Beware of the Nokia 6120c. Faulty product

This is my sad story with the Nokia 6120c.
First of all let me explain that I´m not a Symbian newcomer, 6120c has been my third Symbian s60, so I´m pretty familiar with such toys.
I bought my 6120 classic for christmas, because the feature set and the weight seemed impressive for the price point ( arround 250 euro ).
My first impression was that althoutgh the mobile was fast and nice, the build quality was worse than my previous S60s (N70 and n-gage). This was specially evident in some plastic pieces: The battery cover was like 1mm loose in all directions and the plastic cover for the loudspeaker was a little weak also... But anyway I was pretty satisfied of my purchase.
After a couple of days the phone started to have random problems with the sound. The mobile vibrated but no sound appear from the loudspeaker neither from
the earpiece. The phone was not even able to reproduce sounds even in the music player or in the modes screen. The only way to recover It was to turn on and off the phone. And no! the phone was not in silent mode After searching on google I was able to find that it was not an isolated case, the net is full of such reports, References:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=phones&thread.id=24666&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
/discussions/board/message?board.id=phones&message.id=32238
This is such annoying failure because you loose calls as you can not hear the caller, you need to reboot the phone and call later...
After 4 or 5 incidents in two weeks I started look for a new firmware after noticing that there was no new firmware in NSU. The only thing that I was able to find was that there was a new version 4.21 that appeared on early December but was pulled in a hurry from the NSU servers after 3 or 4 days ( I'm myself a firmware engineer and I know what this means ... ).

Last Monday January 7th tired of problems I returned to the shop and after explaining the story, the shop manager give me a new one. The funny thing was that he asked me if my Sim card was old. He claimed that the phone had problems with old sim cards... After googling a little i was able to find some references to that in Italian forums...
It seems that in Italy they are quite happy with the product...
The new phone had also problems with plastic pieces, again the loose battery cover and now the memory card door was loose and produced a rattling noise on vibration... Again I could accept that, I wanted the mobile.
After a week the phone has done the same than the previous one several times, today... 3 times!
Again I have checked for new firmware but the only thing that I have found is that Nokia has even pulled the support of 6120c from NSU. Hey this guys are having a real problem...
Not knowing what to do I have decided to give Nokia a late chance and call the care line in Spain +34 902404414 to contact an operator and ask if the issue was known and Nokia was doing something. The guy seemed to know nothing, and was absolutely uninterested, the only answer was go to the care point and install new firmware. On my question of if there was a new firmware he answered that he did not know... He was unable to log a case to any escalation team, he said to me to send an email throught the web...
Tomorrow I´m back to the shop to have a refund... I do not want another unit. I´m totally dissapointed. Nokia you have lost a good customer, a fan...
For your info
Both mobiles were 6120c-1 rm-243 Firmware 3.83 B1.04, the sim is a brand new one from the spanish operator Yoigo and I am using a sandisk sd micro of 2GB.

My 6120 doesn't have gaps or anything - I mean, that it's built okay. But, after a month of owning it, my navi key broke in half. That's kinda like...impossible. It didn't fall or anything, just regular using. It was replaced by the warranty, but that's still odd.
Overally I am also quite satisfied with the phone, especially for it's looks.
Anyway, now I have a new problem. Java applications run slow. For example even city blocks doesn't run smoothly. It has the newest (4.21) firmware.

  • Disable the camera - Nokia 6120c

I have the Nokia 6120 classic phone.
I want to disable its camera feature, so when I go to the camera's application i'll see a black screen or it won't work at all and it'll throw an error.
    How can I do it?
By the way, I have no problem disconnecting the camera physically - the question is whether it injure the phone electronics or not.
    Thank you very much,

You shouldn't try to remove bits of the phone, you never know what else you might damage whilst trying.
It could just be a software issue casuing the camera not to work, you could try reformatting the phone with the code *#7370# (make sure you backup personal data first witgh Ovi Suite or you will lose it all).
There is no issue with the Camera function. eladn wants to know if by any means the camera can be disabled...

