Actiontec mi424-wr rev. F jtag header

iam trying to find out the jtag header pinout for the new mi424 rev F router I have found several post online about older rev but none on the newer rev F.  Below is the info about the rev F board.
There are three header connectors on the board:
one labeled J7 that is populated with 6 pins
one labeled J6 that is unpopulated 6 pin
one labeled J2 this is unpopulated 14 pin
any ideas which is jtag and if so what the pin out is all i really need is to know correct location I can figure pinout.
any help would be great thanks

you can ideally set up the Netgears by disabling all of their routing functions, such as the Firewall, UPnP, DHCP server, etc, and then taking the connection from the Netgear's WAN (Internet) port and instead connecting it up to the LAN port.
If you are connecting from Actiontec LAN to Netgear WAN, you will need the routing functions including DHCP server enabled in the Netgear.
@OP  - If you want your devices to be on a single network, I do not recommend the Actiontec-LAN to Netgear WAN configuration.
Follow the instructions here to setup the first Netgear.

Rinse and repeat for the second router, using 192.168.1.3 for it's IP address.

Windows 7 doesn't either.  Corrupted disk indexes and something broken in startup.  Luckily system repair fixed the startup issue and several hours of disk activity straightened out the indices.  More of an issue is the disappearance of all my usb 2 ports.  Luckily still have 2 usb 3 ports so have a kb and mouse again.

  • Replace Actiontec MI424-WR Rev C with Rev F

I am considering the purchase of a new Actiontec MI424-WR Rev F router, in order to get Gigabit ethernet and Wireless N.  Is it possible to replace my current Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424-WR Rev C without involving Verizon support?  Can I just release the lease on the old one, then plug in the new one?  Do I need to clone the mac address of the old router to the new one?

That's what I suspected.  The one I was thinking about getting is offered on ebay, not as an auction, but as a "buy it now" item.  They claim it is new and in the original sealed box, and it looks like they have more than one of them.  Probably "fell off a truck", so I'll steer clear of it.

  • Bridging Actiontec MI424-WR Rev E Router to NETGEAR WGR614 v9 Router

I would like any information on how to succesfully bridge the MI424-WR Rev E router to the NETGEAR WGR614 V9 ROUTER.
I would also like it to keep On DEMAND features, as every time I attempt to fix this bridge, I lose all widgets and on demand.
The reason for my switchover is because the router provided with the verizon fios, is just awful. The signal strength is terrible, and although it is a G class WiFi router, the NETGEAR router which I am switching over to, is also a G CLASS router and can keep FULL SIGNAL throughout the entire house, where as the VERIZON PROVIDED router, loses a bar as soon as I step out of the bedroom door. That is LITERALLY 6 feet away.
If I can't switch it over succesfully now, the only other option is to switch to cablevision, due to their competitive internet speeds and the fact they supply you with a free N GRADE router.
Please help, it's an utter pain.

  • Basic Questions on ActionTec MI424-WR Router - problems with poor download/upload speed

First, I will get to the point and ask my questions, then will explain what's happening - I'm interested in hearing whether the right actions are being taken to solve my problem.
    1) After perusing the forums, I see frequent reference to the "Rev" version of the ActionTec MI424-WR Router.  How do you find the Rev version?  I have logged into the Router and in the "System Monitoring" icon, the Router Status lists my Hardware version as 'A'.  Does this mean I have Rev 'A'?
    2) What is Verizon handing out these days for Routers?  Mine is being replaced, and I am wondering what to expect.  I have Verizon FIOS Phone, TV, and Internet service, and have the 25/25 Internet service.  Will they give me another MI424-WR?  If so, what Rev level are they likely to give me?
Here's why my router is being replaced - opinions/comments/advice welcomed.
For the past year or two, I've consistently measured (via speedtest.speakeasy.net) about 30Mbs download, and around 22-25 Upload.  Lately, I noticed that my downloads were quite slow, so I tested my speed at the above website, which I had not done in many months.  I measured only about 2-3 Download and 1-2 up.  Note all of what I am discussing hear takes place with hard-wired ethernet, NOT wireless.
I tried testing from multiple computers, running XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  All getting consistently similar poor speeds.  I verified my account still is supposed to have 25/25/ service, which I verified online.
Tried rebooting the router, no change.  Then tried hard reset (pushing in the recessed button, holding it for about 20-30 seconds.  After it reconnected to the Internet, I tested speed again.  No change.
Interestingly, I tested wireless speed on the laptop I have.  Speed is MUCH better, around 15 down, and 10-12 up.
I tried the speed optimization tool on two of my PCs, it made no improvement.  Finally, got into an online chat with a Verizon Tech.  He did some tests on the line, we repeated some of the things I already tried, and then he asked how old my Router was...I am pretty sure it is the original one I received when I first signed up for FIOS, around 5-6 years ago, which is one of the reasons I asked how to tell which rev level I had.   So the tech concluded the problem was probably my Router.
I TEND to agree, especially because I recently had an "anomaly" on my network.  My son complained one day that Internet was down.  When I got home, I found out my NetGear Gigbit switch was dead, and two of my hard-wired ethernet network printers could no longer talk to the network.  I replaced the switch, so now I am thinking perhaps the Router was damaged somehow.  I have no idea what the cause of this anomaly was - everything that connects to my network was plugged into Triplite ISOBAR surge protectors, but that only protects AC power.
I would think a hardware failure would completely kill the ethernet portion of the router, not simply reduce speed, but I could be wrong.  Anyone been through something similar to this before?  I expect to receive the new Router next Thursday, so hopefully I should know by then, but still - what should the next steps be if the new router does not fix the problem?
Thanks for any comments, insight or shared experiences you might be willing to share...

