Am I wasting my time, ink and paper?

I think that I have read just about every forum that exists on colour management etc in an attempt to solve this particular problem. Whenever I allow an application (Photoshop Elements 6, Aperture 2 and Lightroom 2) to manage colour under Leopard OS, I find that my prints are dark with a magenta cast. I get reasonable, but not perfect prints, when my printer manages the colour. I am using Epson ink and paper and their ICC profiles. The printer driver is downloaded from the Epson Europe site. I appreciate that my printer is probably nearing the end of its days but it has produced excellent prints under Windows and PSE in the past. I am thinking of buying an Epson R1900 and Aperture 2 but I am reluctant to do so until I have greater confidence in my Mac OS. Any thoughts/advice gratefully received.

It sounds like you are applying color correction two times. It is generally recommended that you do not allow the application to manage color. If you insist on letting the application manage the color, then look under the *Color Management* section of the Epson printer driver in the print window (if it is the same as on my Stylus Photo 1280) and choose the option not to any color management.
The more preferred way is to tell your application not to manage color. Let the printer driver manage the color.

Yes but there's no point doing it here. As the Terms of Use make quite clear this is a User to User forum. It's Users like you talking to other Users. It's not a channel to communicate with Apple.

  • I continue to get 'no air printers found' after switching on/off and ink and paper ok. What do I do now?

I continue to get 'no air printers found' after switching on/off. Ink and paper ok. What should I try next please?

See requirements for AirPrint and printers that support AirPrint here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer supports AirPrint but does not work then:
Your printer might need a firmware update
Your printer must be on the same WiFi network
Your router must support Bonjour (Zero-configuration networking).
    Troubleshooting:
Turn Off iPad, WiFi router (remove from power), and Printer (remove from power).
    Turn on WiFi router
    Wait 30 seconds
    Turn on printer
    Wait 30 seconds
    Turn on iPad
    Try to print.
If you need more help then what model printer do you have?

  • IPOD Shuffle = waste of time, effort and frustration

I bought the 1 gig shuffle. After going through the online manuals, I took several hours to get my CDs together and download songs into iTunes on my MacPro. I then synced and all other required steps to get the music onto the iPod. 176 songs. After everything was loaded, I followed the steps to disconnect from the computer. I will say this - the music sounded good.
After I shut the Ipod off to go and do some work, I came back, deleted the songs from Itunes since there was no sense in keeping them since I already downloaded them to the iPod. Now, during this time, the iPod, which had a full charge, was turned off and not docked.
So - I go back to get some comouter work done, I turned the iPod back on to listen to some music - and the flashing lights on the iPod indicated that there were no songs. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Goose eggs. Naught. Zilch. Void.
To say that I was not a happy camper would be an understatement. I put the thing away before I smashed it with the hammer.
I went online to get some information. Again - nothing. I looked for an email address so I could send a complaint. Nothing. I called the 1-800 number. After waiting 15 minutes (not a bad wait time actually, compared to some other companies), I spoke with a young man who directed me to the support website. Of course, the email address I was looking for was for corporate.
Well, on Sunday I decided that maybe I did something wrong. So, I downloaded some more songs - only about 30 this time. Follwed all the directions for resetting the iPod etc etc etc. I got the songs onto the iPod. Disconnected the iPod from the dock - following the instructions from the online manuals.
The music sounded great. Again. And then? You guessed it! The thing indicated that there was nothing on the iPod.
Please keep in mind, that on both days I put the iPod back on the dock and it indicated no songs.
Now I am not that crazy - I was listening to the songs - both days.
Anyway - I took the piece of crap back to Sam's Club and got my money back. The lady asked me if I wanted to get another one. I simply asked her: "Why would I do that to myself?"
I am calling corporate this morning and letting them know. That will be followed up by a letter.
What a piece of junk I was sold! Thankfully my MacPro is a better product.
I will NEVER buy another iPod. This of course, makes me doubt other Apple products. I will ALWAYS advise others to steer clear of iPods.
If anyone from Apple ever reads these things - pfffffffffttttt to you. I wasted hours of my life I will NEVER get back as well as having to make an extra trip to the store to return your defective product.
In looking at the contents of the discussion pages here, I am not the only one that has had problems with this product. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, someone from Apple might want to look at these pages.

