Archive Utility Quit Unexpectedly

Every time I try to unzip a file using Archive Utility, it says "Archive Utility Quit Unexpectedly". No, relaunching it does not do anything. I have restarted my computer to no prevail and several things I've tried on the internet do not work. Currently using a Macbook Pro, with OSX 10.9.3.

You need to update your OS X to v10.9.4
Click the Apple  top left in your screen.
From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Restart your Mac.
Now, control click the folder you want to compress then click:  "Compress (folder name"
To decompress, double click the folder.
OS X Mountain Lion: Compress and uncompress files and folders  >    Instructions work for v10.9 Mavericks as well.

  • Getting "The Application Disk Utility quit unexpectedly"

Hi all. New to the forum.
Went to do my weekly disk Utility this afternoon and it won't open from my applications. Keep getting the error "The Application Disk Utility quit unexpectedly". Now This morning i did allow firefox to do an update, not sure if this has caused some issue. Running 10.5.6 and have been for some time with no issues. I've ran the install disk and ran Utility from there with no problems however there was a ton of stuff it was correcting. Repaired Disk as well. Restarted, tried to pull from applications, again no luck same message. I then ran Safe Boot, Reset PRAM and again still no fix. I removed Firefox, chess and some other game's I've downloaded from the apple site just to be safe. Still nothing. Anyone advise? I'm set up to meet with a Mac Gen. at the local apple store in 2 days. Anyone have any idea's? The only change I have done recently is the firefox update. UGGGG!!!

Have you tried to run Disk Utility from a system Install Disk or start-up from a system install disk and run disk utility from the disk?

  • The application Printer Setup Utility quit unexpectedly

    Hi All,
I'm using 10.4.11, trying to add a printer. In 'Default Browser', I click on 'More Printers', and I receive the following error, The application Printer Setup Utility quit unexpectedly.
Done all the basics, reset permissions, updated latest software, no help.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    To The Apple Discussion Boards!
Did you reboot your computer after repairing permissions & installing? If so, trash the com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist file & restart your computer.

  • HP Utility Quit Unexpectedly Error

I can't scan from my HP Deskjet 3054 to my Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.5.  I can scan by laying the document on the glass if I start the scanning from my computer but even then I can't scan multiple pages from the paper loader.
When I click on Scan Settings in the HP Utility folder the HP utility quits unexpectedly.  I downloaded the latest full driver but when I try to download the fix for this error it says I have a higher version of the scan component already on my computer.

    Hi richieleland,
thanks for your post and welcome to the HP Forum.
It might already be helpful if your repair disk permissions. You can do this from Disk Utility - First Aid tab, select your volume and then hit Repair Disk Permissions.
Then restart the Mac and check if you can now open and work with HP Utility. If it still fails, try again installing the fix. But if thats not possible, you may download and install the HP Printer Driver Update 2.16.1 - either through Apple Software Update or if not found there, download from Apple website: HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X
    Best regards,
    Mandy

  • Disk Utility quits unexpectedly

    Hi
I have recently noticed that disk utility quits unexpectedly whenever I open it.  Here's what I've tried so far:
    1.  Boot in recovery mode, and repair permissions and verify the disk (I only have a single internal disk), which works fine and says it is successful.
    2.  Trash any DiskUtility preferences files (local and in /Library/Preferences)
    3.  Reset my PRAM
    4.  Try disk utility from a different user
but none of this has helped.  When I click on the "send information to Apple" the relevant bit seems to be:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000068
I'm running Lion 10.7.1 on a quad core MacPro with 12Gb RAM.
    Any ideas?
    Regards/Thanks
    Shaun

    Hi
I took your suggestion but with a slightly different twist and it worked...  Rather than do a full re-install of Lion, I inserted the lion boot disk I had created, and righ-clicked on Packages/BaseSystemBinaries.pkg and just installed that, assuming that's where Disk Utility would live.
Took 3 or 4 minutes, and Disk Utility is now back!  Yay!
    Many thanks.

  • Application "Raid Utility" quits unexpectedly

I have a Mac Pro (2x3Ghz Xeon, 16MB RAM), shipped with the Apple Mac Pro RAID card. This machine came with with MacOS 10.4.10 and a Leopard "CPU drop-in DVD".
I've done the following procedure twice and gotten the same result -- the Raid Utility application "unexpectedly quits".
    Procedure:
Set up the raid using the Raid Utility on the 10.4.10 installation CD
Clean install of MacOS 10.4.10. Checked the raid utility, it works
Use the CPU drop-in DVD to upgrade to Leopard. Checked the raid utility, works.
Run software update to install Leopard updates.
Raid utility does not work. Opens briefly, then "quits unexpectedly".
Would be nice to do a clean install of Leopard, but the upgrade DVD requires Tiger to be on the system already. The retail leopard DVD doesn't seem to work at all with this machine, possibly due to the RAID card.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, or if anyone has suggestions... In addition to not being able to monitor the health of the raid, now not able to dismiss a "battery is not charged" warning.

Clone OS X onto the RAID after you have it installed and upgraded on another disk, and after you build the RAID in Leopard. That way you also get a backup of OS X in the process.

  • Disk Utility quits unexpectedly every time on launch

Disk Utility is quitting on launch. I'm also having problems with all applications crashing when I try to print.
I've repaired permissions and disk errors using the startup CD that came with the G5. I've ran the hardware test CD and passed all the tests.
I first noticed the problems with the Disk Utility application when the computer failed to mount a disk image.
    I have a G5 iMac iSight running 10.4.11

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Does it crash running from the Install Disk?