    This is embarrassing.
Smith6612, you are absolutely correct, and you nailed it!
When all this mess started, I checked my Verizon account to make sure I was signed up for 25/25 Internet.  I was.
I don't know what has happened, but after reading Smith6612's response, I went back to recheck my account.  I was set up for 15/5!  So, the speedtest measurements I have been getting the last couple of days are exactly what I should be getting.  Two possibilities:
    1) My Triple-Play bundle must have expired in the past two weeks by coincidence.
    2) The Verizon tech may have changed my account profile when I worked with them online last week, although this was never discussed.
At any rate, Smith6612 wins the prize.  It certainly explains the download/upload speeds I am getting.  I have logged into Verizon and signed up for a new bundle.  According to their website, my new profile should take effect Tuesday 1/10, so after that point, I should be measuring 25/25 again.
Thanks to all who responded to this thread.  I will update this thread to confirm after Tuesday.  I get nervous whenever I have to change anything with Verizon - although everything has worked fine for the past few years, we have so many services with them - Cell Phone, TV, Internet, and Home Phone, that I worry something will go wrong with the billing, but we'll see.

Can I expect performance improvement over Rev. E?
Maybe, depending on what devices you need to attach wirelessly. I have an Actiontec Rev. D and replaced it with a Rev. I, and the speed was pretty much the same. But the Rev. I came set for WPA2 in B/G/N compatibility mode, I changed that to WPA2 N Performance Mode with AES encryption, and the speed went way up. Of course this change eliminated any B/G wireless connectivity, so I have my old Rev. D connected to one of the LAN ports on the Rev. I and use that for an old laptop that does not have an N adapter:
Rev. I is on the bottom, Rev. D top.
If you have only N devices you should be able to get a significant speed increase by making the changes I mentioned above.

mi424 wr rev I keeps disconnecting slingbox 350 after 48-55 hrs. If I unplug the ethernet cable from the LAN port on the router it will work again only temporarily. I can't access the slingbox from outside the LAN. I just says "connecting" and is being blocked by the router.yet it is working for a few days before disconnecting. Help?

ok i set the lease type to static on the slingbox. why does it say that the lease type will expire in 1439 minutes? Also the andriod phone shows up on the "my network" screen on the router. Does that need to be assigned a static lease also? I need for the router to allow the andriod phone to have acess outide the LAN when i am using wifi or 4g data when away from my home.
Because its PSEUDO static.  Actual static requires purchase of static addresses from your provider (i.e. Verizon) and is usually only used by businesses.

  • What do 802.1 p priority settings in Actiontec MI424-WR do?

We are having some throughput issues with devices connected wirelessly to our Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424-WR router.  I noticed a page in the router's advanced settings with a bunch of priority settings.  I have never touched them.  They are numbered 0-7; 0-3 are set to low, 4 & 5 are set to medium, and 6 & 7 are set to high.  Does anyone know what they do?

cdrinkard's summary is very good. 802.1p has to do with preferences for how packets are delivered (quality of service) and traffic shaping, not wireless standards.
One caveat you should remember - if you turn on 802.1p you'll probably only get much benefit if all of your other switches on the network also support it. Think of it like a "tag" that is attached to the packets that fit the criteria you set.
It can make some difference with how your router manages its internal queues of packets, but where it really comes in handy are environments where the whole LAN is busy and you need to make sure that certain services or hosts don't experience a lot of delay (latency) or jitter (variability of latency).
If you have other switches, they need to be able to read the tag on the packet as well, otherwise all of your packets get tossed back into the same bucket. Do NOT just set everything you find to the highest number and expect that to make a difference - you'll just be back where you started. The whole point is to differentiate services from each other. Just remember that you can't ever add to more than 100%.