Deggie, please review what I wrote. The music, obviously, had to be on the iPod for me to listen to it. The problem arose after I turned it off and then went to listen to it again. The light flashes indicated that there were no music files on the iPod. This was tested true when nothing played. It was then that I redocked the bloody thing. Of course, if there were any files on it, they would have been wiped since I deleted the music from iTunes.
And, on Sunday, I resynced the iPod, reloaded some music and had the same thing happen. That is when I returned it to the store and got my money back.
I still stand by my premise that this product was not very well thought out and that the idea that one has to keep old files on the computer goes against logic. As I also stated earlier, I do have a Mac computer and I love it. Was the iPod defective or was the operators head space not adjusted right? Well, I thought it might have been me - that is why I tried to get stuff on the iPod on Sunday. But when the same thing happened, well, that pretty much sealed the decision for me.
I, for one, just want to put the music on the device, use the device when I go running and keep my hard drive as clear as possible. To me, that would be serving the customer and making in simple. That is something that Apple did not do with this particular product.

  • ITunes Match; a waste of time for mobile devices and the impatient

I recently subscribed to itunes match, aside from being able to upgrade a portion of my lower bitrate files, I am extremely dissapointed (as are many others I've read about having the same issues.)
First, getting all of my music on the server was a nightmare.  I spent way more time then I'd like to admit tricking iTunes into accepting my data.  Quite a bit of my library is in fact available for purchase in the itunes store, but only portions of most of the albums actually matched - the remaining portions had to upload. Fine, I'm okay with that aside from not being able to upgrade albums in their entirety, now I have some tracks at 256, others in the same album at 128 or whatever - I decided to selectively chose alums/tracks that I really cared about or didn't feel like re importing from disc in a few cases.  Fine.. annoying, but not a total deal breaker.
I was finally able to figure out how (without apples help btw.. they didn't know this procedure when I spent an hour or so on the chat, screen sharing with a "specialisdt")  to trick itunes into uploadeing all "waiting" tracks by doing the AAC conversion myself manually and then replacing the compressed data locally with apple lossless files (both m4a files) while retainging the compressed data on the cloud.  fine.. I enjoy trouble shooting and problem solving, I was actually psyched to figure it out and be able to retain my high quality files locally without having doubles or redundant data in an archive elsewhere not within the iTunes data base.  Fine. apple lossless is no wav, aiff, but I can compramise also in order to imbed meta data which wav is not able to do.
What I want is access to my entire library and to be able to either stream songs over wifi or 4g and/or download locally for when I'm off network in the boonies, etc.  *side note: don't anyone tell me this isn't a streaming service and that it only downloads to the device because it in fact does... it's just intollerably slow more often than not.  Now I can deal with that, that is either my cellular provider throttling me, or it's Apple's servers.  I will assume a bit of both.  also, don't tell me that matched content downloads faster then uploaded content.. that's BS, I've run the tests on multiple devices and there is no consitacy to it.. it all depends on the traffic on iCloud servers, wireless towers and size of the file/leanght of track, etc.  Fine.
I've run the speed test, I've rebooted divices.  I've reset/confirmed/adjusted network setting.. I've done most of what I could do on my end as a user.  I can't seemlessly stream data on my unlimmited data plan from at&t from apple.. fine.. I get it.. regarless of my slow streaming issues - it's a first world problem.. whatever, I can deal.
My biggest gripe is that when I download either matched songs or uploaded content, it's is painfully slow to do so.. it's a waste of time.. manging the library on mobile devices takes forward thought and plenty of patience.. I might as well do this at home tethered to my desktop - convert to 128 to save space and accept my choices and deal with what I have loacally for the time when I'm out and about.   Now whren I buy something from apple over the 4g network or even the edge network,... &*^% downloads lickity split.. *** apple .. fine, it's big business.. I get it.. I for one would have paid 100 bucks a year if this service worked as advertised.. maybe more.,.. it's awesome in  theory, but is not realy for the limelight even still 2 years after the release.. hopefully it'll get better soon...
Now this works great in my home over laptop, apple tv, but over ipad and iphone.. not so much.. actually working fine right now as long as I don't change the track abruptly... figures after this long rant.... once I continue on my day I'm sure it'll go back to being a pain.
I'm going to use it at home, maybe on the run very ocasionally.. I guess that's what Apple thought we'd want, but they have been so misleading with this, and so abscent with trouble shooting an technical support that I've given up.. if I wasn't so in love with thier UI's and hardware (for the most part) I'd walk in time since steve jobs is now gone.
unless you want to wrestle with it for hours and hours, or just want to upgrade your low quality files and bounce.. don't waste your time people.. ^$^$ all that noise
It's too bad Samsung assinated Steve Jobs.. he'd never let this service be released uptil it was ready.   in the future I may have to go to the dark side and get a galaxy tab and smart phone, a Dell.. window vista.. naaaa just kidding.  *** apple.. p,lease sort your ^$%&7 out.
    Done and done.
please fix this Apple, I want to love iTunes match, I really do.

