Sun Cluster: Graph resources and resource groups dependencies

Hi,
Is there anything like the scfdot (http://opensolaris.org/os/community/smf/scfdot/) to graph resource dependencies in Sun Cluster?

  • Failover Zones / Containers with Sun Cluster Geographic Edition and AVS

    Hi everyone,
Is the following solution supported/certified by Oracle/Sun? I did find some docs saying it is but cannot find concrete technical information yet...
    * Two sites with a 2-node cluster in each site
    * 2x Failover containers/zones that are part of the two protection groups (1x group for SAP, other group for 3rd party application)
    * Sun Cluster 3.2 and Geographic Edition 3.2 with Availability Suite for SYNC/ASYNC replication over TCP/IP between the two sites
The Zones and their application need to be able to failover between the two sites.
    Thanks!
    Wim Olivier

    Fritz,
Obviously, my colleagues and I, in the Geo Cluster group build and test Geo clusters all the time :-)
We have certainly built and tested Oracle (non-RAC) configurations on AVS. One issue you do have, unfortunately, is that of zones plus AVS (see my Blueprint for more details http://wikis.sun.com/display/BluePrints/Using+Solaris+Cluster+and+Sun+Cluster+Geographic+Edition). Consequently, you can't built the configuration you described. The alternative is to sacrifice zones for now and wait for the fixes to RG affinities (no idea on the schedule for this feature) or find another way to do this - probably hand crafted.
If you follow the OHAC pages (http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/ha-clusters/) and look at the endorsed projects you'll see that there is a Script Based Plug-in on the way (for OHACGE) that I'm writing. So, if you are interested in playing with OHACGE source or the SCXGE binaries, you might see that appear at some point. Of course, these aren't supported solutions though.

  • Dependency between Sun Cluster 2.2 and Sun hardware ?

I am evaluating Sun Cluster 2.2 for the usage as clustering software within our project.
Can anybody say me, if there is a dependency between Sun Cluster 2.2 and Sun hardware ?
Can I use Sun Cluster 2.2 with other hardware platforms running Sun Solaris 7 and Veritas Volume Manager ?

I have had this discussion with fellow cluster admins, and we think a port of cluster 2.2 could be done to Intel running Solaris. And here is the BUT, BUT SUN does not support anything except a SPARC based cluster. So currently there is definately a depedancy bewteen the 2.2 software and the hardware.
    Hope this helps

  • How IT Resource and Resource Objects are linked?

    Hi All,
I am new to OIM product and learning the basics. I have 2 questions.
I am not able to figure out how an "IT Resource" and "Resource Objects" are linked?
We always link "Resource Objects" and "Process Definition". How "Process Definition" picks the values provided in "IT Resource"?
    Thanks in Advance
    Jatin

    Hi
I don't think "IT Resource" and "Resource Objects" are anyway linked with each other.
"IT Resource" is something where you specify all the resources in the system which are not meant to be provisioned to users. Like proxy server or Email server in your organization.
"Resource Objects" is a place where you define all the resources that you provision to users.
This is my understanding, which might be wrong. I think someone more experienced user can give better answer to this question.

  • Sun Cluster 3.1 Failover Resource without Logical Hostname

Maybe it could sound strange, but I'd need to create a failover service without any network resource in use (or at least with a dependency on a logical hostname created in a different resource-group).
Does anybody know how to do that?

Well, you don't really NEED a LogicalHostname in a RG. So, i guess i am not understanding
    the question.
Is there an application agent which demands to have a network resource in the RG? Sometimes
the VALIDATE method of such agents refuses to work if there is no network resource in
    the RG.
If so, tell us a bit more about the application. Is this GDS based and generated by
Sun Cluster Agent Builder? The Agent Builder has a option of "non Network Aware", if you
select that while building you app, it ought to work without a network resource in the RG.
But maybe i should back up and ask the more basic question of exactly what is REQUIRING
    you to create a LogicalHostname?

  • Sun Cluster 3.0 and VxVM 3.2 problems at boot

    i 've a little problem with a two node cluster (2 x 480r + 2 x 3310 with a single raid ctl.)
    Every 3310 has 3 (raid5) luns .
I've mirrored these 3 luns with VxVM, and i've mirror also the 2 internal (o.s.) disks.
One of the disk of the first 3310 is the quorum disk.
Every time i boot the nodes , i read an error at "block 0" of the quorum disk and then starts a fastidious synchronization of the mirrors. (sometimes also of the os mirror..)
    Why does it happen?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Mauro.

