Activation date keeps slipping

Hi,
I am getting increasingly frustrated at the lack of information being given by BT in respect to FTTC. My exchange at Aberdeen Portlehen was meant to have been activated almost a year ago and I am still waiting.
Whilst I appreciate there are technical challenges associated with a roolout of this scale I did register for updates from BT some one year ago and have not heard a thing from them.
I di resort to getting in touch with my local councillor who has chased up a response from BT, sadly the response still does not provide a firem date for cabinet activation. Appearently there are 5 off cabinets to be hooked up to this exchange and three of which are already up and running. This does beg the question, why is the site now saying that the activation of my cabinet (Cab 4) has an activation date of 30/6, surely it does not take 4 months to hook up one cabinet. Please BT can you please answer when I will get a connection and when someone registers for updates is it not too much to ask that regular updates will be forthcoming.

Hi tyco091162,
Have you been using the BT Wholesale Database with your landline number/address to see if WBC FTTC is available to you?
Your exchange Aberdeen Portlehen is FTTC ready and Accepting Orders in some places.
I see you say it now says 30-June-2013, this could have been changed to this date due to many reasons.
This is also a estimated date and could also be a "placeholder" date as it is at the end of the month.
There can be many reasons for the delay.
Some problems that can cause delays are:
1) Local council planning permission rejected or delayed.
2) The cabinet is not suitable for FTTC broadband
3) There isn't a adequate power supply
4) Health and safety issues
5) No ducting or inadequate ducting
plus lots more.
The build of the fibre broadband infrastructure in the area isn't always easy and can be very complex.
Individual FTTC cabinets that have been tempted to be installed but have caused a delay or there is a technical problem can and will be skipped if an unforeseen problem occurs, eg collapsed ducting, failed planning permissions etc. Those problems that can be resolved will be at a later date.
Before a FTTC Cabinet (DSLAM Cabinet) is activated and ready for use it firstly needs to be installed and then tested. This process can take upto 2 or 6 months, however if there is a delay then it can take longer.
Also when you go to http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ and enter your POSTCODE into the map and a yellow Pin appears next to your address then there is a known delay on installing/ activating your FTTC cabinet and will give some more information about the issue if you click the yellow pin.
Unfortunately BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP who operates this forum) does not have much say as to when and if you will be able to get FTTC or FTTP/H based broadband such as BT Infinity.
You can keep checking the BT Wholesale Database and BT Infinity website for the most upto date information as these are updated regularly.
The openreach When and Where website is: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
**The Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs.
BT Retail (a communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.**
Hope that helps,
Cheers

  • BT Infinity Roll Out Dates - Keep Slipping - Why O...

I have been waiting for the roll out for 4 months now. When I checked the availability in May the telephone number checking program  said it would be available on June 30th. Then a few days before this date it slipped to September 30th. Now a few days ago it went back to 31st December. Why does this keep on happening ?

i have the same problem - even brought a super-duper-new win7 4core computer a month ago as my old xp 2xcore one may be too slow to cope with infinity.
it is either the demand they have for those who have infinity, or they are sending too many engineers sorting out the problems with the current system, and would not cope with the demand. on reading the other forums on here, i would say the latter is more apt, even if moving people to infinity may cure theother problems.
welcome to the world of last wednesday week.

  • Need suggestion on Active data guard or Logical Stand by

    Hi All,
Need a suggestion of on below scenario.
We have a production database ( oracle version 11g R2 ) and planning to have a Logical standby or physical standy (Active data guard). Our usage of the standby database is below.
    1) Planning to run online reports (100+) 24x7. So might create additional indexes, materialized views etc.
    2) daily data feed ( around 300+ data files ) to data warehouse. daily night, jobs will be scheduled to extract data and send to warehouse. Might need additional tables for jobs usage.
Please suggest which one is good.
    Regards,
    vara.

