270 dollar zen extra broken after short warranty left high and

My Zen Xtra is fi've months old I haven't dropped it and when I picked it up to use the other day it wouldn't work. It turns on and visually looks as though its playing a song but no sound comes out. The menu works until you try to do something that would access the hard dri've (I believe that is the point at which it stops working). At this point it freezes and won't even turn off. Going into recovery mode doesn't work either. Holding down the play/pause and using the reset hole has no effect. If creative does not stand behind this product i would not buy anything from them again. To pay 270 dollars i expect a product to last longer than fi've months and a 90 warranty seems inadequate.

  • How much would it cost to get a Zen Xtra repaired after the warranty has expir

Also, does it cost money to get it fixed during the warranty? I wouldnt think so, but just checking.

it would cost very little as think about it, it uses removable batteries so too many charge cycles can be easily remedied by buying a new battery. Also, although i own a flash player and not the zen xtra so cannot verify this, it uses standard 2.5" laptop hardri'ves that are not modifyed to not work outside of the player like in the Muvo2, so that is also easily replaceable. So the two most common casues of HDD mp3 player deaths have already been dealt with. If something else brekas and you are out of warranty ibelieve you have to buy a whole new unit.

  • AirPlay broken after upgrade to iTunes 12 and iOS 8.1.3

    Hi,
Upgraded to itunes 12 and iOS 8.1.3 and AirPlay has now broken. I have never had any issues before with AirPlay (in nearly two years.)
i can only get the AirPlay icon to appear in iphone 6 control centre if I reset my router (HH3). Icon disappears overnight however.
Icon is also missing completely from iTunes. This is permanent.
I have tried everything. factory reset my router, powered down all devices inc iPhone 6 (and reset all network settings) and repaired my power line adapters but I can't get AirPlay to work at all using my Pc.
    Help!
    THanks!

Ps I should clarify that I updated to iTunes 12.1

  • IMac still broken after 10.5.7 problems and Erase and Install

I had written the following at the end of a "solved" post when it was suggested that I start a new post instead. So here is what I had...
Ok. I think my iMac was turned into a giant paper weight by 10.5.7.
Here's what happened with the Archive and Install. The screen said "Calculating Time Remaining" and stayed there for over an hour. I searched the boards and found that I should try to create a partition with Disk Utility and then try again.
So, I hard reset the computer and reboot off the Leopard DVD. I tried to make the partition but couldn't figure out how. Turns out I needed to click on the actual hard drive icon, not the existing Volume icon (which I discovered later). So, I checked the drive for repairs and it still checked out ok. I decided to erase the drive and go from there.
While tinkering in the Utilities I noticed the Restore from Backup option. So, I plugged in my Firewire Time Machine drive and began a restore from the last time my System was using 10.5.6. The restore completed successfully and I was hopeful that things would be ok.
I restarted the machine and it immediately went in to Open Firmware and the fans start spinning at full. So, I shake my head and decide to reset NVRAM. It tries to reboot and I have to hard restart it 3 or 4 times (as usual lately) and was able to reboot again off the Leopard install DVD.
That's it, I thought. I'm going to erase and install OS X.
I go back to Disk Utility and figure out how to partition the drive. I create a single partition and begin the process of Install OS X. It says starts fine and in about 40 minutes it is complete.
Restart with fingers crossed! New OS, wiped drive... it HAS to work, right?
    Nope.
Same problems... freezing on boot, fans loud, etc. I reset PRAM and SMU(SMC).
Luckily I don't have any pressing work on my computer - someone who did would be quite angry with Apple that this was happening.
For my part... I now have a wiped hard drive... all iTunes content, iPhoto content, all my apps, games, docs... GONE. I do have the Time Machine backup... but did it really have to come to this? I suppose my hard drive could be failing... but wouldn't the multiple disk checks have shown something?
If there are any suggestions I'm all ears. I have reached the limits of my troubleshooting knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Jon
    Follow-up:
After the computer had been off for several hours over night I decided to start it up again to see what would happen. At first it looked encouraging... got the startup chime, the Apple logo, the progress wheel.... then kernel panic.
Several hard restarts later (to get the Leopard DVD out of the drive) and the iMac now sits, packed in it's original box, ready to go to the Apple Store.
My question is this... does anyone think this might be a power supply issue?
The reason I ask is that I exhausted ALL troubleshooting procedures that I can think of. These include:
    Replacing RAM, both DIMMs
Reset PRAM and NVRAM and SMC
Check hard drive using install DVD - OK
Restore 10.5.6 from Time Machine drive - did not resolve issues
Erase and Install OS X - did not resolve issue
Plug iMac in to wall outlet versus power strip
    Removed all peripherals
    etc, etc
I just can't believe that upgrading to 10.5.7 would hose my hardware. The iMac was working fine until 10.5.7 except the occasional crash of Halo on the larger maps.
    Totally stumped.
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Hello Joanne:
A suggestion - reset the SMU:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
If that does not help, let me try to answer your questions.
Wondering if I should roll back to 10.5.4 which is what I had, and, if so, how to do it?
If you have Time Machine, use that (a copy before the problem). If you do not have TM (or a bootable clone) the way to go back is to do an archive and install:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Also, I've downloaded the Safari update, which I know won't run on that, so would I even be able to get the old Safari back?
The archive and install will do that. By the by, Safari 4 should run just fine on your system. It is faster than Safari 3.

