Availability of FIOS Service in NE DC

I recently moved into a new townhouse community in Dec. 2011. Shortly thereafter, Verizon contractors visited the site to install the underground wires and outside boxes necessary for Verizon FIOS service. I contacted customer service sometime in late January/early February to inquire about when FIOS or High-Speed Internet service would be available and was told it would happen sometime in late April.
To this day, every time I inquire about service I'm told they can't tell me when it will be available. I can CLEARLY see the Verizon utility boxes from my windows yet customer service never seems to have any answers. Now mind you, since then Comcast has installed their utility boxes, ran their underground wires, and got their service up and running!
This is a large, new townhouse community that would like to have options when it comes to our TV and Internet needs. I'm starting to think that Verizon isn't interested in acquiring any of our business since information provided is little to none. I'm trying my best to wait on these services to become available (without getting stuck in a 2 year contract with Comcast) but it's going on 6 months and I need service! Any information about the potential delivery date of services would be greatly appreciated (and please don't tell me to sign up for service notifications; been there, done that).

If FIOS internet is available, but not TV, it is more likely the VZ does not have a franchise agreement with your city and has nothing to do with VZ investing in head-end equipment.

  • How To Use Your Own Router with Out Loosing Verizon's FIOS Services

How to use your own router with Verizon’s FIOS Service
First, you need a basic understanding of how FIOS works but unfortunately there are two types of FIOS systems out there. All of the systems utilize a fiber optic cable to bring TV, phone and internet to your location over one optic cable. In addition these systems provide interactivity including widgets, remote DVR, movies on demand and so forth via an IP (Internet Protocol) signal.  Your STB (Set Tip Box) requires both a video and IP signal. The IP signal is necessary for all of the aforementioned interactivity.  The fiber cable terminates at the Optical Network Terminal or ONT for short.  The ONT converts the optics into a digital signal that can be utilized by ones equipment.  From the ONT your video, phone and internet are provided to the location.  This is where things can differ as the internet signal can be provided via a coaxial (MoCA or Multimedia over Coax Alliance) or RJ45 Cat5 (Ethernet) cable.  It is important to identify and understand the differences of these two setups.  In my case I have my internet entering via Ethernet cable, which in my humble opinion makes things a heck of a lot easier.
How does one tell the difference? In most cases it’s rather simple; just look at the Verizon’s router WAN (Wide Area Network) Port.  Does it have a RJ45 (Ethernet) or Coax (TV cable Cord) going to it? If the router’s WAN port doesn’t have a coaxial connector then one will need to convert the MoCA signal into a usable Ethernet signal that routers understand. The easiest way is to use Verizon’s router as a bridge. In this method the Verizon’s router simply converts the signal and passes it along to your own router. The challenge is to try to maintain the interactivity that FIOS TV provides. Because of this one needs to supply the IP routed signal back to the FIOS router.  There are multiple methods for doing this and I would recommend investigates which one make the most sense.
In my particular case the IP signal was provided by Ethernet.  Again there are various ways of installing one’s own router. The hardest is to utilize Verizon’s router as a bridge.  This setup requires configuring Verizon’s router as a bridge and also creating a VLAN (Virtual Local Area Networks). In addition one needs to set up their own router so it will work with the various routing tables and networks. For me this is too complex for the average person and it can be difficult to trouble shoot if something goes wrong. Please consider that Verizon will not support utilizing third party routers.
The easier method is to request an Ethernet signal (if you don’t already have one) from their ONT.  I would highly recommend getting your hands on a NIM or Network Interface Module. This device is used to convert Ethernet to Coaxial so it can be fed back to your STBs.  These can be purchased online and Verizon technicians can be a valuable resource with these sorts of acquisition.  At the very least they can point you to the right direction.  Once you have a NIM the rest is rather simple.
Log into the current Verizon Router.
Located the router’s MAC address and copy it down.
Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.
Look at your current device list, typically found on the home screen. Copy down your STB MAC and IP address.
    Example:
    IP-STB1
    Connection Type: Ethernet
    * IP Address: 192.168.1.100
    IP Address Allocation: DHCP
    *MAC Address:                07:73:fFe:ad:8b:3f
    * Things you will need to write down
Go to the network section and look for the main Ethernet connection.  Select this and then select more setting, typically found at the bottom. Release the current lease.
    Remove the Verizon router
    Install your router
Connect the NIM by plugging in an Ethernet from one of the routers LAN (Local Area Network) ports to your NIM. Then connect the coax cable, the same cable that was used by Verizon router.
Set you DHCP routing IP pool to accommodate Verizon’s STB IP’s  (note their IP’s start at 192.168.1.100)
Go to DHCP section and reserve the STB IP’s by inserting the IP’s and MAC addresses. This shall ensure that nothing else utilizes the same IPs as the STBs thereby preventing IP address conflict.
Add the port forwards from Step 5 above.
Clone Verizon’s Mac Address utilizing the info from step 2
Finish setting up the router in typical fashion.
Unplug and re-plugin your STB’s and test functionality.  It’s best to try using a widget or Movie on demand function.
Note: if the new router can net get an internet signal contact Verizon’s support and have them release the IP and reset the ONT.
EVERYTHING should be working at this point.

