Behavior of UCM Cluster

Hi,
I am installing a new content server cluster and reading the clustering_concepts_10en and clustering_config_unix_10en documentation. I found some lines that make me worry. Here's the quote:
A Content Server cluster is different than other industry clusters. It is a single
installation with configurations placed on multiple machines. It is not composed of
multiple installations on multiple machines.
My questions are:
1) after this new cluster installed, if I have to apply a patch, update or another management task, the entire cluster will have to be shutted down? Is it possible to stop just a node of the cluster, patch it, and restart it, then proceed with another node?
2) Is there any type of instalation that I will have 2 nodes with the entire installation of content server that will garantee the availability of solution?
Thanks for your help.
Guilherme Drumond

Typically with a content server cluster installation you have X nodes (let's say two nodes for the sake of this discussion), and they share a section of the installation on a SAN or NAS. For examlpe, components are in this shared portion of the installation. You can start and stop individual nodes. Your question is alluding to a point of failure, and in this software the potential single point of failure is that SAN/NAS infrastructure. If you wanted to install a new component, or a new patch (which is typically done in component form) you would install the component normally through the admin server, and then restart each node to get it to kick in across the cluser. Make sense?

  • File does not exist: ucm cluster...

    Hi all,
I've a 10gR3 UCM cluster with 2 nodes. I've replicated a new web site project.
The request to node 1, works fine, but the node 2 gives an error. I've seen the apache logs at node 2 and get the next error:
[Fri May 18 09:10:04 2012] [error] [client 134.134.20.64] File does not exist: /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/<name of the website project>
It seems that the apache (at node 2) doesn't redirect to ucm and it's looking for the web site at local (apache document root).
This cluster has serveral web sites project working fine...but with this new web site project doesn`t work...
    Any advices will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advanced

do you see ucm related entries in your httpd.conf? are their any other .conf files being imported? perhaps in the /conf or /conf.d directory?
I'm thinking that you are missing a <Location /siteroot> or the <Location /> element on the broken server. I can't recall the 10g config off-hand, but there are some http server related post-configuration steps for site-studio. I'm thinking that they might not be working on the broken server. perhaps a restart of the http server on the broken server?
it seems that the path is going to the http server's documentroot instead of the ucm module, which it would do if the configs were correct.
I'd double/triple check those configs & do a restart of the http server.

  • Strange behavior with Quick Cluster and one shared machine

Hi, I've been struggling for a while with my compressor 4.0.7 distributed processing setup... Here is my configuration:
1 Mac Mini running as a Quick Cluster with services (3 instances of compressor shared)
1 Macbook Pro running Services Only (7 instances of compressor shared)
1 Macbook Pro (much older) running Services Only (2 instances of compressor shared)
All 3 systems are running Mavericks, but I had this same problem when all 3 were Mountain Lion.. Had to trash the app and all of the prefs in Library\Application Support\Apple Qmaster and Compressor and reinstall to get the app running on all of the upgraded machines, so a fresh start didn't fix this issue.
The Mac Mini and the older Macbook Pro can see the cluster, submit jobs and are both utilized for rendering when jobs are submitted from the Mini or the older Macbook Pro
The newer MBP can see the cluster in Share Monitor and in qadministrator, but cannot see any of the jobs in the history (the other Macbook Pro can see all details identically to the Mac Mini).  When a job gets submitted from this system it appears as "Not Available" on the Mac Mini share monitor and it only utilizes 1 local process to do the rendering, which stalls out after about 1 minute. Activity Monitor shows all 7 instances of compressord are running and not frozen but have no activity.
Jobs submitted from the Mini and older MBP attempt to use the newer MBP for distributed rendering but stall out after about 30 seconds with a host error.  The shared volume never appears on the newer MBP. Qadministrator on the Mini can see the newer MBP and all of the listed services as available.
Now here is the part that really blows my mind:
After submitting a job to the cluster from the newer MBP, which will stall out and need to be cancelled as mentioned above; submitting a job from the mini will actually successfully use the services on the newer MBP. Share monitor on the newer MBP still does not display any jobs on the server cluster. Rebooting the newer MBP puts me right back in the "I won't play with those other macs" tantrum.
Anyone else see this issue and have a fix for it? Workarounds are nice but this is very, very annoying when I get into crunch time.

    Do you have log files?

  • Hyper-V 2008 R2 cluster down

    Hello,
We have a 3 node Hyper-V 2008 R2 failover cluster. Yesterday we had problems and all VM's on node 3 went down. At 17:00 the back-up starts of the VM's which are on CSV(with DPM 2010 and hardware providers for Dell) but then one nodes crashed. It look like
node 3 tries to take CSV04 ownership but node 1 doesn't accept that. See the cluster log below. Can someone tell me what triggered this? And how to fix this? Many thanks!
It start with a message that some Volume manager disk group and Geocluster disks are not found. This says nothing to me.

    Hi,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior, from the cluster perspective.
Network activity could be related to our scenario too, although it is difficult to identify the specific cause. Maybe you can try reconnect the node 3 storage connective.Could
you offer us more information such as the failover cluster validation error, the failover cluster log original error log.

