Airport utility logs (v6.3.1)

Where are the log and connection information screens?
I need to see which MAC addresses are attempting connection and what IP addresses have been issued.
Why does this update break these useful parts of the Airport Utility?

Howdy: If any of your Leopard computers can get to the AEBS with Airport Utility you can check your AEBS settings and update them if required. If not, then I would (did) trash com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist found in your Home/Library/Preferences folder and Restart. If that doesn't work, hard reset the AEBS (unplug and move them the other base stations close to your AEBS so you can work on them) The hard reset is done with a paperclip–find the little dot near the ports, depress it for 10 seconds. Restart the computer and launch Airport Utility. If you now get the AEBS then double click the image. This puts you on the Summary page. Click the Base Station radio button and look around for the choice to Restore or Setup the AEBS. If you Restore, look through each setting afterward and check them for accuracy. Then, plug in the other base stations and hard reset them. Use Airport Utility and double click each found WDS Relay and check the settings and lastly each Remote. If you only have 2 base stations then the AEBS will be the Main and the Airport Express will be the Remote. Don't forget, if you need the Airport ID's, they are on the Summary.
The "everything delayed" may not have anything to do with the AEBS. When you do the restart above, try making a Safe Boot. This skips your login items on the Preferences/Accounts
If you get the AEBS set, then you may wish to check Software Update–you may still be shy an Airport Utility or AEBS firmware update.
I am certainly not a guru. If one of the Top Users weight in on this I suggest you follow their lead.

  • Does airport utility have logging capability?

I would like to troubleshoot a problem that has arisen with my Windows XP box connecting to an airport to print to a usb printer attached to the airport (it suddenly stopped working after flawless use for a couple of years...and the only software update to the box has been iTunes). Does anyone know of a configuration option or command line switch that I can use to get ANY logging information from the airport utility, bonjour or even the Windows system layer so that I can at least see where it might be failing?

To access the logging feature of the AirPort Utility, just do the following:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Advanced > Logs and Statistics > Logs

  • Setting up airport express with airport extreme 802.11n with Airport Utilit

    Hi,
I'm having trouble setting up my airport express(AX). Having recently bought the new Airport Extreme (AE) basestation, I can't figger out how to set it up to recognize the AX and allow me to stream airtunes. Previously I had the AX setup fine, but once I installed the AE, it no longer was recognized.
After resetting the AX, the airport Utility recognizes the AE and the AX as basestations, but I don't want to have to switch back and forth from wireless networks everytime I want to listen to music in another room. Airport Admin seemed to have been wiped out when I installed the AE, so any documents I've found on the Apple site refer to AA and not Airport Utility.
HAs anyone set up their AX on the new AE basestation?
    thanks!
    Rene

I am currently experiencing the same issue, except that I cannot for the life of me get the AX to:
    1) Stop flashing yellow - numerous resets -soft to default.
    2) The airport utility will not recognize it.
The airport utility sees the AE no problem, I got that up and running after a few restarts and am now able to log on to the network with my laptop.
I am new to Mac's and this is the 1st time I have tried to set up a network with one, I was excited about being able to use the AX to play my iTunes through the stereo in the other room and to hopefully use it to connect my X-Box to the internet. But I am starting to think that this is either above my skills or a fruitless endeavor. Any help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks
    Fairbanks

  • How to use the "identify" feature in new 6.3.1 airport utility?

how to use the "identify" feature in new 6.3.1 airport utility?
so you can find the basestations in larger networks?