3 Go to the port forwarding section and copy down the Applied Rules.
    Example:
    Network Computer/Device: 192.168.1.100:63145
Application & Ports Forward:  Application UDP Any -> 6347
Note: There may be up to three entries for each one of your Set Top Boxes.G
Your display obviously is not like mine as mine does not dosplay the port associated with the ip address
whatever, the STB's start at 192.168.1.100 and icement by 1 for each
the port addr's will be 63145 alo incrementing by 1
there is 1 entry for each in my pf list
however each ip addr also has a port entry starting at 35000 also incrementing by 1 for each ip addr
For some unknow reason these are duplicated e.g I appear to have 11 entries exaactly the same for each stb and as the fios services rules have no action switc there is nowhere to delete the extraneous garbage.
Why do you clone the mac addr??

  • Has anyone used Verizon Fios Services with Windows 7 ?

Has anyone used Verizon Fios Services  with Windows 7 ?

Yes Beta And RC. It works the same as Vista, with probably some enhancements. Didn't have any issues, but I did not try wireless.

  • Change to FIOS service, port 25 is now blocked.

Outbound traffic on port 25 is now being blocked for residential FIOS service?  When I signed up in November I specifically asked and I was told that Verizon does not do any port blocking on FIOS service.  I am now in a contract with Verizon and they have changed the service provided and I can no longer use port 25 outbound.

You don't have to use 587 specifically, just some port other than 25. 587 is the most commonly used "other" port, so it's what Verizon suggests, but you should check with your email provider.
As an example, I have an AT&T email account in addition to FiOS. I have that account defined in Windows Live Mail using outgoing server smtp.att.yahoo.com on port 465 using SSL and I can send using that account just fine while connected to FiOS - I rarely send using that account so I just verified earlier this afternoon that it still works.

  • Commercial power failures and FiOS service interruptions

Severe weather reminder for our FiOS customers...
In the event of a commercial power failure, your FiOS battery backup will power your standard voice service for approx 8 hours. For additional information about the battery backup unit, click here for more info.
It’s possible that after electrical power is restored, you may still be without FiOS TV service. Sometimes resetting your Battery Backup Unit (BBU) is needed. Click here for more info.
For an automated wizard to help with FiOS restoration, click here.
Due to extreme weather conditions, there may be storm related power outages in your area.  Your FiOS services will be affected until power resumes.  If you do not have power please contact your local power company.  If your power is restored and your FiOS services are still not working, you can report an outage, check status, request a new repair or update an existing repair online at www.Verizon.com/repair .  If some of your Verizon services are working, but not all, you can use the In Home Agent application on your PC to troubleshoot and restore services.   We apologize for any inconvenience.

when you lose power, the BBU kicks in, and after  minute or so, the video and data ports will be shut off at the ONT at your house to save battery power.... the battery is ONLY for the phone
In the event that the Verizon CO lost power/signal and you truly had no signal coming to your house.. then all services would go down

  • NY - Impossible to get FIOS service

We put in a request for FIOS almost a year ago. In the last few months I have left message to the NY FIOS center to find out what the status is. One person got back to me ask me a few question and told me that she will get back to me that day. I never heard back from her.
Can someone please email me or call  to let me know what the status is.
    Thank you

