500 Concurrent Users: 2 J2EE Servers are enough???

Hello All,
We are planning to build the PRD system for the client on the MSCS Cluster environment. There will be 500 concurrent users and they want to have 2 J2EE Servers.
Now my Question is although there's no Single Point of Failure(SPOF) can we go ahead with the 2 J2EE Servers (I think we should not).
We are suggesting 3 J2EE Servers instead of 2 as the matter of the fact with 2 Servers is, What if one of the server goes down, all the load will be then on the single Server which may not handle all the load and may die too.
So i'm looking for the strong points to convince them for 3 Servers instead of 2.
Any ideas...
Points are guranteed
Vaib

In my experience, a single server with a 1.5GB heap size will handle about 500 - 700 users.  A lot of this depends upon what exactly is going on in the portal.  ESS and MSS will tend to have a greater impact on the portal than BW reports.  I would say that the strongest way to convince them of this is to execute some load tests and see where the limits of your boxes are based upon your specific portal implementation.

  • What are the AM Tuning parameters need to be set for 500 concurrent users

    Hi All,
    We are using JDEVADF_11.1.1.5.0.
What are the exact AM parameters(Pooling and Scalability tab) to be set when we planned for 500+ concurrent users?
Along with this do we need to set any parameters at weblogic server level, if any please give inputs.
    Any input's would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Dinesh

We can?t give you exact numbers as there are many factors influencing the performance. In hte end you have to make a load test to find the right set of parameters. • VSM 7 500 concurrent users reached

    Hello,
This morning when logging into VSM 7 we are getting an error that 500 concurrent users has been exceeded. Which is odd since at most we *might* have a few dozen concurrent users.
Anyone know where to look to see active VSOM and SASD sessions from the CLI?
I'm curious where all these connections are coming from. We did over the holidays roll out a dozen unattended video walls, and since that is what "changed" I'm looking to those first... but it would really help to see sessions so I could narrow it down.
    Thanx.
    Rossi.

Found out from TAC that this is already in the bug toolkit. It is known to happen when connections end abruptly. Workaround for now is reboot the VSOM box.

  • What is the ideal size of hardware for 500 concurrent users?

    Hi,
    I have a DB of 10GB and around 1500 forms/reports,
    400 no of concurrent users.
Can anybody help me in deciding requirement of hardware for db and app.server
    rgd

A lot is going to depend on the type of setup you require. How many servers you will split this up on. What your reports and forms are doing. How your datamodel is set up. How much data you have, etc.
Not sure there is a concise answer to that question.

  • How many concurrent users on a FMS?

We want to stream live Town Hall meetings with the majority
of the users viewing it from our inTRAnet. 320x240, 30fps, Dual 2.8
GHz, 4 GB widows server. Anybody with similiar setup using FIMS to
service 200 or 500 concurrent users? We have two campuses and I
need to know if I will need to spec a second server if we get above
a certain number. How many concurrent users can I supprot with the
    above configuration? Thanks

FMS should be able to handle your 500 clients with no problem
using the configuration you mentioned (some of my apps routinely
see many times more than that on a similar server). I use a
slightly beefier processor in my boxes though... quad core
    Kentsfield Xeon / 4GB ram.
That said, also make sure you have enough throughput at your
NIC to handle the traffic. At 500 concurrent clients, a low
bandwidth stream of 300kbps puts you at about 150Mbps, so you'll
want to run the numbers before you commit to a single serves in
case you can't get enough network juice to a single box.

  • Simple question: No of concurrent users

How many concurrent web based users can oracle 8i/9i personal and standard edition support?

I believe that all depends on the hardware resources you have available. I don't know any 'real' limits on the number of concurrent users. If you are asking from a licensing perspective, that all depends on the kind of license you purchase

  • High txn vol and concurrent users

I have a application in hand which will be reqd to support 100000 txns per day and about 500 concurrent user
. Can BEA WebLogic deliver that. Do I need any tools like Tuxedo etc. Do you have a live project example of this volume done in Weblogic.
It would be nice if U can help me on this

100000 txs per day is about 1-2 tx per second. (unless my math is
off). That should be no problem for WLS.
I would suggest that you talk to your sales representative or
    [email protected] for customer references.

    Hi,
If you portal is shutting down when it is getting a high load I would look at the memory settings defined in the configtool (if you are using a service or the startupframework) or the go.bats if you are running them manually. I would assume that the problems comes from the java process not being able to get enough memory, so try increasing the heapsize parameter Xmx (?)

    Hi,
According to the error message, please use performance monitor to diagnose if it is a memory-related bottleneck and you can use the counters of the memory part in the article below:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.08.pulse.aspx
In addition, it may be due to thousands of open connections to the server are in a TIME_WAIT state. You can run "netstat -an" command on the affected server and client. If you see mutiple connections in the TIME_WAIT state, you can follow the article
to increase the number of TCP/IP connections:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee377084(v=bts.70).aspx
Furthermore, if you are running windows server 2003, please make sure that you have installed the KB 948496 and stop all services that you don't need.
    Best regards,

    Hi SanPSK,
    Thanks for posting here.
I suggest you to check this article for Azure VM size
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn197896.aspx
For the concurrent users on VM - A maximum of 2 concurrent connections are supported, unless the server is configured as a Remote Desktop Services session host.

  • Limit the number of concurrent users

Is it possible to limit the number of concurrent users for the application in Websphere or at the http management level?

You don't say what version of Websphere you are using, but here's how you might limit the number of sessions in Websphere 4.0 Advanced Edition (other versions may differ):
Open the Administrative Console. Go down the tree to Nodes, Application Servers and click on the server you want to control (likely Default Server). In the right panel, click on the Services tab. In that panel, click on the Session Manager Service and click the Properties button. That pops up a new dialog.
Select the Advanced tab here. Put a number in the Maximum in-memory Session Count field and uncheck the Allow Overflow checkbox. Click OK, etc, etc, and you'll probably have to restart Websphere.
I said "might" because I don't know if this will do what you want or not. Read the help file associated with that dialog and judge for yourself.

  • Crystal Reports Concurrent Users Error

We are getting a "Too Many Concurrent Users" error message when our users are trying to run a Crystal Report.  This can happen even when we have only 2 persons on the system.  Is there a way that we can check how many concurrent users there are and who they are ?
We have to keep restarting the Report Server and sometimes the person responsible is not available......
Could it be that the Users are not closing the Report window correctly or something like that ?
Has anybody out there experienced this problem ??
    Ron Smith

    Hello,
Uou can check concurrent license usage by going to the Servers section of the CMC and clicking on the Central Management Server.
The most common cause for this is that users do not log off correctly. i.e they close the browser window instead of logging off. The problem is that there is no foolproof method to determine a browser close (in IE 7+). As a result, the session remains active even though the user has closed the session.
What application server do you use? Is it Apache/Tomcat/other Java application server or IIS/.NET?
    The following thread may help:
    [Infoview - not logging off when browser is closed;
