Apple case design flaw - broken ipad

Having recently just purchased my shiny new ipad, I made use of the apple supplied case by putting it in the stand position so that I could watch the screen without holding it.
The audio noise was enough for it to lose its balance and topple of the side breaking my ipad. Not a happy customer.
Please be aware of using the case as a stand as it is not fit for purpose.

2 things:
i have this case and there is NO WAY i have enough volume, even at full blast with MANOWAR playing out of it that it will topple anywhere!!
2nd: you used your ipad in its case, in the bathroom whilst you were having a bath??? and now your hunting out an exscuse that your ipad mystically flipped into the bath and got ruined??
if the case is used correctly the chances of the ipad "falling" over are VERY slim! its sits very stable and erect when the back of the caqse is slotted into the slot correctly. on a STABLE SURFACE its not going anywhere unless its wobbled or knocked quite considerably!
i would suggest you had it "balanced" on the edge of the bath..and it wasnt anywhere near stable! the thing that isnt "fit for purpose" is your foolishness at using your ipad, unprotected, next to a bath of water!!
sorry for your loss, but your gonna have to bite the bullet and accept its user error rather than bad product design!
EDIT:
in fact to give you the benfit of the doubt im sitting here with my ipad (in its case standing upright) watching SIN CITY (plenty of gunfire and violent LOUD action!) and typing away on my keyboard replying to you! the Ipad is perfectly stable with me hammering away my keyboard and watching the film! its simply not going anywhere! and it certainly wont go anywhere at full volume watching this movie!!

  • MAJOR DESIGN FLAW?:  ----  IPAD in car connected to 12V outlet

i have my usb power cord plugged into a device which converts the 12V to usb power.
When I do this the IPAD works fine except for audio output. There is a loud buzzing on the audio.
When I play audio and it is not hooked up to car usb, no buzzng.
Since very cheap electronics can use car power to produce clean sound, why does not the $800+ 64GB 3G do it?
Seems like a major design flaw if I cannot plug it into the car and listen to music during long trips.

One way to suppress engine noise/digital hash - which is very common and getting worse in cars as more computers, upwards of 100 in some cars as well a multiple networks connecting them in - is to place a ferrite choke on the cable powering the device. Some USB cable have them built in. They look like a cylinder perhaps 2 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter molded onto the cable.
They can also be externally used which is probably the only way with the USB to iPad connector cable.
Radio Shack has them see [*this link*|http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3012599] for example. Their web site says they are available in most stores.

  • IPad line-out design flaw - really!!!

I just bought a cable that uses the line out of the ipad to use with my car stereo (Kensington 2-in-1 Charger and Audio Cable for iPhone/iPod)
I first tested the cable by plugging it into some external computer speaker ... hissssss. Then into my nice NAD stereo amp .... hisssss and finally in the car ....... hissssssssssssssss.
I then investigated the hissssssssing problem further and IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH IPADS ! I ordered another cable from Amazon and got the same hiss. I even went to the Apple store and myself and a Genius even tried another iPad with this cable and still got a hiss. To top it off WE USED THE OFFICIAL IPAD DOCK with the line out (using another cable with mini plugs) and still got a hiss.
So peeps, it appears that there is a major problem with the line out on the ipad. Perhaps these cables are at fault but how can you explain using a standard line out cable with mini plugs with the official Apple dock and still getting the same hiss. It's not a very loud hiss but definitely noticeable and renders the ipad line-out useless for anyone who wants to use this device to get better sound quality than the standard headphone out jack on home and car stereo units.

I plug an audio cable between the iPad the the home theater inputs and it sounds fine. And do the same to the powered speakers in the bedroom, and it sounds fine. Or connect a different cable from the iPad to the car radio's AUX to play audiobooks on the road, which sound great. And, of course, headphones sound fine too.
I use my iPod the same way and I expect to use the iPad that way also.
However, about a year ago I drove a rental car that had a USB connection to the sound system. According to the car user manual, that allowed the sound system to pick up sound from the iPod but also allowed the sound system to control the iPod via user inputs. Unfortunately, it required that the iPod have MS formatting and mine has Apple formatting so I never had a chance to play with it.
Having said all that, I suspect (but can't prove) that the OP's problem is that, with ONLY the sound out function being accessed, the noise is reasonable. The cable includes other wires that are unterminated in this configuration. Unterminated wires are a good antenna. The antenna is picking up random noise (hiss) and transferring it to the audio.

How can i make Apple review a refund for a delaminated bottom case of my macbook november 2009 model? They more than implied that it is a design flaw anyway. They make it so hard to send a possible review of such.

  • Design flaws in Apple iPad (mini)

Broken screen in the bottom right corner holding it in portrait mode. Was just holding it and it snapped with my thumb. For sure i know this is a design flaw and Apple refused to replace it. If they do not fix this with the people it will turn for the worse. Not buying another Apple product until this is resolved.
Just wondering what others' experiences are like? I know people are complaining about this same issue but I want my voice heard.

