40G ports on nexus 5k

hi all ,
in datasheet of nexus 5k, below is written
Four port QSFP Ethernet module that provides 4 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports using QSFP interface. Each QSFP 40GE port can only work in 4x10G mode and supports DCB and FCoE.
does it mean we cant use 40G ports by themselves, is it necassary to convert them to 10g ?

Add an snmp view or I should say RBAC on Nexus for the specific OID that includes the interface
So in this case look at ifAdminStatus or ifOperStatus for the e1/1 or e1/2
A snmpwalk of ifTable will give you something like:
ifDescr.2 = Ethernet 1/1
ifDescr.3 = Ethernet 1/2
Then you would add it allowing/disallowing polling of the OID ifAdminStatus.2 or ifOperStatus.2 and so on

  • Firewall ports for Nexus 1000v

    hi all,
There is firewall between nexus 1000v and vcentre and ESX 4.1i hosts.
Could u pls advise which TCP/UDP ports to be opened for communication among Nexus1000v, vcentre and ESX hosts?
    Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,

    David,
Between your VSM & VC you'll need TCP ports 80 & 443 open
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0_4_s_v_1_3/troubleshooting/configuration/guide/n1000v_trouble_5modules.html
Between your VEM & VSM you'll need port this should be layer 2 so no ports need to be open.
If you're using Layer 3 mode then enusre you have UDP 4785 open.

  • FC ports on nexus 5548?

Hi, I would like to know how many maximum FC ports can one have on a Nexus 5548 (N5K-C5548UP) without any expansion module? I have the FC_FEATURES_PKG license installed.

    Cisco Nexus 5548UP Switch
The Cisco Nexus 5548UP (Figure 2) is a 1RU 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and FCoE switch offering up to 960 Gbps of throughput and up to 48 ports. The switch has 32 unified ports and one expansion slot.

  • USB port on Nexus 5548UP

    Hi!
I doubted that there is no command "format" in N5K since i want to move a license file from my USB and when i plugged it, N5K didn't accept and keep said that i need to format my USB stick. But there is no "format" command. so, how can use this USB port?
    Thank you in advance!

Hello all ... Did using the FAT16 format allow the Nexus 5k to see the usb flash drive when inserted? I know this was over a year ago, but there is no final resolve in this thread. For that matter ... were we talking a nexus 5000 or a nexus 5500? May not matter ... just checking.
    Thank you!!

  • HDMI port in Nexus 2000

All models of the nexus 2000 has HDMI port
Installation guide says it is for console connectivity. There was no special cable supplied with Nexus 2000.
anyone tried to use that port? I want to what type of cable connector to use to console in to the FEX. Anyone knows what type of cable to use??
I know FEX can be consoled in using attach fex 101 command on parent switch but then what is purpose of this HDMI port.

    Krunal,
It is not an HDMI port, though it kind of resembles one.  This port is utility port used by manfucaturing & TAC.  As the N2K is managed by the N5K which has your traditional console port, it's not necessary for console access direclty to the FEX.  It's stictly for diagnositcs.  These ports are standard on FEXs including the IO Modules within a UCS Chassis.
These cables are not supplied to customer or available for purchase.

    any idea ???
Confused as both switches have same lic installed.
    Thanks in Advance.

After the port type has been changed from Ethernet to FC, the FC port will not be enabled on the switch until FCOE feature is enabled:

  • The management port in Nexus 7k

Is the mgmt port in the Nexus 7K shared by all VDC's? I came across a configuration which looks to be something like that but I just want to confirm.
    Regards,
    Nikhil

Yes the physical port is shared - however there is a unique logical mgmt port per VDC. Which means you configure the mgmt0-interface on a per VDC basis with a spearate IP:
    VDC1
    int mgmt0
    ip address 192.168.1.84/24
    VDC2
    int mgmt0
    ip address 192.168.1.85/24
    etc.

  • Port-channel L2 problem with Fabric Interconnect and Nexus 7010

    Hi,
i using port-channel from both fabric interconnect to N7k with 3 cables per Fabric Interconnect.
but, my problem is when i creating port-channel, Fabric Interconnect don't support mode ON dan rate-mode share in Interface 10G Nexus 7010.
    I was trying :
    1. I using non dedicated port in Nexus 7010.
          - rate-mode share
          - channel-group 1 mode active
          - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was suspended
    2. I using non dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode share
         - channel group 1 mode on
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was came up, but in Fabric interconnect was failed.
    3. I using dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode share
         - channel group 1 mode active
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was suspended
    4. I using dedicated port in Nexus 7010
         - rate-mode dedicated
         - channel group 1 mode active
         - switchport mode trunk
when i using this option, the port-channel in Nexus 7010 was came up and running well.
but, the problem is my costumer do not want using a dedicated rate-mode. if i using dedicated mode the only available port is 8 interfaces instead of 32 ports. i want to using rate-mode share in nexus 7010.
is there any way to configuring port-channel using mode on in fabric interconnect ? i was trying using CLI to create port-channel in Fabric interconect but i cannot configure the channel group protocol.
i attach the topology of N7K with Fabric interconnect.

