SIU fails to create images
Using SIU 10.6.7 on a machine updated to 10.6.8, trying to create a NetInstall image of a 10.6.3 Retail disc. SIU fails consistently, even after a reinstall of the server admin tools.
This is what I get from the console log:
12/8/11 1:12:37 PM System Image Utility[154] Assistant - Selected source:"NetInstall of OS X 10.6.3 Installer".
12/8/11 1:12:58 PM [0x0-0x13013].com.apple.server.SystemImageUtility[154] objc[154]: Class SIUDiskUtility is implemented in both /Applications/Server/System Image Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/System Image Utility and /Applications/Server/System Image Utility.app/Contents/Library/Automator/Define Image Source.action/Contents/MacOS/Define Image Source. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
12/8/11 1:13:02 PM System Image Utility[154] Something didn't really work out here...
12/8/11 1:13:02 PM System Image Utility[154] Failed to create image from script createNetInstall.sh.
Try setting the debug level to verbose in the SIU preferences. This should give more information about the failure in the run log for the image build.
You should also be looking for the SIU logs instead of the console. They're in ~/Library/Logs (you access them through Console.app as well.)
I've never actually seen the "Something didn't really work out here..." message occur. It means that SIU failed to communicate with its helper tool that builds the images.

Upload image failed when create image asset
I am using JSK, run on Tomcat, each time when I try to create Image Asset, and upload a image file, I will get "Upload failed" error, and there is not much information for me to debug the exception, anyone saw the same error? Thanks
I happen to spot the root cause of the problem today by simply changing the Web Browser, my previous Firefox is too old, if using Firefox version 22, upload file will be fine

Disk Utility fails to create image from double layer DVD
I burned a double-layer DVD using iDVD. It plays fine on the mac and on set-top DVD players. However, when I try to create an image of the DVD using Disk Utility, I get "Can't create image 'name.cdr' (input/output error)". I've tried re-burning the original disk, but it gets the same error when trying to create an image. I've also tried each of the image types, all with the same result.
I was having similar problems, although I don't think my issues was related to a double-layer DVD. What worked for me was selecting File > New > Disk Image from Folder. Select the DVD in the file open/save dialog with the same options you used before (e.g., DVD/CD master, etc).

Hdiutil create srcdevice fails to create image
I want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).
I used:
hdiutil create -srcdevice /dev/disk1 /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg
I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0.
/dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.
I have tried this twice.
On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.
Before you ask, I did an fsck on this drive last night with no errors.
My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
You have to appreciate that I don't want to disturb the user by trying endless combinations of hdiutil, or distracting them while I'm playing with disk utility.
My questions:
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)
TIA,
Andrew
PS: CCC seems to be progressing well, so this eliminates a hardware problem.Fair points.
As it happens I don't care if the result is bootable or not. It's a safety guard because I'm about to wipe out the source disk, it's the files, documents and settings files I want to preserve - the source disk is so corrupt it won't boot anyway.
I wanted to do this as I can start and monitor this more easily remotely while the user is doing something else. It's also useful sometimes to know how to do something if I don't have access to something like CCC.
For the most part CCC is a file copy, while 'hdiutil create' is a block copy, and I tend to trust block copies more.
As it happens I've made some unusual progress in the last hour anyway, and I've changed my mind. I've decided that transferring large files over USB isn't a very sane thing to do anyway, and have used CCC to do a couple of backups. I was getting the same problems as above.
Using a different external drive, CCC has just run very sweetly for 160GB. On the original USB external drive, I've changed the power supply and USB cable, and so far (for 28 minutes) it has run fine. With the other, cheaper looking, black cable CCC didn't run for more than about 3 minutes without stalling. I've done a tail -f /var/log/system.log and seen no USB errors so far. How odd.
The other thing I've learned is that unmount using the disk utility seems to keep the volume unmounted - in itself very useful to know.
I've never come across such sensitivty in the choice of cables before!
Thanks for your response. -
System Image Utility 10.6.3 - fails when creating NetBoot image from DVD
System Image Utility 10.6.3, trying to create a NetBoot image from a bundled installer disc that came with a 27" Late 2009 iMac (iMac11,1). Image creation fails consistently, since the image that System Image Utility creates is only 901M.
Anyone see this before?

