Bigger resolution then screen

Sometimes when I log in, the resolution too big. If i go to System > settings > monitor, the screen flashing, and set the good (1280*800) size.
Before tfis metfot, my desktop looks like this:
in my xorg.conf:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier      "Screen0"
        Device  "Card0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        DefaultColorDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth   24
                Modes "1280x800"
        EndSubSection
EndSection
But i tried to delete it, not sovlad. I tried the old gdm, isnt solved (an othet problem with the new gdm, sometimes it isnt appear. When i change to tty1 and back, it apperas)
can someone help me?
thx

The Font is fine for pringing

Mac's don't have UI scale options like Windows has.
Either you can drop the screen resolution in Displays a wee bit and make things appear distorted, or do what I do and use the Universal Access and set a control key, then use a mouse wheel/scroll to zoom in and out where the mouse is pointed.

  • N-Series NEEDS a high-resolution touch-screen!

    Dear Nokis,
If you only do one good thing in 2008 please let it be an N-Series S60v3 phone with the following specifications:
    *Larger, higher resolution touch-screen.
    *Alloy casing, not all plastic.
    *5MP camera with Xenon flash.
    *640*480 30fps video recording.
    *Integrated GPS.
Hell, basically all I want is a phone which has all the features of the N82 but with the larger, higher resolution touch-screen. I use my N82 for internet when I am out of the office and even with Opera Mini browsing is a complete pain in the **bleep**. A touchscreen would help with browsing so much it would completely change the way we use the phones, and a higher resolution would make it so much more practical.
If you need to make the phone bigger then so be it, just PLEASE give us a higher res touchscreen!
    *begs*

I do keep my eyes on the news sites and saw that one had been demo'd, its just I fear that the models that will eventually be released wont be as fully featured as I specified in my original post!

  • Having a bigger resolution than the native one?

    Hi,
I own a Samsung NC10 netbook and on a conference a met a guy who own this, too . This poor guy uses Windows on his machine, but I have to admit that he used a feature that I find quite useful: When he connected his netbook to a projector and cloned the output, the resolution of the projector (1024*786 i guess) was higher than the one of the netbook (1024*600). What happened on his windows machine was that he could scroll to the bottom of the screen to see the missing 186 pixels that where shown in the silver screen but cut off on his LVCD.
When I (with Arch) use the NC10 on a projector I can only see the additional 186 pixels on the silver screen and I have no access to the bottom of the LVCD (what can be difficult when the silver screen is behind you ).
So, is it possible, to have this feature in Linux/Arch, too? To use a bigger resolution on the LVCD and "scroll" to the missing parts by moving the mouse to the edges of the screen?
I hope I explained this clearly - otherwise ask for more/other informations
    Thanks!
    barghest

    Yes ,if you run
    xrandr --fb 1024x768 --output LVDS1 --panning 1024x768 --output VGA1 --mode 1024x768 --pos 0x0
(LVDS1=the notebook's screen, VGA1=the beamer) you can scroll the internal panel up and down by moving the cursor to either edge while both outputs use 1024x768 and show the same thing. But this isn't really usable for presentations.
    xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1x1.28 --output VGA1 --pos 0x0 --mode 1024x768
would stretch LVDS1 vertically to match the beamers resolution. But if you use KMS, --scale is currently broken, it just scales the background, nothing else. Example: Fedora Bug Report, the Arch version has the same problem.
    Now, the modeline thingie:
    You can calculate one using gtf x y R (x=horizontal width, y=vertical width, R=refresh rate). Running gtf 1024 600 60
    results in
    # 1024x600 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 37.32 kHz; pclk: 48.96 MHz
    Modeline "1024x600_60.00" 48.96 1024 1064 1168 1312 600 601 604 622 -HSync +Vsync
The quoted part is just the name to use in xrandr's --mode command, so i removed the _60.00 and included it in the monitor section of my xorg.conf among others (i.e. 640x480 is there so I can run Starcraft in fullscreen ):
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "LVDS1"
    VendorName "ASUS"
    ModelName "EeePC 1000H"
    Modeline "1024x600" 48.96 1024 1064 1168 1312 600 601 604 622 -HSync +Vsync
    Modeline "800x600" 38.22 800 832 912 1024 600 601 604 622 -HSync +Vsync
    Modeline "640x480" 23.86 640 656 720 800 480 481 484 497 -HSync +Vsync
    EndSection
The X server adheres to these settings even if you're using KMS but I don't know if it does if you're using hotplugging because in this case these settings are intended to be generated automatically. I just use them because I don't want to use HAL. But trying to force a resolution bigger than the native one this way doesn't work for me.

XFX Radeon HD 5770 = PC only card, compatibility is not a guarantee
You realize there is EFI type firmware that makes a Mac a Mac? and PC even with "UEFI" don't require or use graphic cards, hence Apple vs PC
you know by going to Apple Store or a vendor like OWC or that says "Mac Pro" Compatible - you can find Apple hardware on Amazon for instance.
Or you buy from a vendor like MacVidCards that deals with GeForce cards (mostly if not exclusively) FOR Mac Pro.
And there are different options for 2008 vs older which is why it is important when you have lack of clarity and have one thread being thread-hijacked in two.

photos in my iPhoto library will not enlarge when double clicked on.  they fill the screen for a second (or less) and then screen goes black.  hasn't happened before.  thanks--

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion.  To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4.  What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content.  Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems.  You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults.  A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install.  If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

my macbook boots up, I get a screen picture then screen goes blank...I get the start up sound, then a picture, then the screen goes blank but computer is still on..does anyone know what the problem is...do I need a new battery or am i just screwed.

    Hello nosaint1961,
It sounds like you are unable to successfully boot your computer to your desktop. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening named:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • Nano 6th turns on for a few seconds then screen goes black and nothing. what is wrong with it....

My 6th gen nano turns on for a few seconds, then screen goes black and nano goes off. what is wrong with it? can any one help me out? do I need new battery? do I need a full repair? or is there something I can do myself to fix it.  Thanks for your help.

At the moment I say as I've fixed, momentarily:
    I made a downgrade to 1.0
The problem, gentlemen, is the upgrade from 1.1 and 1.2
It is a pity that I lost all the new features offered by the new firmware , just because Apple staff could not think to try this new update, on ipods with some airtime.
I hope Apple pull out a version 1.3 with the ability to choose the feature detection, and the user can disable it at will.

  • GeForce FX 5600 - LAST NVIDIA driver Resolution of screen

    Hi all,
I have recently bought BattleField Vietnam and this game requiers the last NVIDIA Driver. I have downloaded them here : http://www.nvidia.com
The game is OK but i have problems with my Resolution of screen... I can't  choose a resolution between 1024*768 and 1280*1024... It is either one or the other but not between
MSI doesn't proposes the last nvidia driver
    PLEASE HELP ME.

How can that be I just checked my game And I have 1152x864 in the list. Are you sure that your monitor supports that resilution?
One thing you may try is Go and find a file called VideoDefault.con in your /mods/BfVietnam/settings Directory under Battlefield Vietnam open it with notepad and change this line renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 from 0 to 1 and save and close. This will now allow all refresh rates in the game.
The game came with the 56.56 drivers not the 56.64 drivers
