Permissions Verify and Repair Messages after Updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_2

Yesterday I installed the latest Java update. PRIOR to the update these were 'errors' showed when I ran Disk Utility:
Verify permissions for “HardDrive”
Permissions differ on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Deploy.bundle/ Contents/Resources/JavaPluginCocoa.bundle/Contents/Resources/Java/deploy.jar", should be lrwxr-xr-x , they are lrw-r--r-- .

IMAC 24"   Mac OS X (10.6.4)   Intel Core 2 Duo-2.4GHz-2GB memory

I'm having the exact same issue. It's not just Java for me though - there are hundreds of similar issues with iLife and Utilities.
I believe this is part of the reason my hard drive became corrupt and had to be changed. My Mac's been running much slower than it should and I don't feel I'm getting full use out of it... Since rebooting from Time Machine I've not ridded any of these errors. They fact they've been carried over makes me think that I'll never have a machine that works up to speed again.
Can't think what else could be to blame?

I've done permissions verifying, and repairs for years now. I'm also aware that many resulting messages can be safely ignored, but after the recent Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_22. update, there are two new messages. I hoping someone can offer some advice as to whether these can be ignored as well. My computer seems to be functioning fine. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Today I have had some really strange things showing up on my iMAC when I went to Finder, for instance there were a couple of things there "Folders Actions Setup which I took a screenshot of which is way too big to post here and also had "mail attachment" which put the screenshot into a blank email!
Anyone have any ideas? I am now quite concerned.
    Thank you.

  • Verifying and Repairing Permissions on Mac OS X 10.5 giving many errors

I am having a problem with verifying and repairing my permissions. I first noticed this yesterday and thought it was some kind of application conflict so I wiped my HDD via zero data and reinstalled OS 10.5 then upgraded to OS 10.5.1. Without installing any applications other than those that were installed via the CD and the update, I rechecked my "Repair Permissions" and got the following:

This appears to be a bug in the OS. Has anyone else had this problem. It has only occurred since I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. Any ideas anyone?

  • Is anyone else having problems with Verifying and Repairing Disk permissions?

Hey folks, every time I try to verify and repair disk permissions lately, this is all I get...
Verifying permissions for “Macintosh HD”Group differs on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be 80; group is 0.Permissions differ on “Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”; should be -rw-rw-rw- ; they are -rw-r--r-- .Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
I usually get a long list, then repair it, and it seems to keep things clean.
I'm having trouble with my address book.
When I move the mouse down the bottom of the page my dock doesn't come up right away, sometimes it won't - I have to command tab to go to another program.
So I'm wondering if these are related. Thanks for any help!

Not specifically Sky & Yahoo, but there seem to be quite a few threads with password problems and Yahoo. Is that what you are experiencing. Long thread here:

And a thread here where Gtj56 came up with a fix that worked for him:

How can I get them all Back ???

Have had the same issue - and conflicts between PC, Ipad and Iphone.  Gained 6000 names and lost contacts or contact contents.  Have had to edit on PC.  Spoke with Apple Express and was advised to do editing only on PC and then sync.  Was also told not to use Icloud until problems had been solved.  Have spent last two weeks recreating my contacts list.
Haven't yet bothered to reclaim my missing paid ring tones.

  • External HD Verify and Repair Permissions...

I have my iTunes library on an external HD and was wondering if I should verify and repair permissions for this drive as well when I do it for my internal HD??
    Thanks
    Ryan

No; the information the Disk Utility uses when it repairs permissions doesn't have any entries for disks which don't have Mac OS X installed. Each installation of Mac OS X contains an extra set of permission data in the /Library/Receipts/ folder, and most have an additional list of special permissions to check. These only contain data for the disk or partition on which the receipts are located.

  • Difference between "Verify" and "Repair" Permissions?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there's any harm for the reapair permissions proccess by clicking the "repair" permissions button first rather than clicking the "verify" and then "Repair" permissions button on disk utility.
    Thanks!

    Niel wrote:

I thought the same, since DU will tell you in the progress screen when you hit repair permissions something like "Verifying and Repairing Permissions on Macintosh HD... and so forth" So I should be ok by just hitting the repair permission button ony, right?
    Roger Wilmut1 wrote:
It's what I do and I should think everyone else. 'Verify' doesn't actually do anything, just lists problems, so there's little point. It's different with disk repair, because you can't repair the disk you're booted from, but you can at least check to see if there's a problem. This doesn't apply with permissions.
So in your view Verify is just a diagnostic, while Repair is a diagnostic and a repair right?