Hi Don, here's my guess...
The 901 number is additional space added in the scripts. This indicates that the source image size was 0.
Since you are making a NetBoot from Install media, under the covers the installer process is being run to create a NetBoot volume. The media shipped with the 27" iMac is most likely CPU specific and thus the installation fails because you are trying to create the image (i.e. install the system) on an unsupported CPU.
In order to produce a NetBoot from the install media, you'll have to create it on the 27" iMac.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the response. This makes perfect sense. I'll give this a try and shout back!
Thanks,

Disk Utility fails to create encrypted disk image
When creating a disk image using 256 bit encryption and a purely numeric password longer than 13 characters the following message appears:
Unable to create "ABC.dmg." (error -60008)
the error happens upon typing the 14th consecutive number into the Password field. I have created images under the same conditions in the past, Not sure if this is caused by Lion.Looks like one of the drives is bad.
While it passed being zeored with Disk Utility, it failed about 15 minutes into a 'Certify' using SoftRAID.
Now waiting on a replacement drive from Newegg. -
Disk Utility: Create image fails with input/output error
Starting to create an image and saving it into an external hard drive (MacOS extended Journaled).
It starts after less than 60 secs it comes out with an error : Failed to create the image (input/output error)If you don't mind I'd like to discourage you from backing up a drive onto a disc image file no matter where you plan to save it. Disc image files can be very problematical when it comes to trying to restore the backup. Furthermore, you cannot boot from a disc image. If the disc image file becomes corrupted then you have no backup.
I would like to propose that you think about a better way to backup your drive. You can clone the drive to your backup drive. It's easy to do using Disk Utility's Restore feature. A clone backup is not only bootable but you have direct access to all the files on the backup.
In order to make a bootable clone open Disk Utility. Select Disk Utility Help from the Help menu. Search for +duplicating a disk+. Click on "Duplicating a disk" at the top of the list of articles. Follow the directions. -
The export operation failed to create an image file
I've been experiencing bizarre behavior when attempting to export images to my Usb-connected card reader. After reading some threads on this form, I was convinced that my reader was defective. Same problem on a brand-new reader.
The specific behavior was as follows: I attempted to export roughly 150 custom-named 500 KB image files to the memory card. The last 15 or so failed to transfer and I got the message, "the export operation failed to create an image file for the versions identified below."
Trashing VP list didn't help. What did was changing the custom name. There was nothing particularly unusual about the original custom name and the new one was virtually identical. After changing the name, the export worked without a hitch.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior? Any ideas what's going on?problem was that the NEW card reader was faulty as well. My luck!

Has anyone received this error, "Failed to create directory for PX images"
I recently migrated to Windows7. 98% of the migration went well. All of my pictures and Elements Catalog came over fine. I had to "reconnect" all of the pictures in the catalog due to new directory name, but it worked fairly well. Of the 11,000 entries synch'd with photoshop.com, 10,500 re-synch'd fine. However almost 500 are stuck with an error of "Failed to create directory for PX images". Can anyone help with how to resolve this issue? Note, I did try to remove the picture from the album and then re-add, but that didn't work.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Thanks,

What problems are you facing in deleting files from PS.com. Are you able to maintain a proper synced catalog now ? If possible please elaborate so that we can help. -
Sharepoint server 2013 configuration issue - failed to create configuration database
Hi All,
I have installed the SharePoint server 2013. After installing the SharePoint products, the configuration stops at failure of creating configuration database.
Some system configuration & info:
- 1 Domain controller server run Active Directory services on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC1 with name DC.Brainfiniti.com)
- 1 Server which is used for installing Sharepoint server 2013 and MS SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 (PC2 with name App.Brainfiniti.com)
- All of PCs were satisfied the requirement of Sharepoint server 2013
- Firewall turned off & No antivirus tool was installed.
- During installing of Sharepoint, choose "Complete" option: Farm mode and use SQL Server instead of SQL Express.
- During configuration, created a new farm with a domain user account.
- Use domain account to log on and install, configure in Sharepoint & SQL server (PC2)
ATTEMPTS:
1. Tried install and set up all of steps with just 1 account - domain administrator.
2. Tried with separate domain account:
- SQL Service account use for:
+ Install SQL server 2008
+ Connect all SQL services
+ Admin for SQL server
- Setup account use for:
+ Member of local administrator group in PC2
+ Install Sharepoint
+ Run Configuration wizard
+ Was granted permission in SQL database: dbcreator, securityadmin, sysadmin and deselect serveradmin role.
+ Was choose for the database account in configuration database step
Also tried with SQL service account in this step.
3. Tried with Standalone mode for Sharepoint installing
4. Trie with domain name: Brainfiniti.local
5. Tried with some another solution from topic relate to database configuration in our community but not successful.
But all attempts are failed at this configuration database step :'(
Please correct me if I am going wrong by missing something or do I need to start/install some services.