We did another test today and again the resource group went into a STOP_FAILED state. On this occasion, the export for the corresponding ZFS pool timed-out. We were able to successfully bring the resource group online on the desired cluster node. Subsequent failovers worked fine. There's something strange happening when the zpool is being exported (eg error correction?). Once the zpool is exported, further imports of it seem to work fine.
When we first had the problem, we were able to manually export and import the zpools, though they did take quite some time to export/import.
"zpool list" shows we have a total of 7 zpools.
"zfs list" shows we have a total of 27 zfs file systems.
Is there any specific Sun or otherwise links to any problems with Sun Cluster and ZFS?

  • Business event with resources and resource type

    Hi,
I am doing bdc for tcode pv10,i want to update the resource type and resource,i tried with it,i do not get idea, pls give me u r suggestions.
    cheers,
    karthi

    Hi,
You need to click on the 'Resource Selection' button on the top left hand corner of the create event screen.
If you do not see any resources there, it means you have not added resources to your event type. Go to PP01, and create relationship A022 (requires resource type).
For rooms and materials, this is fine. For instructors, you need to create relationship A026 (is held by) also.

  • Find resources and resource name

I'm using LV6i and I'm a little bit unhappy with that new data type VISA
resource name which is input to the VISAOpen VI.
If I use the FindResource VI, it returns a list with all the found
resources. How can I select out of this list and wire the result to VISA
resource name input. Is there a function to convert string into
VISAResourceName? I found only VISAResource controls and constants, aren't
there any conversion functions? If not, FindResources is useless, cause you
can't use that information for further processing.
Second question: Is the VISA Resource control a hidden FindResource because
it offers me some resources in my system, but not all of them (in fact, it
offers me COM1 and LPT1 but not GPIB).
Last but not least a question
of a more programming philosophy nature: If I
execute a VISAOpen to a instrument on the GPIB bus, it changes into remote
operation. But why does the VISAClose not the exact reverse the VISAOpen,
e.g sends a GoToLocal to the device, so that the instrument returns into
initial condition ? I find it more consistent to leave a VISA execution
chain with device on local. If I want to set a device into local I have to
use the Misc VI with loc xx input. And this VI doesn't use the VISA resource
name but a string. That's rather inconsistent.
    Any opinions?
    Oliver Friedrich

Okay, first, I put strings into VISA resources all the time. A VISA resource name is a special type of string. Create a VISA Resource Name control and then create a local variable from it. Wire your string to the local variable. When the program is run the string will be transferred in to the VISA Resource Name control. Be sure to enable the Allow Undefined Names in the VISA Resource.
A VISA resource control only lists VISA resources that have been defined in NI VISA. If you have another type of VISA loaded on the system, or have not defined aliases in MAX, then they will not show up in the VISA Resource Control. Yes, this is annoying.
I personally would not like VISA close to send a device back to local mode. I do not like languages (or word processors - hear
this Microshaft?), that assume they know what I want to do. There is much more flexibility in letting the user decide when to go to local mode. If you want a close VI that also goes to local, then write your own library routine that does this.

  • Information about Sun Cluster 3.1 5Q4 and Storage Foundation 4.1

    Hi,
I have 2 Sunfire V440 with Solaris 9 last release 9/05 with last cluster patchs.. , Qlogic HBA fibre card on a seven disks shared on a Emc Clariion cx500. I have installed and configured Sun cluster 3.1 and Veritas Storage Foundation 4.1 MP1. My problems is when i run format wcommand on each node, I see the disks in a different order and veritas SF (4.1) is also picking up the disks in a different order.
    1. Storage Foundation 4.1 is compatible with Sun cluster 3.1 2005Q4?????
    2. Do you have a how to or other procedure for Storage foundation 4.1 with Sun Cluster 3.1.
I'm very confuse with veritas Storage foundation
    Thanks!
    J-F Aubin

This combination does not work today, but it will be available later.
Since Sun and Veritas are two separate companies, it takes more
time than expected to synchronize releases. Products supported by
Sun for Sun Cluster installation undergo extensive testing, which also
    takes time.