Call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to Customer Service and talk to them. You might want to have your written proof available to fax or email to them proving that this is a design flaw, it will bolster your argument.

  • Who needs apple to make the bezels for the macbook pro? Lets get together and tell apple they must! It is a design flaw.

I love my pro. I paid 2700. for it 4 years ago. I did that because I know they are meant to last. I could have purchased a regular laptop but they don't last. Until recently I was ecstatic with it. Then one day I opened it up and my screen seemed really floppy. I didn't pay much attention. Then I noticed there were two cracks on the bezel toward the bottom of the screen. It is where the stress point lies from opening and closing. A very important location. I have read up on this, it is definitely a design flaw. I know the bezels are only work 10-15 dollars if produced. But because of the lack of availability of them they sell for 80 and up. I went to an Apple store with my friend. She purchased an IPAD 3 months ago, it fell out of her car, and the screen broke. Strangely enough, they replaced her IPAD when clearly it was customer fault, although she maintained it was a weak point. Me? The genius looked at mine and said I would need a new screen and it would be 700. Then another solution for 300. I asked why they couldn't just order a bezel. He said they don't make them. Apple does not make computer parts for their own computer? Unfortunately they gave me the rude runaround (Sherman Oaks,Ca manager Gabe Nava) and treated me like I was being unreasonable when I pointed out it was a design flaw with Apple!. Now i have a computer that could last a good 2-3 more years, but with this flaw the life will be shortened. Apple is this how u treat the customers that purchase you most expensive product versus the one that purchases the low/med price product? Let me know pro owners.....lets demand apple make these bezels. They should be replaced for free, but if it were available for 15. and then 50 labor...that I can live with. The best I could get outta Gabe was 150.00 and they keep my computer for a week! I live 120 miles away from the nearest store. I know your out there folks....lets make Apple make this right.

There are online Mac reaper shops that will fix your bezel, it's nothing really.

  • Broken ipad 2 screen, 3months old, will Apple uk replace?

Hi Guys, my 6 year old dropped our ipad 2 onto a tiled floor & shattered the screen, the ipad is still working, and i have an appointment at the local Apple genius bar Sunday, i think i may have to pay £246 for the repair, so wondered if any of you good people had any suggestions on how to blag a free repair, i will be taking my son along, and beleive me he will be crying! (we have been practising all week)

    Update on broken ipad 2.......................
i know your all dying to know what happened!!!!
popped along to the Apple store on sunday with my son (no he didn't cry ,) i think he found his utopia,Apple store with its array of shiny ipads, ipods and Macs.We was met by one of the staff, he was very helpful, explained the two options, either claim on the house hold insurance & pay the excess or pay Apple £240 to replace the ipad. we went for the second option and agreed to pay Apple.
at that point he explained how sorry he was for the unfortunate accident & gave us a 10% discount (of which i will invest in acting lessons for my child ) A JOKE!!!!
A protective case is now on my shopping list, with new rules in our house hold, If the ipad is to be use by my son he can only use it from the comfort of the non tiled very soft sofa.
and they all lived happily ever after
    the end

  • Disgraceful Design Flaw and Apple Response re: Docking issues

For everyone having issues trying to dock their Ipod Touch 4th gen the problem is clearly a design flaw with the slanted angle on the units rendering them incompatible with the majority of the docking systems of IHome / Bose / Denon or whatever. If you look at the pin on the USB cable that came with the Ipod, you'll see that it is smaller then the pins of the docking stations. I find it amazing that Apple has been entirely quiet regarding this issue even after all of the posts here about the problems people are having.
With all the money and huge sales that Apple is enjoying, we should DEMAND---but they should have offered---an adapter---FREE !!! that will allow us to use our old IHomes/Bose/Denon...or whatever systems. SHAME ON APPLE---If they don't do something to correct this problem, they should realize that we will not purchase any other Apple products until this issue is resolved

YEp, at first there were tons of individual complaint messages, and so I decided to create a website with a simple list of everyone having the issue. I said so in the forums and the Apple guys locked my account for bad behaviour (!!!!) and closed down the whole thread (with hundreds of messages).
I put it up on the web, complaining out loud of this bad move for Apple PR. Even got to be interviewed by a few internet media companies from the US and Australia.. and after that I got a call from the regional executive officer of Apple Europe (in Ireland).
They unlocked my account and agreed to inspect the case. They asked me to go to a service centre where they would exchange the cover and send the deffective one to California for testing.
Even today, after 2 years, if you look for my name on google you get more than 1,000 results just about this issue.

  • Awesome Apple case, but could it stain my iPad?

