AlwaysOn Management Pack not functioning - SCOM 2007R2

Hi all
I am a DBA but am new to SCOM and have been trying to get the AlwaysOn Management pack to work.  I manually installed some agents on the 2 boxes I want to manage and can see they are being monitored in the inventory.
The management pack was already pre-installed by another employee but when I looked into the Administration > Management Packs and clicked on Import I could see that for that particular pack the AlwaysOn features were not installed.  Thinking this
was the reason why it was not working I installed them.
I can now see when I go to Discovered Inventory and Change Target Type the AlwaysOn components however they are not monitoring anything.  The only one with an entry is the AlwaysOn seed which shows the 2 boxes, but in a not monitored state.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get this to work?
Many thanks

Hi
SQL needs Run As Accounts and Profiles configuring:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/09/08/configuring-run-as-accounts-and-profiles-in-r2-a-sql-management-pack-example.aspx
Is the SQL DBEngine discovered and do you see discovered databases on the server. I suspect you do as it seems to have discovered the Always On components but just want to check.
Also have you enabled the Agent Proxy setting - Admininstration, Agent Managed, double click - security tab.
Have you run through page 43 onwards from the guide:

  • Again - Active Directory Management Pack - AD MP - SCOM 2012R2 - AD 2012R2 - Action / RunAs Account permissions

    Hi,
after reading many Posts and Blogs i came to the conclusion that it is still unclear to me what is needed to Monitor Active Directory successfully and what is the securest way configuring the RunAs or Action Account. I hope the experts here can make a clear
Statement to answer the question for all time ;-)
    1. Action Account:
Here is described what permissions and rights are needed to use a low-privileged account:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212808.aspx
Now you might say: that was asked and answered so many times..you are right, but the answer was from run as "local System" to "you Need local admin". So also the AD MP documentation still says you Need a local Admin account.
here are other references which says you Need local admin rights:
    http://micloud.azurewebsites.net//2014/02/26/scom-agent-grayed-out-when-trying-to-monitor-domain-controllers/
    Even Kevin Holman says here
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/2a0e5a2b-a3d9-42d4-8474-9f690007caa0/opsmgrlatency-cn-gets-auto-created-in-domain-not-configuration:
"Basically - if your domain controllers are running as local system default agent action account, in most cases you will not need to ever set up any replication monitoring run-as accounts.... as local system on a DC has all the rights necessary.
    (in most cases).
"Simple questions: Is this really enought to Monitor every aspect of an ActiveDirectory Domain and Domain Controller using a low privilege account the the permissions in the article? Or is using local System better? Is there a difference when
using SCOM2012R2 with the new Agent? Most documentation referes to SCOM2007(except the replication Monitoring where it is clear that other permissions are needed:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/jimmyharper/archive/2009/05/20/configuring-or-disabling-replication-monitoring-in-the-active-directory-management-pack.aspx )

The MP guide is not really clear about it. The only thing they are clear about is whenever you want to use client monitoring. In those situations low privileged will not work.
For each of the client-side monitoring scripts to run successfully, the
Action Account must be a member of the Administrators group on both the computer
on which the client management pack is running and the domain controller that is being monitored. The
Action Account must also be a member of the
Operations Manager Administrators group, which is configured through the Operations console in so that all the scripts that are configured on the Root Management Server can run properly
Both a local system and domain admin are a risk. If someone loads a malicious management pack that makes changes to the AD services you are screwed. The local system has unrestricted access to local resources including domain services.
The only reason I don't want a domain admin account in SCOM is that you have an additional layer where the password potentially could be retrieved. That's not the case with a local system account. But the risks are the same.
    See: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms677973%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
But this not an answer to your question. :-)

  • Exchange Server 2013 Management Pack - not reporting Operations Manager 2012

    Hi,
We've installed the Exchange 2013 Management Pack into SCOM2012 but nothing seems to be reporting back. There nothing in Organization Status or Server Health.
The Agent is installed on the Exchange Server. There are Event ID's on the Exchange server of 20070; 21006 & 21016
The server itself is showing as Healthy under Agent Managed.
Is there any other configuration that needs to be done on either SCOM or the Exchange Server?
    Thanks
    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
Have you figured out how to get the management pack working on your environment?
While I was doing some maintenance on exchange, I've restarted the server and then restarted SCOM monitoring agent service and it worked.
I know that this isn't a fix but it's how to got it working...
    Hope this help

  • UCS management pack for SCOM

I've installed the UCS management pack for Microsoft SCOM 2007 R2. It appears to be working, however I now keep seeing all computers that have the SCOM agent installed trying to run the cisco.ucs.computer.probeaction.vbs script, which fails and generates alerts. Does anyone know why these servers that are unrelated to UCS would be trying to run these scripts, or how to fix this problem?

The Problem is that you use an “&” string in a name of one of the protection Groups.
Change the name of the protection Group where you have used an “&” symbol
. Restart the “System Center Management” and you should see that the discovery success.
If still have same issue, started to register the differtent dll’s again on the machine and apparently registering the MOMScriptAPI.dll

  • Enabled monitor through override not visible in custom management pack

    Hello Everyone,
I've this requirement to enable a monitor which is disabled by default in its source sealed management pack. Using following article; via override; I enable the monitor and place it into a custom unsealed management pack.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/hh212818.aspx
Now when I try creating subscription based on that monitor; and select the custom unsealed management pack; that monitor is not listed/available. However, this same monitor which is turned enabled by override; is listed; if its parent sealed management pack
    is selected.
    Questions:
    1) Would selecting this monitor from its sealed management pack; safe to assume this monitor is now enabled?
    2) Is this default behavior for monitors turned enabled via override?
Please provide input to this, how an enabled monitor through override can be referenced to be used? Thank you.