  • Logs for cluster config change

    Hi,
I've noticed some rather odd behavior on my cluster configuration. Before, in our production, I noticed who ever did the
orginal config put the admin server as part of a cluster. I'm looking at it now a month later and see that the admin is
    not part of the cluster.
Is there any part in any of the logs where it might show that someone removed the admin server from the cluster?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks..

btw, this is for Weblogic 8.1 .. sp4

  • Connect WebCenter 11g PS3 to a clustered UCM 11g ?

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to connect a WebCenter cluster to a UCM cluster.
I have mainly been flowing the [Enterprise Deployment Guide for Oracle WebCenter|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/core.1111/e12037/toc.htm] but in this crucial point the manual just explains how to generally connect webcenter to a ucm server in section "9.14 Registering Oracle Content Server with Oracle WebCenter" .
There seems to be no info in the internet on how to connect a WebCenter cluster to a UCM cluster.
Am I the first one to try that??
    regards
    Oliver

I have the same problem, we are using RIDC protocol, and have a UCM cluster, but use only one of the nodes..

  • Potential dynamic server list updating problem in cluster

We are running a cluster of four Windows 2000 Server boxes under WLS
6.1SP2. We have seen the following behavior in our cluster. We shutdown
a cluster member and then bring it back up. When it comes back up, the
IIS plug-in seems to start routing all requests to that new server.
Out cluster seems to have some multicast connectivity problems, e.g. we
often cannot see managed servers on the admin. console, etc. What I'm
wondering is whether the server when it comes up could be telling IIS
that it is the only cluster member because it isn't aware of any other
members. This would explain the plug-ins sudden affinity for the new server.
Is this possible? Has anyone seen this?
              Thanks in advance,
              Coty
P.S. The box that is being restarted and then hogging the requests is
also the server where the admin. console is running. Could that be the
issue? What exactly are the implications of running a managed server and
the admin. console on one box?

Is it that the admin server is also part of the cluster and is the server
              that is being restarted?
Try to have the admin server for purely administrative tasks and not as part
              of a working cluster.
If you have Debug set to ON in the plugin end, try checking the server list
              http://IISServer:port/dummyQuery?__WebLogicBridgeConfig
This should return the dynamic and static server list that the IIS proxy is
              supposed to forward.
Check before restart and after restart.
Also contact support to get the newest ISAPI plugin that contains latest
              fixes.

  • Problem: installing Recommend Patch Cluster: patch 140900-10 fails

I don't know if this is correct location for this thread (admin/moderator move as required).
We have a number of Solaris x86 hosts (ie 4) and I'm trying to get the patched and up to date.
I obtained the latest Recommended Patch Cluster (dated 28Sep2010).
I installed it on host A yesterday, 2 hours 9 mins, no problems.
I tried to install it on host B today, and that was just a critical failure.
Host B failed to install 140900-01, because the non global zones rejected the patch because dependancy 138218-01 wasn't installed in the non global zones.
Looking closer, it appears that 138218-01 is for global zone installation only; so it makes sense that the non global zones rejected it.
However, both hosts were in single user mode when installing the cluster and both hosts have non global zones.
140900-01 installed on host A with log:

It looks as if the patch strategy is completely different for the two hosts; both are solaris x86 (A is a V40z; B is a V20z).
Trying to use "-G" with patchadd crabs the patch is for global zones only and stops (ie it's almost as if it thinks installation is being attempted in a non global zone).
Without "-G" same behavior as patch cluster install attempt (no surprise there).
I have inherited this machines; I am told each of these machines were upgraded to Solaris 10u6 in June 2009.
Other than the 4-5 months it took oracle to get our update entitlement to us, we've had no problems.
I'm at a loss here, I don't see anyone else having this type of issue.
    Can someone point the way...?
    What am I missing...?

Well, I guess what you see isn't what you get.
Guess I'm used to the fact USENET just left things formatted the way they were :-O

  • Microsoft update KB 3002657 and 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization

After installing Microsoft update KB 3002657 on my Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster for virtualization, nodes in cluster lost connection to CSV and all my VM's were moved to node owning the volume.
I lost whole day to solve that problem.
But should i keep that update not installed on cluster nodes or anyone maybe has a solution for that ?

    Hi a3pl,
Unfortunately, the available information is not enough to have a clear view of the occurred behavior from the cluster perspective. Please offer us
more information such as the failover cluster validation error, the failover error event ID, with the current information it is difficult to presume which part may cause this issue, we strongly suggest you install the following update when you use failover

  • Single sign-on in weblogic cluster?