First of all kudos to Apple for designing such an innovative case without traditional materials, such as leather.
I am curious if anyone's ipad has become stained by using the case.
After a week, I have used mine in humid conditions and even dampened the case slightly just to see.
So far, I have not had a single color mark on the aluminium!
I hope that it stays this way, but would love to hear from users who have had their iPad for longer.
    Many thanks!
    Cheers,
    bob

Has anyone been able to get to the bottom of this discoloration issue?
I've been using the apple case from day one (no zagg or other film). Yesterday I took it out of the case and the back is terribly stained from the case.
It's had normal use in a climate controlled environment and has never been wet.
The apple rep who sold it to me never mentioned having to take it out of the case to charge as others have mentioned, but it does not get noticeably hot when charging.
It's very disappointing to use an apple product only to find it has cosmetically ruined my iPad.

  • Using iPad 1 Apple Case On An iPad 3

Does anyone have an idea on how to make an Apple iPad 1 case fit an iPad 3 snugly? I don't care about the cutouts for the mic and camera and controls. It somewhat fits, but because the iPad 3 is thinner and has beveled edges it moves around a little in the case. I have tried a cuple of cases made for the iPad 2/3 that are similar in design to the original Apple iPad case but they're not as supportive as the Apple one. Also, I like the material the Apple case is made out of. If you know of a case made for the iPad 3 that's virtually identical to the original Apple case, please suggest it.

Do you mean this Griffin Elan Folio?

I tried that one but the material seemed a little too flimsy.

  • Should i be able to replace my broken ipad in jeddha apple store?

    hi apple family
i bought an ipad 2 from sydney apple store more than a year ago.it's no warranty since its been more than a year.my ipad screen has broken down after i have been Bangladesh.I have a plan to visit jeddha in the last of this month.should i be able to replace/fixup my ipad in jeddha apple store? looking for an authentic answer.
    Best regards
    Irfan.

It should charge independetely from the fact that it you are watching videos or not (at least mine does), eventhough it might take longer.
Are you sure the charger is ok? Mine started giving me some problems and it would charge some times and others it didn't. Therefore I thought it was the computer and not the charger (usually they just burn and death is a quick, not a process). Turns out it was some contact thing. I am sure that you established the right connection to the video watching, but maybe you just seat more confortable in the sofa and the contact is lower...?
Also, people at the apple store did not encourage me at all to buy a more powerful charger. They said it is best to use the same power it came with...

  • I backed up my broken ipad, returned it to Apple got it replaced and have now accidently backup'd on my computer over the top of my original Ipad Back up.  how do I get previous copy of my back up??

i backed up my broken ipad to my computer yesterday, returned it to Apple & got it replaced today and have now accidently backup'd on my computer over the top of my original Ipad Back up from yesterday.  Can anyone advise how do I get previous copy of my back up??

Look at this knowledge base article on iOS backups to iTunes, note where the backups are kept for your type of computer, Windows or Mac, go to that Library location and see if there are any other files with the same name as the current backup but with a different extension and date/time stamp.  If so you can edit the extension of the current backup and then change the extension of the previous backup so it looks like what was on the current and the do a restore.  iTunes will think the older backup is now new and use it to restore.
If there are no such files then you over-wrote the backup and it is gone.

  • Where can I buy an ipad2 case with the same design as the case for the original ipad?

I thought the case for the original ipad was great, but it doesn't quite fit the ipad2.  Is there somewhere I can find a case with that same design, but fitted for the ipad2?

  • Due to the rumored heat problems with the iPad 3, is there a danger in using a leather case design for it.

I recently purchased a 64 GB Verizon LTE iPad,  along with a Bear Motion leather case designed specifically for that model. I've been reading a lot about the heat problems with the new iPad and although I haven't noticed them on mine, I'm worried that putting it in the case may cause worse problems. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Unless you have a defective iPad you should be fine.  The only time it should be heating up is when you're running an intensive app like a game that's working the quad-core processor and the screen.  I bought a Targus leather case for mine and play InfinityBlade2 on it and haven't noticed any heating issues with mine, but the part holding the iPad is plastic, so it can disipate heat better.
If your iPad gets too hot it'll warn you, so I'd use it for now and see what happens.  It'll shut down before it causes any permanent damage.

  • Apple's iPad case - How to get iPad out of?!?

As snug as the case is, once an iPad is in Apple's iPad case, I can't seem to get it out of the case! Is there a simple trick to getting the iPad out of Apple's case?

First open the flap holding it in.
Then, with the front cover open and away from you (iPad is face up and the right edge is toward you) pull the edge of the case that is facing you toward you about 1/4 inch until it drops over the edge of the iPad.
Then, use both thumbs to push on the iPad while using the fingers of both hands to hold the edge.
After it has moved about 1/2 inch release the edges, grab the outer edge with your off hand (left if you are right handed) using your left thumb and forefinger and use the thumb of the other hand to push the iPad out and away from you. Try to keep the thumb in the center of the iPad so it doesn't bind.
After doing this a couple of times you will get to where you can remove even a tightly bound iPad in about three seconds.
