Adobe X Pro vs Adobe X Standard and Javascripts

Hi, I'm running into a problem.  I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro on my computer at work, however, I'm finding that my field personnel have Adobe Acrobat X Standard.  I've written some javascripts on a form to automatically calculate when a number is entered into a field.  I'm finding that the form works fine for the folks with Adobe Acrobat X Pro, but does not work for people with Adobe Acrobat X Standard.
Is there a specific reason for this?   I've been going nuts trying to find out why this is happening.  I even created the form in Adobe LiveCycle ES2 and the form still will not calculate for those that have Adobe Acrobat X Standard.  In addition to that, it doesn't work with Adobe Reader either.
Anyone has any idea why this is happening?
(I'm going to post this same message over in Adobe Acrobat in case I've put this in the wrong spot.)
Thanks
Connie

There is no difference in the JavaScript that is used and available to Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Professional. Adobe Reader cannot use specific features of the Acrobat JavaScript extensions like using JavaScript to add a form field. What is different between Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Professional is being able to access the document level JavaScript editing through User Interface, UI, of the program.
The application preference for allowing JavaScript is the end user's choice. You can use a page open or document level script and a field, layer, or comment to check if JavaScript has been enabled. You can create a read only field that has a message that "JavaScript needs to be enabled". The field should be read only and visible. Then you can use a script like:
his.getField("MyJSWaringingField").display = display.hidden;
To hide the field upon opening the page or the PDF. The field will become hidden if JavaScript is enabled or remain visible if JavaScript is not available or not enabled.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pdf Conversion

I am not sure I am in the correct forum, but I recently purchased Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and I cannot convert existing Word files, for example, to pdf. A message comes up: "PDF Conversion Failed." And that's it. No explanatory message or suggestion how to correct it.
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you!

Try these steps to see if things are working at all. If they work, then it is a process of going one step at a time until the problem is isolated.
    1. Print a simple file to the Adobe PDF printer with print-to-file selected.
    2. Open the file created in (1) in Distiller and see if the conversion completes.
If (2) is unsuccessful, you will get errors in the Distiller window indicating the problem. With success, the next step is to check if AcroTray is running, so simply print without using print-to-file. If it does not work, then look for AcroTray.exe in your Distiller folder. This application must be working if the print to Adobe PDF is to work correctly.

  • I have recently installed Adobe XI Standard and it continues to lock up and close down the product?

We originally had Adobe 9 Standard installed and it never locked up, but with the newest version it appears to be a daily occurrence that it will lock up and shut down the program.  I have uninstalled the program completely and re-installed and that did not solve the problem.

Do you get the opportunity to see the complete error send data to Microsoft via an error dialog?  If so you can grab the Windows Error Log and post it here on the forums.

  • Is there Adobe Flash player and JavaScript for iPad

I want to watch a tv episode. Told needed adobe flash and JavaScript.  Are these available for iPad?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash. Adobe is not providing Flash for Apple iOS devices, and they no longer provide Flash for any other cellular phones. Flash is officially gone.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
A sample of Apps that can display some Flash content:
      1. Puffin
      2. SkyFire
      3. Photon Flash
      4. Browse2Go
      5. Swifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro - dialog prompt when opening PDF from Internet Explorer 9

    Good morning.
I am having an issue where our ends users that have either Adobe Acrobat X Standard (AAXS) or Adobe Acrobat X Pro (AAXP) cannot open a PDF within Internet Explorer 9 without being prompted by a dialog box to OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Our user that have Adobe Reader X (ARX) only are ok. The ARX users can click on a PDF link within the browser and it will automatically open in a new tab. However, the AAXS and AAXP users will click on that same link, but are then prompted with a dialog box to either OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Has any one else seen this before? We would like it to be so that all users - no matter what Adobe PDF program they are using of the 3 mentioned - can open a PDF link by just clicking on the link and no additional dialog options appear.
The ARX users have the same Internet settings within the Adobe preferences as the AAXS and AAXP users. The check box is checked to have PDFs open within the browser, which they do, but that dialog box always appears for AAXS and AAXP users. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across something today after posting. I had already known that If the ARX user also had one of the other products (AAXS or AAXP), then they would get the dialog box. Here is what I just figured out: if the user uninstalled ARX and re-installed (still having both ARX and AAXS or AAXP in the end) then they no longer get the dialog box. It seems like perhaps its an issue the AAXP and AAXS are overwriting something in the registry.