  • ActionTec M1424-WR Rev F Router USB port

Does anybody know if Verizon ever plans to support the USB port to connect prionters, hard drives, etc?
The Verizon Installer hooked up my printer to this port, then called me from his truck after leaving my house to tell me that it wouldn't work!
Last traffic i saw on this from the verizon forum was related to Rev E firmware in March of 2010 (almost 2 years old) that says that they "don't ever" plan to support it.
    Thanks!

I've heard rumors that the latest version of ActionTec's firmware is supposed to add USB Functionality to it. Perhaps when Verizon gets the firmware, they may start pushing it out with USB support. Hopefully it requries nothing more than basic Samba shares. Don't need to install crappy, proprietary software to do file sharing over a network.
But yeah, otherwise for now the ActionTecs just give power via the USB Ports. Nice if you wish to have a light or something in a networking cabnet via a USB LED Light, but that's really it.

  • Actiontec MI424WR Gen3 Rev.I - Firmware 40.21.10.2

    Greetings:
I contacted Actiontec for the official release date of Firmware 40.21.10.2. They indicated that it was released at end of October 2013. Does anyone know or have any experience when Verizon began updating its Users after they receive it from the MFg? Does Verizon release it a month later after certification tests? Was it mid- to late November perhaps?
According to Actiontec, they are only a hardware Mfg and that Verizon creates the Firmware. I was on Verizon Chat and they (Efrain) told me that Actiontec created the Firmware. My only concern is that I would like know what date my Router was upgraded to see if it coincides with an issue I am having. Thanks for looking!

I have 40.21.10.2 on my Actiontec Rev. I. I do not know for sure when my router was updated, I don't really pay any attention to that kind of stuff, but I just checked and the router says it has been active for 801 hours, 28 minutes, which is somewhere around 33 - 34 days. So early Nov. it appears for me.
What kind of issue are you having? I have a pretty simple setup - 3 STBs, 2 Ethernet connected PCs (1 via coax and NIM), 1 Android phone, 1 iPhone, and one Android tablet. But all work well.

  • How set configure a static IP address correctly on Actiontec MI 424WR rev F??

I just got a new Verizon/Actiontec replacement router and I want to configure 4 or 5 static IP addresses beginning at 192.168.1.201  and above.
At this point, I have changed the DHCP range from 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.250, to  192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.200, so that is now the DHCP pool.  That presumably leaves anything above 192.168.1.200 open for static IP assignments.
    a) So now  how do I create a Static IP reservation for a device? (what router screens should I use? do the device(s) that I want a static IP have to be connected?, etc.)
    b) Once I have the static IP address reserved/configured, how can I make the appropriate port forward rule(s) for the devices?  Specifically, I want to allow SSH connections to each of the static IP addresses/devices.
(I tried this once but the router complained after I made the first port forwarding rule saying that it was already in use!?!? and I want to avoid this problem again)
    Thanks

  • Port Forwarding for L2TP/IPSec VPN Behind Verizon Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 Rev. E v20.21.0.2

I've got a NAS setup with various services running on custom ports to help minimize exposure (especially to script kiddies). I've tested everything both internally and externally to confirm they all work, and even had someone at a remote location confirm accessibility as well.  Port forward configurations performed on the Actiontec are working well.
I installed an L2TP/IPSec VPN server, tested internally and it connected successfully.  So for all intents & purposes, this validates that the VPN server is correctly configured to accept inbound connections and functioning correctly.
I logged into the Verizon Actiontec MI424WR router, setup port forwarding for UDP ports 500, 1701 & 4500.
Note: I added the AH & ESP protocols based on what I saw on the built-in L2TP/IPSec rules
With the port forwarding in place, I tested VPN externally but it didn't connect.
I've done the following so far to no avail:
Double & triple checked the port forwards, deleted & recreated the rules a few times to be sure
There are no other pre-existing L2RP/IPSec port forward rules or otherwise conflicting port forward rules (e.g.: another rule for ports 500, 1701 or 4500)
There was an L2TP port triggering rule enabled, that I toggled on and off with no change
Verified the firewall on VPN server had an exclusion for L2TP, or that the firewall is off. (Firewall is off to reduce a layer of complexity, but it worked internally to begin with so I doubt that's the issue.)
Since it works internally, and there are no entries in the logs on the device indicating inbound connections, I'm convinced its an issue with the Verizon Actiontec router.  But unfortunately, I'm not sure what else to try or where else to look to troubleshoot this.  For instance, is there a log on the router that I can view in real time (e.g.: tail) that would show me whether or not the inbound connection attempt is reaching the device, and whether or not the device allowed or blocked it?
    My router details:
    Verizon Actiontec
    MI424WR-GEN2
    Revision E
    Firmware 20.21.0.2
Verizon Actiontec built-in L2TP/IPSec rule templates.  They're not currently in use, but are baked into the firmware for easy configuration/selection from a drop down menu.
