Attention LG - 55LH90 Owners!

I've read quite a bit on the lip sync issue and have a few quick questions, but first I'll confim I spoke with a local LG service center who advised LG announced there is no software fix.
I really like this TV's specs and if I can get around the sync issue I still want to buy one.  I don't really care about using optical out from the TV, so I'm wondering:
(1) Does the sync issue only occur when using optical audio out from the TV?
(2) Does the sync issue ever occur on the TV's internal speakers?
(3) Is there an opposite sync issue if you run audio direct from source to sound system, bypassing TV entirely?
If I can get confirmation that it's possible to just take the sync issue out of the equation, I'll do it.  I don't care if I can't use the TV's optical outs.  Coax would be nice, but not strictly necessary as I can just use a separate audio switch.   Please help me understand if this is possible on TVs that have the problem!

I do not personally own an LG TV but from what I read in the thread it only happens through the HDMI input.
You can find out the info in this thread

Herheromon I am sure he is advertising about some tool is you check his threads he is just posting information about same tool all his links points to some forum related to data recovery.
Specifically for question it was about Log file size increasing, how would recovery tool help and why it is required at first place. Sad part is MSFT CSG has marked it as answer which IMO should not have been done. I guess somehow she missed.

  • How to stop the "renew cloud subscription"

I cancelled my Cloud membership a couple of months ago, when I purchased the Master suite. I haven't uninstalled the Cloud downloads yet, which I'm sure is the problem. Do I need to uninstall all of the softwares now and reinstall the purchased one's again, or can I just uninstall the Cloud software and be cool?
I've also gotten an error message when opening up Illustrator, saying that I need to rt click the .exe file so that it can be repaired, not sure what the heck that means but it's happened everytime I've opened that software since I bought it and it's a little disturbing, do you thing that doing the above will correct that issue?
    Thanks for your help!

Yeah but I wouldn't be surprised if some new features for cloud users are held back and happen soon after the release and are chalked up to Adobe had to make a cut off for distribution (how it normally goes), so the cloud members feel like they are getting more and the perpetual users are again left to ponder the cloud. Nice carrot on a stick system the cloud presents.

;-) I really wouldn't be too impressed or that surprised, here is why....
Your thread title - How to stop the "renew cloud subscription" - along with your message stating you cancelled your "Adobe Creative Cloud" membership, well these two things brought out the Adobe Staff as they want everyone they can to get on the Cloud, and no doubt made them cringe at the thought of people canceling the program even though your allowed to as its your choice depending on your terms. Then you have the users who understand the facade of the cloud marketing machine and many prefer to own a perpetual license, we chime in because we are not in agreement with the whole rent your software idea and to pay money to be Adobe's Official Beta Testers via the cloud, which is marketed as cutting edge new features for cloud members.
Had your thread been something about a feature not working properly since illustrator CS2, or missing since AI8, it would more than likely went unnoticed by Adobe, even if submitted officially via the aptly named "wishform" (Appropriate name as thats what most of it ends up being, hopes and wishes that go unfulfilled or are fulfilled 14 years later like the Package Files feature). New features (regardless of however half backed they are) and marketing thats what make money, while missing features, and unfulfilled proper implementation of features, well they are just what they are for the most part, a dying request and or thread.
Cloud threads are of top echelon importance! I am however ready for some cloud dissipation actually and more sunshine being shed on long time perpetual license owners, not just the thought of a cloudy future, but rather some better attention to regular owners. Sadly as the weather people go, these requests and interests are much like weather forecasts, entirely inaccurate, or even worse being held in secrecy hoping we move on to cloudy days. Bring back the sunshine Adobe.
Welcome to the forum by the way, as you stated it is a great resource for learning and growing your skills with so many skilled individuals around here thats for sure. Get involved and dive into the forum. Sunny or Cloudy at least the forum is by-partial for the most part. ;-)