  • Iphone5 warranty ( left speaker and lock key )

    Hi there,
i bought my Iphone 5 on februray on 2013. After few months of using it, my iphone 5 lock key and left speakers wasn't working anymore. I heard that, i can still claim it under warranty as it is purchased in less than 1 year. But the critical problem is, i bought my iphone through online in Malaysia, and i am now studying in Australia. it wasnt a great idea to bring my phone back to Malaysia and claim for the warranty.  I am wondering if i can bring my phone to any Apple store or Apple service centre in Australia Melbourne to claim my warranty? Or is there any other way i can do ? Thank you.

Okay, time to fix a few things.
You're left speaker isnt working? Hm, iPhone has never had a left speaker, so if you could show it to me, I would appreciate it.
Visit your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. They will check to see if your phone meets warrenty requirements or not.
Don't have any expectations to how Apple will fix your prouduct.

  • Playback error after song plays on Zen Extra 4

I have two Zen Extra 40gb models. Just updated the firmware to the latest version. BIG MISTAKE - now each player flashes a playback error message window after each song is played. It will go on to the next song fine, but the message is annoying.
Creative tech support gave no workable answer. I'm very disappointed. I guess I should have left well enough alone.
Tech support suggested reformat and reload, but I didn't have the problem on either player before firmware update - that should tell creative they have a firmware issue. It's not my MP3 files at fault. They play fine in three different pc's in my home.
Anyone have experienced this same issue, and what was the fix?
    Thanks

I actually think I figured it out. It plays normally if the songs are in the selected music tab. I want to play them in the media library though. But the thing is, I somehow had the option to change the play mode when I was in the Artist list. I don't know how. I'm going to research it more. If anyone knows how to help us please let us know!

  • Zen Extra Not Detected after upgr

    Hi All,
I have a 30GB Zen Extra with firmware .03.02 and an XP ServPak 2 laptop with all current critical updates. This morning I upgraded from MediaSource Organizer 2.0.07 to Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38.
When I run MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38 it does not detect my Zen Extra (it says "player not connected"). When I run the old version of MediaSource Organizer (version 2.0.07) it detects the player just fine.
I tried to look thru the Knowledge Base but all of my search terms did not provide any useful answers.
Any way to get MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.0.38 to connect to my Zen Extra?
And why is the old version of MediaSource Organizer still on my system? Shouldn't the upgrade delete it's
    Thanks!
    Advait

must be a common issue. Same thing happens to me with my Zen Sleek.
What I'm going to try is deleting ALL Creative stuff and starting over. It is probably a software bug. I don't expect it to work, but I will give it a shot.

  • Flashing question mark folder at start, broken CD drive, warranty Q's.