    1) If the override is done properly, yes, it is enabled. You can check that it is actually enabled by opening the health explorer of an object targeted by this monitor : it should be green/yellow/red instead of blank when it was disabled
    2) It is the default behavior. What happens is that you store the override (just a parameter that says "ok, the monitor is now enabled") in the unsealed management pack, not a copy of the actual monitor.

  • Can any one tell me how to pull out a sealed management pack key token

    Hi All,
Can any one tell me how to pull out a sealed management pack key token. I want to add dependencies to a management pointing towards a sealed management pack for which a "management pack key token" is required which i need to add in the XML File
of the management pack. Can any one please tell me how to fetch that information.

    Hi Gautam,
If you need to reference one management pack in another management pack, then you will need to know what the public key token is. When referencing a Microsoft management pack, it is easy as Microsoft always have the same key which is 31bf3856ad364e35 but
if you need publickey token for other then MS management pack then you can simply run a SQL querry in your OperationManagerDB.
select * from dbo.ManagementPack where MPName = 'Type your ManagementPackID'
ManagementPackID will be present of the properties of the Management Pack.
In that case the management pack should be imported in your SCOM environment.
And you will get Public key token only for sealed Management packs not for unsealed.

  • Coherence Management Pack questions

    Hi all,
I'm attempting to setup the Coherence Management Pack for OEM12c integration but have a few questions on which I can seem to get clear answers. My understanding is that there needs to be a node setup as a JMX monitoring node for the Coherence Management Pack to function. Based on my research this should ideally be a separate node used just for JMX monitoring and not used as a data cache node. So my questions are:
    1. Does this separate node used just for JMX monitoring require a Coherence license?
    2. Is this node a single point of failure (SPOF) whereby if it goes offline then Coherence monitoring also goes offline?
    3. What is the thinking/recommendation for using this single node as the JMX monitoring node for multiple environments, i.e. DEV, TST, QUA, and PRD?
    I appreciate any assistance.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It is included in the OEM 11g installation and there is no seperate software/binaries required for Coherence Management Pack.
    Cheers,
    NJ

  • The selected management pack cannot be deleted.

I'm having problems deleting a custom management pack in SCOM 2012. The error is the following:
The selected management pack cannot be deleted. This might be because it is currently being deleted or it has already been deleted. If you think this message is in error, try again later.
    Any ideas?

I face the same problem in SCOM 2012 SP1
The selected management pack cannot be deleted. This might be because it is currently being deleted or it has already been deleted. If you think this message is in error, try again later.
I only have the problem with one unsealed MP.
I can delete other sealed MPs and import them again. So I hope my environment with DB is working well.
I also have deleted all overrides for this pack (in the same MP/xml because it is unsealed), restarted the DB-Server and the SCOM Management Server and also started the SCOM console with switch "/clearcache". All without success
Any idea how I can remove this MP from my SCOM environment.
    Remark:
I tried the idea from AndreasZuckerhut
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/166c3560-c3ae-4510-8e25-1b6f1b57e3bc/unable-to-delete-mp-in-scom-2012?forum=operationsmanagermgmtpacks
created an own MP with the same ID but a newer version and started the "Import Management Pack"  from the SCOM -Management GUI.
This time I got the Import-error  called  "The transaction log for database 'OperationsManager' is full due to 'ACTIVE_TRANSACTION'.  I also see the same eventlog entry 9002 on the SQL-Server System.  Could this be also an hint to
the upper problem of an failed deletion of an MP?  A guide how to solve this is on
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/380879/About-transaction-log-and-its-truncation-in-SQL-Se . But I not tried it yet whether it solves the problem. I will ask an SQL expert first and will note the result here later.

  • Looking for a SQL query to get all the possible Alert Messages from the Rules in a Management Pack

For reporting, I'm looking to get a SQL query of all the possible Alert Messages for Rules configured in a Management Pack (not necessarily the ones that have thrown alerts).  I can do this for Monitors, but not for Rules.
The configured alert messages for the Management Pack Monitors
go like this:  ManagementPack > MonitorView> RuleModule > RuleModule.Alert Message > Localized Text
The configured alert messages for the Management Pack Rules
should go something like this, but there is a missing link:  ManagementPack > RuleView > RuleModule > ? Missing Link ? > Localized Text
The Rules are tied to the Module, but I don't see a connection from the RulesModule to the Alert Message that I see in the LocalizedText. The Rule names do not always equal the Alert name.
Can someone provide the missing link?

    Hi,
please try below powershell code to find the corresponding management pack for specific alert:
    $Alert = get-scomalert | where {$_.Name -like 'Agent Proxy Not Enabled*'} | select -first 1
    If ($alert.IsMonitorAlert -eq "True") {
    write-host "Ths is a monitor-generated alert"
get-scommonitor -ID $Alert.MonitoringRuleID | select Enabled, DisplayName, ManagementPack
    else
    write-host "This is a rule-generated alert"
get-scomrule -ID $Alert.MonitoringRuleID | select Enabled, DisplayName, ManagementPack

  • Credentials to management pack templates - Service monitoring

    Hello,
I'm trying to see the list of services in a server to use the "management pack templates" in scom 2012 r2, but i'm getting the following error.
My action account don't have the necessary permitions to enter in the server. Where can i change the credentials to be used in this operation?
    Thank you,

From my experience in monitoring Windows Service, we should provide a service name and it is a easy way if we can select a service in another computer from slect windows service dialog box. In reality, our user account has no privileges in opening Service
Control Manager on target computer. My workaround solution is asked user to provide the service name. User can dump the service name by double click the service in services console.
