  • Acrobat can't access shared review data on WebDAV

Now I'm trying to setup shared review environment using WebDAV.
but, only when i use acrobat on MacOSX, can't access review data.
when i use windows this problem doesn't happen.
Does anyone know the any of reasons, workarounds?
    * Environment
    DAV Server : Apache 2.2.3 (mod_dav, mod_dav_fs) on CentOS 5.6
    Client : Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Acrobat : Acrobat Pro 10.0.0
    * Repro Steps
    1. Open Safari
    2. Access to WebDAV Url
    3. Acrobat (plugin) on Safari seems to open pdf file correctly, but error dialog is appeared.
dialog says "can't connect to ... (in Japanese)"
    * Additional Info
I can uploaded pdf file to WebDAV folder with this(MacOSX) client. (use Shared review wizard of Acrobat)
I can access review data when I use Windows(XP Pro, Acrobat X Pro and Acrobat Reader X 10.1.0)
WebDAV server 100% passed litmus(server protocol compliance test suite)
       litmus : http://www.webdav.org/neon/litmus/
This problem occured both of via http and via https.

A similar issue was fixed in Acrobat 10.1 patch. Download and install the patch from Adobe website and see if your issue is resolved.
I installed Acrobat Reader 10.1.0 on the above Mac (I didn't apply the patch). but the same problem reproduced with this Acrobat Reader.
( get the Dialog box which says "Acrobat cannot connect to the Review Server ..." )
Then I changed the following preferences, This problem has not been solved yet.
    1. Security(Enhanced)
Add webdav host to Privileged Locations.
    2. Trust Manager -> Internet Access ...
Click 'Change Settings...', then Allow webdav site address.
    I verified the followings.
    1. MacOSX Safari can't access to PDF(Shared Review) properly.
After the installing Adobe Reader 10.1.0, while loading pdf, progress bar of Acrobat Reader Plugin began to not progress (not finished to open).
When I open the PDF(not for Shared Review), Reader Plugin can open it correctly.
(I verified Safari's installed plugin setting for pdf  is "Adobe Acrobat Plug-in, Version 10.1.0")
*I verified the following 2-4 with Firefox on MacOSX.
    2. I checked http access log (of webdav server), but there are no access logs from (MacOSX's) Adobe Synchronizer.(I verified this when the firewall of MacOSX was disabled)
    3. Access to PDF file is working properly (Acorobat Reader on MacOSX can display PDF (but shared review data are not)).
    4. When I accessed from Windows XP(Acrobat Reader), like the following http access log has been recorded.
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - suda [22/Sep/2011:15:41:55 +0900] "GET /webdavtest/2/413/1/NEW_0003_review.pdf__735c6012134e4f9f9fbdebb4b9029b39/masao.suda.at.i nteraction-i.co.jp.xml HTTP/1.1" 304 - "-" "Mozilla/3.0 (compatible; Adobe Synchronizer 10.1.1)"
It seems that Adobe Synchronizer on MacOSX (Adobe Resource Synchronizer) doesn't work properly.
In the previous post. Once I (and my co-worker) verified this was solved certainly.
I found similar issue (  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/850377 ). was this problem solved?

  • Acrobat could not access the recognition service

I am getting the following error message when attempting to use the OCR function in Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3
Acrobat could not access the recognition service:
Unable to locate the Paper Capture recognition Service. Your installation may be corrupt.
This is probably due to either a low memory situation or an corrupt installation. If the problem is not cleared up by shutting down other applications and/or rebooting, then please re-install Acrobat.
It is certainly not a 'low memory situation'. It is not a 'corrupt user profile'. It was not fixed by uninstalling and re-installing.
    Help...

Just to be sure, you are trying to use the OCR that is part of AA8 and not the OCR service that is an online service? I think the latter was setup for use with AA8 Std. What menus and selections are you making to get OCR?

