JavaScript (Possibly) Help

Hello all.
I need help on a simple script!
Basically, I’m trying to make a very easy way to create
an automated TEXT menu/index page that builds when a file is added
within the same directory. So in theory, if file XXX.swf is added
to a folder (root directory of index document), it will be
displayed as a ‘_self’ text link, that is styled with
CSS, when the said document is opened – alphabetically I
guess (file name and extension would be fine).
It seems simple in my mind, but wouldn’t be surprised
if the code is a bit lengthy, so even if anyone knows of a
tutorial, a link would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,
Lucy

Try this test page (I use jpg images because I don't use
Flash menus
and have nothing to test with):
i) Open up a new .php page and above the DOCTYPE put in this
code:
<?php
function get_menuarray($this_subdir) {
$menufiles_array = array();
if (is_dir($this_subdir)) {
if ($dh = opendir($this_subdir)) {
while (($file = readdir($dh)) !== false) {
if (is_file ($this_subdir."/".$file) &&
eregi("\.jpg",$file)) {
$menufiles_array[] = $file;
closedir($dh);
return $menufiles_array;
?>
ii) NOTE: if you want to use .swf files just replace the
reference to
.jpg in the above code
iii) Put this in the the body of the page:
<table width="100" border="0" cellspacing="1"
cellpadding="0">
<?php
$myMenu = get_menuarray(menufiles);
foreach ($myMenu as $value) {
$tmp = explode(".", $value);
$thisLink = $tmp[0].".php";
echo "<tr>";
echo "<td><a href=\"$thisLink\"><img
src=\"menufiles/$value\"
alt=\"\"></a></td>";
echo "</tr>";
?>
iv) In a folder called menufiles put in your menu images (or
swf) - I
named mine a.jpg, b.jpg etc
v) Run the page. You'll see it makes a table with jpg menu
items and
autolinks them to a page with the same name as the menu
image. eg
a.jpg links to a.php, b.jpg links to b.php etc
I have zipped my test files here if you want them:
http://www.flyingtiger-dev.com/automenu.zip
I am not suggesting this is in any way a definitive solution
- it is
of course quite limited - but it should set you on the right
track.
Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto update can't be installed on my MAC ref. "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

    Recent upgrade to OS X Yosemite on my MAC and iPhoto update can not  now be installed msg reads, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." this is not possible help?

    That error message can be misleading. It means, that iPhoto on your Mac is not associated with your Apple ID.
    Either you did not set up  your Mac using the same Apple ID - did someone help with your setup and use a different ID? Perhaps a family member? Or did you let someone borrow your installer disks?
    Or did you not yet "Accept" iPhoto and other iLife apps to your Apple ID? Check the "Purchased" tab of the App Store, if any applications are waiting to be accepted. If you see "Accept" buttons, press them.
    You may  be unable to "Accept" now, if you missed the update to iphoto 9.5.1 on Mavericks. You could try to buy iPhoto, however. If you are lucky, it may show for free.
    Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
    Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put it back,if need be.
    Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
    Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
    If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
    If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

    imessaging on ipod touch doesnt work after iOs 6 update, can't send or recieve messages. it isnt the wifi since everything else is working. have tried every solution possible. help?!

    Short of a reset to factory settings I've found making sure iMessaging is not left minimised helps. It doesn't seem to keep its connection. So, by closing after each use this helps. I've been doing this since I logged out of iMessaging at least 1/2 doz times and even changed my apple id pw as this had ceased to be recognised. I get fewer send failures now and don't have an inactive send button so much. Having said this its all a bit of a work around as iMessaging isn't behaving as it once did. If over time not resolved will do factory reset. All the best.

