...probe-scsi-all don't show something related to A1000
iostat works at the operating system level, therefore the A1000 was indeed detected at the ok-prompt, otherwise the device tree wouldn't have been build properly.
Even an A1000 w/o disks should be detected at the ok-prompt. The integrated RAID-Controller is already a device. The installed disks are only detected with probe-scsi-all after being configuring with RaidManager (the configured LUNs are displayed, not the individual disks).
Please check the cable and the HVD-SCSI terminator at the rear of the A1000.
After the A1000 is detected at the ok-prompt advance to the next step.
Check if the 4 SUNWosa... packages that ssteimann mentioned are installed.
The version of RaidManager must match the installed A1000 firmware. If you can login to SunSolve there is a firmware matrix (InfoDoc 43483).
Maybe you should remove these packages and re-install them.
Merry Christmas !
Michael

  • Why the RSC can not found my JRE1.6.0.06 on windows server 2003 ?

I installed the SUN RSC program on my windows server 2003, It required JRE 1,3 or later, then I installed the JRE.16.0.06, I set the JAVA_HOME and CLASSPATH,I can got correct information with java -version commend on cmd,but the RSC still told me that it required JRE 1.3 or later.
    Why ?

We run our Sun V480s and E250 (Solaris 10) headless, and depend on RSC (both CLI and GUI) to access the consoles from Windows.XP desktop machines.
We have been using the RSC GUI from the Wintel boxes quite successfully for several years, and appreciate having the RSC devices in our Sun servers. We rely on Sun's RSC software.
Several days ago we installed the current Sun JRE (1.6.0.06) on the Windows machines. RSC GUI now fails to run on the Windows machines, displaying a message box advising that Java 1.3, or later, is required and directing us to download 1.3 or later.
Since 1.6 is later than 1.3, it would appear that Sun's current JRE broke the existing Sun RSC GUI app.
How could Sun do this? WIll they release a fix?
We will try to open a Service Request, but are having difficulty due to Sun's problems implementing the new Support Contract arrangements, and it is not clear that we can access our support at this time. Sun has physically visited our facility, and given us absolute assurance that they will continue our existing contract for the duration of their difficulties, while simultaneously lapsing our contract when we attempt to access it online. Consequently, we cannot immediately get contractual assistance on this matter, through the normal support channel.
    Thank you.

  • Loading XML files into an 8.0.6 database...

    Hi,
I've got an Oracle 8.0.6 instance (Sun E250 Solaris 5.7) with multiple import data feeds. I am currently using SQL*Loader to load this data which are flat text delimited files. My data feeds will soon be supplying XML files instead of these flat files which is great, unfortunately, I will not be able to upgrade in 8.1.7 in time so that I can use the XML parser.
Is there anyway I can use SQL*Loader or some other tool to load XML files into my 8.0.6 database? If there is a way, could someone please send the information I would need to help perform this task?
    Thanks for all your help...

Check out the Oracle XDB Developer's Guide, Chapter 3. There is an example of using BFileName function to load the xml files from a directory object created using create or replace directory. It works really well.

  • Solaris 10 on 280R with A1000

We have loaded solaris 10 ( 3/05) on our server i.e. Sunfire 280R with A1000 storage connected to it thru SCSI cable. We have addon SCSI card installed in server. Our A1000 is having only one controller.
    Afterthat we have loaded sun storage RAID Manager 6.22 software to configure A1000 , we have made slices using RAID 5 & using RM6 utility. While rebooting the server we are getting following two errors & keeps scrolling on screen for about 10 minutes , though we are able to access A1000;
    1. Warning : mod_load : cannot load module 'rdriver'
    2. /kernel/drv/spark9/rdriver:undefined symbol 'dev_get_dev_info'
Is any solution to above errors? Is any patch / upgrade / firmware etc for above errors ?
Will it recommended to upgrade to solaris 10 or continue with solaris 9. we are using this as a database server with oracle 10G.

FYI, I think Sun discontinued support for the A1000 h/w in Solaris 10... should be documented.
I only mention this in case you want to have Sun support help you... if it works fine, I generally wouldn't worry. But it is a production system, I might have second thoughts about using Solaris 10 with unsupported h/w.
    My $.02, YMMV.