There is a workaround, which is to use Airport Utility 5.6.
I can confirm that 5.6 will run on 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, it will recognize the new 2013 Airport Extreme Base Station (A1521) running firmware 7.7.1, and it will give you access to view the device's Log & Statistics, DHCP Clients, and Profiles.
    Four caveats:
    1) The easiest way to install it is to download the app itself, not an installer or through the App Store. There is a page here where you can download the app: http://coreyjmahler.com/2013/03/08/airport-utility-5-6-on-os-x-v10-8-mountain-li on/ This way, you still have both versions, Airport Utility 6.x.x and 5.6.
    2) When you launch 5.6, you'll get a message saying a newer version is available and asking if you want to update. Click Cancel to proceed into the utility.
    3) When you click the Manual Setup button in 5.6, you'll get a warning dialog that "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility." You can click Continue to get into the utility without issue.
    4) You should probably only use 5.6 to view the additional status details. I have not tried to modify and save any AEBS settings using 5.6. There are other discussions here in the forums indicating that attempting to save settings via 5.6 that are no longer available in 6.3.1 will not actually save the settings to the AEBS even if both utilities indicate that the settings are changed. See https://discussions.apple.com/message/22677993#22677993
So, even though you can't use it to modify settings no longer available in Airport Utility 6.3.1, using Airport Utility 5.6 to view DHCP clients, Logs and Statistics is very useful for troubleshooting network issues.
PS - There are two ways to get to the DHCP Clients list, neither of which is obvious The first is to go to the Airport pane -> Summary tab and click on the "Wireless Clients:" label in the Summary display. All of the labels from "Wireless Mode:" down on the Summary display operate as links to view/edit the corresponding info/settings, which is also not obvious at first glance. Also not obvious, clicking on "Wireless Clients:" actually brings up a new pane with three tabs: Logs, Wireless Clients, and DHCP Clients. You can also get to the same pane by going to the Advanced pane and clicking on the Logs and Statistics button.
I hope this is helpful information. Took me a while to find out how to do this.

  • Back to my Mac, NAT, CTU setup, Airport Utility

I've used Back to my Mac from home to access my iMac at the office in the past, but after the Yosemite update, I am not seeing "Shared" listed in the SideBar of Finder Windows anymore, and I also get the following warning in System Preferences > iCloud > Back to My Mac:
Set up router for better performance.
    Clicking "Details" yields this message:
Back to My Mac may be slow because NAT Port Mapping (NAT-PMP) or Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is turned off on your router.
Let me explain my router setup
My iMac at home is connected to the internet via fiber optic line here in Japan.  The fiber cable comes from the wall to a white plastic NTT box that has 4 green LED lights, the only one of which that blinks is labeled UNI.  That box is the Bフレッツ ONU shown on this WIKI page:
    http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%85%89%E5%9B%9E%E7%B7%9A%E7%B5%82%E7%AB%AF%E8%A3 %85%E7%BD%AE
The Fiber cable form the wall goes INTO that ONU, and then there's an Ethernet cable that goes OUT of it into the WAN port of another NTT box with a black front-face, Model 2004WS, which is called a "CTU" and which I assume is the actual "Router" in my setup.  I then have an ethernet cable going between the LAN1 port of that CTU and the WAN port on my Airport Extreme Base Station (the WAN port on my Airport Extreme has what looks to be a sun-shine icon).  Another Ethernet cable goes out of my CTU at the LAN4 port and leads into a dark blue VOIP Adapter box. And the LAN3 output of my CTU leads into an Ethernet Hub, from which I connect my iMac and SE/30 (yes, that vintage Mac can connect to the internet!).  (My iPad connects wirelessly.)
The 3 NTT boxes I just described are shown in this photo:
    http://hoe.moe-nifty.com/hoe/images/HI350155.JPG
If I open Airport Utility 6.3.4, click the Airport Extreme icon, then click the Edit button, within the Network tab, I see the "Router Mode" is Off (Bridge Mode).
When I launch Network Utility and click Traceroute and type "icloud.com" and click the Trace button, Line 2 shows three asterisks " * * * ".  That seems to be saying that I DO NOT have a "Multiple NAT configuration," as per this:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1208
I can log into my CTU via Safari using the following URL:
    https://ctu.fletsnet.com/CtuC231/init.do
At left there is a button named "詳細設定" which means "Advanced Settings."  Clicking that button shows me various settings, and I can see that this CTU is acting as the DHCP Router, and that UPnP is enabled.  There is no mention of "NAT" at all, so I assume that NAT is OFF on this CTU.
The following Apple Support article is suggesting that to resolve Back to My Mac issues, I would need to change the "Router Mode" from "Off / Bridged" to "DHCP and NAT":
AirPort Utility 6.x: Set NAT options for your base station or AirPort Time Capsule
But since my CTU is already acting as the DHCP server, wouldn't changing the Airport Extreme Router Mode from Off/Bridge to DHCP wreak havoc on my setup?
    What should I do?
    Thanks.
P.S.  I also have a Brother Laser printer MFC-7840W that connects wirelessly via the Airport Extreme, and in the Network tab of Airport Utility "Timed Access Control" is enabled and that printed (wireless client) is enabled.  It took me a heck of a long time to figure out how to get that printer to work wirelessly, so I don't want to mess it up and no longer be able to print if I switch from Off/Bridged to DHCP and NAT.