  • ATTENTION ALL 27" iMAC OWNERS: PLEASE READ THIS THREAD

Hello. Firstly, apologies for the attention-grabbing title, but ultimately I need as many people to test this out as I possibly can.
Here's a basic run down of my problem: if I leave a window open on my display for about 10 mins, and then minimise it, and bring up a dark grey background such as iPhoto, Spotify, or a set desktop flat colour of dark grey, I can still see the text and display pictures semi-burnt into my screen, temporarily. They do fade after a while, but it is still annoying that it does this (I am a graphic designer, so I could potentially be working with dark images, and I don't fancy seeing my facebook messages over the top of my work).
I had this issue with the iMac which I purchased last Thursday, and I returned it to Stormfront (my local Apple Authorised Reseller) and they acknowledged the issue and gave me a completely new iMac. However, yet again, this computer has the exact same issue, which makes me think it may be an issue with quite a few of the 27" iMac's.
Therefore, I would like to ask if you, as the owner of a 27" iMac have a few spare minutes so that you can help me find out if this is a rare issue and I've just been unlucky, or if it's a wider issue with several iMac's.
Please follow the step by step guide I have created below: the burn-in effect image is not a screenshot, however I have recreated the effect on Photoshop so you know what to look for. Thank you in advance for reading this, and helping me out; please let me know what results you get from this test.
I am especially interested in users of the current Thunderbolt 27" iMac, with the high-end spec (3.1 GHz Intel Quad Core i5/4GB RAM/1TB HDD/Radeon HD 6970M HD). Please, if you own a different model also carry out these tests - your screen may have the same issue.
Step 1: Change your desktop background to a dark grey colour. Go to System Preferences > Desktop and Screensaver > Desktop > Apple/Solid Colours > Cutom Colour... > Using the greyscale slider under the second colour picker tab, enter a value of around 15%. Set this as your desktop.
Step 2: Open a white-backgrounded application. Position it somewhere on your screen (preferably the left as this is where I experience it at it's worst), and leave the application there for around 10 minutes.
Step 3: Once 10 minutes is up, minimise the window, and study the area where the window was. If you have this issue, you will still be able to make out the elements from the open window (in my case, my Twitter followees display pictures and tweets). Here is a mocked up version of how it appears, created in Photoshop. As the issue is hardware related (I think), it doesn't appear in screenshots. You can view this image at full size here: http://cl.ly/AZYD.
Step 4: Please let me know the result, and the specs of your computer. I am contemplating phoning Apple to make them aware of this issue, but wanted to see if it's just me before deciding it's a hardware issue.
For me, I think I'll wait until the next Lion update is released, in case it offers a graphics driver update. Otherwise, I guess this one will be going back too.
Thanks guys, and I await your responses.

What you are seeing is called Display Persistence.  All LCD displays have a certain amount.  Some less some more.  This includes models from the same build.  I have linked Apples response to what your seeing.  I did the setup you said and saw no persistence on mine.  If I had let it set longer I am sure it would have shown up.

  • Solved: Attention T510 owners: Audio / sound volume goes up and down

    Hi all,
I am a new owner of a T510, and have discovered the audio goes up and down when listening to music through the speakers, running on battery. I would like to get in contact with other T510 owners, who can test if their unit has the same problem - try this:
    1. Check all the settings in the SmartAudio control panel (using the newest driver) - making sure no EQ is set, nor VOIP settings or anything like that.
    2. Check that no plugin was loaded in the sound control options (I am using Windows 7, 32 bit).
Now try and play this youtube song, and listen to the volume at around 40 seconds when the lead singer begins - does your audio volume go up and then down again when he stops? If you listen to the complete song, it goes up and down some more times.