Firstly, this is a user-to-user forum: you're not talking to Apple here.
Just saying it 'doesn't work' doesn't make it possible to offer any cogent suggestion - one would need a lot more detail on what you've tried and what the result have been - including your operating system details. However if the thing is actually faulty - this is rare, it works fine for most people, but it can happen - then plainly you need to contact the people you bought it from, or take it into an Apple Store if you can, and ask for a replacement or repair.

  • O2 Live Chat- waste of time and full of empty promises and lies.

I just wanted to share with you my experience of 'problem resolution / customer care' with o2. This post is directly linked with my as yet unresolved previous post titled 'lack of support from o2 when things go wrong.' Although this is shown as resolved, trust me, it is not !! Below are exerts from the 'Live Chat' sessions that I have had with o2. For fun, you could play spot the offer of a promise, and then try to find where this has been upheld by o2. (to save you wasting your time looking, I'll tell you now, there are none) Thought the matter had been resolved, it looks good, but looks can be deceiving……….o2: I've arranged the credit amount for you.o2: I've forwarded your details to our Support team and filled the Consumer credit request form for you nowo2: And I'm waiving off the amount of cancellation fee £104 for you now.o2: Please be with me while I do this for you now.Me: ??? that is great. I really do appreciate your help. I'll stay connected.o2: Thanks.o2: Thanks for your patience and I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.o2: I can appreciate how frustrating this may be for you.o2: I've done this for you now.02: This will be processed for you in next 3 days and You'll receive the credit in the next bill .o2: Yes, be assured and you can trust me. I've personally arranged this for you now. I hope I've resolved your query to your satisfaction. After seeing that the money has NOT been refunded onto my bill as of yet……………………. o2: Thanks for waiting.o2: You'll receive the refund in next bill.Me: So what does this mean, that you will take 105 from my account on 2nd May and then refund it a month later?o2: Yes.Me: But that is crazy, you have not claimed the money yet, so still have time to apply the credit and thus cancel the bill. Why should you have 105 pounds of my money for one month, when you have already agreed to refund it? This just does not make sense.o2: It's already generated and the request is also been made.o2: I'll request you to call our customer service number for the same. The next month and the next bill, and ………………………… still no refund……….. o2: I'm sorry the refund isn't showing on your account. I understand that this has been stressful for you. Don't worry, I'll ensure that after today, this is sorted for you once and for all.O2: Ken, your details on the previous contract were with phones4u and I'm not able to refund it on that account at the moment. I can see the bill for the termination charge though.o2: Now, would it be fine, if I put the credit on your current account that you've signed up the new contract for?o2: This credit balance can be adjusted with your future bills or I can transfer it to your bank account directly from my end.Me: can you please transfer it directly to my bank from your end please, as it has been outstanding now for over a month, and I don't want it outstanding for longer.o2: Yes, absolutely. I'll do