Back Up Assistant Glitchy/User Unfriendly

Lost my phone, needed my contacts desperately. Terribly glitchy. Had to use Verizon customer service to to even get into it and walk me through it and even then it would only print out each contact on one page, using up 150 pages to do it. Tried it again iwth the customer  service rep but still did the same thing. Was on the phone for over an hour, terribly frustrating on an already frustrating occasion.

I do apologize for the inconvenience.  Once you are in the account online click on Contacts link above the picture of your phone on the left hand side of the My Verizon once you are signed in. The page will refresh showing you grayed out head shots of your contacts allowing you to use the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen to see each number one at a time above the scroll bar is an option that you can click on that says View Contacts once you click on the option the page will then bring up your contacts going down the screen one by one above the first contact on the right side of the screen you will see an option in blue to click on that says Select All once you click on it, It then marks each contact so they will appear all on one page and not one per page, Next to the Select All is a picture of a circle that resembles a bolt and it will allow you to click the down arrow there, it will then drop down a menu giving you the option to click Print once you click Print you will have your contacts printing all on one page instead of one contact per page.

  • Itunes 9 a let-down, app store browser user-unfriendly?

    maybe I'm just missing something, but I find that that the new version is a let down. It's slow as ever and the appstore page is totally cluttered. There's so much talk of the endless number of applications that have been developed for the iphone. But finding what you're looking for can be a right pain, because the start page shows nothing but the most popular ones and the browser is in my opinion really user-unfriendly.
    First you need to select app store, then click on a category, wait a while and eventually the list builds up right in front of you. But take a closer look and you'll see that a. the table is the same as for mp3/songs (trackname, released, genre (I am using the German version and don't know the English equivalent).
    Next you select a line if you see something that catches your eye and would love to get more details, but there are none. Do a right click on the same line and the a window will pop up that makes a lot of sense for mp3s (the one with trackname, tracknumber, album name, realease date, cover picture etc) but is utterly useless if you're looking for an application. Wouldn't it make sense to show the details of the application in a pop-up window, although, sure this could also be implemented in a different way.
    In any case it goes from bad to worse, because say you double-clicked on a line, read the application description, and decided it's not what you're looking for - how do you get back to the previous list?
    Easy you think. Just click the little arrow in the top left of the app store window, but truth is the arrow takes you back to the very front page of the app store, which means that you have to select brows from the quick links section and so on and so forth one more time. It wouldn't be so bad if Itunes weren't so sluggish.
    Any help or ideas appreciated.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. 
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
    Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
    When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Probably the cleanest thing to do is to erase and freshly install the operating system on the new drive. Then, on the first boot up, don't create a new user, instead select the option in Setup Assistant to immediately bring things over from your backup, which you must connect via USB or firewire. Setup Assistant will then recretae your old user to look just like it used to.
    Before doing this, make sure you realize you will lose everything on the new drive by erasing it, and make sure your backup is still viable.

  • Back Up Assistant freezes on LG Cosmos3 - anyone else have this issue?

    Let me share my experience. To save money, I did not renew my contract plan and went with two prepaid basic phones. (the LG Cosmos3)  Within two days, I knew there was a problem. When the back up assistant would try to execute a scheduled backup when the phone was in a locked mode, the application would freeze and not complete the process. If the backup ran at night, the screen would remain frozen until I would discover it in the moring and unlock the phone and press clr or end. Upon accessing the on line community, I noticed another user describing this same issue. I called Verizon customer support and explained my issue. She put me on hold and returned to the phone stating she had consulted IT. The indication was that IT was aware of this issue.... what ashame my local store didn't mention that to me as I was paying $122.74 to buy the phone, accessories, and prepay for the first months use !  It was suggested I try to uninstall then reinstall the backup app. I was told if that didn't work, then I should take the phone to Best Buy and have the Geek Squad reflash my phone. (despite the fact that I bought the phone directly from my local Verizon which the rep knew)
    I then drove to my local Verizon store and shared the info given by the customer service technician I spoke to on the phone. The in-store employees had never heard of this being an issue !  The store employee then showed me that on pre installed factory software, there is no uninstall option choice to unload the app. He then took my phone to the store manager to check and see if there was any software upgrades available which there was not.
    Leaving the Verizon store unsatisfied, I then went to Best Buy where it was suggested they could do a reflash. When I told this to the in store employees, they told me they can only flash Samsung products not LG at BestBuy.
    I then drove back to my home to recontact Verizon by phone. I explained the situation to another customer service rep which told me we should try to reset the backup app. She had my go to my installed Backup app, go to the "About" option on the app, and dial  *73738#  .  If this doesn't properly reset backup assist to where it no longer freezes while the phone is in locked mode, I will have no choice but to turn auto lock off so the phone can run the app. Otherwise, I will be waiting until Verizon/LG develope a patch for a fix.
    It is just frustrating to pay for a product with a known compatibility issue. Once you leave the store and they have your money, Good Luck !
    I was told by the Verizon customer service rep if I was discouraged with the phone and wanted a different model, I would have to talk to LG to see if they would send me another phone of a different model without the compatibility issue.... apparently that is not Verizon's problem.
    It just seems unreasonable for this phone to continue to be sold until these issue are resolved... or should I say it seems disrespectful ?