I am using wls 7.0 sp1 that form a cluster by two managed servers each at different
              physical machine.
In front of the servers, a hardware load-balancer providing a virtual ip that
mapped to the real ip of the 2 machines.
I deployed a web application to the cluster. The html & jsp files are all protected
              by Form Based Authorization.
My expectation is, whenever I sign-on to the first managed server, the login credential
should also be valid for the second managed server.
But it is not the case.
              My situation is:
              - open brower with url: http://virtual.ip:7001/admin.jsp
              - the load balancer map the request to my first managed server.
              - the response from the first managed server prompt the login page for username
              and password.
              - after POST the information, my target admin.jsp page display properly.
              - when I click the link within the admin.jsp page, eg. http://virtual.address:7001/status.jsp
              there is two possibilities:
              1. the load balancer route the request to the first managed server and everything
              well.
              or
              2. the load balancer route the request to the second managed server and response
              with login page again.
The second case is definitely not what I expected.
              Question:
Is it the default behavior of Weblogic cluster on the single sign-on? I think
my login is against a WLS domain (at least a cluster), not to a specific web server!
              Any comments are welcome.

Note my answer is not directly related to your question, but it might help.
From my experience to configure WL cluster with hardware load balancer, the session
stick (layer 7 switch) should be used (either using the session cookie, or ServerID
cookie). That is, unless one instance is down, all requests from the same session
are better go to the same server. I ever tried round-robin or random load balance
policy at hardware load balancer without session stick, and the result was as
              disappointing as you have seen.

  • Oracle UCM/IPM Issue - Urgent Solution needed

    Hi folks,
Solution needed for the below problem in oracle IPM/UCM cluster .
    General Scenario :
The document checked in Oracle UCM can be viewed through IPM Viewer only if the security group of the document is set to a IPM Profile .
The IPM Profile is created in Oracle UCM Configuration Manager Component whenever a application is created in IPMServer .
    Issue in Clustering :
IPMApplication created in host 1 is creating profile in UCM Component Manager of host 1 but not in UCM Host2 component manager (Vice Versa).
This affects url generations of checked in documents through proxy since the IPM profile is not available in cluster.

    I am open for suggestions...thx.

If, in CCMAdmin, you've got server hostnames rather than IP addresses, CallManager will use DNS to get the IP addresses of the other servers.

  • CF 7 cluster does not respond to configuration changes

I am evaluating the clustering capabilities of CF 7 in order
to upgrade our current CF6 + ClusterCats cluster.
I installed CF7 (enterprise edition – multiserver) in
two physical servers (Win 2003). On each server I created one
instance of CF and successfully registered the remote instance on
each server. Then, I configured the cluster on the first server,
selecting the weighted random algorithm for load balance and
session replication. Then, I used the webserver configuration tool
to bind the cluster to each IIS server.
The cluster worked properly, balancing the load between the
two cf instances, but when trying to find a way to temporally
restrict the load on one server for maintenance purposes I found
that the cluster does not respond to cluster configuration changes.
I changed the load to 0-100% using the coldfusion administrator
interface but it did not work. The cluster still sends requests to
the “restricted” instance. I even eliminated that
instance from the list of instances that integrates the cluster,
but it did not affect the behavior of the cluster. The eliminated
instance still serves request from the cluster. I even eliminated
the remote instance register and nothing… the cluster still
balancing the load between the two instances that originally
    integrated the cluster.
I do not understand how this is supposed to work. Does the
cluster configuration interface works only when creating the
cluster? When the changes in the cluster configuration performed
from the CF admin interface should be reflected by the behavior of
the cluster? What is the recommended procedure to temporally
restrict one instance from the cluster without stopping the
    service?
    I appreciate your help
    Eduardo

Thanks for the information Jochem. I am afraid that these are
not good news. If I have to restart the webserver in order to
change the load balance, some requests in progress could be lost.
My current configuration is composed by two physical severs,
each one running a web server and a coldfusion instance. We balance
the load between both webservers using hardware load balancing.
This is the procedure that I have to follow in order restrict one
    instance without loosing any request:
1.- Change server weight using Coldfusion admin interface
2.- Configure hardware load balance to restrict server 1
3.- Restart webserver at server 1
4.- Configure hardware load balance to enable server 1 and
    restrict server 2
5.- Restart webserver at server 2
6.- Configure hardware load balance to enable server 2
A similar procedure should be followed in order to enable the
restricted instance. I know that I can do it for 2 servers; but,
how is it handled in larger clusters? Is there a better procedure
to restrict one instance without missing requests?

  • Modified Date as dInDate during checkin into UCM

    Hi UCM Experts,
Is there a way I can map Windows "Modified Date" for a file to dInDate in UCM during checkin?
Currently it takes the present date as dInDate, when you checkin using web-interface or DIS.
Is that normal behaviour or else if it is a bug, is anyone aware of any patches?
    Regards,
    Prateek

It's totally fine mate. May be I should re-phrase my question:
    - Is there a way to capture the binary file object passed as primary file, in UCM's java checkin filter? If yes, how?
The user copies a bulk of documents to a DIS folder. The user identifies his current working files more by their last modified date.
Hence, once the files are copied into DIS folder, all dates are lost.
Our problem is mainly during bulk upload using folders (DIS). The time of copy operation is taken as dInDate, being the default behavior of UCM.
We wish to override this if there is a way to capture the date during upload + if the Modified date in file object is passed as it is, from source location.
I hope some Java/HTTP guru should be able to help me with this! :)
    Regards,
    Prateek