this for you.Me: Thanks, and out of interest why did (previous o2 customer care employee) not do this at the start. Either this or just cancelled the bill that had been created for this amount. This would have saved a lot of time and stress on my behalf in having to chase this now for the third time-albeit I will state again (third customer care employee who I am talking with today) that I know this is not your fault- but I am sure you can understand me being unhappy about this.o2: What I'll do for you is keep an eye on your account from my end and ensure that the credit balance is in your bank account immediately after the next bill is adjusted.o2: Yes, I can understand that this has been stressful for you Ken and I'm sorry that (previous o2 customer care employee) didn't do this for you.o2: I'll try my best to get this transferred to your bank account as soon as possible. I'm sorry for the trouble you've had to go through to get this sorted. Please give me a chance Ken and I won't let you down.Me: Okay, I'm happy to do that, but do you have a time frame for this being sorted. I appreciate that you are doing your best, but the phrase 'as soon as possible' is rather open ended.o2: I'll email you by the end of day to tell you when the amount will be in your bank account. Would that be fine? Despite the ‘Please give me a chance Ken and I won't let you down,’ no e-mail and no refund to my bank account so here we go again……………………………… o2: I've checked and can see that we have already credited the £105.50 to your O2 account which is still in the recent charges section of your bill and will reflect on your next bill.Me: okay, but as per my chat with ??? , that will be another month and ??? said that he could / would arrange to have the money paid back into my bank accountMe: He also said that he would send me an e-mail later that day re when the money would be paid back. However, by the looks of it this has not be done, because I certainly have not received any e-mails from ???.o2: I'm sorry, you'll have to call us on 202 free from your phone to get the amount transferred onto your bank account as due to the security reasons, the bank account details can't be shared online.Me: Can you provide me with details as to who I should further my complaint to, and do you have a legal department that I should contact if I proceed with this to the small claims courto2: I'm really sorry ken.o2: I can understand now what you are feeling.o2: But please don't take us wrong. I'll definitely add a note to your account and will see that your complaint is soon resolved.o2: You can email our complaints team [email protected]: Will someone from your complaints dept be able to call me tomorrow. If they can then I will happily speak with them. But I feel that I would be wasting my time to contact / e-mail them.o2: As I'm from an online chat team, I won't be able to arrange a callback from them.o2: But I'll request you to call us on 202 free from your phone and you can speak to a manager and resolve your complaint. The above are exerts only from the live chat sessions thus far, as I would not want to post the whole sessions for fear of crashing the system. I have also removed employee names, as I believe that o2 do this anyway when they edit these posts. Please let me know if you have received poor service also, as I am currently seeking to take this further and one option could be to contact someone such as Watchdog from the BBC, thus others may not end up with o2 and this level of poor service.