  • Acrobat could not access the recognition service when OCRing

I am getting the error message "Acrobat could not access the recognition service because unable to locate the paper capture recognition service." I get this message when trying to OCR documents. I tried the fix for Acrobat 8 where you copy the drsd832.dll file and this still didn't work. I also tried turning the security (enhanced) settings to 'off' which also didn't work. I was wondering if any of you have encountered a similar problem and have found a solution. I am getting this problem in a networked corporate environment on multiple computers. It is also happening to files on the network rather than files on the local computers.

If anyone has a similar issue I found this on the Adobe forums where a similar crash was occurring on printing in Creative Suite 4 ...
To avoid this crash  try this workaround.
remove adobe PDF PPD from the following folders:
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_CN.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Ja.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/ko.lproj,
    OS/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/Zh_TW.lproj,
I have removed the ppd's folders (although retaining the en.lproj folder seems to be OK) ... per above and now I do not crash when accessing the preference I need to get to.

  • Acrobat Shared Review: Access Denied?

One of the guys on our network is on a Mac, the other two on PCs, and we all have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. He is trying to send out a shared review, but whenever we click the link to the review in the "Please join this shared review" email, we get a popup message saying Access Denied.  If we navigate through all the folders to find the file manually, we can open the file, but the link will not work.
One thing I did notice is that when he sends out the email, his link is slightly different from ours; it starts out with "smb:".  What's different about the way his reviews are coming out, and how can we fix it?  Thanks in advance for any helpful input!

Try to edit the smb: link as mentioned below and then try to open it from a windows pc.
    1) Replace smb:// with \\
    2) Replace all the / with \
The way we access the network folders is different for win and mac and hence the difference in the path. So the link generated from windows machine will not be directly accessible from a Mac Machine and vice versa. A work around can be that when you send the shared review, choose the option to send as attachment after the server selection step. In this case the file will be attached to the email that is sent out and hence there will be no dependencies on the path of the file.
    Thanks,

  • Acrobat XI ocr: access hidden layer?

    Hi all,
I have historic documents (German and English) that I want to OCR so that the text is searchable *without* changing its appearance. I've tried with previous versions of Acrobat where it did not quite work and thought I give Acrobat XI (Windows 7) a try.
I use "searchable image" in the correct language ("Clearscan" and "exact" are not useful here). The ocr'ed text is in a hidden layer. Since an old-fashioned font is used, the ocr result is expectedly faulty. So I need to correct those results which is where the problems arise. The little sub-menu allows me to look for "problem areas" which are then marked in red. The individual entries can then be corrected one by one. However, these changes do not always seem to be transferred to the hidden layer. This is evident either from trying a search for the term (ctrl f), or exporting to Word. Both yield the original, not the corrected, ocr result.
Second problem: Once I mark a problem area as solved, there is no way to access that word, other than starting all over again.
Third problem: The keyboard shortcuts in the submenu don't always work.
Improving the scan quality is no solution because some older characters have no equivalent anyway.
The only solution seems to me to access the hidden text in some way and edit directly there. I did not find any mentioning of that in Acrobat's help or the forums, however. So I expect it's still not possible?
(As an aside, I'd like to submit the problem to Adobe but don't know how)

What you're asking for is not currently possible with the native tools in the Acrobat Family, but could be done with plugins.
When you run Searchable Image on a file, the text objects created on the page have a tag that sets their text rending mode to 3 (which tells compliant PDF applications that they are invisible but selectable - in effect they have no active stroke or fill). Acrobat doesn't let you change the text rendering mode, but there are third-party 'COS editor' plugins (Google for vendors) which can change any tags in the file stream. As you don't have any 'real' text in the file, the pseudo-workflow would be to search and replace the "/Tr/3" tag with "/Tr/0" so the text is visible, do your editing stuff, then reset it.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 Accessibility Issue

I have an existing form that was designed in Adobe Pagemaker 7 that includes check boxes (wingding font). I've converted it to a pdf using Distiller 7. I open it using Acrobat Pro 7 and then run the Full Check tool for Accessibility I get the following:
15 words(s) that contain characters with no reliable mapping to Unicode.
    No Unicode for characters
I have the fonts installed locally:
    C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\WINGDING.TTF
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
    Thanks

The important thing is that the document actually _is_ accessible.
That doesn't necessarily mean blindly eliminating all of the messages,
it means understanding the messages you do get, and deciding which
ones affect your technical/statutory requirements. Or so it seems to
    me.
It doesn't seem likely that there is a Unicode value for "check box",
but even if there was, I don't see any accessibility benefit here.