    If I go thru the process to restore my phone as you suggest, it gives me a warning that after that process my phone will need to be reprogrammed.... can you give further instructions on how to do that after the restore process please.
    I am a bit doubting as to why my software would be corrupted and why it will benefit to restore the phone. This phone has had this issue since day 1 when it was taken out of the box and activated by in-store Verizon employees. It would appear that this software issue has existed at the factory level when the phone was produced?
    My other frustration is the inconsistant answers I have gotten from Verizon support both verbally and online.
         1) At the national call center I was told to uninstall then reinstall BackUp. When I consulted my local Verizon store, I was told that factory installed software cannot be uninstalled making this recommendation useless.
         2) Again on a verbal basis by Verizon support, I was told to take the phone to BestBuy to have the phone reflashed. When I got to BestBuy, despite buying this phone directly from my local Verizon store, I was told that BestBuy can only reflash Samsung products.
         3)Verbally by Verizon support, I was told to dial *73738# to reset BackUp assistant
    None of those items have worked. I am now experimenting on my own to see if I turn off the keyguard auto lock at night, if that will allow BackUp to run and complete successfully.
         4)Another time when I called Verizon support, It was eluded to that IT knows about the issue and is working on a fix. If that is the case, how frustrating that this phone is actively being sold to un-suspecting customers despite having a known software issue.
    ******Are you able to verify if IT is aware of this software issue and if or when will a software patch be available ???****

  • Switch numbers to veiw on back up assistant on the computer HELP!

    I have back up assistant on my phone. So does my grandfather.. His number is the ''account holder'', the MAIN number. Something happened to my phone and i need to retrieve a few numbers using my back up assistant.
        MY PROBLEM IS THIS: I cant seem to veiw MY number on the back up website. I've tried signing in using MY phone number and our account password. BUT IT WONT WORK. so when i sign in using the user name and go to the back up assistant it only shows the account holders phone number. I've looked all over trying to fine some thing that says, ''not your number?" and ''switch to another number on the account''. but i have not prevailed. I used to have a pin for my number a couple years ago. when you had to pay for the back up assistant app when there was such a thing as ''get it now.'' but since then i have had to change my number. But also there isnt a phone number AND "PIN" slot.. only a user id/phone number and password slot. NOW, i have TRIED to sign up using my number assuming maybe that's what i needed to do. But every time i type in MY number it says that my number doesnt match any of their records and urges me to verify that i typed the number correctly. Now after doing this what felt like a million times i finally gave up and went to the user guide, the help guide and the FAQ. and MANY of the pages are temperarily out of service. CONVENIANT RIGHT?? so my question to you is this, WHAT THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO SO THAT I CAN GET THE CONTACTS OFF OF MY PHONE, NOT THE ACCOUNT HOLDERS!!?? IS THERE A WAY OF SWITCHING THE NUMBERS/ACCOUNTS THAT I CAN VIEW  WHEN I SIGN IN WITH THE GENERAL ACCOUNT NAME? OR HOW CAN I CREATE MY OWN ACCOUNT FOR MY NUMBER, ONLY IF THATS WHAT I NEED TO DO?

