ASM LABLED DISK NOT SHOWN IN GRID INSTALLATION

Hi Guru,
Im new to oracle, just started, we are installing ORCALE 11gr2 11.2.0.3 single node cluster for an test environment on RHEL 6.2.
we installed oracle prerequisite with yum provided by oracle with following command.
yum install "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" ##did all pathch, rpm & parameter set automatically.
create users oracle & grid with required group.

Hello,
To resolve this issue, first reconfigure your ASMlib using following steps:
[root@host02 ~]# ll -ltr /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK0*
brw-rw---- 1 grid asmadmin 8, 17 May 15 11:05 /dev/oracleasm/disks/ASMDISK01

In the middle of the GRID infrastructure installation,at the window "Create ASM Disks", the disks are not listed.
I have installed and configured Asm lib through configure command

2. /etc/init.d/oracleasm-discover ORCL:*
i was able to discover the disks
I had change the Discovery path in the "Create ASM Disks" to ORCL:* still it is not appearing
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
You can change Discovery Path of ASM to : /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
It's same result and Oracle recommend do that in case of discover (ORCL:*) not working.

• ASM candidate disks not found

Hi all,
I am trying to install 2-node 11gR2 RAC on CentOS 5.6 using VMWare Fusion. I'm in the middle of Grid Infrastructure installation and while choosing the ASM diskgroups I don't see any candidate disks but when I click on all disks i can see them but can't select them.
I tried installing the grid before and ended up with and issue running the root.sh on all the nodes so had to deconfigure the grid binaries using the rootcrs.pl and then deinstalled the grid software using the ./desintall utility.
I'm not sure what has went wrong now when tried installing again ...I ran the cluvfy utility ..it doesn't show any errors.
Any advice on this is appreciated
Thanks
Sarat

I tried this Thread but didnt work for me its the exact issue im facing ..as shown in this thread.. I ran the below commands on both the nodes
Reinstall Grid infrastructure ASM no cadiates.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/diskname bs=1024 count=100

• Rating / Label "Buttons" active, although not shown in Grid View

While I was investigating the reason for JPEG images being written back with no obvious changes applied to them (see also How to filter on Metadata Status "Has been changed"?) I noticed something I think is a bug:
Becaus it sometimes happened to me that I unintentially changed the rating for a picture because I wanted to click into the frame of an image to select it as the only image, I have set my Library View Options as follows for Compact Cell Extras (for a better description also see Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?):
Index Number checked
Top Label checked with File Name
Rotation unchecked
Bottom Label unchecked with Rating and Label
Now, if I click into the area, where rating or color label would show (if shown), the rating of the images changes. So I am clicking on an option I don't even see ...
This was one of the reasons, why metadata in pictures sometimes would get updated without me knowing why. Anybody else who has experienced this behaviour?

P.S: My workaround now is to have Common Photo Settings shown in the bottom label.

Yes it's a bug. I see it on Mac platform.

• Disk not found - solaris 10 installation

Hello *!
First of all: thank you for taking the time.
The problem: trying to install solaris 10 on a Enterprise 220R with a D1000 Storage Array attached. The configuration, as seen in OB, looks like this:
/pci@1f,4000/scsi@2
Target f
Unit 0 Proc Symbios D1000
/pci@1f,4000/scsi@3
Target 0
Unit 0 Disk Seagate SX318203LC
Target 6
Unit 0 CD Toshiba DVD-ROM
the alias for disk is /pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/disk@0,0
the probe list entry looks like:
pcib-probe-list 1,3,2,4,5
When I boot off the cd I get to the start of the solaris installation and after configuring the network parameters the insatll stops because of no disk beeing found. Now, if I insert a disk in the D1000, this one will be recognized and used as the install disk.
I guess it has something to do with the fact, that the controller the D1000 attaches to is listed before the onboard one. So, my question: how can I tell the solaris 10 install program to search also the onboard controler? Is there an obvious parameter I overlooked?
Thank you very much and in advance for any help on this topic!
Best regards,
Christian

I think that the problem is more than likely going to be either a faulty disk, or more likely the wrong path that you have. What you can do is the following:
1. From the ok prompt insert the solaris cd 1 of 2 and type 'boot cdrom -s'
This will bring the system up from the CD using a memory stored kernel that is taken from the CD. Once here you can do your normal checks, format, etc, to check the status and paths for the disks.

• External disk not shown in finder or diskutil

When I connect an external harddrive to my Macbookpro it does not show on Finder, Diskutil (but the hdd disk starts). USB works fine. If I plug in FW when computer is shut down or sleep it works fine. Cant find out why. Tried with different cables and disks.