    /Kenneth
    Edit  #1:
I can unfortunately now add, that the problem is also there when using the AC adapter. It is so **bleep** annoying the volume fluctuates, and it is VERY easy to hear on the above link. Hoping to hear from other T510 users what their findings is. For information I can tell I am using the power plan called "Maximum Performance", in the power manager from Lenovo. The T510 model is a 4349-4JG.
    /Kenneth
    Edit #2:
I have now had time to test it some more, using another HDD (didnt want to reinstall windows on my SSD, hehe) - and can hereby say that it seems to be a bug in the audio driver / SmartAudio control panel. Clean Windows 7, 32 bit, has the problems - but when you disable the VOIP function in the Smart Audio control panel, the problem disappears (actually it was just the VOIP function that was active before). If you then try to enable the VOIP function again, the "problem" does not come back (hence the bug comes into action now). After this test, I put my SSD back into the laptop, and tried to mess with the VOIP functions (again, had already tried to mess with it), and it did not do anything (hence the bug is active now). Therefore I reinstalled the audio driver - tried to check if the problem was there, it was. Then I did the same procedure as on the other HDD, tried to disable the VOIP (before I installed anything else and such!), and the problem is now gone. And the result now is that when I try and enable the VOIP function again, the problem does not come back (hence the bug is now active) = me happy
    In short terms:
The bug can either have the VOIP enabled and you can not disable it, or it can be the other way around - it cant be enabled. To "turn" the bug around, reinstall the audio driver :-)
    /Kenneth

    Hi,
Ive been having this problem with my Compaq CQ60-615DX for almost a year now. When im listening to music I can hear the audio going up and down through it. One sec itll be loud and  the next its like the audio being turned down (but the volume bar does not move). I also have SmartAudio with the Conexant High Definition. So, I see that you have figured it out. Ive tried to understand what you said but im not very literate with computers. Could you explain how to stop it step by step? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I've created a community specific to this vintage/rare Mac
Come share pictures, stories and tips/tricks for the 20th Anniversary Mac here: http://appletam.ning.com

You may want to try the Audio TuneUp 2.0. It was originally designed for Mac OS 8.1 but given your circumstance I think you should try it anyways. Some 6400 owners report still benefitting from the model specific update for that Mac too. Here's a link to the download: http://download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Othe r_System/AudioTuneUp2.0.img.bin.
I hope it helps to get rid of the static/buzzing noise. That's what the update was originally designed for so I think it might still work under Mac OS 9.1 too.

  • Attention N200 Owners, I found a fix for the fan

In an attempt to improve battery life, I made an important discovery. Apparently lenovo is using the desktop CPU P States instead of the mobile ones. With my T7200 running at 2GHz, this means it's using 1.35V instead of the 1.225V it's supposed to be. This mistake on lenovo's part means increased heat output and a fan that has no idea how fast to run. Here's how to fix it:
    1. Download and Install RightMark CPU Clock Utility. http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml
    2. Open the utility and select "Advanced CPU Settings" in the pane on the left side.
    3. Towards the bottom under "Intel Core 2 Family Advanced Features", change the "CPU type selection" setting from desktop to mobile.
In  order to make this change stick, you have to make the RightMark CPU Clock Utility run at startup.
    1. Click on settings in the pane on the left side.
    2. Check the box next to "Run at Startup"
    3. Select "via Startup Folder" in the pull down box.
    4. You may also want to check the "Start Minimized to Tray" box above, or the main window will open every time you start the computer.
Untill lenovo does something about this problem, this is all you can do. However, you will see an improvement in battery life and a reduction in noise, along with a fan that does not have ADD.

