user is an expert. It is added to the User Profile page by default.
General Information:This portlet displays the default Profile Page. It is added to the User Profile page default.
Managed Communities:This portlet displays the list of communities managed by the user. It is added to the User Profile page by default.
Portal Login:This portlet allows users to log in to the portal. You probably want to add this to the guest user's home page so that users can log in from the default page displayed when they navigate to your portal.
Portal Search:This portlet allows users to search your portal and access their saved searches. Users might want to add this to their home page for easy access to their saved searches.
The following portlet templates (and any necessary portlet web Services and Remote Servers) are created when you install the portal:
Community Links:This template is used by the portal to create portlets that display the links saved in a Community Knowledge Directory folder. To learn more about Community Links Portlets, see Community Links Portlets.
Content Snapshot:This template is used by the portal to create portlets that display the results of a Snapshot Query.
You can also install the following functionality as part of the Optional Enterprise Web Components:
[urlStored Content:This portlet template allows you to create portlets that display stored content that is periodically refreshed. You might use this type of portlet to display content that is resource-intensive or takes a long time to generate. To learn more about Stored Content portlets, see Stored Content Portlets.
[urlXML Source:This portlet template allows you to create portlets that can collect XML content from an external source and display it in the portal as HTML. To learn more about XML Source portlets, see XML Source Portlets.

• Is iview considered out of the box?

Hi,
If an iView is available is that considered out of the  box?
What out of the box means?
Is out of the Enterprise Portal Server.
Thanks in advance

"Out-of-the-box" iViews (and any other objects for that matter) would be any that are pre-made for you...like those that are part of the portal install itself, and those that are delivered with Business Packages. "Out-of-the-box" means it is ready to use for it's purpose without any intervention on your part.
The ones you refer too (from SAP transactions and/or PAR files or whatever else) are more "options" you have when creating an iView (or other object). When creating an iView, a "wizard" steps you through the process which gives you several options for the "kind" of iView you need.

• ESOA and Out of the Box services doubts

Hi,
I am reading about PI 7.1 and going through eSOA architecture. What I understand is, The eSOA says that we have some out of the box services avalable from SD, for example creating a sales order. This can be exposed as a web service from R3. When this available as a web service, and if the calling application is capable of calling web services, where is the need for PI? Why do we need to use PI for SOAP to SOAP communication?
How inside out and outside in approaches are different in eSOA architecture as far as PI and R3 are considered? Can some one clear my doubts?

no, no, just hints and personnal opinion
eSOA is SOA from sap marketing point of view. It was ESA, but nobody undertood, so, they changed the name to eSOA. Don't mind about the name, it is all about to have services well organized (someone could use "orchestrated") supporting business processes. Different than having function modules published for remote use
Well, developers has almost nothing to do with soa (but they want it We want (as developers) to make soa, but it does not work. This initiative (as sap really got in its soa name) need to be from enterprise level, and probably do not apply to mid-sized companies, only to the big ones.
Software architects will be probably disapointed (at least untill PI7.0 that we have here) and start to build their own components and their own soa strategy - very hard working.
I didn't find any of called "out of the box" sap services that really match our requirements, but found many bapis and standard functinos that do that. So, most of our services are based on using many different standard functions to provide a complete service, using sometimes ccBPM, sometimes abap proxies, sometimes soap to soap, sometimes RFC, even depending on requirements, but all of them centralized at PI to help on the governance of all those services.
Did you tried to go through ES Workplace and its forum? I think is a good starting point. You can get an user id to try the services there and make some experiences.
reagards.

• Out-of-the-box document management

Is there a framework set-up in Webcenter to have a document management lifecycle integrated within webcenter?
These documents would be fed to a bpel process to enable automatic dossier management and would enable dossier managers to update documents, add content to these documents, generate different formats of these documents, ...
We would lik to keep the technology stacks' footprint as small as possible regarding this document management and that's why I was wondering if there's an out-of-the-box solution available in webcenter.
The end-user should be able to administer and manage the different electronic documents that are managed in his electronic dossier.
We're already integrating with documentum as our documents base but the end-user approach to manage the content of these documents should be enabled through a user interface.
Kind regards,
Nathalie

Hi Nathalie,
Most of this functionality needs to be implemented on the content management side, Documentum in your case.
We do support Documentum as the content management system, here is the documentation.
Hope this helps,
Peter

• Is the latest update to the 6th gen nano a software download or does it come with the new watch faces and larger icons out of the box

Apple shows the new 6th gen nano with the new selection of watch faces and lager icons etc as per new update, but stores still have the 6th gen nano with just 3 watch faces and smaller icons etc. Is the newer spec just a software update that i do after purchase or does it come updated out of the box?
Thx

It should come out of the box with the new 1.2 update, but if it doesn't you can simply connect it to iTunes, download, and install the update from there.