  • Possible help I bought this iPhone, and after that I told him and lock

    Possible help I bought this iPhone, and after that I told him and lock, and I went to a companions did not know what should I do help me
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

    If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

  • Possible help

    Possibly helpful.  Having problems getting PDFs to download and freezing I started getting deeper into things.  Using that below I found the PDF I wanted downloaded was being download even though the KB number shown was froze. After 2 or 3 minutes  the 900 KB displayed fully. Okay, I'm on Dial Up and things are slow. Today I the phone company test our phone line and reported it good. I contacted the answering service for our Internet service and related of what I found. He has yet to return my call.
    Here's something I found;
    1 - Can do this after #5.  Start downloading anything, especially PDFs of fair to large size.
    2 - Click Control Panel
    3 - Click Network and Sharing
    5 - Click View Status - Connection Service should display
    6 - In bottom half, under activity is sent / received and showing if receiving - numbers changing
    7 - In bottom right hand corner is Tab "diagnose."  Click it.
    Doing such I found my Sever may be my problem. I took a Snap Shot of the Diagnose msg. Don't know of fast way to insert picture, but here is the msg. I got;
    Can not communicate with DNS server (198.88.216.2).
    Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response.
    Windows found a problem that can not be repaired automatically.
    Contact your Internet service provider or network administrator for help or click here for information about things you can try to help resolve the problem.

    please help me out.
    Thanks

    You need to write a custom script and it's location will depend upon when you want the script to execute.
    Radio Buttons and Check Boxes have a string value of "Off" when none have been selected and take the value assigned to the field when checked.

  • Unknown problem with JSP, JavaScript - Pls help

    Hi Friends,
    I am facing a strange problem. Explained it below. Kindly help me as it is really affecting my work. Thanks in advance.
    I am working on building a web application using jsp, servlet, ejb. the IDE used is WSAD 5.1.2.
    I have the below :
    1 JSP - Input page - for user input entry
    2. Java script1 - For all client side validations
    Java script2 - For handling the data submission to servlet (as selected by user)
    Javascript3 - Header & Menu Bar
    3 Servlet - This actually retrieves the values from the hidden parameters, sets them in session and redirects the control back to the jsp.
    Logic for one small iteration : Two drop downs are there. On selecting the first drop down the second drop down should be populated and the first drop down should display the user selected value.
    1. When the user selects the first drop down onchange() event gets fired which calls a method in the javascript.
    2. In the javascript I set the value of a hidden form field to the selected combo index and submit the form to the servlet
    3. In the servlet, I retrieve the hidden request parameter (Index),
    set the index in session. Do my business logic based on the value of the index. Set the collection (to be displayed) in second drop down in session.
    4. Send the response back to the JSP.
    5. In the JSP, we have a method which is called during the onload() event of the body
    6. This method sets the user selected values in appropriate controls(by taking from session)
    Problem faced: I have a javascript which creates the menu bar for my application and this i've included it in my jsp. I dont know whats wrong with this javascript, when it is commented out the page works perfectly fine. Both the user selected value and the collection are loaded exactly as expected. But when it is included the collection is loaded in the second drop down but the selected index of the first drop down is not set - the drop down gets reset to the default value.
    Also on body load of my jsp, I call a javascript method which sets the current date in one text field of my form. Even this is not working fine when I include this javascript. I don't see any script error in this javascript in my browser though. Strange but guess something basic :(
    I'm sure there is nothing to do with session. I've tried printing the entire flow. The Servlet sets the values correctly in session and they are also correctly available in the JSP page. The JSP also gets loaded with the user selected values but something happens on page load which clears the values to default.
    Am also confused in what way javascript is related to this, coz when I remove it things are working fine.
    Am really helpless here pls do the needful. any help is appreciated.
    Header.js [which includes the menu bar code]
    document.write("<!-- COMMON HEADER CODE -->")
    document.write("     <table id='mplPageHeader' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='2' border='0'>")

    <ui:textField binding="#{Fragment1.textField1}" id="textField1" style="position: absolute; left: 180px; top: 30px; width: 165px; height: 15px">
    <SCRIPT>
    var d = new Date();
    document.getElementById("Fragment1:textField1").value = d.toLocaleString();
    </SCRIPT>
    </ui:textField>
    </f:subview>
    </div>
    My problem is that doesn't matter what I do I cannot set the textField1 value from the script. For the actual application it does need to be a javascript - does anyone know how to do this on a page fragment as opposed to a plain page...
    The actual error I get is on the client side and it states that document.getElementById is null... :( someone please help.
    Thanks in advance.