  • Nokia Lumia 620 Product Fault

    Hi,
I have a Nokia Lumia 620 that I brought in early Februrary from Expansys and a month later it got a broken power button. First I sent it to the Nokia service center in Canada and they said that it wasn't from Canada and they could not repair it. I can understand this. Then I sent it to Expansys USA and they had the phone for a bit and then they sent it to China. I am about to recive the phone and the power button has not been repaired because it has been demmed user damage. This is a product fault, look how many people have a broken button with the Nokia Lumia 620:

  • Who can solve iSync problem with Nokia N95? (I use the Nokia plug already)

    Hello
Since I bought my new cool Mac:, I sync my N95 with iSync and the Nokia N95 plug-in. Thinking at first that is works flawlessly (as other members here seem to think as well) I later found out, that if I make changes to any calendar or "to do" description! on either the N95 or the Mac it syncs, but only up until a certain number of characters. If I exceed this number, the description on the phone will simply be cut off - in the iCal it still fully appears though.
Rather surprising, since when syncing with a PC via the Nokia PC suite there is no such an issue. All my often lengthy descriptions are fully put on the phone. And if I sync back there are no problems either. So I guess it has to do with the iSync protocol or this Nokia N95 iSync plug-in? Any ideas, solutions...? Any help greatly appreciated!

The flex cable is damaged. Some years back when I had a Nokia N95 8GB the flex cable was damaged and for a few days the screen was showing strange colours at the display and eventually the screen became black. I went to a local repair shop and I replaced the flex cable and what I noticed was that the flex cable that it had no proximity sensor on it so I told the technician to remove the proximity sensor on the original one and replace it with the new flex cable. Another thing I discovered was that after fitting the flex cable and returning the cover the front camera was not in its usual position so the technician had to do some modifications to get it back to its normal position and after a few months it was damaged and this time I went to Nokia Care Centre and replaced the flex cable for a small fee and what I noticed was that the flex cable that I previously bought was a fake cable. The one bought from Nokia Care Centre had its proximity sensor and when the cover was returned the camera was in its exact position the same as it was with the original flex cable. What I wanted to say is that please beware of fake flex cables on the market and I suggest that you buy it from an authorised Nokia Dealer.

  • How to connect my nokia 6120c to my mac laptop?

how to connect my nokia 6120c to my mac laptop? i want to use my phone as my modem

    Hi,
Listed below is the step by step intructions to configure the Nokia device as a modem to a mac. If you receive any cases/questions related to this, please provide the steps mentioned below.
    Steps:
Connecting your Mac to the internet is convenient and easy with your a compatible Nokia S60 device. You'll need a Nokia S60 device that supports a 2G or 3G data connection (such as GPRS or HSDPA), a compatible Mac (with the latest OS X), a USB cable for your Nokia device or a Bluetooth-enabled Mac, and a network subscription with your mobile service provider.
To set up your device you'll need to know your operator's Access Point Name (APN) and have the packet data service enabled. For help with this please contact your operator.
-In the following example, the APN name "Airtel" is used. This name will vary depending on your operator.
-On your device locate and open the Settings application. This is normally in the Tools folder.
-In Settings select and open Connection >Select and open Packet data > Select and open Access point >Type in your operator's Access Point Name
-Exit Settings. Your device is now ready to be used as a modem for your Mac!
-Bluetooth Connection: Pairing between Mac and Device using bluetooth, follow the instruction from here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-as-a-modem
Note: Preferred mode is USB as it much faster than Bluetooth.
Connect the device and then go to System preferences- >Network- >Select Device (Nokia XXX)
Click on Advanced Tab > Modem tab
    - Vendor : Nokia
    -Model:GPRS (GSM/3G)
-Telephone Number: *99***1# (contact your operator to get this settings)
-APN: airtelgprs.com (contact your operator to get this settings)
    CID: 1
Once connected it will be highlighted in green.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Cheers