    Hello! Thanks for reading.
Okay, so here's the background: I was just chilling around the house yesterday with my macbook, and it freezes, with no response from the touchpad or keyboard. I figure no problem, and just turn it off and on again. And then thats when I got the flashing question mark folder.
So I hopped on my family's PC to do some research, hoping to be able to fix it myself. Turns out the best way to fix it is to pop in the disk that came with the computer during start up... which I can't do because my disk drive is broken. I also tried other things, like pressing various keys (ctrl + option + p + r, or something like that)... and that didn't work.
The disk drive broke when I was at school, and as it was finals week, I had no time to get my computer to a genius bar. Then I moved quite a distance (see below), a process which has taken up most of my summer and made me quite busy to the point it has taken my macbook pretty much dying on me to get it to a genius bar. Gah.
So I guess I have a lot of questions now.
My computer is JUST a year old, by give or take a week or two.
I bought my computer from an authorized U.S. reseller in Japan while I was living there (I live in the US now, which I definitely wasn't expecting a year ago)... and no contact from apple came to buy apple care. Is it possible that because of the circumstance under which I bought my computer, that apple may still cover any repair or replacement fees under the warranty?
Also, I made an appointment at the local genius bar. Will that be free?
Also, does anybody have any other suggestions about how to get my computer up and running away from the **** that is the question mark folder?
Much thanks! I appreciate your time.

You made 2 big mistakes. 1) Apple may or may not contact you about AppleCare (sometimes I've gotten a postcard or email and other times I've not) but it is up to you to buy it before the 1 year mark. 2) whether it was convenient to get the computer repaired at the time or not, you should have contacted Apple to get the issue in the computer. If you didn't, Apple has no reason to believe it happened after the warranty ended.
You are going to foot the bill for the repairs

  • Zen Extra harddisk prob

My Zen Extra will only go into rescue mode when turned on. If I then proceed to try a "Format All" or a "Reload OS" it says I have a harddisk problem. I have tried to "Clean Up" but it doesnt do anything, it just sits there in recovery mode. I have tried to reload my firmware, but with no result, as it takes longer than the life of the battery to load (it sits there with one bar filled, and doesnt change for hours) and It refuses to let me try it while plugged into the charger.
    What should I do?

alright i just tried the newest version of the firmware for the umpteenth time and SURPRISE! it works. i dont have to reinstall it everytime the silly thing fails a transfer, but it still fails transfers after a few files. any ideas?

  • Updated Zen Extra Firmware Now It Doesn't Work The S

I recently updated to the latest PlayForSure firmware on my 30 GB Zen Extra so that it would work with Vista. I mainly use it to listen to audio books. It used to be that when I would start the player it would remember where I was in the track I was listening to and it would start from there. Now it starts at the beginning of the track. These tracks can be several hours long and it's a PITA to have to scroll through and find the point I was at in the book. Am I setting something incorrectly, or is this something that Creative needs to address?

Theres a few other changes with the plays for sure firmware..
previously if you slected a track from the music library and hit 'play now' while there were some trascks playing form the slected music list, the slected music list would clear, and the play now track would start playing.
Now when you slect play now it drops the track at the bottom of the selected music list and keeps al the other tracks as they are.
    Idle shutdown/sleep
previously the Zen would go into a hibernation mode, and after 24 hours it would completly shutdown.
If you switched it on within 24 hours of it last being used it would start instantly and you would only see the creative/EAX ( or custom ) start screen after 24 hours of non use.
now theres no hibernation mode and the player takes longer to start, however long term battery life should be better like this.
    any other changes?

  • Problems with zen x-fi after downloading new update or after plugging it into my hi

hiya a couple of days ago i downloaded the new update for my zen x-fi 32gb, on the same day i plugged the zen into my hi-fi for the st time
ever since then the volume has been quieter and my equalizers havent been working
when i start the player up and use the ear-phones its really quiet but i turn the speaker on and off again and it sounds a little bit louder but not as loud as it used to be
i used to have the volume up to 6-8 and now its on 22-24, but it sounds like the same volume
i try to change the equalizers but it sounds no different
is there anything i can do? or is there anyway of telling wheather its the hi-fi or the update? thanks alot

    Hi again.
After much fiddling with firmware and the player I have re-upgraded the firmware to the newest 08 version (it was already loaded anyway). I have also turned off all the 'extras' like the X-Fi and crystalliser and this has solved the crashing. I tested the playback the other day without these 'extras' and using the hold switch to power down the screen... and battery life was excellent - around 26 hours!
Anyway, the problem I have now is the battery is dying when the unit is turned off because it has gone into this standby mode i keep reading about. I have researched on this forum and Anything but ipod forum but i can't find a definiti've answer on how to solve this problem.
Can someone confirm which version of firmware I should downgrade to Or if there are any tricks to save my battery when i'm not using the player?
    Thanks

  • EarPod cable is broken after 13 months

My EarPod cable is broken after 13 months, thus just 1 month out of warranty. I wonder if this is usual for an Apple product during very normal use. The effects are that the sound is broken sometimes and that the remote does not function anymore. I do not know this effect from earlier headphones while using them for listening to music and/or phone calls. Have earlier products been more robust? Can I apply for refund or a new EarPod?