Verizon must petition each township to allow TV FIOS Services.  I'm not sure which service(s) you are looking for but instead of going to Verizon you may want to check with your local township.
On Long Island for example the town of islip has granted FIOS to run services throughout the township but Brookhaven Township has not granted FIOS.  Without their approval Verizon is not able to provide at a minimum TV service.
Also, Verizon is running Fiber Optic cable first on outside poles before getting to  underground utilitiies.
I'm not sure what part of NY you are in but I hope this helps.
These are peer-to-peer forums that are looked over by the VZ admins but if you want the higher up folks to hear you, you better scream really loud,

  • Connecting  AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service

I want to connect my new AirPort Extreme 802.11n directly to my Verizon FiOS service. The ActionTec wireless router supplied by Verizon died, and I bought an AirPort Extreme as a replacement. When I configured the AirPort extreme, it would not connect to the internet. I have read some posts here that indicate I plug my AirPort Extreme into the ActionTec and I am OK, however the ActionTec is dead.
Are there settings for the AirPort Extreme that are unique for going straight to the internet? What am I missing? My FiOS connection is an Ethernet connection- not coax.
Here is the interesting thing- I have an old AirPort Extreme (the round cone shaped model) that I plugged into the Verizon FiOS Ethernet connection. Everything works fine- I have a wireless connection to the internet. I didn't set anything. So my assumption is that I can make the new AirPort Extreme work with the Verizon FiOS.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I do not know if I have the strength to go through the Verizon help desk.

Good news! My problem was solved by calling Verizon FiOS support. The service tech said an AEBS can connect straight to the FiOS Ethernet connection. He broke the "lease" on my connection, had me connect the cable from the wall to my WAN slot, and then he "leased" my network connection to my AEBS. Works like butter now.
He said that the Verizon FiOS network "leases" the network connections every 24 hours or so, and had I left my AEBS connected to the network, it would have pushed the new setting down to the AEBS.
Thanks for all of the input.

  • I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets.  Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router.  I currently have a Verizon FiOS router.  I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV.  However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box.  No HD, no DVR.  Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand.  Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here.  The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area.  But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

  • How to request FIOS service in my area?

    Hi,
I just moved to my first home in San Bernardino, CA.  It is a manufactured home in a park, and I was able to get a great deal and pay it off completely.  I was so excited about it, I didn't stop to question the internet service available in the area; afterall, what rock do you have to hide under to not find internet in America in this day and age (or so I thought)?
To my disbelief, only the units on the outer perimeter can get service!!!!!!  The only thing that is available to me is DSL, and even then it was a HUGE hassle to get it setup because the technicians have to piggyback the lines from a really messed up terminal along the neighbors' backyards!  The speed is so horrible, I just want to cry most nights, and my wife literally has cried on occasion!  I download everything from my cell phone because it's faster, and my cell phone service is anything but fast.  The only other alternative is Dish, and there's a pathetic 30gig limit per month; that wouldn't even last 3 days between my wife, me, and my roommates.
I don't need TV.  I don't need a phone line.  Hell, I can even live without heating or air conditioning, but the one thing I need is good internet!  I've had to cancel my Hulu and Netflix, completely give up on any form of online gaming, download all my media needs from work or on my cell phone, and overall our entire household is absolutely miserable, to the point that I am considering selling this place to move elsewhere.  Not to mention, for my job I need access to internet from home at all times, this is really screwing up my life!
We were on 75/35 and already thinking of upgrading to a higher speed plan, so to put that in perspective we are now getting less than 1/1.  I'm not rich, I'm supporting a household of 4 as the only income, but I can afford internet, it's a necessity for me.  I am willing to sign away $150 for a long-term contract, even if it's 5 years, that's $9,000 in revenue; I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that would cover the cost of laying down some lines!  Not to mention, there are more than a hundred units in the park, all the potential customers Verizon could have would definitely be to their monetary advantage.  I just can't understand why they don't want to lay down some lines?
Anyway, I don't have much knowledge about this industry so I'm not sure where to begin to petition for this request.  If needed, I can personally go door-to-door and get committed answers for the need for FIOS in our park, I know for a fact I'm not alone in my frustrations here.  There's not much I won't do in order to get some decent internet!  I hope someone can help point me in the right direction.
Thank you all for your help!