A Photosmart 6525 printer connected through WiFi to a Mac Pro under Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
Everything seems to be allright except for the "Scan to computer" feature which cannot be enabled.

This does work fine under Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

  • Installing software for a new HP 5530 printer, the utility quit, Apple notified.  What now?

I have Yosemite on my iMac and was installing software for a new HP 5530 printer. Message says Utility quit unexpectedly. Apple has been Notified.  What do I do now?

Thanks you all so much. It's great to know there are people interested in being helpful and sharing their knowledge.  Turned out that some scanner functions worked, but scan to computer did not.The installation of the HP Utility was somehow originally messed up, and what it took was a brief UNPLUG of my iMac (restart or shutdown did not do it), followed by uninstall and reinstall.  HP actually called me  today after a chat session was cut off yesterday and asked if I would like to continue!  Good help on both sides.

  • How can I reformat my Mac Book Pro without using disc utility? My laptop keeps crashing, and needs to have everything reinstalled, but disc utility will no longer open, saying it 'quit unexpectedly'. I'm running Mac OS X10.6.8. I've lost install CD.

My laptop keeps crashing. This seems to happen only when it's streaming from sites such as Netflix, YouTube or Spotify.
Also, it stopped being able to run iTunes, and can't download Yosemite.
I want to wipe it and reinstall everything - I've already done a full back up.
The problem is disc utility will no longer open, saying it 'quit unexpectedly':
I'm running Mac OS X10.6.8 and I've lost install CD.
I have no idea what to do, but need to get this sorted as quickly as possible as I need my laptop for work.

Even if you could open Disk Utility you can't reformat a disk while you are booted from it. You will have to use the install CD. Ring the Apple Online Store at the number given at bottom left of this page and give them the serial number of your Mac. You should be able to get the Snow Leopard install disks for a nominal fee.

  • Archive Utility won't auto Quit anymore

Prior to updating my March 2009 Duo Core iMac to Yosemite, Archive Utility always Auto Quit immediately after expanding Zip archives.  But now in Yosemite, Archive Utility expands the archive but then stays open (green icon remains in the Dock with black dot beneath).  And sadly, I see nothing within Archive Utility's preferences to "Auto Quit."  How do I make Archive Utility AUTO QUIT under OS X Yosemite?
    Thanks.

Surely some of you experienced people here in this forum must know.
I look forward to your kind advice and insights.
    Thank you.

  • Microsoft Clip Gallery quit unexpectedly

I know this seems like more of a Microsoft problem than a Mac problem, but no one on the Microsoft for Mac forums seems to have a clue. So I thought I'd check here.
I have a 15" MacBook Pro (Intel) running OS 10.5.6. I have had Office 2008 installed and running fine for several months. But about six weeks ago, for no reason I can identify, Microsoft Clip Gallery stopped working. If I go to the Insert menu in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint and select to insert Clip Art, the Clip Gallery starts to launch, then quits, and I get the following error messages:
"The application Microsoft Clip Gallery quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple" (I get three buttons: Ignore, Report, and Relaunch.)
At the same time, from within the Office application I'm running (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint), I get this error message:
"[Word] cannot launch Microsoft Clip Gallery. Microsoft Clip Gallery may not be properly installed on your computer, or you may not have enough memory available to launch Microsoft Clip Gallery."
I have 4 GB of SDRAM and no other programs running at the same time, so I doubt it's memory problem. Anyway, I reported this on Microsoft's forums for Mac users, as you can see here: http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/MacOtherProducts/237/17
A couple of nice and knowledgeable people tried to help me, but with no success. We tried everything from a clean install of Office to an Archive & Install of Mac OS. But still, no luck.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and does anyone have a solution?

    I HAVE SOLVED IT!
After many headaches, reinstalling OS X a number of times, reinstalling office, etc. etc. etc., I finally came across an obscure post regarding Equation Editor doing the same kind of thing (quitting unexpectedly). Turns out that this all depends upon how one's hard drive is formatted. If your drive is formatted as Mac OS *case sensitive*, then this problem occurs. The reason is that Office is looking for the Microsoft error reporting tool in "Merp.framework" but the file is called "merp.framework" (lower-case m). On a drive that is formatted case-sensitive, these are considered to be two different files, so Office thinks that Merp.framework doesn't exist.
So, if anyone else is having this problem, here's what to do:
The solution, though it is a pain, is to reformat your hard drive. (Making an alias called Merp.framework that points to merp.framework won't work; I tried it.) I recommend using Time Machine (if you're on Leopard) to back up all your user folders, applications, etc. Then put in your Leopard installation disk, start the installation process, and allow it to restart your computer. When it reaches the installation screen, click on the Utilities menu at the top, and select Disk Utility. Select your hard drive, go to the Erase tab, and select to format as "Mac OS (journaled)." (This is where you must NOT select case-sensitive.) Click the Erase button and allow it to do its thing. It shouldn't take but a minute or so, unless you do a secure format, which wipes the whole drive. Once that's done, quit Disk Utility and proceed to follow the instructions to reinstall OS X. When that is about done, it will ask you if you want to transfer a previous identity -- one of the options is to transfer files and folders from a Time Machine backup. So if you used Time Machine, select that option, and let it go from there.
Remember to run Software Update when you get back to the desktop screen so you can download the 10.5.7 (or whatever update is most recent) files.
Voilà! When you get back to your desktop, you can run any Office app, use Clip Gallery, Equation Editor, etc. with no problems.
FYI: if you aren't using Leopard, I recommend using Backup (downloadable from Apple's Web site) or a similar program and have it back up all your user files, applications, the Library folder, etc. This will save you having to reinstall all your applications after you reinstall OS X. At most, you might be prompted for a license code here or there.