    You probably need to prepend "form1:" to the id (or whatever your form's id is) One sure fire way to figure this out is choose view source in your browser and search for the target field.

  • JavaScript swapPhoto help

    I'm trying to modify some JavaScript. Right now, you click on
    a thumbnail of an image and a larger version of the image appears
    in a larger box to the right.
    I would like to change the thumbnail to text, so clicking on
    the text will change the image in the box.
    The html looks like this:
    <a href="javascript:swapPhoto('clay_tile1.jpg','Spanish
    style clay tile')"><img src="pictures/clay_tile1_53x40.jpg"
    width="100" height="40" border="0" />
    The JavaScript looks like this:
    // swap image and caption
    function swapPhoto(photoSRC,theCaption,thePrice) {
    var displayedCaption = document.getElementById("caption");
    displayedCaption.firstChild.nodeValue = theCaption;
    document.images.imgPhoto.src = "pictures/" + photoSRC;
    Here's an example of a page I built using the thumbnails:
    www.connoisseurslateandtile.com/gallery.html
    I'm trying to learn some JavaScript, but my eyes keep glazing
    over.
    Thank you for your help,
    Denny:A

    Hi,
    Don't use the single quotes for the function argument while calling the function.
    EX:
    <html>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function fun(str)
    document.write(str);
    var name="anand's birthday";
    fun(name);
    </script>
    </html>
    Best of luck,

  • Snake javascript game - help!

    Hi guys,
    I have to create the good old game of snake which can be found on mobile phones.
    I have 9 main tasks to complete, and am inexperienced with Java so would love any feedback!
    Have to first write table cells to fill out the general area for the game, I think this will be fairly easy, using the document.write method inside a for loop. I then have to add keyboard controls to move the pixel around the area.
    The next stage is to move the pixel automatically in one direction, I think the window.setTimeout method can be used here, not too sure how to implement it though. When it reaches the boundary, the pixel must be stopped. These 2 stages then have to be combined so that the pixel moves automatically until it either changes direction through a click of an arrow key of it hits the boundary. Next is to add a popup notifying that the snake has hit the boundary and stop the timeout. Then the snake has to grow each time it comes in contact with a single fixed pixel which moves everytime it comes in contact.
    Those are the main stages I have to complete, any help would be greatly appreciated, code, links to examples, anything like that,
    Thanks everyone!

    yeah.. java is much different than javascript. but I was seriously bored, so I took 45mins and coded a snake script that kinda.. plays by itself. I didnt code it according to your instructions cuz.. I dont code people's homework :\. anyway it should give you a big boost:

  • Javascript onClick help

    I have two radio buttons with corresponding text boxes for input, when one is chosen I am disabling the text box for the other, is there a way to "gray out" the disabled text box using background-color or something? Any help is greatly appreciated, nothing I've tried has worked. Right now my onClick looks like this:
    onClick=javascript:document.UserReg." + TEXT_ACCOUNT_NBR + ".disabled=true

    Pavel,
    The NULLing part isn't working. I have the submit as you suggested and when the checkbox is clicked the fields populate at expected, however, when I uncheck the checkbox the fields are not clearing.
    Here's what I have:
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_COMPANY').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_ATTENTION').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_ADDRESS').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_CITY').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_STATE').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_ZIP').value = "";
    document.getElementById('P1_BILL_PHONE').value = "";
    I have also tried NULL, null, and two single quotes ''.
    What am I doing wrong with this part?
    Thanks,
    Joe