  • Acrobat X Pro:  Accessibility Report says No Alt Text for image but there is

I have added the alternate text for images on my pdf but the accessibility report is still giving me errors stating that there is no alternate text.  Does anyone have any idea why?  I have checked and the alt text is there.  I don't understand this.
    Thank you.

I assume when you click on the error it is taking you to the location where the error is.  Not seeing the document it is hard to tell... do you have a multi-page document and when you click on the error does it take you to the location where that problem is?
There are several things that could cause this problem.  The Figure or other tag that contains the alt text must have content. It cannot be an empty tag.
It also cannot have another Tag inside of it containing the content.  There must be some actual content directly within the Tag with the alt text, not nested inside another Tag, if that makes any sense.
Or, there may be another Figure Tag that has no content. That, too, will generate an error.
If neither of those suggestions work, if you post the file I can probably find the problem.

  • Acrobat Tab for 64 bit Access

I have the 64 bit version of Office 2010 installed along with Acrobat 10.1 Standard. Is there a COM Add-in for the Acrobat PDFMaker for Access 64 bit? The add-ins seem to work for the 64 bit versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook but not for Access. Seems odd they they would make support for everything in Office 64 bit except Access.

  • Access 2003 crash with Acrobat 9

    Hi,
If I run Acrobat 9 Pro, close it, and then double click a MDB file.
Access 2003 will not open the MDB file NOT until I open Task Manager and
click the "Acrobat.exe" process and end it. Right after I end the
"acrobat.exe" process, Access 2003 will open the MDB file right away.
Same thing when I try to restart my computer. Windows will say the
"acrobat.exe" is not responding. I need to end the "acrobat.exe"
process before I can restart Windows.
    And idea?

Yes. There are a number of new features available with Acrobat 9, many of which are covered in the following:

  • How do I create an accessible PDF for Thesaurus with many chapters, from InDesign CS 5.5 and Acrobat

    Hi folks,
I have redesigned a Thesaurus (controlled vocabulary for an Agency's archives) in InDesign CS 5.5. I am now preparing an accessible PDF from the many files (using a Book created in InDesign). The front cover, front matter and back cover are not part of the Book, to keep the page numbering simple.
The Book includes two main sections, an Alphabetical display and a Hierarchical display of terms and their relations. I created chapters per alphabet listings, i.e. Alphabetical Display A, B, C, etc. So there are over 50 chapters, including cover, front matter, etc.
I've successfully made the front cover and front matter PDFs after viewing videos here: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/accessibility-adobe/preparing-indesign-files-for-accessibility/ and downloading and using this recommended Action for Acrobat: InDesign CS5_5 Accessibility Touchup.sequ
Several questions specific to this project don't seem to be addressed in the videos, however.
First, I'd like to know if I can create an accessible PDF using the Book function > Export Book to PDF. Or do I need to make a PDF per chapter? The book has over 50 chapters (by alphabet, twice), so creating them one by one will take a lot more time, but I'll do it if that's the best practice.
After creating the PDFs, if I use (in Acrobat): Create > Combine Files into PDF to make one full PDF (over 600 pages BTW), will the final PDF retain accessibility settings? Do I need to run the Accessibility Report again for the combined PDF?
I used InTools.com Power Headers plugin to add a page header that automatically shows the new first term used per page. So, one chapter (with Chapter Title as H1) will have a different page header (which will be H2) per page, however the text flows through the whole chapter. I don't see where to add the page headers to the Article Window in InDesign. Do I add in this order: H1, H2, text (for whole chapter), H2, H2, H2, etc. Will I need to work on the PDF in Acrobat, where pages will be shown, in order to get the correct H2 with the correct text on the page? Am I missing something?
Will I have any issues with Bookmarks that requires a specific workflow?
I think that's about it, though I might run into more questions as I progress through the project.
    Thanks, Marilyn