    It sounds like you need to register your own phone number with its own password to create a MyVerizon account for that phone number. The Backup Assistant associated with the account owner is for that line only.

  • I have just re-installed itunes.  The previous use is still listed.  When I try to login with my account, Apple says to view my account. When I do that, it revers back to the other user.  How do I get the other user off of my system so that I can use mine

  • How do I stop iTunes from defaulting back to library C:\USERS folder

    My iTunes library is stored in a NAS network drive. Everytime I lose connection to the LAN, iTunes always tries to be smart and default back to my C:\USERS\USERNAME\iTunes ... folder.
    Is there anyway to stop this behaviour. It is annoying to find out that iTunes has been copied all my new music files to my local drive until my local drive get filled up.

    I've had the same problem. The solution of not losing contact with the LAN is not an option for me. I have almost 400G of music. I keep it on my Time Capsule but my primary computer is my MacBook.
    Surely I should be able to open iTunes when I'm not within range of the Time Capsule with my iTunes music folder not defaulting back to the iTunes folder on my Mac HD? There must be a way to prevent the default?
    Sometimes I want to buy music from the iTunes store while I'm at work or import CDs I've purchased while on vacation. Will my iTunes music folder always default back to the Mac HD? Every time I have to change it back it takes me almost 45 minutes to reset it.

  • Creative zen V+ still not working after coming back from assistance for the second ti

    hallo, what thje hell is happening with creative Zen V+ I got it back from assistance for the second time and it's still not working!!!!!!!!!!! I want my money back now, I'm gonna spam the whole of the internet with this unfunny joke, what the hell I'm suppoised to do I really fed up, since I bought the unit it worked for less than one month and for another one it's been back to the assistance for two times!!!! And still it's not working!!!! Now let me tell you this creative zen V + is a worthless, costly, cheap piece of crap, and I mean crap, what the hell am I supposed to do now Send it back for the third time 249 euros for this crappy piece of cheapo plastic Please is it allowed me to send it back and having in change some olther player I don't mean it to be trendy or flashy or all of the usual marketing **bleep** coming with these, I just want a player that actually play my music, a player I can load all my music without the application to freeze, the player to freeze and me having to format and reboot again and again. Is it creative capable to accomplish such task, do they still know how to build an mp3 player that actually work without me having to buy and install windows vista Or they don't Do creative have some old player still in stock zen touch wasn't stilish but worked well until the HD dyied, zen V plus isn't working as it is supposed to do, plain and simple. What do I have to do now in case you are wondering the malfunction is still the same.

    For the Zen V, as it states on the box, you need Windows XP Service Pack or 2, or Windows Vista. You also need Windows Media Player 0 or . As long as you have that, you should be fine there.
    You may also have a corrupted file that is causing the problem. Try not transferring them all at once, transfer it in blocks instead. If one block fails to transfer, try and narrow it down and see if it's a specific file in that block causing the problem.
    When you try it on another PC, do be sure that PC meets the system requirements, especially the Service Pack if it's Windows XP. You'd be shocked how many times people try it on a 2nd computer, get angry when it doesn't work, call tech support, and find out the 2nd PC doesn't even have SP on it.
    All else failing of course contact Support. They can't help you if you don't let them know what's going on, and if you don't yell at them they'll do their absolute best, trust me.