• Help Please - on a VC that works out of the box with MAC before I sellup

I have to declare that I’m somewhat frustrated at the moment and I could do with some good advise please bare with me while I explain.
I have recently converted from all types of PC systems and MS OS to Apple. The conversion was based on a few drivers.
1, My wife finally has decided to “learn” how to do her own web work instead of asking me to look up this or that for her. So as she was starting from scratch I thought MAC.
2, At the same time I had a play with Vista at work and disliked it. I was using XP & W2K at the time.
3, I wanted to update my home hardware, which was 3 years old.
4, The accountant said I hadn’t spent enough on IT last year.
5, New project work in the planning that required video/audio work to upload onto the web and everyone said MAC was the best.
So having looked around and done what I thought was enough research I started investing. To date I’ve invested £4500 plus.
Started by buying
iMAC 24” 2.8 Gz Intel with 4GB ram (for the home office)
MacBook Pro 2.4 with 4GB ram (for out and about working)
iPHONE 16GB (which is great)
VMware Fusion was installed for those things that I couldn’t live without until I found a suitable replacement like MS Money, Paint Shop Pro, MS Office etc. Installed XP.
Tried Open Office found it to clunky and hard work working off files for MS Office that others sent/required. Ended up buying Office 2008 only to find VB macros don’t work in Excel and all my company spreadsheets still need PC MS Excel to run so back into XP via Fusion.
Then to MAIL which is great on the iPHONE as I can easily monitor my 5 email accounts, what a result. But now I come to attach JPG files as I would in outlook and they open into the content of text in the mail and will not stay closed but disrupt the message. Wholly unacceptable to my way of working with no cure.
Scanning next, so I down loaded GIMP to replace PSP which I find useless so back to PSP I go again via XP & Fusion.
Next and finally the VC project, Now please bare in mind that all I want to do is shoot film, upload it to edit it and then mount it on the web page. I have no desire to become any form of expert in the field just get the job done.
So reviewed iMovie to understand the spec. Realise it has limitation and reviewed FCE which seems to plug the gaps and boarders on being more professional.
At this point I must say I’m not totally new to this subject as I have used Studio8 and a JVC GR-DVL166EK video cam a couple of years ago and got on ok without any issues simple plug and play with great results.
Having reviewed the standards that the software is reported to work too without any publicly declared exclusions or exceptions by Apple I went shopping for the VC. (I didn’t know of the forum at the time and to the best of my knowledge Apple don’t advise of its existence in any product information on anything I have bought.)
I buy a Panasonic HDC-HS9 for £700 which doesn’t flaming work despite the fact that it should based on all the standards quoted by both manufactures and there are no disclaimers from either party that it won’t work.
I have reviewed the compatibility list on the support page (now I know its there) and find that the Panasonic HDC-SD5 does work. I reviewed the comprehensive detailed model spec on the Panasonic web site and there is no differences between the to models at all accept the HDD.
So why don’t it work?
*At the end of the day can anyone please recommend a VC that will produce high quality results without the need of a 3rd party software to connect and upload files convert and muck about instead of getting on with the job.*
And if all the publicised specs don’t allow you to conclude compatibility how can you protect your investment? Where do we legally stand and where is the accountability to the consumer.
<edited by host>
I am that fed up with the last 3 months of mucking about Bill Gat*es may just get me back.
Thanking anyone in anticipation for some meaning advise and help.
Regards
Alan

Hi, and thanks for you interest. The problems is that whether I'm using iMovie or FCE I get to a stage where the thumbnail image is present but if you try to play, import or any other action in either app it closes down and a message comes up " The Application Final Cut Express/iMovie quit unexpectedly - Mac OS X and other application are not affected" then asks if I wish to relaunch. I then hit the report to Apple button and afterwards relaunch. I was recommended to use Voltaic which I have tried, it worked but is to much mucking about for something that should work out of the box.
This problem happens on both the iMAC and the MacBook so quite sure it's not a OS software issue. All software update are up to date also.
Any ideas?

• Not able to start out of the box approval workflow programmatically

We have a requirement to start an out of the box workflow from a .NET web service.
We are using the StartWorfklow method:
wfManager.StartWorkflow(item, association, association.AssociationData
we are getting the below error message at the above line of code: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.. Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal
Then, we tried:
SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
            wfManager.StartWorkflow(item, association, association.AssociationData,
SPWorkflowRunOptions.Synchronous);
Now, the workflow got canceled automatically with "Failed on Start" status. In the "Workflow History", it is showing 2 records with "was canceled by System Account." & "failed to start" in the description
column.
Please advise.

Hi Zhengyu,
1. I've already done that:
a) when "SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()"
is used, there are no errors showing up and code gets executed. However, the workflow failed to start.
b) When I don't use elevated privileges, the code is showing an error (Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.. Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal) when
it tries to start the workflow (StartWorkflow method).
2. The workflow starts with no issues through UI. I tried it using "System Account" and another account.
3. I tried also "Collect Feedback" workflow template. Same results...