    Hi Manish,
the issue was solved, i was fix it last week.
    the solution is:
i enable the license grace-priode (since my license is Enterprise so cannot create VDC) then i create a VDC (ex: VDC 2)  so i allocate the interface on all module

  • QSFP-40G-SR4 to four SFP-10G-SR

    Hello,
In 40G QSFP transceivers data sheet, regarding SFP-40G-SR4, Cisco wrote:  "It can also be used in a 4x10G mode for interoperability with 10GBASE-SR interfaces up to 100m and 150m on OM3 and OM4 fibers, respectively."
So, can i connect Nexus 5572UP equipped with "six true QSFP ports" to Nexus 7706 using QSFP-40G-SR4 on the side of 5572UP, and 4 x SFP-10G-SR on the side of 7706? Somehow, i think that this is not possible, but i want to be sure...
    Thanks,
    Wojtek

You can break out the single 40G port into 4 separate 10G ports and use a QSFP to 4 LC breakout cable to connect one or more of the 10G ports to the 7706.  You have to enter the following command to enable the 10G breakout of the 40G port though:
    interface breakout slot <slot #> port <port range>  map 10g-4x
I believe you have to specify the port range as groups of 3 on the 5600 platform and they are on module 2 so the command would look like this:
interface breakout slot 2 port 1-3 map 10g-4x to breakout the first 3 40G ports into 12 10G ports.

    Hi, we have a Nexus 9508 with a 36-Port 40GE module (N9K-X9636PQ).
The servers, with 10GE SFP+ optics, are too far to use the 5m passive breakout cable.
Does the 40GE modules support the QSA module(CVR-QSFP-SFP10G) so that we can connect a 10GE SFP+ optic into it?
We looked at the doc below and it does not mention the Nexus 9508.

    Hi,
You need to configure the 40g port as an individual breakout using the cli command "interface breakout slot 4 port 1-3 map 10" first.
Then you can use single mode optic in the QSA

  • VFC is down Nexus 5020 Nexus 4001i

    Hi All,
I am very new to Nexus 4001 and facing a problem related to its configuartion.
The topology involves IBM HS22 blade server with Qlogic dual port CNA, Nexus 4001, Nexus 5020, MDS 9513 and EMC storage.
I have done the configuration related to fip snooping in Nexus 4k and FCoE configurations in Nexus 5k.
The problem is that i am not able to get the enode mac address when i am running the command "show fip-snooping vlan-discovery".
also i am not able to make the vFC up in Nexus 5k.
I can upload the configuartions if needed.
Kindly suggest your comments or any solution.
FYI: All licenses are installed in Nexus 4k and 5k and FCoE and CNA drivers are installed in IBM server.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sanjeev

If the show mac-address is not showing any src mac being learnt in native vlan indicates server is not sending FIP messages.  The output you provided does confirm this  theory, see the marked output in bold which has value of zero.:

Based on the output you provided it looks to be a CNA issue, the  next step would be working with vendor to ensure Datacenter Bridging is working correctly.  Do you have OS loaded on local disk  or trying to boot from san?

    Think you Jeye
I had hoped for an answer  with  more technical  document than the datasheet because some times we find  in the datasheet  writed 1G for GLC-T and it appears by the table of the  compatibility matrix it can support  10/100/1000 Mbps ; BY EXAMPLE  in the datasheet of Switch 3560 (
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps5528/product_data_sheet09186a00801f3d7d.html) nothing said that the GLC-T can support 10/100/1000 Mbps , you can see only 1000 Base -T But in reality this switch support 10/100/1000 Base T when you looked in the Matrix table  :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html#wp142660
and you can notice  in the matrix nothing special was said about GLC-T with the Nexus 2232

    Hi,
I'm not sure if you already found this, but the first error is documented, for the Nexus 5000 series at least in the System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco Nexus 5000 Family:
Error Message: LACP-3-SYN_COLL_DIS_EN: [chars] : SYNC, COLLECT and DISTRIBUTE flags enabled too early by partner
Explanation: Potential interop issue. Partner system seems to have enabled sync as well collecting or distributing flags too early even before actor has selected an aggregator
Recommended Action: No action is required.
I just love the Recommended Action
The message is indicating that the LACPDU from the server has the Synchronise, Collecting and Distributing flags all set on the first LACPDU it receives. When the link is first established the LACPDU is only supposed to have the Synchronise flag set, with the Collecting and Distributing flags set once the switch and host are sync'd. There's a prety good diagram of this at Networking Bodges in the Bringing Links Up section.
On the basis of this it would seem this is possibly a bug in the Broadcom driver. I see on the Broadcom website that version 15.6.0.10 of the driver is available. Are you able to try that driver on this server?