    Hello,
In active dataguad Whig is feature from 11gRx ,
If you choose active dataguard, you have couple of good options, one is you can make a high availability of your production database, which can act as image copy of production, as you are asking in 11g you have more advantage where you can open in read only mode and at the sometime MRP will be active, so you can redirect users to connect standby to perform select operations for reporting purpose. So that you can control much load on production ,
Even uou can perform switchover in case of role change, perform failover if your primary is completely lost. Also you can convert to physical to logical standby databases & you can configure FSFO
You have plenty of options with active dataguard.

  • Activation date passed, still no broadband...

    Hi
I've been patiently waiting for over a month for my installation of BT Total Broadband & Calls Option 3 in my new property. My Activation date came (Thurs 24th March) and I hadn't heard anything by 1.30pm despite my engineer visit being scheduled between 8am and 1pm that day. I rang BT Customer Services and was lucky enough to get somebody in the UK who told me an engineer was working at the exchange as we speak, great...
At around 6pm I plugged in my router which had arrived that day only to find my Broadband light was off. So I waited until after midnight as instructed but the Broadband light was still off this morning after a reboot. I rang Customer services again but this time was put through to what I assume was an Indian call centre. They were very polite but I was on the phone for over an hour, being put on hold for 10 minutes+ several times. After an hour of waiting they told me an engineer was on his way today which I was unaware of as my activation date was yesterday. I cannot understand why it took an hour to find out that an engineer was already on his way. I had specifically taken a day off work for the engineer visit yesterday only to find that they were coming today. Right after speaking to Customer Services an Openreach engineer rang to say he was on his way and would be 10 minutes, luckily my girlfriend was available to let him in and he carried out the work.
I was happy again and thought BT had almost redeemed themselves until I got a call from BT half an hour after the engineer visit saying the telephone line had been activated but there had been a delay with the Broadband and a review was scheduled for the 29th March!
I am absolutely appalled at BT's exceptionally poor 'Customer Service' and am seeking advice on whether I can cancel my broadband order now seeing as it has not actually been activated yet and in my view they have breached their own terms in the contract? I would like to keep the landline but order broadband from a different provider. Having researched this issue on the internet I have found this happens to a vast majority of people, what are BT playing at?! If BT are messing me around like this before my service has even started then I dread to think what lies ahead.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am in desperate need of a broadband connection in the new property. Am I entitled to any compensation for wasting a holiday day and giving me constant false promises, and how would I go about claiming this?
    Thanks

  • Activation date pushed back twice

    Hello,
I recently moved into a new flat and told BT 4 weeks in advance that I will be moving and I was told the line would be activated on the 27th of June. That day passed and only the phone line was activated. I called up and was then told that there was an issue with activating Infinity broadband so they gave me another activation date which is today. Today I called just to check if everything was fine and after about an hour of waiting in queues I was told that the order got "lost in the system" and that a new activation date has been set for the 16th of July.
Is this normal? How many times can they push back the activation date? Im considering cancelling my contract as it's becoming more and more frustrating. Can I cancel my contract if they haven't provided me with the full service?
I depend on the internet as I work from home and I've pushing back deadlines as I can't work properly without it. I already spent £80 on topping up mobile data and I just can't afford to keep working like this.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone give me some advice?

activation is by openreach who own the lines so regardless of ISP apart from cable you will need openreach to install/activate your connection.
as this is a residential line and is not supposed to be used for business purposes albeit many use it for checking business email and casual business use.  there is therefore no consideration about loss of business.  did you consider a business line which would give you a better level of service guarantee

  • Active data guard - patching

    Hi Gurus,
I have primary db amsprd and active data guard amsprd_stby.
we are planning to apply application patches in amsprd. earlier we used to rely on rman backup for restore in case of any failures.
I would like to make use of standby as primary and keep the business up immediately after application patch failures.(to reduce the downtime - application failures are not having any rollback steps :-( - vendor product).
    to achieve this,
    before application patch application
do i have to just stop the log shipping?
or do i have to stop just log file apply?
what are the steps involved in case of primary applicaiton patching failures.
    Thank you.