You can't do it with the agent directly as it stands, as far as I can tell. However, you could do it indirectly by creating a pool and binding that pool to the FX scheduler. You then create a zone and bind the zone to the pool and put the HA Oracle instance in the zone If you do that on both nodes you achieve what you want (I think). I've never tried this, but it would appear to be feasible.
i.e. your RG list would be:
    node1:zone1,node2:zone2

    ARSSES

    Hi all.
I am having a similar issue with a Sun Cluster 3.2 and SAP 7.0
    Scenrio:
Central Instance (not incluster) : Started on one node
Dialog Instance (not in cluster): Started on the other node
When I create the resource for SUNW.sap_as like
    clrs create --g sap-rg -t SUNW.sap_as .....etc etc
in the /var/adm/messages I got lots of WAITING FOR DISPACHER TO COME UP....
Then after timeout it gives up.
Any clue? What does is try to connect or waiting for? I hve notest that it's something before the startup script....
    TIA

  • SAP Netweaver 7.0 Web Dispatcher HA Setup with Sun Cluster 3.2

    Hi,
How to HA SAP web dispatcher, which is not mentioned in the guide 'Sun Cluster Data Service for SAP Web Application Server Guide for Solaris OS'.
Since I do not want to install central instance within the cluster, should I install two standalone web dispatcers within the two nodes, and then HA it? Or maybe just install it on the shared storage with CFS once?
And specifically, what kind of resource type should I use for it? SUNW.sapwebas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

  • Shared Tuxedo 8.0 Binaries on a SUN Cluster 3.0

I know pefectly well that in every installation document BEA strongly advise not to
try to share executables across remote file systems (NFS etc.) Still i need to ask
if one of you have any experience in a setup of a SUN 8 / SUN cluster 3.0 enviroment,
where 2 or more nodes shares disks by the same SUN 3 cluster. The basic idea is to
have the the Tux8 binaries installed only once, and then separate all the "dynamic"
files tmconfig, tlogdevices etc in to its own respective katalog (/node1, /node2
etc.) But stil they remain on the clusterd disks.
Thank you for a quick response.
    Best of regards
    Raoul

We have the same problem with 2 SUN E420 and a D1000 storage array.
The problem is releted to the settings on the file :
    /etc/system
added by the cluster installation :
    set rpcmod:svc_default_stksize=0x4000
    set ge:ge_intr_mode=0x833
the second one line try to set a Gigabit Ethernet Interface that does not exist.
We comment out the two line and every things work fine.
I'm interesting to know what you think about Sun Cluster 3.0. and your experience.

  • Sun cluster Node ID Order

I installed Sun cluster 3.1 and it all seemed successful. However, the node ID and the private hostnames seemed twisted. "comdb1" has the node ID of 2 and "comdb2" has the node ID of 1. I installed the software from "comdb1", so it should have used that as node 1, right? I pasted below some info from 'scconf -p'
    Cluster node name: comdb1
    Node ID: 2
    Node enabled: yes
    Node private hostname: clusternode2-priv
    Node quorum vote count: 1
    Node reservation key: 0x4472697D00000002
    Node transport adapters: ce4 ce1
    Cluster node name: comdb2
    Node ID: 1
    Node enabled: yes
    Node private hostname: clusternode1-priv
    Node quorum vote count: 1
    Node reservation key: 0x4472697D00000001
    Node transport adapters: ce4 ce1
    Thank you in advance.

Consequently, when installing Oracle 10g RAC, the database name "db1" is created on node2 and "db2" is created on node1 since it relies on the private node name and the node ID. Otherwise I wouldn't bother with how the cluster software names its node ID.
    Thanks again,
    Luke

  • Sun Cluster 3.0 update 1 on Solaris 8 - panics!

I am building a test system in our lab on admittedly unsupported hardware configurations but the failure wasn't expected to be so dramatic. Setup as follows:
    2x E250 (single processor, 512 MB RAM)
dual connected to D1000 fully populated 18 Gb HDD
Solaris 8 6/00 with all latest recommended patches
Sun Cluster 3.0 update 1 installed with latest patches.
On first reboot (on either node), the kernel panics with the following:
    panic[cpu0]/thread=3000132c320: segkp_fault: accessing redzone
This happens straight after the system sets up the network and happens like that everytime and is easily reproduceable. My question is, has anyone successfully used SC3.0 update 1 on Solaris 8 6/00? Any information would be most appreciated.