  • The Nokia vs Customer Service Challenge

Nokia, let's see what your made of?
I bought a nokia N97 around 3 months ago. At this stage the Blackberry was the phone to have (still is) but being the nokia fan that I always "was" decided to go with the N97. Now please understand that this phone was an out-right purchase, not "free" on some contract, so it set me back a few bucks.
I have since talked friends out of taking Blackberry's, iPhones and other brands, convincing them that the N97 was the best phone ever made!
Since the beginning of month 2 I have had nothing but trouble with this NASTY piece of hardware that Nokia has sold to me at the price of 2-3 months rent of a house or a cruise for a week to some island.
The phones final destination and what happened today, which is what got me to challenge NOKIA on this forum is this. My phones battery died, I plugged it in using the original charger, with absolutely no response from the phone. I then thought it was a batter problem, bought a new battery, put it in and the phone came on. Then wanted to charge the battery as required, no response.
I then tried the USB data cable, no response from the phone or the PC. I called nokia up and was told to do a hard reset as it was a software problem (hahahahahahaha) what ever! I gave them the benefit of the doubt as they are Nokia and they should know what they are talking about right? LOL. I reset my phone, lost all my data, 3 months of images, email, contacts etc (I admit, I should have done a backup). My mass storage is non-existent anymore, it does not even open the folder or the drive, it tells me it is in use.
Even if my data was still on the phone, how would I get it off? The USB does not work. And how do I charge the phone?
I am very disappointed in my choice for taking the Nokia apposed to the iPhone as was my other choice, but even a Blackberry would have proved a better choice.
I would like to challenge Nokia right here to contact me and come up with a solution, to fix the phone for me (and provide another while doing so) or giving me a replacement. I will update the thread on a daily basis with all (if any) feed back I get from Nokia.
Come on Nokia, show us what your made of!
    Kind Regards,

Right now having had two posts removed as they are 'disrespectful to Nokia' or involved pm from Nokia, I try again (hopefully this is anodyne enough to get through):
Used to be nokia Fanboy not so any more (too old and see below):
Nokia N95 owned for 6 months. Returned after 6 months faulty - took refund.
Nokia N97 2 replacements - first two units failed almost out of the box.Third after 8 months with software problems. I felt s/ware to be flaky from the start I am afraid.
Nokia N900: pretty happy with this but bit discontent with Nokia obsolescing (expensive) mobile so fast. But now N900 returned to Nokia under warranty (unable to recognise sim card), returned to me one week later with same fault but now with Sim bracket totally detached.
First line support suggest that I wait a week while they investigate. Called back to make complaint and Nokia agree to UPS pick up next day.
Cal Nokia one week later and told phone is with UPS to be delivered and I should expect on that day. Call later to confirm but asking to be put through to second level support who then inform me that phone is not in delivery but is waiting for quality and assurance testing.
Nokia tell me that I should track through case reference:  enter reference supplied to their website and response is that there is no information about this repair.
I am now told Nokia will call me next Tuesday.
Compare and contrast friend has problems with HTC Desire (slow to boot/turning itself off occasionally). Replaced within week of first phone call.
Have spent 2-3 hours on the phone over this.
This post is to give my experience which may be different to others. I may have been unlucky but it is my experience so I would be grateful if it could remain. Others with a positive experience feel free to disagree and chip in.

  • E72 talk with the nokia customer care

i tried to talk to them with all the problems we E72 users are facing, but seems somehow that they either keep avoiding the question, or don't answer the question, but give answers that slightly have something to do with the question. either way their replies don't help whatsoever.
I tried to ask them to send a software engineer to look at our problems, I asked twice and they didn't answer both times.

Hi, I read that there is a new release for the E72, v51.018. From current posts in Nokia's discussion page, many of the problems that existed in v22.007 and v31.023 were not resolved in v51.018.
Furthermore, i read that program versions such as for Adobe Reader, the program did not update as v51.018 suggested.
Is it possible to release the full firmware fixes? Many people are confused as to what the 450 fixes were, since a lot of current problems have yet to be resolved.
    "Altogether 450+ errors are fixed"
Would you also be able to request an engineer to the Nokia Discussion forum in order to clear up any misunderstandings that current E72 owners have? that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Thank you for emailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.
We apologize for the confusion that we may have caused you. In response to your inquiry about the availability of the latest software update for your Nokia E72, please be informed that update availability is based on many things, including existing Nokia device software version, country, and operator. It may be due to one of these variables that your Nokia device is not eligible for updates.
Please note that your mobile service provider, operator, or carrier may not have approved the latest Nokia device software available.
Nokia produces many different variants of each product (for different countries and languages) and not all variants have the latest Nokia device software. It is our priority to update all variants as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any delay.
New software may become available at a later date and to get a notification when new software is available for your device, register with My Nokia and subscribe to email or SMS notifications.
New Nokia device software is released on a regular basis, but please note that not all countries and operators support the latest version.
Kindly refer to the link below to manually check for the latest available software update for your handset:

    We greatly appreciate your patience.

