Account hacked or phishing attempt

Hello all,
I just got a couple of e-mails, supposedly from Apple, about my Apple ID.  The first said my billing addess and credit card had changed, and the 2nd was a bout a purchase I didn't make.  I logged on (not using the links from the e-mail of course), and checked my billing address....it's all the same as before.  How can I tell if a purchase was actually made, and if so if my credit card was used?

Apple actually does send out email like that when something different occurs on your account; bank card is changed, a purchase is made from a different computer, etc. But if there is no such change, perhaps it is a phishing expedition.
To see your purchases, open the iTunes app and in the iTunes Store sign in to view your account and check your Purchase History. There are invoices for every purchase made in the iTunes Store, iTunes App Store, iBookstore and the Mac App Store.
Check with your bank about recent unauthorized use of your bank card(s).

  • Phishing attempt via email.

I've just received an email from ''[email protected]'' telling me that my iCloud has been frozen and to click on a link on the email. The email has no Apple or iCloud branding included which made me very suspicious. Also I've just checked my icloud account which is not frozen. Just wanted to send a note out to warn other icloud account holders. I would also like to send the email onward to iCloud but cannot find a contact/ support email address... If anyone has contact details would gratefully receive them.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message to Apple.

  • Account hacked, credit card used and cant get acce...

    Hi,
I have had my main account hacked again for a second time and cannot get access back. I just got some skype notifications that there have been 12 purchases made in China on my acount. I cannot recover my password as it never sends me the recovery email. I do get the emails that someone is making purchases on my skype account but I cant seem to do anything about it.
The account receovery asks me when I opened my skype acount and I have no idea. I lost access to this account so long ago that I have given up getting it back but just got a second bout of transactions .
Can anyone help me with this please?

Hi, Bronsonlb, and welcome to the Community,
It appears to me that you have created a new Skype account as you posted your enquiry here on this message board - use this new account to contact Skype Customer Service to report the fraudulent use of the other account, to request alternate verification details to confirm your "ownership" of the other account, and to remove saved payment details.  I would not recommend choosing the "account recovery" path as you have previously attempted.
If you can recover the account, so much the better.  If not, request the account be removed.
Last and certainly not least, report the unauthorized purchases to the issuer of the payment method on file.   The charge-back process will likely trigger Skype to suspend your first account.
    Regards,
    Elaine

  • Just received a Phishing attempt for Quicktime 2009 How do I report?

I just received a obvious Phishing attempt email just hovering over the link has nothing to do with apple. And to beat it all I use a Mac and its for the windows version.
I'd like to send the email to an abuse or spoof@ address to apple. I hate stuff like this.

If this email came via a MobileMe account, you can report it to [email protected] You can also try [email protected], though I don't know if that is still a valid email address (reports are that it was at one time, but I haven't sent any message there myself).

  • Phishing attempts to steal Verizon users' e-mail passwords

For the 2nd time in a week an e-mail got past Verizon's filters and into my Inbox. Both were phishing attempts.
The first time I called Verizon because I didn't know of an e-mail address to send it to and the person at the other end didn't sound very interested but indicated that Verizon knew about it.
Here's the text (I'll leave out the link, which begins with econtact dot verizon dot com:
    Dear Verizon Internet Customer,
At Verizon, we continue our efforts to enhance your online experience as well as ensure ongoing security for our Internet customers.  As a result, Verizon Online has modified the way email is handled when sent or received through an email application other than MyVerizon.
If you only use MyVerizon to access your email account, no action is required and you may disregard this email.  If you do, however, use other applications to access your Verizon email, such as Outlook Express®, you will need to modify your email settings to take advantage of enhanced security we now offer.
In order to make these modifications, please visit ...://verizon.com/emailsettings for information about the  email settings you need to update.  Additional information may also be available by going to our online forum at ...://forums.verizon.com/.
Thanks for being a valued Verizon Online customer and we encourage you to act now to ensure your email account has the proper settings on a going-forward basis.
    Sincerely,
    Verizon Online

It you are not sure if something is a phishing email or not, NEVER click on the link to go into your settings.
Just log into your account manually without clicking clicks, and udpate your settings to be safe.  That way you know you are not going to a phishing site.

  • Account hacked and Paypal account charged

My account was hacked and charged. I changed my password but I still see new calls to India. Well done Microsoft!

Same case here. Account hacked around End of April 2013.. and Calls made to India, Pakistan and Cyprus.
Were you able to get credit back. Any help on how to restore the account?
Skype's Customer Service sucks - It is pretty shamefull that a voice telephony company can not put its customer service on skype voice call... and instead using chat only function.

