An led light visible in my modem plug hole remains on after the notebook is shut down.

I just noticed this last night, and my battery was at 80% 12 hours later. Is there any troubleshoot program I can run to diagnose this problem?

Hi,
Are you talking about the LAN port ? If yes that's is normal for many machines. You can disable it thru BIOS, under boot from Network.

When I power-up a pop-up says my USB plug-in overdrew power effecting other systems (webcam, microphone) shut down and are now unrecognised. How do I reboot so I may have access to these features?

  • When plugging iPhone into computer to sync DELL computer shuts down

I am trying to sync my iPhone (adding new music). When I plug my phone into my DELL computer , it first recognizes the hardware , then computer screen goes blank. I have tried different USB ports.
I get an error saying NET Framework, and have tried to install this software but then it says not compatible.
Also I called support and the rep suggested to open MSN as my browser and that did help previously, but now I am having the same problem with my computer screen going blank when I plug in my phone.
Is there anything anyone can suggest to do?

Does it display a blue screen with diagnostic information before shutting down? Do you have a scanner or Webcam? If so you need to upgrade the drivers for these. See

  • Red Power Led after Satellite L755 was shut down

    Hello.
After I shutdown Windows and notebook is power off then red power led appears.
    It doesn`t blink.
    What does it means?
+Message was edited: model number added in subject+

Do you mean Power indicator (the second from left) or DC IN indicator (the first from left)?
The Power indicator normally glows white when the notebook is turned on.
If the unit goes into Sleep mode, the LED would flash amber.
The DC IN LED glows white when power is supplied correctly.
If the output voltage from AC adaptor is not OK, the LED flashes amber.
The meaning of Red indicator isnt known to me but I guess its hardware related issue

Play it safe with the charging.  Use the wall charger for at least an hour and then connect to the computer.  If iTunes still denies that it exists, go here:

If the notebook only shuts down when using battery power, then the problem is either the battery (most likely) or the battery controller in the notebook (less likely).
Open the HP Support Assistant and run the Battery Check utility.   Post your results here.
I would also suggest power cycling (remove the battery & power cord and let sit w/o power for a minute) the unit and performing an HP BIOS update (can be downloaded from your notebook Support & Drivers page).

  • Please add indicator LED light for the HDD and sleep back, add some system hotkey

After Lenovo have announced  the new T440 T540,we were shocked by the graphic card: GT720m (game card) and no indicator LED for HDD. At last we need a NVS graphic card to do some grophic related work or mobile business.
So we waited for the new w540, after coming to public we were shocked again there is :
    - no indicator LED for HDD, sleep, wift and bluetooth,
    - no hotkey to disable touchpad
    - no hotkey to sleep
    - no turn on/off screen hotkey
    - no hot plug for cdrom or second HDD
these are miserable and somehow funny, maybe no indicator for apple is ok as most new macbooks are all SSD
    rather than mechanical hard disk.
maybe no led for sleep for apple is ok as Mac OS goes to sleep very quick and they use SSD. But for thinkpads we close the lid and wait for the moon LED light to take thinkpad freely, also for the sake of hard disk rotation. Now we need to look at the power button which is impossible when the lid is closed.
no hotkey for sleep ? some friends said "  Fn+4 acts as a suspend shortcut (I think it was added in BIOS 2.05)" , we hope it is ok.
no notkey to off display? no hotkey to disable touchpad? It is really unconvenient
So is there update for these minus? Hotkey may update by the BIOS and driver. Will lenovo do so? After testing well, it will be back really easy to use.
And is there any Modle B for w540 to add LED back ? Missing indicator LED for HDD is nightmare for troubleshooting. Miss sleep indicator in front of Thinkpad(A-Side) is miserable for bringing sleeping w540.
Miss wifi and bluetooth is also unconvenient..... And it is not a very hard work.
Also it is said there is no driver update for fingerprinter reader from AuthenTec, because AuthenTec is bought by Apple?
For thoso who do is really smart but also keep the good previous features,
    PLEASE

Today on shutting down the W540, I get the Windows blue shut down screen with the comment:
"Operations are in progress, pleases wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete."
OK, so I waited 20+ minutes....  Mouse logo spinning, but no idea what i/o's are going on. Fast disk access? Slow disk access, intermittent disk access? Or is it locked?  CtrlAltDel has no action. Mouse cursor does move.
So did a cold boot/restart (still not knowing what was happening in the Black Box).  Must have locked up restarting, as I waited 10+ minutes with NO IDEA what was going on, a REAL "black box".
Cold booted again, and  tried a Safe Mode.  Worked!, and did a check disk - said not errors????.  All OK now.... but WHERE IS THE HD LIGHT!!!!!!!
Now I just cheked, the Dell, ASUS, TOSHIBA, SONY workstations have them.....  We need to review this carefully at the R&D level, AND NOT LISTEN TO MARKETING!  T'was, my fault for deciding on the W540,  I never checked that specification, and just ASSumed all the indicators lights would be there! Now I'm stuck with a $2,500 toy - never feeling secure in the work being done.  I need rwo more workstartion, but it will be a nuissance to be on two types of workstations.
When I run my Stat package, it takes sometime 1+hr of analysis, I have no idea if the program is waiting, paused, or locked.... no HD activity light, no heartbeat no idea if I need to reboot, or wait.  Maybe it's an act ot terrorism to waste US worker's time ????  <g>

The power light is always OFF (no light), even when the laptop is on and running.

  • No Notification LED Light for Missed Calls Since Update

I used to get a LED light notification when a call was missed. Now since the new "update" I no longer get the notification. Anyone else notice this? How do I get the LED notification light back?