    @iamdh
He doesn´t change the voltage of the CPU fan which could indeed be a little risky. He changes the voltage of the CPU which is according to CPU-Z by default (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) a little higher than the default voltage of the CPU.
I also noticed this before and did exactly the same with my 3000 N200. The difference is just that my N200 has a T5250 CPU but as it seems the same overvoltage problem. With his workaround the heat and powerconsumption is especially under high load reduced, resulting in a higher runtime.
On the other hand this has hardly any effect on the fan spining up an down when the CPU is idle.
    Sorry, small addition:
I used another way to get the "right" voltages for my CPU. When I open RMClock my CPU already is marked as an mobile CPU, so this is not the problem in my case. But you can also change voltages for the different Pstates in RMClock manually. And this is what I did to get the default voltages for my CPU. Interested ones can find the necessary information here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=2637648 (They describe how to undervolt a CPU but as a start it is just enough to supply the CPU with the default voltage instead of the "higher than above" voltage supplied by for example my 3000 N200)
Just for information: The default Voltage of my T5250 CPU is 0.95 Volt at idle and 1.25 at load. According to CPU-Z my CPU gets 1.063 Volt at idle and 1.363 Volt at load.

  • Attention 4g owners: i need you to try something for me.

Turn on your ipod, and hold the ipod in your hand. Using one finger, apply some pressure to the middle of the screen, it doesn't have to be that much pressure at all. Like less pressure than you would have to use on a stapler. When you apply the pressure, does anyhting happen?

well this is actually my second 4g. my first one had some light leaking from the left side. this one has light leaking from the right side, but its far less noticible. would best buy do another exchange? cause they didnt really seem all that willing to do the first exchange. i dont wanna annoy them lol.
wait, couldnt i take it to an apple store and exchange it there? or would that not work?

  • ATTENTION SSD OWNERS: How to prolong drive life.

One disadvantage of an SSD hard drive, is the number of times you can 'write' data to blocks on the drive, before the drive is wore our. On a mechanical drive, you can reformat it by writing 'zeros' to it and virtually making the drive 'like new' again. You can't do this with an SSD drive. In fact, I was told by OCZ support that writing zeros to an SSD drive can actually damage the drive, and was advised to never do that. With that in mind, I have a tip you can use to prolong the 'write' life of your SSD drive.
It's usual for the OS X filesystem to record the ‘last access’ time of every file. This means that every time a file is read, a write is made on the filesystem to record this action. This isn't necessary and can wear a SSD drive out prematurely from thousands of these unnecessary writes to the drive. Download this file and follow my instructions in the ReadMe to turn this action off. Note: this will not affect the "Date Modified" recorded action.

The biggest factors that determine a SSD's lifecycle, is the type/brand of Flash memory used and the type of controller the drive uses. TRIM can also play into the picture, but in the case of the OCZ Vertex 3 drive I put in my MBP, I was told by OCZ support that TRIM does not need to be enabled on a Mac, because their drives have "garbage collection" technology built in them (via their SandForce controller), which basically does the same thing as TRIM.

I would recommend turning off recorded access time on all SSDs. Do you know if TRIM is enabled on your Air? If not, I have some software that will enable it running on a Mac with Snow Leopard. Lion will ship with TRIM enabled for all SSD drives.