My skype account hacked today and charged 25€ and dropped 5€ before i change my password.I deleted all credit card infromation after that. All calls going Tuvalu.
Can skype refund my money ?

I think you can contact customer service for further clarifications and advice.  However, I'm not certain if they are offering refunds in cases of hacked accounts.

  • BT email accounts hacked

    Hi
I run a computer support business and over the last few days over 60 of my customers have had their email accounts hacked and spam email sent out to everyone in their address books
I have virus scanned most of the computers and all are clean - so it appears the webmail password was hacked and someone gained access
This happens quite regularly now with BT - but I don't see it hardly ever with other email providers and I have a lot of customers
What is BT doing about this -as I have a lot of angry customers who are ready to leave BT and go elsewhere if you cannot improve your security!
I know in some cases it is not always your fault and down to customers choosing stupid passwords, but not helped when your helpdesk resets passwords to things like welcome1 or london12 and the customer then never resets them (when threy should be forced on first login to change them)

    Hi.
Have you asked these "customers" if they have received anything recently, or clicked on anything not expected ? Do they all use the same things like facebook or other social sites ? Are they connected in anyway, or have they just come to you for help ?
If I may be frank, why did they come to you initially rather than contacting the free BTinternet helpdesk ?
Webmail password change is the same for all ISPs, not Yahoo! specific. If the helpdesk gives the user a new password, then really it should be down to the user to make sure they alter it themselves. Clearly people don't do this, but even if the helpdesk said to do it - some people will still not do this.
You say you don't see it hardly with other email providers, that implies that it does happen. What other mail providers for example ? BTYahoo! is one of the largest in the UK, so it's not unlikely that more would be seen than for some other ISPs.

  • Account hacked (email changed)

I received an email titled "We've updated your email address". this mail told me that my previous (the correct email) -snip- has been changed to (hacked email) -snip-.
I keep seeing messages saying to go to https://support.spotify.com/uk/contact-spotify-anonymous/ but this is wrong because I entered my problem there in the text box and sent it and it reported "We'll get back to you at -snip- as soon as we can." so it isn't anonmous at all and now the hacker has possibly a few more details about me.
There seems no clear way for anyone to report this issue, what do I do now ?
You should be notifying people that your service has major security breach issues, this is not just a random person who has guessed my password..you (spotify) have been hacked and someone has taken my details from you.
I have been a paying premium member for many years with you and i'm not happy about this one bit, can one of your staff please tell me exactly what I should now do to get this rectified.
    Regards

Update: Spotify got back to me and over the following couple of days my account was restored, so different email and passsword on the account so fixed basicaly. BUT !!! Yesterday I look at my playlist and find things I have not added !! I delete them, I changed the password on my account after disconnecting all devices from my account.
Today I start playing music and it cuts out, I click "choose device to play on" only to find there is a mobile device playing music that is not in my playlist.
What is going on ? This is not my end, I have not had my emails accounts hacked..spotify has been hacked or there is some majot security flaw in the software, I also KNOW this as fact because since this happened a little research and web searching I discover public/private forums selling spotify acccounts. pic attached is the person/persons using the account I frikkin pay for !

  • Account hacked over the weekend

My iTunes/Apple account was hacked over the weekend. Someone overwrote all my information with someone else's and purchased 2 gift cards. Contacted support but was given the answer that it was a "fluke" where someone overwrote my account by using the same email address. If that is the case then there are problems with the system. They also claimed in their response that there was no reason to believe malicious intent was involved. hmm. .. .
My bank verified that an attempt was made to use my credit card, but it was denied since the card was replaced recently (fortunately).
I have provided support with the receipts etc. but have had no further response. I have asked them to conduct an investigation and verify with the other person whether those charges were "legit".
Anyone else have this problem and have gotten any resolution with Apple Support?

I think it's great that Apple is seemingly fine with staying completely out of this epidemic.
Granted, some people may have fallen for a phishing scam and unknowingly gave up their password. I'm not convinced that's happened to everyone, though, and I know that didn't happen to me when this went down last week.
Something is faulty with the iTunes program or its encryption. Something is faulty with iTunes CS for not even attempting to remedy this problem. In my case, in the sent to field for this gift certificate, there wasn't a recipient name: it was my PASSWORD. Why would I willingly send someone a gift certificate and just leave my password in there?
As PayPal will not do anything either (surprise, their CS at least has a bad reputation that precedes them, unlike Apple) I now have to go to my bank. Chances are I'll close my PayPal as well as buy my songs elsewhere from now on.