Couldn't have put it better myself.  I have a 24 month contract with O2, £37 a month for the iPhone 4s. My iPhone 4s was faulty, Apple advised me it was a common hardware problem they were aware of and that I should contact O2. The first advisor I spoke to was very helpful. Agreed to swap my phone for a reconditioned 4s free of charge. I asked if I could pay extra for the iPhone 5 and he agreed to sell me a reconditioned handset for £75 and a doorstep swap for my old phone. At first I thought this was fantastic and said yes. Later on, my partner reminded me that I'm paying £900 for a 2 year contract, and for a phone that is supposed to remain fit for purpose for that period (as per the Sales of Goods Act). I started to think they should have provided me with a brand new phone as the fault was not due to me, but due to a common hardware issue. I became even more annoyed when I realised £75 for a second hand phone on top of what I'm paying in my contract was crazy. I contact O2 and explained this matter at length. No joy. Now - that problem might be a matter of opinion, but what happened next was disasterous. The following day I met with the delivery driver, who handed me a grubby iPhone 5 - no case, no box, not so much as a plastic bag. It was covered in some kind of white dust/powder and dirty with fingerprints. The more I looked at the phone the more I felt I'd been dooped. When I went to charge the phone, I realised my old iphone 4s charger didn't fit. I had no idea I needed a new charger and nobody advised me. When I went to insert my sim card, I realised that wasn't going to fit either. No one had advised me. I didn't even get the fork to open the sim card slide. So there I was, stuck without a phone. I opened the live chat. After explaining myself at length, I got a series of "Please hold while I do my best to try to sort this problem for you now" and loads of other cheesey meaningless lines. By this stage I was furious. When the person came back to talk to me, he advised I borrow a friend's charger to use my phone. I explained there was no one and I needed to use my phone that night. I also explained about the sim card, and the dirty phone and lack of box etc. They kept fobbing me off and telling me they would send me a charger, totally ignoring the fact this transaction was unacceptable. I got nowhere, so I hung up.  I went to the O2 store to get a nano sim. I explained the situation to the advisor, and he told me to go home and use the Swap My Sim page. Given that I'd explained the entire situation to him, I expected everything would be ok. No. Turned out I needed my old phone and old sim to do this. Back to the live chat. I explained the whole situation to the new advisor and hoped for the best. I went round in circles with him for about half an hour before he got the gist of my issue.  That seems to be the general vibe from live chat - round and round in circles, nobody listenting properly and cheesy lines like "my heartiest thanks".  My whole situation has made me think I'll leave O2 when my contract expires. Better with a tin can and a string.

  • Misled and disappointed - don't waste your time with this "player"

Frankly, I feel extremely misled by the description of AMP on its product page. Calling it a Media Player and all the talk of being able to watch what you want, when you want and streaming and downloading video - all you can *actually* do is watch stuff from the signed up content providers, or that you've already got on your hard drive (and have presumably got a player for already, that will almost certainly take up a lot less screen estate than this beast). Oh, and there's some mention of adding RSS feeds of videos - though looking at other posts here whether that works is debatable. Anything else might as well not exist.
I had hoped that it would be a way of watching embedded streamed flash videos without having to have the whole webpage that they're on open - this would give you just the video, so would be more compact, and would be resizeable so you could watch it at any size you liked, not just the default or full-screen. After all, coming from Adobe, there would be no problem about having to reverse engineer the RTMP format.
Maybe even (though I thought it unlikely) being able to download videos where the provider permitted it - no worry though, there are other tools for that.
Also - the design. A massive window, not resizeable at all except to minimise / maximise. Appalling contrast - it's like being in a cave, everything's so black. I couldn't even see that there were scroll bars - just waved my mouse around where I thought they should be.
It's like having the worst, most useless part of RealPlayer (the download centre, or whatever they call it) and not the player itself. This is *not* a media player - a client, maybe.
Frankly, the only reason I can see for installing this is if there is some content that it has that you can't get anywhere else. If not, don't waste your time - use something else.
Like I say, I'm disappointed. I feel like I've been lied to and had my time wasted. Unless I'm *really* missing something??

  • Serious battery issues, apple support waste of time and money!

My Mac Book Pro 17" has a serious battery issue it holds a charge for a hour or less, and does not always charge. Telephone apple support and all they say is take it to one of there shops to get it tested that will cost me about £40 in train fare and take a day at least. Ive had the Mac since September 2011 i never started using it until late December 2011. A 3 year warranty for what!!!!! And it overheats.....  Apple good bye your becoming worse the Microsoft your just making money out of constant yearly updates/releases of your products, Updates which becoming boring!