Sorry! Cannot add screenshot because my account is still not verified. Will add later.

If anyone is able to solve this they are a genius (or I am doing something very stupid!)
I am trying to reinstall CS5.5 Master Collection from DVD media on Windows 7 64 bit PC but setup.exe fails due to a msxml3.dll error.
Following a big bundle of recent Windows 7 updates, I started getting 'bad image' msxml3.dll error messages when opening any CS5.5 master collection program (Eg Premiere / Photoshop / Illustrator / Dreamweaver). Following advice on some threads here I tried uninstalling and then using the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool to clean up install, then reinstalling from my original DVD media.
Whenever I try using run setup.exe from installtion disc 1 the installing fails due to 'Missing files'. I have also tried dowloading trial versions and runing setup.exe fro mthe downloaded files but i still get the same message.
I have searched the forum and others have experienced this error but none of the solutions I have found seem to be working for me - as many seem to relate to download installations whereas I am installing from original DVD media (which worked fine before on the same PC)
These are the FATAL messages from the PDApp log
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] PIM - Failed to Create XML instance : DOMDocument40 ADXML::initWithXMLPath Error:80040154
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Could not initialize ADXML object
12/11/2014 15:29:27 [FATAL] Setup - Unable to initialize. Error parsing setup.xml file
The PDApp troubleshooting seems to indicate that this is caused by error in downloads but I am getting it with both original media DVD and downloads.
I have also tried using my logon (which has admin privileges) and under our main admin account - and I get the same errors.
Is a clean install of Windows 7 + CS5.5 my only option?
Any help / info / advice / solutions very much appreciated! I have spent the last 2 days trying to sort this out and seem to be getting nowhere.
Thanks. Thanks for the reply kglad - much appreciated.
I have already tried that option (along with downloading files) as it was one of the solutions mentioned on other threads, but that also failed.
Any other ideas? -
Bootcamp fails to create windows 7 startup disk
Bootcamp version 5, running on Mountain Lion, keeps failing on creating the Windows 7 Startup disk. I'm using a 8gb USB drive and it formats it without any problems. The process will carry on until around 50% of copying installation files and then fails.
I've tried 2 different USB Flash drives and I've check the ISO image for Windows 7.
Can anyone help me with a solution? Or why this is happening.
ThanksVisit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
The Windows Support software download servers are notoriously slow. Try again and be patient. When you say it formats ok, it should be FAT format.
Your issue is addressed in the Boot Camp forum. -
Check printing - failed to load image
hello
i have an issue with printing checks. a long standing one.
my problems started when i put an image on a check. i wanted to add a signature image. once i did that, the popup that came up when i print a check did not come up. only for one user. i tried to solve the problem but it never got sorted out. so i created another username and removed the old one and it was working fine.
next i had an issue with the check not printing on blank pages for overruns only for one customer. to test why this was happening, i went to print preferences and and tried changing the maximum lines from 25 to 20. it popped a message saying 'failed to load image'. i ignored it. after that, i have now started to get the same problem of not getting the confirmation message when a check is printed.
why is this happening? is my only solution to delete this user and recreate one? any suggestions?Hi,
For the image related issue:
+Since it is a User specific issue,we would require the difference in permissions and security settings for that particular user and for a user for which it is working.
+What is the format of the picture (.JPG, >GIF etc.)
+If this happens only for one super user then try to create a new super user and test.

ThanksIt means you must have windows in a file instead of a disk and the file's extension is ".iso". For Example: WIN7INST.iso. .ISO files are the windows counterpart of Mac's .dmg files. How do you create a windows .iso files? I perfectly don't know but surely there's a program such as Disk Utility that can rip a Windows installer CD/DVD into a file with the .iso extension.
Back to you question: you need Windows in an .iso file format instead than a CD/DVD.
By the way... I'm not going to suggest you to do what I'm going to say because I'm not sure it always work but I sometimes rip a Windows CD/DVD with Disk Utility in "master" format (no compression) with .cdr extension. Then i just change the .cdr in .iso and it works in windows.
Why using a .ISO on a USB drive instead a CD/DVD? Becaus installation may be faster or in case you don't have a Superdrive, either internal or external, but necessary for installing Windows in BootCamp. From a generic CD/DVD reader, Windows installer will not start on a Mac, at least on my... dead late 2011 MacBook Pro.
Cheers
Simon