I understand why you need updated running headers in your book. To a sighted reader these serve as a guide to where you are and help you find things quickly.  In addition, if you are exporting your data to XML or HTML from the tagged PDF it would also be important to have these in the proper location.
But for accessibility purposes, it doesn't have to be there because the screen reader reads everything in linear order, line by line.  No one is looking at the page.  A user listening to the screen reader read the page is going to hear this heading, just before the actual word itself. So they will hear the first word on the page twice.  It's not the end of the world if it's there, but such headings are not necessary for accessibility unless they are not repetitive and contain information that is not otherwise available.
So I would say, fine if you need them or want them there, it's just one word.
I think you should try exporting your book to PDF (or even just a chapter of the book) and look at the tags panel in Acrobat to see if you are getting the result you want.  I can't tell you exactly what you should do to get those results, you are using a plug-in I don't have.
I can tell you I didn't have to add the headers to any article at all, they just automatically export if the other articles in the file are added and you don't select the header style option "not for export as XML."
You may not experience the same results with your plug-in, but I think it will probably work the same way.
Give it a try and best of luck.

  • Accessibility Tags - What to do with Table of Contents & More

I am looking for some help and advice regarding tagging a PDF document for accessibility using Acrobat 9 Pro.
Until now, the most I've ever done with Acrobat is create the occasional straight-text document and a few simple forms.  But my boss has asked me to tag a programming manual for accessibility and I'm a little lost.  There are a lot of both images and code samples in this text that I have no idea how to work with because the automatic tagging seems to have gone haywire.
I downloaded the Acrobat 9 Pro Accessibility Repair Workflow document and have done the following:
Determined that my document is not a scanned document.
Determined that there are no forms or buttons in this document.
    Set the language to English.
Set the document security to "no security".
Determined that the document has bookmarks.
Determined that the document is not a tagged document.
    Run the Accessibility Full Check.
This is where I ran into problems--both because of the nature of the document and my own ignorance of the "making accessible" process.
My table of contents is split up into multiple areas shown as tables but the individual items in the table are irregularly identified--I have no clue how to get them to appear correctly.  Any tips would be appreciated.  Should the Table of Contents even be a table?  I know it's called a table, but it has multiple levels and I'm just not sure what to do with it.
There are also several tables in the document.  They appear mostly OK, but Acrobat seems to think that the tables are made up of individual figures and produces "No alternate text for Figure" errors on some of them.
Finally, how on earth do I do text flow on code??  The code is all text, not images.
If anyone knows anything about this whole accessibility thing I would greatly appreciate your input.
    Thank you!
    Jenn

It may actually be faster to save it as a DOC file. The formatting may get messed up, but fixing that may be faster than doing all of the tagging you need to do. At the end, you have a document that can easily be modified in the future and recreated in PDF form. The long-term workflow should be better. My guess you will find that setting up a style sheet in WORD (or using an existing one) will be easy to use in addressing the issues. When I think of setting a bookmark in some location, I think of the work in setting just one bookmark manually in Acrobat. I think that WORD would actually be easier if the file transfer is readonably. Worth a try anyway.

  • Acrobat X Pro won't save document b/c it thinks a file is already open, but it isn't

I get an error message when I try to save a pdf. It says that it couldn't save the file because it is already open, but there's no other pdf file open.
What is causing Acrobat to think that more than one file is open when there is only one file open?

    No, I'm running Windows XP.
The only thing open is Acrobat and the explorer window box that appears when you want to save a file.
It appears to me that Acrobat is still accessing data from a file that was previously open but is no longer open.
How do I make it so that Acrobat sees only the file(s) that are actually open and not files that have been closed?
My only way to work around this problem is to completely close Acrobat and then relaunch it in order to do what I need to do. Very inefficient.