So the Application Patch may turn out as a "Logical Mistake" from the Database perspective.
One option would be to stop the Apply on the Standby Database. If your Application Patch was no good, you could do an "Immediate Failover" which will open the Standby immediately without applying the received redo first like an ordinary Failover would. You would have to create a new Standby Database on your Ex Primary site then.
Another option would be to turn on Flashback Logging on both sites. If your Application Patch was ok - nothing to do. If not, flashback both sites to before the App Patch. Look here for an example:
    http://uhesse.wordpress.com/oracle-database-ha-architecture/2010/08/06/using-flashback-in-a-data-guard-environment/
Second option has the benefit that you do not delay an emergency failover, should your Primary incidentally get destroyed during the App Patch. Also, if you need to rewind the Logical Mistake, you do not need to recreate the Standby completely. If you are on 11gR2, you can even turn on/off Flashback Logging without having to restart:
    http://uhesse.wordpress.com/2010/06/25/turning-flashback-database-on-off-with-instance-in-status-open/
    Kind regards

  • Configurations for extracting portal activity data from netweaver portal.

    Hi,
I need to fetch  the portal activity data from the portal into Solution Manager. I would like to know the configurations on the portal that will be needed in order to extract the portal actvity data . How will i proceed extracting the portal activity data?
    thanks and regards,
    Divya.

    Hi Divya,
We can not say that Early Watch Alerts is same as the  the portal activity report.
Its a diagnosis service, for the solution monitoring of SAP and non-SAP systems
in the SAP Solution Manager. Its gives you the complete details of your System.
If we talk about Portal then you can get the details like :
    1. Java Heap details
    2. Memory Uses
3.Portal Objects access details (Like Activity report )
    4.Server Nodes details
       and many more things.................
The Underlying concept is to ensure smooth operation of individual SAP Systems
by keeping you informed of their status and allowing you to take action,
    before severe technical problem occurs.

  • Activation date: March 19th and still without broa...

    Hiya,
I'm really fed up now. I placed an order for phone and broadband on March 10th. I received BT hub after couple days but I haven't got any confirmation about activation date at first. Then I was told both will be activated on March 17th.. On March 17th I called customer service and I was told there's a problem with my order, no wonder.. Until then I haven't even gotten a phone number.. Finally someone from customer service was able to tell me what my number was but I was told I must wait 48 hours to get it activated..
Next day I received an email with completely different number and activation date scheduled on March 19th.. This was just ridiculous! But I waited until then just to find out that they activated only phone. I keep calling customer service since then and every time I hear the same story: there's a problem with the exchange, they will activate it but I need to wait 48 hours! I'm not even talking about false promises that someone from technical team will get in touch with me!
I'm really fed up right now and so close to cancel whole thing! I've never experienced such a bad customer service and I've never been that ignored in my entire life!

Hello Joapoa welcome to thre Forum I wish it was in more positive circumstances.
This sounds like a really disapointing and frustrating experience. I appreciate you have said now that you have cancelled your order and could as we speak already be with another provider.
Should you wish to place an order again I would like to help. If not please accept my apologies for the experience you have had.

  • Co3 error activation date has passed

Hi all I'm having problems with vision everytime i reboot the box that was delivered yesterday i get the c03 error i tried calling call centre there usless keep saying i promise it will come on it takes time but my activation date has now pass im starting to wish i never left virgin now any ideas how i can watch tv

    Hi,
    1. A C03 error means your Vision account has not been set up correctly at BTs end.
    2. A c02 error means the box tried to upgrade its software and failed. This 99% probably happened because of point 1.