  • I have Adobe 9 standard and was told to refer that you need the link to download

I have the disks for Acrobat 9 standard but need the link to install it on a new computer I recently purchased.  Can anyone help me?

There is a download at Adobe Acrobat X (10) Pro, Reader, and Suite Direct Download Links | ProDesignTools for Windows (way down the page). You can also take your disks to your local library and copy them to a memory stick in most cases. Then use the memory stick. USB DVD drives are relatively cheap and that is another way to use the disks. Of course, you could then watch movies or play your CDs on your computer and such.

    Hi margueritem,
What browser are you trying to download from? Please make sure that you're signed in as an admin, have virus-protection disabled, and try using a different web browser. You can also try downloading directly from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X - Adobe
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Adobe reader version and javascript

    Dear, all
We met a lot problem while trying to distribute our interactive form
the form contains some javascript logic, and it works perfectly on our own machine.
but on different users machine ,with same pdf reader version and os version ,the javascript behave differently , some of them even donot execute any javascript at all.
we try to upgrade their java runtime, but the problem still there.
could you pls tell me what would be the reason for that?
and do you have some practical methods to prevent this happen when distributing interactive forms?
    br.
    zj

    hi Jun Zhang,
I faced a similar problem, and after much work around realized that it is the Adobe Version on the users system which influences the behaviour of the JavaScript or FormCal scripting.
You may refer the  SAP Note 834573, for further reference.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 and Javascript

Please let me know if anyone has ever successfully used Javascript within a Captivate 4 project.
I do not know Javascript, but inserted the code, "location.reload(true);" with the hopes to refresh the current page of a Captivate 4 project loaded in our LMS.  When I did this, it seems to refresh the page as I need, but then it bounces backward one slide and when I click again it does the same thing.
Is there Javascript I can use to refresh the page and then have the project continue?
My project is such that when I run it in my LMS I get to the first question on a quiz slide, the letters A,B,C and D appear for my multiple choice answers, but the actual answers do not.  If I refresh the page, the answers appear.  I would like to have this page automatically refresh when it gets to this point, so the user will not have a need to do this or even be aware it has happened.  Is this possible?
    Thank you,
    David Gambal

    Hi David
To refresh the slide, java script is location.reload(true)
    No commas, no fullstop
If you want to test the same, create a blank slide in Captivate project, In Slide Properties on slide exit >Execute Java Script >Browse > in Java script window type
    location.reload(true)
    Hope it helps
    Thanks VJ

  • Standard and Pro versions compatible with Windows 7

    Hello
I am looking for a list of Adobe Acrobat Standard and Adobe Acrobat Pro that are compatible with Windows 7. We are upgrading over 1000 computers to Windows 7 and we have many different versions of Adobe Acrobat writer Stndard and Pro.
    Thanks

There are also issues with 32 vs 64-bit systems. The latter requires updating your version in general. Generally the initial releases have not worked in the 54-bit environment. There are many driver issues with 64-bit systems and probably should look carefully if 64-bits are needed. The 64-bit system is useful if you are computationally focused, but may not be much of an advantage in standard office environments. Just be careful. If you are installing OFFICE 2010, then you need AAX for PDF Maker compatibility -- prior versions of Acrobat only allow printing from the OFFICE 2010 suite. Some folks have been successful with AA8 on 32-bit Win7 (I have only seen 1 post that would suggest success with 64-bit Win7). Prior versions of Acrobat can be made to work on 32-bit Win7 systems, but require work arounds (i.e., the AcroTray tool that automates the conversion to PDF process fails in Win7). The 64-bit system will probably fail for most of the earlier versions in such cases.
Realize that you may have to deal with Win8 shortly that has it's own issues.

  • Adobe X Standard Navigational Pane

I am in the process of purchasing Adobe X, and need to see if the Navigational Pane works the same way in Adobe X Standard and Professional.  With Adobe X Standard, are you able to have two pdf's open at the same time in seperate windows, and drag and drop between PDF documents?  Also, would PDF documents saved in Adobe 9 Pro be able to open and be edited (drag and drop pages) with Adobe X Standard?
    Thanks

Can someone by chance try this today with Adobe X Standard?  I need to get this ordered this afternoon if possible.
    Thanks!

  • How do you get create a portifolio in adobe xi standard?

I need to combine files  and have to use a portfolio in order to send them to another person.  I have  Adobe XI Standard and there is NO create portfolio in the menu.

You need Pro to create a Portfolio. An alternative is to attach files to a main document, which is possible with Standard.