So, each E72 that has a v51.018 update are all completely different updates depending on the various E72 (singapore, North America, etc)? FOr the E72 that already have the v51.018 update available, many people have said that they are still experiencing problems that have been present since earlier firmwares.
Is there a location where we can see what changes are made on the varient E72 updates? Currently I have an E72-2 (North America) and I saw that the update is not out yet for the North American version.

Thank you for emailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.
In response to your inquiry, we are sorry to inform you that the specifications of the latest firmware is not available to our website. However you can check the latest firmware of your device on our website. I will be providing you the link for you to visit for more updates regarding our software updates:
    http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/device-software-update/can-i-update
THIS REPLY DIDN'T HELP ME AT ALL

On that website you provided, I did not see any message updates regarding software updates, merely whether my E72 model is eligible for a firmware update. Can you provide me the link with Nokia message updates regarding current firmwares? Also, there hasn't been much support on the nokia discussion forum about the current problems that the new firmware is experiencing. What is the update on that?
Is there any way of downgrading? many people have said that the out-of-the-box firmware version was the most stable and that the v31.022 and v51.018 were very unstable compared to the original.
    Thanks.
    Nokia Reply [11/09/2010]

I just went to the web link you provided, and it said that my warranty is still valid, however it has given me 10 days to mail in my device, otherwise i need to provide proof of purchase. Did i accidentally activate something? I merely input my serial number to see what my options are.
At this time, my phone has no problems, as i have not upgraded the firmware, BUT i am stresing that other owners of E72 are experiencing firmware issues, and I am asking if there is any way for a software engineer to investigate these issues so that future firmwares will have many issues solved that customers have found?
    Nokia Reply [11/09/2010]
Thank you for emailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.
We apologize for any inconvenience that we may have caused you. In response to your queries, we would like to inform you that you did not activate anything when you verify the warranty of your Nokia E72. No need to worry about the online warranty verification.
In regard to the firmware update, updating the software of the handset will fix minor and major software issues that is causing and can cause issues. It is not our intention to provide more problem with the update that we are releasing. The main goal of the updates is to improve the device’s general performance.
basically the conversation went in a full circle.. its obvious the firmware is to IMPROVE the performance of the E72, but it would be very helpful if a software engineer can SEE the problems that we are facing. Basically we are the guinea pigs who are testing the software stability, and they are the ones programming.. If they are not going to look at the problems we have exploited, there will be no solutions for this phone.

  • Please read this on the Nokia Updater - Important ...

    Hi All,
Well - it looks like you have really taken well to the new Nokia Software Updater. We can also see that there is a little bit of confusion about the service in its present state right now.
So... We got an email from the NSU team that gives a bit more info on the topic:
The Nokia Software Updater checks which software is available for your particular phone by comparing the software you currently have with latest software assigned to the 7 digit product code of your phone. If newer software is available for your 'variant', it will be downloaded.
In case the Nokia Software Updater says no new software is available but you believe this to be incorrect, please post your product code to these boards.
    Many thanks for your help,
    The Nokia Software Updater team
Your product code can be found on the label in the battery compartment (e.g. 0501234).
So, if you do run into problems, it would be a really great idea to let Nokia know what your product code is. If you find yourself needing to call or email Nokia on the topic - please include this code so that our support teams can get straight down to helping you out.
Please do not forget, the Discussion Board itself is not here to provide direct support, so if you have an issue and post here the NSU team may see it, but they will not be able to get back to you directly. If you need one to one support - please get in touch via phone or email.
    Cheers

    Greetings everyone.
I contacted Nokia Support, and they sent me some info on how to get support locally some days ago. However, I plugged my phone again today and voila! to my surprise, it detected the new firmware and right now that I'm typing, I am updating to the new version.
I'm not sure but I think I should thank Nokia Support for registering my Product Code and certainly for responding to my request in quite a short time.
I should also thank all the other guys who gave me help on this issue, specially scoopyman.