The thing is you pay for a warranty and unless you live close to a Authrorised test centre etc, then it cost you more in time and money for travel!
I'm really not clear on what you're asking Apple to do.  You don't have to go to an Apple store, you can go to any Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP).  Your warranty is still completely valid.  You can find them here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
The title of your thread says Apple support is a waste of time and money.  What would have preferred that they do?  If you are too far from an Apple store or AASP, you can let them know that and they will usually send you out a box so you can ship your machine back to them so they can check it out.  Of course you'll be completely without your machine during that time.
You're comment contains quite a bit of bashing for something which Apple will clearly resolve.  Unfortunately, if you live in a remote area where there are no Apple stores or AASPs and you dont' want to send it in, there isn't anything anyone can do to help you.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310a Printer paper alignment and paper feed problem.

    Standard Info:
HP Photosmart Premium C310a Inkjet All-in-one Printer.
    Windows 7 Home Premium
No reported errors messages except for paper jams.
No changes were made to the system before the problems began.
    My Info:
I am very proficient with computers and electronics. I would first like to say that this printer has very vibrant inks and its ColorSmart/sRGB ICC profile is pure magic. The high DPI ratings have turned out to be accurate so far and the printer prints beautiful images.
    Problems:
The problem I am having is with the printers paper feed rollers.  They are not scrolling the paper through the printer accurately and consistantly.  There have also been two paper jams when using multipurpose everyday paper.  When printing high res artwork using HP Advanced Photo Paper I was using HP Photosmart Essentials to create an 8"x10" picture on the 8.5"x11" paper and the first 35-40 prints came out accurately but then, before any paper jams or other problems the 8x10 pictures began to not center correctly on the paper.  Then the top of the 8x10 picture started slanting to the right on the paper and extending too close to the right edge of the paper.  The entire 8x10 picture is no longer printing 8x10 (the left side of the picture is just over 8" tall and the right side of the picture is printing just under 8", same thing with the top and bottom edges of the image) and is not centering properly on the paper.  I  just had my second paper jam last night which I clicked the "cancel print" button on the front of the printer touch display to eject the paper.  Immediately after, everything began printing very close to the left edge of the paper and prints at an angle down the sheet no matter what it is that I print or what paper it is printed on.  I have tried using the auto alignment feature on the printer several times and it does not help.
    Questions:
Is this printer purchased on 09/25/2011 from hp.com (with no extended warranty) still under a regular warranty?
If I send it in for repairs will HP be able to fix these problems?
Is there any way that I can adjust the scrollers myself to fix the problem?
Is the new C510a more reliable than the C310a in this field?
I need a backup printer for my art business, I would like to purchase an HP C510a, but am concerned I will have the same problems with the new one.
If anyone can help, please respond.  I cannot go on with these problems any longer.
    Thank you for your time,
    Nanette

Thank you for your quick response Bob.  Your answer was helpful, but did not solve my problem.  I have cleaned the printer exactly as your response has suggested, but there has been no change, and I was not able to find any dirt, scum, dust, or anything at all wrong with the rollers.
Here are a few pictures of some 8"x10" pictures that I just printed on 8.5"x11" HP Advanced Photo Paper:
These 8"x10" images are supposed to be centered on the paper, but are FAR from centered or dimensionally accurate to 8"x10".
This last image shows really well how the top of the 8"x10" image slants downward from left to right as well as approaches too close to the right edge of the paper.
Is this a problem that I can fix on my own?
If I send the printer to HP for repairs will they be able to fix this problem or will they just clean the printer scrollers and send it back thinking it is fixed?
I really need help with this problem, because right now, the printer is not useable.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Printer and paper profiles