  • Save first 45 day 4G iPhone deserted owners

    Hello everyone.
I am trying to understand the mindset of those who offer Cheese to the whiners and talk smack at them.
The iPhone is a ground breaking product. Apple is famous for its rock-solid products both on the hardware and software fronts that last long years of indulgent while depreciating slower than the rest of competitors. This is one of many indications to a high standard professional company. Every once in a while the market might have experienced a slight cage rattle like the one with iPod color / photo or the IBM / intel fast switch (which perfectly fits the contemporary technological demand on an even keel of profit), but in the end of the day Apple has always had an outstanding reputation of creating unbeatable long lasting products, while consistently be ahead of their time. More importantly, Apple has been by far the best known customer caring company in the business, partially because they deeply believe in their products. Hundreds of thousands of people who swarmed the stores for the iPhone, whole heartedly believed that the pricey tag Apple set seven months prior to release is in the lines of being ahead of competition, as Apple eloquently reasoned the iPhone to be the sexiest, most innovative and smartest phone of all its kind.
The problem at hand is, if the iPhone was irrefutably an icon, and as Apple put it +*"The Best iPod. Ever."+*, which per se guarantees a strong market stance, what truly made Apple discontinue the 4G model so suddenly? The immediate question is hence why was it released to begin with? Additionally, why would there be such a gigantic mark reduction of the 8G below that of the now-obsolete 4G -- *all after just few weeks since release?* Now, focus your attention on the 4G owners who are below the 46th day and are left with a discontinued half-sized product. Focus your thoughts on them, and keep reading.
So, is the iPhone a heat-print T-shirt from venice walk? Is it an SDRAM memory that goes down in price by the second because they finally managed to concentrate all the factories in China? or is this a revolutionary Apple product?
"The Best iPod. Ever." shouldn't get wiped out in just *few weeks*, definitely not in such a ridiculous price cut after a thorough reasoning why it was expensive to begin with. It makes sense if the price has been reformed "technologically" throughout those 7 months, but since the price has not been updated on launch, it meant Apple, a multi-billion corporation, had reasons to stick to their rhetoric of pricing. But whatever made Apple choose to go the path they did, many defended Apple claiming they couldn't have foreseen it coming. However, I, and hundreds of thousands of 4G owners, refuse to believe a commercial giant like Apple did not know their actions will yield to such friction and sparks. Intrinsically, it only means their business plan was deficient; and so why would few weeks old consumers pay for it so dearly? I thought they were promised the *+"The Best iPod. Ever"+*.
People who actually whine about the complaining iPhone owners came up with all the possible fair reasons for the drastic change, euphemistically acknowledging that the iPhone price and product sudden death did came out "sooner than later". Now, whatever the true reason may be, it doesn't change the fact everyone admits, even in the slightest, it was a stinker. The whole lot of folks who wanted to wait for a $199 iPhone realized it too and further reaffirmed it by mocking the so-called "early adapters" (counted by the first 45 days).
Now, hotshots, right before you spring back into "Max, lol!1! That's how technology workz because Steve just wrote so in a letter that embraces you with a $100 crybaby credit you don't deserve you PC hater lol!1!", imagine those very hundreds of thousands of 4G owners sitting still and taking that stinker in the face (mind you our jaw is still dropped).
A single DAY past the 45th day of the first ever release of a mega icon, that is "an iPod, a Phone and an Internet communication device" (repeat x3 times) - you can already buy the same 8G many couldn't afford for much less of the discontinued 4G.
How would YOU feel, especially if you happened to be going after the 4G iPhone, like myself?
"We won't feel a thing Max, lol!1!, because nobody twisted our armz!! law11L1"
Those who couldn't realize how could I even do math with all that whining and reach the 45 day count; savagely slice 14 days off 60, the round number of days the mega hit revolution 4G iPhone has been in the market, and then hose all the numbers below the result by $200 dollars with a store credit that only expands Apple's market and leaves you with an obsolete and high paid product.
Thank you Apple, for treating your fans so well.

I understand people being a tad miffed over the price drop. I'm over listening to them complain about it, but I do get it. However I don't understand the 4GB model people. It's not like Apple has decided that not only will they no longer carry it, but that they won't honor the warranty either.
Your phone is still covered by warranty. You're not the red-headed step child of the iPhone family. You chose to purchase a 4gb because when you rationalized it, you decided that 4GB was enough memory. If you only bought the 4gb to save a couple of bucks, then you only have yourself to blame. If you bought the 4gb because you didn't have enough money, then your priorities were out of whack. Either way, you made the choice to buy the 4gb, so you must live with it. You'll still get the $100 credit.
And the funniest part of all of this is: 6 months from now, if any of those 4gb iPhones crap out what do you think the chances are that they'll have any to replace them with? Exactly. At some point Apple is going to be replacing 4gb iPhones under warranty with 8gb's because there won't be any 4gb iPhones.
So pick your excuse for buying a 4gb, either way no one forced you to do it.