There are a number of reports of BTMM not working any longer with Yosemite. Apple's solution so called is hugely simplistic.. and it doesn't help for most people.
Since it worked before Yosemite and fails to work with Yosemite.. the issue is very clear.. Yosemite has the worst networking of any Apple OS release yet.
Your setup of the Airport is completely irrelevant.
And if the CTU is not working .. i think your best strategy is to go back to a working OS.. Apple have a lot more bug killing to do before Yosemite should see the light of day.
You can still connect manually.. if you have somebody in your office or it is accessible to you .. then you can open port 548 and directly link. BTMM is just an automated system.. a no hassles.. no fuss system.. which is great when it works but is otherwise completely useless when broken.
BTW does your iCloud access still work??

  • AirPort Utility 5.4.1 reading AEBSn config error -6728

While in the process of updating the firmware (7.3.2 to 7.4.1) of one of my Airport Extreme N base stations (gig edition), I keep running into the following pop-up error message when I try to access the base station via Manual Setup. After about 37 seconds "Reading the AirPort Extreme configuration...":
"An error occurred while reading the configuration. Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6728)"
Alternatively, when I try to update the firmware via the Update Firmware button, after it asks for the base station password, it says "Searching for latest firmware version..." and the progress bar spirals forever ( > 10 minutes). I must quit AirPort Utility to stop this endless "searching."
I have updated several other AirPort Extreme and Express N base stations in my network without running into the problems above (no problems accessing base station configs, and firmware downloaded and installed immediately), so it appears this particular base station is not fully cooperating with AirPort Utility. However this base station is still functioning within my wireless network, providing access in Finder to an attached USB drive and serving as the main base among several other Extremes in an Extended network.
I have tried through AirPort Utiliy:
Base Station -> Identify... THIS WORKS
Base Station -> Restart... THIS WORKS
Base Station -> Upload Firmware... -6728 error
I have also unplugged the unit to force it to cold boot. No success getting into configuration.
The MacBook Pro from which I am running AirPort Utility 541.9 is connected directly via ethernet to a LAN port of this AirPort Extreme (the laptop's internal wifi disabled to prevent multi IP conflicts). The AirPort Extreme WAN port is connected via ethernet directly to my router. There is confirmed Internet connectivity, and per my router each device has its own unique IP address.
    So:
    1. What does "error (-6728)" mean specifically?
    2. How do I regain access to this base station, so that I can get into its configuration and do a firmware update?

Thanks Sascha H-K. Your suggestion worked!
    I removed AU 5.4.1.
I downloaded and installed AU 5.3.2.
THEN, running AU 5.3.2, I was able to enter the manual setup configuration of my stalwart AirPort Extreme base that would not respond to AU 5.4.1.
From there I was able to update the base station firmware to 7.4.1.
I noticed that when running AU 5.3.2, all the updated 7.4.1 base stations do not appear in Wireless Clients in Base Station -> Logs and Statistics. (Running AU 5.4.1 solves that problem.)
Now, I am back to running AirPort Utility 5.4.1, and I am able to access manual setup configurations for all my base stations.
It's weird this method worked. But I'm glad I didn't have to force a hard reset on the base station and lose all my network settings, bringing down the whole network since it was the main base station that didn't respond.