I use Photoshop CS on a Mac G4 (PPC) with OS X 10.4.11. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R340 inkjet with 6 colours.
I set out a couple of days ago to print a lot of greeting cards — A5 cards that fold to A6. The ones I got were matte ones, which I had never used before. I used the 'Print with preview' option with the following settings: Color Management / Document: Adobe RGB (1998) / Proof (not checked): U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2 / Intent: Relative Colorimetric / Black Point Compensation not checked.
Since I believe that my Epson SPR340 printer has the same colour characteristics as the SPR350, I chose a profile from the available Epson SPR350 profiles; namely MPHW (which is for heavy-weight matte paper). The results were terrible, with pale, washed-out colours. After hours of experimentation, during which I used up almost my entire stock of cards, I discovered that I could get good results (but with slightly overemphasised reds) with the same profile as the default proof profile (which, however, I have not checked), namely U.S. Sheetfed Uncoated v2,and even better results with the Epson Standard RGB – Gamma 1.8 profile.
I have now ordered a new supply of cards, but glossy ones, with which I have a little more experience, so I shall have to experiment some more, though these cards are supposed to be in the post in the next day or two in time to be delivered for Christmas. But I should be immensely grateful for any explanation or advice: why did the profile for my type of printer and matte paper, printing on matte cards, give such terrible results? What profile should I use for my new glossy cards? (My instinct would be to use the SPR350 profile PGPP, i.e. for premium glossy paper, but my experience with the matte cards has made me sceptical.) Any other information about profiles that anyone is able to offer?
    Thank you in anticipation.

Totally to be expected, Michael.  One can't do that, not even remotely!
The profile, if not custom made for your specific combination of paper, ink and printer, MUST be provided by the paper manufacturer for each specific printer model, and it will only be good for that particular printer, using the same ink on that particular paper.
    You can't "approximate".
Never buy a paper for which the vendor cannot supply you with a specific profile for your particular printer and ink.  It's that simple.

  • I cant get my 7400 to print ink, done tests but no ink on paper - ink carts are tested okay.

HP Officejet 7400, Windows XP, can't seem to get the ink to print on paper.  I tried printing from the computer a Word document, I tried to print a copy from the top of the machine, and I tried to do a print test and cartridge test and a clean cartridge test and no ink came out of the cartridges.  The paper came throught the machine as though it was printing but no ink came from the cartridges.  I did a manual clean of the heads with a paper towel and the ink heads had some ink that cleaned off during the process.  When I did the align cartridge cartridge printing test and got only three little lines, very faint and almost unnoticable.  It seems to be functioning properly but no ink.   Should I just get some new cartridges?  I did a cartridge test and the message came back that the cartridges were okay and original HP cartridges so it did diagnose there is ink and they are HP products......   I don't have any other solution, any help out there?

It is possible the printheads have become clogged due to sitting for so long unused.  Try running three cleaning cycles from the toolbox.  If this does not recover the printheads then put 1" of very hot water in a cup and put the cartridges nozzles down in the hot water for about five minutes.  When this is done gently blot the printhead on a damp tissue and dry the cartridge contacts, then reinstall the cartridges in the printer and try another cleaning cycle.

  • What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.

What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.  I'm not looking for quality, just less ink used.  I also used photo paper, then selected plain paper fast draft.  Not great quality, as expected, but still looking to use less ink.  My guess is the plain paper uses more, because it is more porous. My printer is an hp Deskjet 2050.  My operating system is, 64-bit Intel Core I-7-2670 QM.
    Thank You for any assistance

The printer will put droplets of ink on the page based on what it detects the media is (for printers with "Automatic" as a paper type) or the specified media in the driver.
If you select plain paper, draft and print on photo paper it would use the same amount of ink as if you put in plain paper.  The results are likely to be very very poor if you do that, for several reasons:
The pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper, it will not dry properly.  When photo media is selected the printer will not use the pigmentd black ink even to print text, it will mix color to make black.
It takes much more ink to give proper photo settings on photo paper as compared to plain paper.  Using plain paper draft settings is likely to result in an unusable photo paper page, ruining a $1 sheet of photo paper to save a $0.20 worth of ink - not a good tradeoff.
If you plan to print a lot of photo's you might consider a printer that uses the HP Ink advantage subscription service.  This service is based on pages printed, and they count photo pages the same as plain paper, even though a full page photo may use 10x or more the ink of a plain paper text page.