You could run a Apple Hardware Test but I think the solution will be determined at a genius bar session. I would suggest you make an appointment.
Ciao.

• No disk choices shown during guest installation

VB 4.3.22 installed on Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8.5), trying to install Snow Leopard (10.6) as guest. The installation has progressed to where the guest desktop appears and a little later it wants me to "Select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X". But there are no choices in the box, the "Install" and "Customize" buttons are gray, and the only choice is "Go Back". Going back doesn't improve the situation, nor does deleting everything and starting all over with the guest install. Please see screen shots. The first is the empty selection box. The second one shows the VirtualBox VMs--SnowLeopard files along with the Manager window.

As far as I'm know, only Mac OS X Server is supported in a guest environment.

• Two questions on ASM for Grid Installation

Grid Infrastructure version : 11.2.0.3
Platform : Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.6
Question1.
oracle:dba will be owner of our Grid software (not grid user). What should be permission set for LUNs ( /dev/sda1, ..) before the grid installation ?
Question2.
Currently, the shared LUNs appear as
/dev/sdb ,
/dev/sdc,
/dev/sdd
does a single partition need to be created before presenting LUN to ASM ?
For example, I should choose p (primary partition ) below. Right ?

• How do I define 2 disk groups for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window

Hello,
It may sound too easy to someone but I need to ask it anyway.
I am in the middle of building Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 on Linux. I have 2 storage and I created three LUNs in each of storage so 6 LUNs in total look in both of servers. If I choose NORMAL as a redundancy level, is it right to choose my 6 disks those are created for OCR_VOTE at the grid installation? Or should I choose only 3 of them and configure mirroring at latter stage?
The reason why I am asking this is that I didn't find any place to create asm disk group for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window. In fact, I would to like to create two disk groups in which one of groups contains three disks those were brought from storage 1 and the second one contains rest three 3 disk that come from the last storage.
I believe that you will understand the manner and help me on choosing proper way.
Thank you.

Hi,
You have 2 Storage H/W.
You will need to configure a Quorum ASMDisk to store a Voting Disk.
Because if you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
You must have the odd number of voting disk (i.e 1,3 or 5) one voting disk per ASM DISK, So 1 Storage will hold more voting disk than another storage.
(e.g 3 Voting Disk - 2 voting stored in stg-A and 1 voting disk store in stg-B)
If fail the storage that hold the major number of Voting disk the whole cluster (all nodes) goes down. Does not matter if you have a other storage online.
It will happen:
https://forums.oracle.com/message/9681811#9681811
You must configure your Clusterware same as RAC extended

ASM configured Disks are "DISK1, DISK2 AND DISK3" and the Group Name is "+DATA".
The Problem is when i want to create Database and chose ASM configured disk for Database storage, at the database creation process on 27% an error occur that is "ORA-03114 Not connected to Oracle". Sir but when i chose File System for Database Storage, Database created successfully.

• New added disk in vm virtual box not shown in solaris

hi,
I have added new disk in VM virtual box to use it for asm, using storage tree in Vm virtual box i have added two new disks but after that when i start my OS (solaris 10) and use format command it only shows my one disk not the added disk which i add in storage. Any idea why the new added disks are not shown .
Thanks
Zeeshan

Navigate to the repository tab in OVMM and right-click on the storage repo, where you created/copied the vm disk image file. From the pop-up menu choose refresh repository.
That should scan you repository and make the new disk visible on OVMM.

• Disks are not shown in Failover Cluster Manager

Hi All,
As per the validation report we have successfully configured cluster between two nodes. Active Node
my computer and failover cluster manager:
storage shows all the available clustered disks but not shown when clicked on active node in failover cluster manager.
Had a glimpse on few earlier posts and all I understood is that Windows Server 2008R2 has a bug and MS is working on it.
Do we have any fix for this issue? Please suggest.
Grateful to your time and support.

Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva

Got the solution in fact it's not a solution it's just an awareness on how the disks are available in fail-over cluster manager.
1) All the available disks are shown in fail-over cluster manager "storage".
2) While installation it asks us to add available disks for SQL Server then add accordingly. (Ex: E:drive for data files and L:drive for Log files)
3) Once the installation is done you see those disks in MSSQL (SQL Server) group.
Means when you click on Active node it should show you MSSQL (SQL Server) group in which you can find network name, network ip, E: & L: Drives, SQL Server and Agent services.
Note: MSDTC and Quorum are also clustered disks which can reside (Preferably Active Node) in any of the nodes but automatically fail-overs to active node in case of any passive node failures.