  • Back up Assistant lost all my business contact phone numbers

    Saturday My Droid 3 that had already been difficult to use because it would not keep a new phone contact and would freeze in emergencies (I am talking get an ambulance, input a doctor's number while standing in the emergency room, or in business meetings, occasions like that) started losing the screen, it would go black if I opened the keyboard and then freeze with a black screen, continuously. It would not respond to attempts to turn it off. I took out the battery for a minute and put it back in and rebooted only to have the same thing happen over and over if I tried to use an app, make a call, view picture gallery, whatever. So I took my phone to the Oklahoma City, OK Verizon Wireless Store #331769 for CUSTOMER SERVICE. I showed the sales people my frozen black screen phone and that the back was broken and was being held on only at the top and by the neoprene case. They took the battery out and  put it back in and declared my problem solved and told me that my phone was like a computer and needed to be turned off once a day and kept charged. I assured them that I was aware of this and that I did turn it off and let it reset and I charged it up every night and sometimes in the day as needed. The FIRST SOLUTION was to reformat the phone which WIPED ALL INFORMATION AND APPS OFF OF MY PHONE. I let them do that and they sent me home with it to replace all my information and apps.
    Now I come to find that ALL MY BUSINESS CONTACT PHONE NUMBERS ARE MISSING from using Back Up Assistant. This is critical for my work!
    ALL CONTACT INFORMATION was missing on my online account! Why would that happen? I will synch what is left on my phone to my BACK UP ASSISTANT account online.
    I still haven't transferred the sim card to my "replacement phone". How can I insure that I don't lose all my contact information again???
    I am going to Verizon Wireless Store #331769 for CUSTOMER SERVICE directly after work. If they lose my business contact information and phone numbers, I will be forced to re-enter 200+ contacts before I leave to go out of state for work tomorrow..
    Any suggestions for a positive result?

    I'm sorry you were not able to get the contacts back. I know how irritating it would be to reload all those contacts.Were the contacts synced with the Gmail account? Please try backing it up with Gmail. Are you able to log in online  at www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon ?If so, Please log in and check the trash the contacts may of accidently been moved.

    I recently upgraded to the galaxy S3, when I went to upload my contacts, it had an error. Now when I go online I have no contacts anymore! Anyone know how to fix this? Or am I out of luck?

    Excellent question.  When you open the Verizon Cloud app you will see the menu option in the top left hand corner.  It consists of 4 vertical lines. Then you will select Settings and chose What to Backup. When it backs up the videos are you connected to wifi?

  • Back up assistant will not send 2 email addresses to phone

    I have loaded all my contacts in to a csv file and imported it in to back-up assistant.  Everything looks good when I look at it online.  When I sync with my phone (HTC Rhyme) any contacts that have 2 e-mail addresses only show one addy!  The csv file format was exported from BU so I know it is valid.  There is an email 2 field which goes in to the Personal e-mail online but only the Business email shows up on the phone - wierd??  Anyone??

    I would suggest taking that CSV and importing it into the Gmail account you use with this phone. You can verify all the information was transferred when you view your contacts through the Gmail website. This will sync with the phone without changes. Then remove the contacts from BUA and clear the data for Backup Assistant on the phone to remove any duplicates on there. In the end, you should only have contacts saved under the Gmail account.

    Log in to your account at verizonwireless.com.  Go to the My Verizon menu heading, and click on Back up My Contacts under the My Device option on the drop down menu that appears when you hover over My Verizon.
    Scroll down and on the left side menu near the bottom is a link to View PIN.

  • Why so spartan and user unfriendly SQL*Plus?

    I am relatively new to Oracle and therefore I would like to know why SQL*Plus command line utility is so spartan and user unfriendly.
    I am talking about SQL*Plus 10.2.0.1 included in Oracle 10g R2 for Linux x86. On many UNIXes platforms there are readline library and pager utility for output piping. Typical example of user-friendly command line utility is MySQL client. So, my question is:
    why is SQL*Plus binary different (not linked against readline library and doesn't provide a call to pager for output piping)?

    I think there is no tool that will do eveything that you want.
    SQL*Plus doesn't format good. Cannot use it for writing packages(sort of). But, it's good for things like 'set autoprint on' to name one. And it's good for tracing.
    SQL Developer: I personally got a bug filed on this one, and since then, lost interest in it.
    PL/SQL Developer: Love this for the way it integrates Visual Sourcesafe, but, it sucks in quering tables with XMLTypes.
    SQL Navigator: Love this for running queries against nested tables. But, this thing sucks at formatting. Somehow , unlike PL/SQL Developer, it semi CHECKS if your code is gonna compile or not BEFORE it formats. I say, dude, I am gonna have to compile the procedure in the database anyway, just format the damn thing.
    Toad: Basically use it to use the session browser, may use it to Kill a session. ( I know I should be using the provided DBMS packages to do that.).
    If you ask me, I can live with SQL*Plus and PL/SQL developer. Pl/SQL Developer because of formatting capabilities and Sourcesafe integration- which is absolutely important for PL/SQL too).
    My two cents.
