I have an old apple ID I no longer use can I consolidate it into my current ID?

Five years ago when I was teaching public school, I established an Apple ID for my Mac computer at school. At that time I purchased some itunes. Years later I bought my first Apple product for personal use (my iPhone) and set up a new Apple ID. Tonight I was going through my iTunes library and I found several songs that needed to be "authorized" using my old Apple ID, who knows how many more are in my library like that. I authorized the ones I ran across and afterward they played fine. My concern is that I have this completely seperate Apple ID and I don't want it to mess with the current ID. How can I have my music from the old ID under my new ID? How can I close the old ID?

Hi mstephanie,
One of the things that makes having more than one Apple ID under which you have iTunes purchases is to go into Manage Your Apple ID on the old ID, and change your password on that ID to match the password on your new ID.
Not sure if you purchased any Apps under that old ID, but if you did, then when your device asks for a password to update the apps, you won't have to pay attention to which ID is showing. They both would take the same password.
Cheers,
GB