This happened to mine right after updating, and was easily fixed by clearing the Cache of my texting and email apps. None of my LED indicators were working, but it's a simple fix. Just go into Settings -- Applications -- Manage Applications -- Select your texting and email apps, and select Clear Cache. That will also fix your call/voicemail notifications. No need to go buy an app.

  • WRT54GS WLAN LED light flickering with no wireless activity

I have a WRT54GS router. It is password protected. Even though I don't have anything connected wirelessly to it, sometimes the WLAN LED light flickers. Is there anything wrong? I checked the outgoing logs and I only see one I.P. address.

  • Dual G5 won't power on - power led lights on push only

    Hi,
My 2Ghz Dual G5 doesn't turn on and I hoped someone could provide advice on repair.
When I push the power button the power led lights (once) but nothing else happens.
I have reset the pmu, replaced the internal battery and swapped RAM with known good.
I don't think my model has internal LEDs on the MB.
Would the power led still light if I have a bad power supply?
Is there any way I can tell if i have a bad motherboard rather than a bad power supply?
    Thanks,
    Tom

In the G5 manual, in the section on trouble-shooting, it says what one light blinking, two blinking, 3-blinking means.
I'd look it up for you right now but I'm at the libary, using their public computer, since my PowerPC G5 also died, at last, 4sure, last week. I had that light blinking three (3) times.
I've come to conclude it is a bad logic board that many other threads mention. Cost for repairs are very high.
I (seriously), without realizing it, went through some noted classic symptoms of "grief." -- First, there was Denial (i.e. Disbelief); then Anger; Then I tried last gasp measure to make a miracle happen, trying to "be reasonable and negotiate," a fix.
All repair people I contacted told me to buy something new. I "lnegotiated," some extended credit and creative bridge financing. (Um...can you spell: p-a-w-n shop....deliberately going into overdraft protection...whatever I had to do, etc.)
Today, I placed the order for a Mac mini, M239LL/A. ON EVERY SPECIFICATION it is better than my now dead PowerPC duel 2.3 G5 tower and cost one-third the price. Plus it has Bluetooth and Wi-fi.
The Black Friday Sales are soon approaching so this may be the best time to make the transition. It would have cost as much to ship and repair my G5 tower and not only do you get the latest version of iLife, Snow Leopard, but rebate deals that you can get when buying a new computer offered iWorks at half-price, discounts on other Apple software, and third-party software. I got a full $80.00 rebate on an HP F4480 all-in-one printer (that only cost $80.00...plus you get that free subscription to a Mac magazine and back on the cutting edge of computers instead of looking at other's ride the surf.
Ten days ago I was devestated. Today I am as excited and pleased as I was five years ago when I got the G5 tower.
EVERYBODY I talked to, at the library computer lab, friends, all nodded their heads sagely and said: "Yea, five years...that's about it for a computer."
It just took me ten days to 'go through the transition. It was strange that something so valuable suddenly was worth nothing; i.e. not even worth repairing.
I had 4.5GB of RAM. Never needed more. Now I'll have 4GBs of 150% faster ram, 14% faster CPU, the new apple age mainstream Intel chip, etc.
I was using two PCI-X slots...that's about the only thing I won't be restoring but their use was not necessary at all and PCI-X slots were almost out of date the day i got them and what I really wanted, a video graphic's card, didn't exist for PCI-X.
So...that was my experience with this unfortunately event -- the death of a good machine.
But I was very pleased to have 4.7 years of trouble free prime time computing and didn't really think about leapfrogging to the future and doing it again.
If my old G5 was still going I'd still be a-okay with it, but stuff was happening with software improvements that were for Intel only and that just, slowly at first, got more significant.
The death of my G5 was like a "wake up call!'

  • Led lights are on even after shutdown, please help me

I even tried for clean boot but of no use. I even tried of shutting down in safemode by clean boot but now shutdown screen is freezed.
    please help me

    Hi Thatigowtham,
    Welcome to Lenovo forums
As I understood that you are facing the issue with the laptop where the LED lights are glowing after laptop shutdown completely.
I would like to suggest few of the trouble shooting steps:-
Try to boot the laptop by connecting only battery, remove the adapter.
Try to boot the laptop by connecting only adapter, remove the battery.
Also perform the power drain, by disconnecting all the extrernal devices connected to the laptop.
    Turn off the laptop.
Remove the battery and also the adapter. Now press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Connect the battery and adapter and try to power on the system.
Also check in safe mode for the issue.
Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.
    Best regards,

  • MBP unib. 17" shut down instead of sleeping (also when plugging magsafe)

    Hi All!
    I've this problem.
When i get the system message that the battery is running out and i wait for it to discharge sometimes the MPB just shut down without apparently sleep, but when i turn it on the screen shows it went in hibernation.
Other times it goes and still in safe sleep but when i plug the magsafe it shut down immediately and i have to reboot it from hibernation every time.
Is there any way to fix this myself or i have to send it to support?

Calibrate your battery and see whether that makes a difference:

I tried but apparently nothing happened.
    the calibration steps are:
_Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged._
_Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in._
_Disconnect the power adapter while the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, the low battery warning dialog appears on the screen._
_At this point, save your work. Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low, the computer will automatically go to sleep._
*At this point my macbook saves ram on disk for hibernation and shuts down itself imediatly after. Or in best cases it stays in a "can't wake" sleep for an hour or two and if i plug magsafe while in this state it shuts down...*
*Anyway i also did the last 2 steps:*
_Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more._
_Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again._
And again, when i leave the mac on battery power after the warning dialog the insane behavior occurs every time.
Can't figure out why my battery seems not to handle the 5 hour forced sleep it should.