As you noted, it's out of warranty so you can get neither a refund nor a replacement at no cost. You'll need to purchase new ones. Or just ask around. Many people who buy iPhones never use them (I can't stand them) so someone you know with an iPhone may have an unopened set lying around.

  • Nomad Zen Extra Just Won't W

I'm now trying to install/load with tracks/use my second Nomad Zen Extra, after tech support told me to return the first one. Same problem. I cannot load tracks onto the device, Windows ME continues not to recognize/install the device, and I'm stumped. Device manager recognizes the unit, but then when I try to install a driver and goes through the lists on the provided CD, Windows response is that it cannot find the driver.
I went to Creative's website and found, then downloaded, a "new" driver (2003), so I presume it is on the Creative CD which came with the unit.
    What am I doing wrong?
For now, the unit is useless.
    Thanks for your help.
    Dave

I tried another USB port, and now Device Manager says the Nomad is there. But, when I go to the Creative Source Manager program, "My Computer" in the right panel still does not show the Unit present. For whatever reason, Windows is not showing the unit in the list of dri'ves and folders.
Now, all of a sudden, when I'm in Device Manager, the Nomad has disappeared and is no longer there. Now it's back again. I presume this is caused by the auto-off battery save feature of the unit.
Is the unit installed to "My Computer" or to the Desktop? How can I tell? Why can't the right panel show "Desktop" but only "my computer?"
    Thanks for your help.

  • Zen 4GB inoperable after MP3 Recovery Tool

*Zen 4GB inoperable after MP3 Recovery Tool' I was getting the intermittent white screen problem with my Zen 4GB. Tech support instructed me to use the MP3 Recovery Tool. After running the tool, the player is inoperable. It turns on, but the screen is always white or gray and no interface is displayed. The blue light near the power switch turns on. Reset does not help. After running the recovery tool a 3rd time, Creative Zen Media Explorer recognizes the player when connected, and I can browse the media that is installed. I couldn?t even do that on the first two tries. Currently I am unable to play any files because I don?t have a user interface to navigate.
The support email instructed me to create an online RMA if the recovery tool did not work. I have attempted this numerous times and always receive a message that there is an error. No specifics. I tried replying to the original support email, but got no response. I tried sending a new email through the support website several times, but don?t even receive the automated response. It is not showing up in my email service?s spam folder. I have received no reply for the past several weeks, but I wonder if they are actually receiving my messages.
Any suggestions? My warrantee runs out in about a month and I want to get this resolved while it is still possible.
Technicals: Windows XP Media Edition, SP3; Creative Media Explorer v5.70.5; Windows Media Player .

    Hello Buckaroobonzai,
    Welcome to Creative forums!
This doesn't look good. White screen is a symptom of a hardware problem. I suggest you contact tech support by phone as soon as possible before your warranty expires. Check your PM.

  • MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013 thunderbolt port broken after 10.9.4 update

One of Thunderbolt Port (near USB port) was broken after 10.9.4 update.
I usually use mini Display Port to Display Port cable to connect my external screen, it works fine before 10.9.4 update. After 10.9.4 update, I tried to connect the external screen with the same cable, and the main screen of my MacBook Pro with Retina Display twinkling once so I'm sure the external screen was identified, but no video signal output.
I went to local Apple Premium Reseller (there is no Apple Store in Taiwan) and the they told me all of Thunderbolt Port was fine, they test with their own 10.9.2 copy and it seems ok. After that, I tried to re-install 10.9.4, downloading directly from Apple, the system re-install progress was complete but the Thunderbolt Port issue still there.
I connect to the broken Thunderbolt Port with Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, and it works fine, so I believe the only problem is that there is no video signal output from the Thunderbolt Port (near USB port one).
    What should I do now?
Model: MacBook Pro with Retina 13" Late 2013

I can confirm that problem, too: Im' working with a Dell U2713HM display, connected via display port. Since 10.9.4 Update i'm experiencing random black screens and/or display going to energy saving mode. Today i've had this issue twice: Display going black and after disconnecting the macbook von all cables screen of the macbook remaining black. Holding Power Button for about 10 s restarts the macbook. After 5 minutes the same problem appeared again.