  • A1000 on solaris 10 as a JBOD

I want to upgrade a system from sol9 to sol10, but raid manager is not supported on solaris10
Is there any way I can use an A1000 as a JBOD on solaris 10

So, A1000 cannot be used with solaris 10, I'll stick with solaris 9 then as I have no hardware budget. (unless of course there is a way of changing the controller on the a1000 :-) )

  • A1000 on Solaris 10?

While I've found evidence that people have gotten RM6 (Raid Manager 6.22.1) to work on Solaris 10 which has been upgraded from a RM6-supported version of Solaris, I have not found any evidence of a fresh RM6 install on Solaris 10.
Yes, I know this array was EOLed in 2004, but the thing is still running, so I'd like to use it. I just need to reset the battery age. Does anyone know how to either install RM6 on Solaris 10, or have another way of resetting the battery age on the A1000?
    -- M

To answer my own question - - the RM6 software does work on Solaris 9 and 10, even though the install of the main package fails due to "Solaris 10 being unsupported". After the install you need to remove 2 of the 3 forceloads in /etc/system (leave the SD forceload and remove the other 2) to remove some warnings at bootup. But despite the driver removal and incomplete install, everything works fine.

  • Solaris 10 Install problem on headless E250

I have tried a number of times to get the latest download to install on my headless E250 using the text installer. Most times it installs the 1st cd then reboots only to report that "the file just loaded does not appear to be executable". This is taking the default options, installing the full version, using autolayout on 2x9GB drives.
I've upgraded openboot to 3.30 I've tried installing it on different 18GB drives - I either get the same message, or the boot fails with a read-only filesystem error.
Anyone had similar problems that can point me in the right direction...
    JJ

Anytime i've seen that kind of error is when there is a problem with some settings in the PROM on the system.
If you do your STOP+A to get to the OK prompt.
Next to a 'printenv' a look to see what the values are for 'boot-device' and 'diag-device'. The values normally look something like 'disk' or 'disk net'. If you install the root partition on slice 0 then the value 'disk' is fine, if you install the root partition on slice 1 the the value 'disk:b' should be there.
It might be worth trying a 'set-defaults' which will reset the PROM back to it's default values, and try the install again.
Hope this is of some use
    Mick.

  • Installing 8i on Sun E250 with Solaris 8.. if you did it, tell me how!

I have been struggling with the brand new load of 8i on our Sun platform. It is or was a clean box when I started... and looking through the help, looks like other folks have the same problem I have.
I may be wrong, but the installation document is not the most clear reading document I have ever taken a gander at!
Got the ORA-03114 Can't connect to ORACLE error.
Any help in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated, and of course, I can't pay you with real dollars, but the bows and scrapes I present as you walk by will be unheralded.
    Thanx in advance,
    JB

first rename the downloaded file to 817solaries.cpio.gz thru mv command
    then execute this
    gunzip 817solaries.cpio.gz; cat 817solaries.cpio | cpio -icd
this will unzip your file into Disk1 directory then change directory to Disk1 and execute runInstaller from there

  • Solaris 7 to 8 Upgrade with Oracle 8.1.5 (opinions and issues to note)

    Hi all,
Think the subject says it all..
I have a Solaris 7 server running on Sparc E250 with Oracle8.1.5 on it. It shows that it s a 64bit system when booting up and it uses normal Solaris filesystem setup (no RAID on it) .
If I were to upgrade it to Solaris 8, what are the issues I need to take note.
    Thanks.
    Ld

This could be a big headache....but if there is a need to upgrade your OS from 7 to 8
then you should be ready for a good backup plan....meaning, if something goes wrong at any
point in the process, you could easily revert back to your old system environment.
If I were the one to do this, I will do the following.
    1) I will make use of mirroring. It will be good if you could do it for the entire filesystem
of your OS and your DB.
    2) Once I have a mirror, I will simply detach the other mirror and do my upgrade.
Anything goes wrong, I will simply make use of the other mirror to have my old system back.
When you upgrade your OS from 7 to 8, I had seen lots of problem where it could not complete the
process. And the reason is the size of the Filesystem for Solaris 8 specially the root requires
a big size as to any previous version. i usually just install from scratch. But the problem is if
your filesystem for the OS and Applications like your DB are crossing each other then you may have
to rebuilt your Applications too. Unless you had partition them such that they are totally separated.
When you had succesfully installed your Solaris 8, then your next headache is to make sure
all your applicatiions including your DB will be running fine with the new OS. Usually they
would not as they may need to be patched. So that means you have to check the Oracle websites
as for what are the patches needed to make your Oracle runs properlly in the new OS.
Most important is your backup plan, which is your mirrored-disk of your running environment.
Also you have to make a Plan of everything. Doing this will really take a lot of time.
Good luck. I have done this before.....I'm pretty sure you could do it.
just remember , your back-up plan should always be available anytime.