  • Activation date / time

Not an urgent message, more of a general query.
My home hub arrived as expected this morning at 8am but the line has still not activated to enable me to use the phone or broadband. Today is the activation date given and I know it can take up untill midnight before I can connect.
I was just wondering if other people could remember what time theirs activated on the day. I'm supposed to be going back to visit family this week but can't set off untill I've set the broadband up as I'm house sharing but it's all been done on my name.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

Once they're set and ready simply plug the hub into the phone socket (using a filter)
Why do people say that ?
An ADSL router doesn't need a filter - if you don't absolutely need one, you're better off without one.
The ADSL socket on a filter is an unfiltered connection.  The only use for a filter, as far as a router is concerned, is to allow it to be plugged in to the same socket as eg a 'phone.
    Hi Ian
Well I learn something new everyday
I was only going by what BT say in their BTHHv2 user guide:
Page 4/57 - Unless you already have ADSL filters plugged in from a previous broadband service, fit an ADSL filter to every phone socket that you use in your home. Sockets could be used by telephones, faxes and digital TV boxes (e.g. Sky®). These devices need to use a filter to prevent interference with your broadband service.
Page 5/57 - Using the broadband cable (grey ends), connect your Hub to an ADSL filter, then connect the power cable.
If there is an ADSL master socket then (Page 9/57) - "Q I have an ADSL master socket. Do I still need to use ADSL filters?
No. When you get to Quick Start guide step 4, you’ll simply plug your broadband cable straight into the ADSL master socket’s DSL socket.
However if the customer isn't using a BT router - (Page 31/57):
What to do if you’re using your own router and have a problem
The following tips may also help:
    • make sure you’ve ADSL filters fitted to all the phone sockets on the
    broadband line
    • try swapping the ADSL filter your router is plugged into with another, in case
    the filter is faulty
    • if you’re using an extension socket, check that it’s working, i.e. plug a phone
into the phone socket of the ADSL filter and listen for a dial tone
    • if you’re using an extension lead or extension socket, try connecting your router
to the main socket. If this works, it may mean you’ve a problem with your
    extension wiring or extension lead.
Hopefully BT can change this accordingly. A quick internet search did give me the following info:
Why splitters / filters are needed
When ADSL and PSTN work at the same line at the same time, the electronics inside a normal telephone can be problem for high frequency ADSL signals: the ADSL signals can be attenuated (high capacitance on telephone input, possible resonances inside telephone, impedance mismatch) and ADSL signals can be heard as noise on some telephones (phone electronics demodulates high frequency signal outside it's operating range to voice frequency noise). In order to keep these systems apart and stop them interfering with each other it is necessary to separate the two components from the telephone line in your home.
This is where the Filter / Splitter comes in. The ADSL POTS Splitter / filter allows taking the full advantage of the 1.1MHz copper line frequency spectrum, by stopping the telephone and ADSL systems from interfering with each other.
An ADSL filter is normally a small plastic box with a short lead that plugs into your phone socket and two outputs, one for your ADSL Modem and another for a telephone. Some filters have only one telephone output in them. ADSL filter select the band of frequencies for each of the outputs, phone or ADSL, and send just the correct band to the appropriate socket. The phone output gets only telephone frequencies (from DC to 3.4 kHz) and the ADSL output gets the higher frequencies well (above 25 kHz).
For good system performance it is very important that all your other telephony equipment is separated from the ADSL signals by the use of a splitter / filter -- this equipment includes telephones, answering machines, "normal" computer modems, etc, etc.
But thanks for letting me know that one doesn't absolutely need one. The OP did mention that he couldn't use the phone or broadband as it has not been activated yet so I only replied with what I thought I knew would be best for him.

  • Activation date far away. Anything I can do to spe...

    Hi all,
Just finally got round to signing up to BT Infinity and really looking forward to being able to download games in minutes rather than hours.
But the activation date is mid-September and I'm impatient!
Is there anything I can do on my side to speed things up at all? Or is the activation something that is done on the exchange side and so I simply have to wait for BT to get down there and sort it out?
    Thanks!

you simply have to wait and keep everything crossed that openreach make the estimated date