I was given the equipment Verizon gave me. A DSL modem. What else do I need? I've certianly had modems in the past provided by other services, but they would at least offer what they promised... which is what... 3-5Mbps? Let me check again...
Yes, it was "High Speed Internet" in which I was neglected to be mentioned about when I ordered...
-I checked my speed test, my download speed is 1.95 Mbps, my upload is not even .07 THIS IS EVEN AFTER restarting the modem, you know, turning it off, waiting 1 minute, then plugging it back in.
-The modem is EXTREMELY hot and it isn't even near any other equipment.
-I can't even go to TWO pages at a time when they load. Multitasking is near impossible, even when I had AT&T's service at the same speed, it would allow me to go to another page while another loaded or downloaded something. WEBSITES that don't even require even a LITTLE bit amount of bandwidth.
To further insult, I am getting emails and phone calls from Verizon telling me that my "internet connection speed" is up to code, which is complete and utter **bleep** to put it in short terms. It is a CHORE to go to this website alone to respond.
I'm fully aware NOW that FiOs is out of the question and requests are impossible.
Seriously... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THE SEVICE I REQUESTED?

  • Transfer of FiOS Service to a new location

We are building a house and transferring our existing FiOS account (internet/TV/phone) to this new address. Verizon Tech Team said FiOS is available at the new address and the new connection will be Aerial. New house is a pipe-stem house with a 500 ft driveway surrounded by woods. Only thing we can see is a new electric pole the utility company put at the beginning of the drive way. They ran the electric cable underground the entire length of the driveway to power-up the house. Can anybody explain how Verzon is bringing the FiOS Fiber optic cable to the house Aerially?
    Thanks
    John

If they're putting an Aerial cable up they'll most likely be installing another pole onto the property. 500ft is going to need to need a few poles from where the trunk is to reach your home so they are not extending the cable leaving it to hang freely for too much of a distance. They may also do an underground burial if all of your utilities are supposed to be underground. It's hard to say how they will accomplish that if your home is surrounded entirely by a forest but it shouldn't be any different from how they'd hook up a copper telephone line.
Regardless, Verizon will figure it out when they come out to hook up your service and they should install anything that is needed to get the cable to reach you.

  • I'm thinking of canceling my Fios Service (even though I don't even have it yet)

I was a previous Fios customer and had open a new account since I was moving to a new apartment.   That was in December.   The next available date for them to install Fios was in January.    The installation day comes and nobody at all shows up.   I call twice and I was told I would get a call back.   Verizon later tells me nobody showed because I never confirmed my apointment (which I absolutely did).   So the installation date was rescuedled to another far away date in February.  Great, I have to go three more weeks without any internet or cable.   The Feburary 12th installation comes and they couldn't complete the installation and promised to be back the next business day.   The next businessday comes and nobody shows up.  I call Verizon and they say they have to reschedule and tell me the next date they have is ....MARCH.   Is this a joke? How many months now without internet and television?
I tell them I will not wait until March for something they already started and they tell me they'll contact their supervior to put me on priority installtion since work was already started at in apartment and promised to call me back the same day.    No call back.   Called again the next day and I'm promised another call back.   Again, no call back.
This is beyond frustrating and if service is not installed this week, I'm done with Verizon.   Cancelling my  business service, wireless accounts and never doing business with this company again.

    Hello JT599
Sorry you are having difficulty, an agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or help you resolve your issue.

  • FiOS service drops out everytime it rains

I'm having a recurring issue that is starting to become annoying. I've recently signed up for FiOS TV and digital voice since the price of internet alone is creeping up to the point of having all three services already. Ever since they came and installed my service, when it rains, my serivce drops out. The globe light on my router goes out, my set top box says no channels can be displayed, and I receive no dial tone on my phone.
The first night this happened, it was a light to mid rain. I tried to troubleshoot the box directly and it recommended a reboot. The box kept rebooting and shutting off (displaying the 8888 on the display off and on for 20 minutes). I went out to the ONT box which is outside on the back of my house and noticed all the lights were off. I unplugged and plugged it back on, but no lights came on. I then went back in (to my constantly rebooting STB) and unplugged that and then back in. I then called Verizon support, the automated agent came sent a signal to test it, transferred me to an agent, which at this time, everything came back on, so I hung up.
I live in Florida so the rain comes here pretty frequently. Is my issue because my ONT box is outside and the rain is causing problems? Or is it a wiring problem in my home? I have the wire maitenance plan and hope that covers anything that can be done to fix this. I can't have my service constantly out everytime it decides to pour a little bit.
And at this time, my service is out because of the inclement weather that we are experiencing now. This is very frustrating.