  • Installing Solaris 7 - timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet

I'm attempting to install Solaris 7 on and E250. I'm using HyperTerminal connection via a null modem cable. I boot up the server and I see various harware init processes echoed to the terminal and then I receive this error: Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
I have connected the nic card to a network connection.
    any help would be appreciated.
    Steve

This is because you HAVE a network connection. You can resolve this with 1 of the following 2 methods:
    A:
disconnect the network cable and reconnect when the installation process gets to the prompt for hostname.
    B:
    1. Get to the OK prompt
    2. setenv diag-device disk
    3. reset

Has anyone ever seen this before? Anybody have a clue as what to look into?
Also, this box seems to be very slow in performing relatively simple commands. It gets hung up on "format" and "pkgadd". So it appears that anything I do which may affect or use the kernal hangs for a long period of time and then most times the system reboots.
    Please help if you can.

I'm not quite sure what the error is about, but check the version of Solaris your running on the server. If it's less than Solaris 8, check that the server was built using the "Special Operating Environment CD".
This CD has to be used when installing solaris 2.5, 2.6 or 2.7 ( I think ) on the new hardware like E220, E250, E420 etc.

  • Sun Ultra 10 with SunStorEDGE A1000/D1000 unable to setup

I realise this covers old ground but I have not been able to trace a uitable resolvement and would be grateful for assistance.
I have a Sun Ultra 10 with 256MB RAM and 440GHz cpu.. It has a pci Adaptec 2944UW HVD SCSI interface card. The storage system is a tray of eight scsi 72GB disks housed in a D1000 case. NetBSD reported it as an A1000 SunStorEDGE at sd0 having 16 targets and 8 luns. However NetBSD did not have a readily available controller to setup the raid system so I installed an alternative. I presume the case is a reused old case housing an A1000 unit.
I tried to format the drives directly but they are not lists as devices such as ct1sd1 etc. and so this is not possible.
I have installed Sun Solaris 10 but could not communicate and reported inability to use rdriver and rdnexus and after reading a number of reports that driver hooks had been removed from the kernel in Solaris 10 I have installed Solaris 9.
On both occasions I installed a number of RAID Manager 6.1.1 control packs, namely SUNWosafw, osar, osau, osamn and vtsse direct from my CD here.
I commanded dr_hotadd.sh to take up the challenge but it failed to communicate.
I added a number of Rdac amendments to rparams in /etc/osa but this did not resolve the issue.
I have tried to call probe-scsi-all after doing a reset-all from the OBP but this fails to report anything. I presume this is because the unit is connected by the interface card rather than a direct scsi disk.
    dmesg pipe grep scsi reports:
    unknown scsi sd0 at uata0 target 2 lun 0
I would be very grateful fr guidance to resolve this connection so that I can create a suitable filestore.
    Thanks
    c

I presume the case is a reused old case housing an A1000 unit.If it's really an A1000, you won't have access to the drives. You'll only see exposed LUNS from the raid controller. Do you have a dial in the rear with a scsi address? That will be the address that the A1000 will respond on. In addition, the A1000 has only one pair of SCSI ports. The D1000 has two pair and doesn't have the scsi adress dial (because each of the disks in the chassis respond on their own addresses). Instead you have some DIP switches to change the addressing behavior.

You can ignore them. Neither the A1000 nor D1000 require those drivers. You should still be able to use 'rm6' or the CLI tools to interact with an A1000.

    dmesg pipe grep scsi reports:
unknown scsi sd0 at uata0 target 2 lun 0So that might be a single LUN from an A1000 controller. If the selector switch in the back is set to '2', then it's even more likely.