Its just strange, as soon as I repair all my permissions, if I verify them again straight away, there are some that already need re-repairing

  • Mac OS X 10.5.1 - Disk Permission Verify and Repair Functions Are Broken

Machine: Mac mini with 1.66 MHz Intel Core Duo,
OS: Mac OS X Version 10.5.1
Note: Upgraded to Leopard from version 10.4.10
When using Disk Utility to attempt to verify or repair the permissions of the internal hard drive volume containing the OS, the progress meter stops moving and the verify or repair operation does not finish. The Console log file reveals the problem:
    Mac OS X Version 10.4.10 (Build 8R2218)
    2007-10-29 17:57:06 -0700
    2007-10-29 17:57:07.061 SystemUIServer[3402] lang is:en

    Can't access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable
    Can't access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable
    Can't access "efi-boot-device" NVRAM variable
Note that the OS version is incorrectly reported as 10.4.10 in the console log. This was the version that I was using PRIOR to installing Leopard. The version I'm actually using is 10.5.1.

After a second look, the console messages do not relate to the problem I reported. They relate to another lockup problem I'm having after moving from Tiger to Leopard.
Nevertheless, the description of the problems I'm having with the Verify and Repair functions of the Disk Utility is accurate. I had absolutely no problems when I was using Tiger.

  • Permissions: Verify vs Repair

I'm still a bit unclear about the need for both Verify and Repair permissions. Since Repair will fix whatever needs fixing, why would I do just a Verify? Is it okay to skip Verify and go right to Repair?
And should I be doing either/both on a regular basis? (If so, how often?)
    Thanks in advance,
    rb

They probably left that in due to the Unix permission restrictions: you can only Repair if you are running Disk Utility from an Admin account, and not all users have that privilege. As for how often, I would recommend repairing:
-- Before AND after applying any Apple O.S. update.
-- After installing any new application.
-- After any unexpected system crash (kernel panic). Do it together with Disk Repair.

    Hi Jeffrey
The startup drive can only be repaired from another drive. You have to boot from the install disk.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then hold down the C key until you hear the chime.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to First Aid and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then you click on Repair Disk .
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
    Then run Repair Permissions.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.

  • Verifying and repairing in Snow Leopard not working

    Hi everyone.
I have a white MacBook (3,1) running Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6.8.  My computer was running extremely slowly so I opened the Disk Utility to try to repair it.  Disk Utility told me I needed to run my Snow Leopard installation disk and verify disk permissions from there.  I did so, and even though the estimated time said 27 minutes, it ran overnight, generated a long list of broken permissions, and nothing else happened.  I rebooted and now I could select "Repair Disk Permissions", so I did so, and again, the estimated time was 25 minutes but nothing happened.
From browsing the support community I see that this is a known issue with Snow Leopard.  What can I do to verify and repair permissions so I can then verify and repair my disk?  I would appreciate any information whatsoever.
    Thanks,
    Christine

    Try it this way:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Experiencing issues sending/receiving MMS messages after updating to iOS 6

I, like so many others, have been experiencing problems sending/receiving MMS messages after updating to iOS 6.  Other than that, I really do like the new update.  I have an iPhone 4S with Verizon.  I have been to Verizon, and the issue is not with my plan; it is definitely with the update.  My friend updated her phone also, but her phone is just the iPhone 4.  She does not experience these issues.  Is Apple aware and trying to fix the problem?  It is soooo frustrating!  I cannot send/receive picture messages, nor can I send/receive group messages.  ---  Has anyone come up with a solution to fix it yet, or is it something that Apple will have to do?
    Thanks in advance.

I also am having the same problem. I can't send a pic to anyone who doesn't have iMessage. Also, I don't always get the alert when I have a new message. I never had this problem before I updated to IOS 6. I have AT&T & an iphone4. It's isn't jail broken. I've been reading forums for a couple weeks now and apparently it has something to do with the apn. And I don't know how or even if I can change it. Then I also read it might have something to do with a damaged SIM card. And it might have been damaged when we updated. But those are just theories.