You should not have hung up but let Verizon complete the service call troubleshooting.  It sounds like you have a problem with the ONT installation that likely Verizon needs to fix.  Report the problem again and let them have a chance to fix it.  This should not happen.

  • How can I escalate terrible FIOS service problems above FIOS field service management?

This is a long story, but I will try to keep it short and on point.  We use Verizon FIOS for land line telephone, Internet access and TV cable.  For the past four and a half months, we have suffered serveral outages a week and sometimes several outages in a single day on all three services.  Sometimes we lose our Internet connection for a few moments.  Sometimes telephone calls get dropped or there is no dial tone.  Sometimes we see pixelation or interference in the cable TV signal.
Often two services are affected at the same time.  We've recorded events where all three services were affected at one time.
In the Gateway router logs, we see errors messages that "opaque does not match!" and "rebinding lease."  These messages in the router logs occur at the same time stamps when we suffer dropped calls or cable TV interference.  It seem obvious, at least to me, that the problem is external to anything that is inside of our house.
We have opened a dozen or more support tickets.  We've had four Verizon field technicians come to our house.  We've gone through three Verizon Gateway routers.. We've accessed the Internet using only wireless connections of a week to try and rule out internal wiring problems with computer access to the Internet.
Verizon has replaced the ONT (optical network terminal) on the side of our house.  They changed the fibre channel cable that goes from the ONT to a vault out by the curb of the street.
We have opened a formal complaint with the FCC and with the PA Public Utility Commission.  But the problem has not been resolved.  We think that we're just getting the run around now from Verizon field service.  Yesterday, a service manager left me a voicemail where he suggested that our Internet problem was caused by a second router that we had hooked up to the Verizon router.  We DO NOT have a second router.  He said that there was a problem with cable TV interference in my area and 2nd level support was working on it.  He did not address the dropped landline calls.  He did not address why outages on more than one service would occur at the same time.
Does anyone have any advice on how I get our problem escalated?  We are at the end of our rope here and are considering canceling our service with Verizon and going with a competitor.  But even after all of this, we are hesitant to switch providers because we will lose our email accounts that we've used for well over a decade.

  • Is there someone to talk to about REQUESTING FiOs Service in my area?

    Hi, I'm a former AT&T internet user
When I moved, I was excited about actually getting rid of AT&T as they were giving me TERRIBLE internet speed for an overblown price. I was looking up Verizon and was excited that I could get a FiOs internet, FINALLY. It even said that it was available in my area.
I move in... Three days I realize the service I received was NOT Fios, it was "High Speed DSL" and I come to find that it's EVEN WORSE than my AT&T service...
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I am tired of this, I have to spend my days sending and receiving large video files for my line of work, and I'm FORCED to take long periods of time to wait for things to finish before I can do anything else. And even then, my girlfriend who lives with me has to wait as well in order to make transfers for her line of work with the wifi.
WHAT MAKES IT WORSE! When my computer is idle, IT WILL HALT THE UPLOAD OR DOWNLOAD PROCESS!!!!!! This is something brand new that came to my attention and I don't know how to fix the problem because it happened as soon as I got Verizon.
THERE HAS TO BE SOME SORT OF REQUEST EMAIL OR LINE I can contact in order to speed up the process of getting FiOs in my house. The whole "we'll contact you when it's available" could take months to YEARS and we will still get no results.
I will go to the Verizon office myself to talk to someone about it to see if I can get any results to this problem, I am tired of the crap internet service I'm getting.
Otherwise, if I have to, I will immediately cancel my service and resort to getting Warner Cable instead. I am sick and tired of waiting and I'm not about to have my line of business ruined because Verizon continues to advertise something they can not provide.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