If the nokia software updater doesn't allow you to update then your phone is most likely network branded or network locked. Most networks don't bother approving new updates leaving their customers stuck with old firmware.
If your phone isn't network locked see this faq for more info: http://europe.nokia.com/A4577229#faq35

Please tell me where the file is stored (e.g. C:\sys ?) so I can delete it.
    Thanks,
    Eamon =)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

the code to reflash the phone memory is *#7370#. i think you missed out the #.
the phone will then ask for a security code which is by default 12345.
-REMEMBER TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS ACTION WILL WIPE OUT THE ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The T9 words saved in the phone memory cannot be viewed or edited as it is saved in the flash memory.
the words will be replaced as you keep saving more new words.its first in first out once you reach the capacity.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped.

  • Repeatedly being sold faulty products from HP

    Hi HP representatives,
I had bought a HP Envy X2 on 31st May. The details of the product are provided below:
Serial Number [edited Serial Number] & Product Number C8C95PA
Within a day, I found out that the product is faulty, the battery in the base would not charge no matter what I did!!
I raised a complaint (complaint#edited complaint number) and was issued a DOA (dead on arrival) status for the product. So I took the DOA and got on to get it replaced.
For this I travelled across the Bangalore city, on 7th June, in the awesome heat and infinite traffic and finally got the new unit from Devraj Infotech in Gandhinagar, Bangalore (the retailers who sold me before).
The details of new unit are provided below.
Product number C8C95P & Serial number {edited Serial Number]
But lo, while I was in the store I found out that the new unit too had the same problem!! The battery in the base would not charge (the same problem as before)!!
So, I called up the HP service center from the dealers shop itself (complaint # complaint number edited). They (the HP Service center folks) said me it is IMPOSSIBLE that the second time the product will be faulty. Also, the retailer would not replace the faulty product there and then (SINCE THE SEAL HAD BEEN BROKEN AFTERALL!!). Instead I was asked to get it diagnosed from service engineers from HP.
The service engineers from Maha Electronics, based in Indiranagar, come to diagnose the laptop and found the same problem and were again unable to rectify the problem.
I GOT A NEW DOA AGAIN!!! Yippeeeeee
I am again instructed to collect the DOA and then run to the dealer’s shop and then collect the product in a week, else the DOA will not be valid.
    My Question to you
WHY ARE YOU SELLING ME FAULTY PRODUCT AGAIN AND AGAIN? (Any bad karma of mine that you know about??)
    Don't i have a life to live?
Should i only spend my weekend running to your store for replacement, now that i have bought a product from you?
Could you for once brave the awesome summer heat and the endless, friendly traffic of Bangalore, spending the money on gasoline as I have (TWICE) and give me a unit that works…  (Do let me know what the experience is like)
What actions will you take if the third unit too is also a faulty one? Does it mean I HAVE TO RUN ACROSS THE CITY ONE MORE TIME!!
But, I thank you for helping me improve my health (by running across the town) and increase my nation's GDP by spending my cash on useless travel (After all my cash is not important)
I had been a fan of HP and thank you for making me realize, the hard way, that it is also about undergoing an awesome product and service experience
I thank you for the valuable lessons in chicanery.
    I FEEL ENLIGHTENED NOW!!
I am probably planning to go and visit the store again and roar again under the blazing summer heat with fewer dimes in my pocket and less time to spend for myself!!
    Thank you & <3

    Greetings!!!
I went to the store and to my delight I was handed the third defective product. A HATRICK!!
I like Lana Del Rey have managed to find my "SUMMER TIME SADNESS"
After I called up the customer service once again (from the store itself), I was informed that
This is a rare scenario!! (BUT NOT FOR ME). In my life's sample space I obtained 100% defective product from you
Guarantee of providing a well working product can never be given
Reimbursement of money, i paid for the product, is in oblivion
I will never know if any actions will be taken for the 3X glitches i faced ( Some new protocols have been initiated which are confidential)
The vendor said me that he would take care of the new complaint and get a DOA certificate. Also, with the vendor's support I got the HP Pavillion X2 (Since, i did not want to lose out on the money i paid before and did not know if HP would pay me back so that i could walk back home with the money i spent).
A good friend of mine now says me "I run more than my computer"
I am praying to God that this time the new computer works ceaselessly...