  • Airport Utility fails to see Airport Extreme Only an Older Base Station no longer connected

Very weird what's happened... earlier this morning there was a power failure (none of my 2 computers were ON, and they are plugged in thru UPS with power surge/outage capabilities).
I turned my old Macbook Pro (2007) and everythign is fine. My Mac Pro (2008) is fine but it can't connect to the internet.
I've resetted both the modem and the Airport Extreme Base Station.
I've restarted and resetted the PRAM on my Mac Pro.
I've tried many times to diagnose it/change settings/create new network with Network and Airport Utility to no avail.
When I open Airport Utility on the Macbook Pro, it shows the Airport Extreme and it all looks fine... when I open Airport Utility on the Mac Pro, it only sees an old Snow/Graphite Base Station I haven't had plugged in in a log time. It doesn't see anything else.
I've tried trashing the Airport Utility preferences as well... but still nothing. The Wif Fi icon shows a '!'. When I click on it, the pull down menu shows an "Alert: No Internet Connection", but it still shows my network  (and the neighbours' network) and it even has the check mark next to my network... ???
    I'm running 10.8.5 and Airport Utility 6.3.1.
    Please. Help.

Just a quick update, spent 90 minutes on the phone with apple support today.  If I boot the mac in safe mode, the airport utility can see the base station.
In the course of trouble shooting, a test account was created, but the airport utility had the same issue.  It proved that there isn't anything wrong with any of the hardware at the very least, and points to user level configuration problems (unfortunately, I was not able to sort that out with support).
    Regards,
    Seth

  • My airport express no longer shows up in Airport Utility since I got a new router.

Hi all, I'm scratching my head at this one.
For years I've had an Airport Express and it has worked fine. I was using it simply to stream music from iTunes on my PC as well as my iPhone and iPad to my home theater which is in a different room. I had a Linksys WRT150N wireless router, and the Airport Express would join my existing network and stream music via Airplay.
A few days ago I replaced my Linksys router with a Netgear WNDR3800, and the Airport Express no longer connected. I assumed I had to set it up again, but it is not even recognized by Airport Utility, so I can't get to the setup screen. I tried performing a soft reset, hard reset, and attaching the Airport Express to one of my Netgear's LAN ports via Ethernet cable, but it still won't show up in Airport Utility. The amber light just flashes on the unit and I can't access any setup screens.
Am I missing something obvious? All of the help tips assume the Airport Express at least shows up in Airport Utility. In my Airport Utility there is nothing to select and it says "AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
I am running a PC with Windows 7 and using Airport Utility v. 5.6.1 for Windows.
    Thanks for any help!
    -Rob

Did you try temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your PC to the AirPort Express to see if AirPort Utillty could "see" the AirPort Express that way? This method will work virtually all of the time unless the Windows Firewall or the PC's anti-virus program is blocking the connection attempt from your PC to the AirPort Express.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless only, you need to remember that when you reset the Expess back to default settings, it is now producing a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx.
You must log on to the Apple Network xxxxxx wireless network first....no password is required.....and then open AirPort Utility so that your PC will establish a connection to the AirPort Express.
Once the AirPort Express has been configured to join your Netgear wireless network, you can log back on to your normal wireless network and all devices will be working with one another.

  • How to setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1

How do I setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1?
I see screenshots where there are boxes to 'enable' guest network but these simply do not apear on the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility

I now have a guest account, thanks to you!
I did the factory reset and was able to set up the guest account.
There were 3 problems, all of which I was able to solve.
The first problem was connect to Ethernet, which I selected by WAN port, as shown in the first screen shot. This page used to read just Ethernet and the Bridge Mode.
The second problem was whether to share a range of addresses or share a public IP address. I selected share a public IP address as shown in the first screen shot. I had tried the range of IP addresses in my earlier attempts, the ones that failed. Hopefully this will have no effect.
I have forgotten what the third problem was - only excuse is a few too many flavored drinks. I didn't have any problems solving it though.
What is really weird is I can log on to Guest and use on my iPad (first generation), my wife's iPod Touch (third generation), and my wife's 2011 MacBook Pro. I can't log onto Guest on my 2008 iMac, even after a restart. I get the image below.
Since I don't lug my iMac around a lot and it is connected by Ethernet, while my little make it right brain says figure this out, I am not going to worry about it.
Thank you again for your time and patience in helping me solve this.