  • Are N97 Owners being "Blagged"?I

I think i really am at the end of my tether.
Having had four replacement N97's i was kind of hoping that v.20 may be the saving grace,in allowing me to own a phone that works.
Nokia knew that certain "Sites" were running countdown's, towards the official launch of v.20.To the best of my knowledge,Nokia made no attempt to refute or deny this.
Surprise, surprise, the software, was "Pulled", and everyone is in the dark.
The N97 should never have been released in it's current guise,v.20 should have been the standard, yet Nokia remain tight lipped, refusing to confirm the official release date.
Nokia know full well, that this software, may settle a lot of owners, but evidently give not one toss, about us consumers.
I wish i had never got my N97, but am stuck with it.
I will never, never, buy a Nokia phone again.

    To the OP.
I agree with gnytemare in wishing you good luck. Unlike gnytemare I won't decide what the "...nature of what this site SHOULD be...". In this context, I'll just quote what it says at the top of the Nokia Support Discussions page "These boards are primarily for user-to-user interaction". So thanks for the user interaction, OP.
Like many others, I sympathise with your feelings. After all the discussions surrounding the technical deficiencies with the N97, my lasting dissatisfaction is with Nokia, the company.
I've paid my £500 for the phone too, and I'm fortunate not to have had to return it 4 times, as many others have had to. So I'm living with it. Ok, I'm too scared to use the camera in case I scratch the lens. And I can't trust the GPS (if I watch the screen too much while I'm driving, to make sure I compensate for thge "lag", I'll probably drive off the road). But I've bought an external bluetooth GPS, which works fine. So that's ok then, isn't it?
I've had my N97 since the UK launch day, June 26th, and it's never worked properly. But it's adequate (verging on poor, considering the price tag).
Sillbit invited you to "...Listen to what Nokia actually do say, and go on that, instead of listening to rants and rumours."
Nice words. So what exactly has Nokia actually said? They've not said anything to me. Have they said anything to you, OP? This is the source of many people's frustration - they've not actually siad anything to their customers.
Delboyg informed us that "...Nokia have admitted the problems with the scratched camera lens and GPS antenna, to there credit they are offering to fix those issues". Really? They've not admitted anything to me, or offered me anything. Where exactly is this admission and offer?
I HAVE seen, in a forum somewhere, an alleged discussion, or something similar, where Nokia is reported to have said something of this kind to a member of that forum. Has there been a public statement somewhere by Nokia, which I've missed? Please let me know where I can find it, as I'd like to print it off so that I can take it into a Nokia Care Point / Centre, or whatever, and claim my free repair.
Oh no wait, I already did that. I went into the (claimed) Nokia Care Centre in Solihull, where I was refused access to any of the "engineers". A shop salesman spoke to them (by telephone) on my behalf about these 2 well known N97 faults. This Nokia "admission" was news to them, and I had to explain to them, via the salesman on the phone , what the claimed remedy for these 2 faults was, as reported in that other forum. Then the salesman was kind enough to print off for me, the form on the supportarea of the Nokia website. He also invited me to post the phone to Nokia at Thetford for their attention, as any non-cosmetic repairs were beyond their abilities.
    And so it goes on...
Since all my recent experiences with Nokia / Ovi involving their hardware, software, websites, and now customer support, have been ineffectual, frustrating, and stressful, I find it difficult to do anything other than sympathise and agree with the OP.
Gnytemare further informed us that "...Apple, Blackberry and possibly ALL the other smartphones have been through the same troubles.....their approach may be different, but they still have the same probs.". Really? Is that supposed to excuse Nokia for this N97?
I've had my N95 since Nov 2006. Function by function, the N97 doesn't really do anything the N95 doesn't already do. It just does it all more easily, or attempts to. Nokia have had 3 years to develop the N95 into the N97. The others quoted by gnytemare have been playing catchup. There's no excuse for this poor performance by Nokia. And even less excuse for them, like Horation Nelson, to place their telescope to their blind eye and say "Ships? I see no ships.", or "Defects? I see no defects".
It's taken 3 1/2 months for them to (allegedly) admit any defects.
Are they really that stupid? Or that clever?
    Hmm...

I can't register the iPhone I just bought although it has definitely been unregistered by the previous owner

This is the message I get (the previous owner has a confirmation email confirming the de-registration):
According to our records, this serial number is registered to another Apple ID. If you have more than one Apple ID, log in to My Support Profile with that Apple ID to see your other registered products. Not sure if you have another Apple ID? Find out.

  • Other owners can't view the added information in Sharepoint word and Excel documents

    Hi,
I have a question where from a workplace, the owners can adjust or add information in Word and Excel docs wich are stored in a library.
The problem is as follows: when one of the owners change the contents or adds content to one of the files, the other owners can't view in the file what's been added.
The files are always being checked in when an owner has finished adding content.
Also every owner has the same permissions.
Has anyone already had this problem?
    Kind regards
    Wim

    Hi Wim,
I think you have misunderstanding Michaelle's attention. there is no workflow related to Approve/Reject.
Go to Library Settings->Version settings->Choose "Require content approval for submitted items?"
Then after you publish a major version of the document, you also need to approve the document to make it approved.
    Best Regards,

  • 10.4.9 - Power PC support: disillusioned Mac owner

I was hoping that 10.4.9 would at last Mac support for the Sony GPS-CS1. This device has been out for 6 months now and 'just works' on Windows and Linux. It appears it 10.4.9 may fix the problem on Intel machines, but not on PPC ones.
I did raise a bug some time ago but of course have had no reply.
I also tried to post a question here before 10.4.9 was released, trying to bring this to developers' attention to get someone to look at the problem while the update was in development, but of course my question was removed, as it was about unreleased software.
I wasn't asking anyone for details of secret Leopard features - I was asking if someone might pay attention to the Mac's unique lack of support for this device.
I also wasn't asking just for myself, but on behalf of a small community of GPS-CS1 owners - see http://www.macgpscs1.com
What chance I wonder is there that I'll ever see the GPS-CS1 work on a Power PC Mac? Especially given that this is probably the last release before Leopard. I'm not even going to ask if it'll work with Leopard, or this post will be removed.
It's a small thing - one minority device. But it says a great deal about Apple support. For the first time since buying a Mac, I think I might have made a mistake.

If I were you, I would join the Apple Developer
Connection. There is a free membership that doesn't
give you a whole lot of benefits, but you can submit
true Apple bugs directly to Apple Developers:

    Hi Doug, already done that.
We (me and my blog visitors) spent a lot of time trying to establish where the fault might be first, but once I discovered that the device mounts on Ubuntu running on my Mac (the same Mac that doesn't work running Mac OS) then I submitted a bug on Bug Reporter on 22nd December. Full system profile and lots of USB Probe output and logs attached.
    Bug number 4898558
But apart from an automated acknowledgment, I've had no contact from Apple and the bug status has never been updated.
On 29th December I sent an update, as we discovered that the GPS-CS1 now worked with a Core 2 Duo Macbook. We found that it had newer versions of IOUSBFamily and IOUSBMassStorageClass (a fairly good indication of where the problem might be). Again though, I've had no response other than an automatic acknowledgment.
For the first time since buying a Mac, I think I
    might have made a mistake.
If you knew that the device was only supported in
Windows and Linux, it's not clear to me why you got a
    Mac in the first place...
    -Doug
I bought a Mac long before buying a GPS-CS1. Although Sony didn't supply any Mac software with it I took a chance on it working with the Mac anyway (the interface to the computer is just a Sony Memory Stick with a USB connection) - and in any case I always have access to a Windows PC at work.
It isn't a huge problem for me - it's just that the impossibility of getting this working without Apple's help, and the impossibility of getting any help from Apple, are indicative of a larger concern.