  • Disk Shows Up in AirPort Utility But Not On Network

I have a brand new AEBS. My network consists of my Windows XP box and an Apple TV.
Using MacDrive, I formatted my external hard drive to HFS+. It is blank. When I plug it into my AEBS I can see it under the Disks pane in AirPort Utility, but cannot find it on the network (and obviously it doesn't auto-mount).
Currently my machine is part of a Windows Active Directory domain (it is my work laptop). However, I've tried logging into the machine itself (rather than the domain) and setting up a Workgroup that I then set under the File Sharing tab of AirPort Utility. Same result.
I've tried all of the suggestions I've read so far, such as mounting from the IP of the base station and the name of the disk. Nothing. Disabled my firewall. Nothing.
Any help would be appreciated. Also, it would obviously be the best case scenario if I could mount the drive while logged into the domain. I'm not sure what I should place as the Workgroup under the File Sharing pane for that. I've tried the name of the domain and the name of the domain's network, but neither work. I guess this would be tackled once I can see the disk at all while not logged into the domain.
    Thanks,
    Chad

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Right now I'm actually thinking about just returning the AEBS.

  • AirPort Utility version 6 series continues to be a joke

Topic says it...in order to get to the logging...or syslog settings...or NTP settings, I had to install the 5 version on my Windows 7 Bootcamp....pathetic.

It will install using a simple workaround to bypass Apple's installer.
There are hundreds of threads about this on the forum. You must have somehow missed them.
    See this one, for example.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21397085#21397085
Another option...if you have Time Machine backups.....is to go back in time and pick up AirPort Utility 5.6. Restore it to the desktop, then manually drag it to the Utilities folder.

  • OSX Lion 10.7.3 and Airport Utility 6 Installation Errors

I tried to run a Software Update and install the latest upgrades but the installation fails for both Airport Utility 6 and OSX Lion 10.7.3 updates. Each time, the update is downloaded succesfully then after the installer runs for a while an error pops up on the screen saying something like "Error: A number of files could not be installed" and all you can do is "ok" it. Nothing gets installed. When downloading JUST Airport Utility 6 from the Apple website to attempt a manual install, I get the following error:
I've tried running Fix Disk Permissions on the drive, and even Rpair Disk, but found no errors of any kind on the disk. My disk has over 300GB of available space. The Mac is a 2011 MacBook Pro 2.3Ghz with 4G RAM, currently running 10.7.2.
I've never had ewrrors with an Apple Software Update before, so this is very strange...
Apple, can you please help, or let us know if there will be a fix forthcoming?

Examination of the system log shows the following error exactly when the update fails:
xpchelper[1030]: could not open dyld map file: (null)
Installer[1166]: The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

  • AirPort Express shows lowercase in AirPort Utility

I use an AirPort Express 802.11n (v7.5.2) to extend my wireless network with a Time Capsule 802.11n (2nd Generation / v7.5.2) as a base router. When I enter the 'Logging & Statistics' of my Time Capsule via the AirPort Utility (via: Manual Setup > Advanced > Logs and Statistics > DHCP clients), I found out that only the name (Client ID) of my AirPort Express is changed in only lowercase characters (from Luna into luna), while all the other devices (like my iPad, iPhones, iPods, printers, Apple-TV, etc.) contain their original set of upper- and lowercase characters.
Can someone please explain to me why only the name (Client ID) of the AirPort Express is changed into lowercase?

My airport express is also changed to all lowercase in the DHCP clients list.  ONLY the airport express has this change.  Also for some reason my Airport Express will not use the IP reservation based off of the DHCP client ID.  No idea why this is happening.

  • AirPort Utility says no devices found, but 2 are hooked up and running

When I AirPort Utility I'm getting the message "AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
What's odd is my Mac Mini is logged into my AirPort Extreme, and I tested my AirPort Express, and it is working also. Why is AirPort Utility having problems seeing these two devices that are up and functioning properly?

Could this be a PC/Mac firewall application issue? i.e. TCP 5009 for the AirPort Admin Utility port.
