Bootcamp partition lost after moving to larger HDD (Mavericks and Win7 X64)
Hi Folks!
I read those topics concerning lost and broken bootcamp partitions and I am Wondering if someone may help me.
What was my aim: Due to lacking space of my 320 GB HDD I moved to a 750 GB HDD.
I did this by installing Mavericks from a USB disk and rebuilt it with TM. After the installation I had a fully working Mavericks partition and the MacOS recovery partition.
Next step was to rebuild the Bootcamp partition. For that I installed a new copy of windows via bootcamp assistant. After booting up the first time I booted the mini partition wizard cd, deleted the bootcamp partition and rebuild the partition from the old HDD changing the size fitting to the available space. After rebooting I chose to boot from the Win7 DVD and chose the repair option to fix windows. Everything worked well, I could boot into Win7 and it showed me both partitions (Mavericks and bootcamp).
BUT
when i boot into MacOS it is not able to mount the mavericks partition.
After checking it with fdisk and disk I found out that the bootcamp partition was recognized as FAT32 by the disk utility program, which always told me that it was not able to repair the bootcamp partition.
So I followed Christopher Murphy's instructions to change the type for FAT 32 (0C) to ntfs (07) with the effect that I can't boot windows anymore due to "operating system not found" error.
So this is what the refit partition inspector tells me about my HDD:

And this is a photo of the disk util (in german)
And this is the error when I try to check it:
Next step is to try to cover the windows copy. I guess startup repair will work, unfortunatly I have no DVD at the moment right here.
But my problem is not the restoring of windows but to mount the bootcamp partition in Mavericks again.
Any help?
Thanks in advance
Phil
Ok, it works again. But actually I don't know why. After neither startup repair nor mini partition manager could repair the ntfs partition, i deleted it and rebuilt it from the old HDD (fortunately not deleted yet). The only thing I did in difference was to boot into Mavericks before starting startup repair after i copied the partition. For any reason Mavericks recognized it this time. I have no clue why but everything is working.
So far...

After that I follow this solution
Rebuild using start/end offsets from Testdisk DeepSearch using GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/)
Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0

Enter: to continue
NTFS found using backup sector, blocksize=4096, 49 GB / 46 GiB
And I have to P :list all MS Data

How do I ensure bootcamp partition works after upgrading snow leopard to mountain lion
I am very apprehensive about upgrading to Mountain Lion due to performance concerns and the debacle with the new Auto Save feature which seems like a very poor and confusing solution to a problem that didn't really exist. I am only considering the upgrade, so that I can get the latest version of Xcode - 4.3; for some reason, 4.2 for SL is no longer available and my current 4.0 version is no longer supported, so I feel forced to upgrade to ML. Also, I have a bootcamp partition that I need to be able to use without issues after having upgraded to ML. So the essence of my question is this: what steps do I need to take prior to upgrading to ML to ensure that my Bootcamp partition is left intact and bootable. I have already created a compressed backup disk image and stored on a separate external hard disk for precautionary reasons. Is there anything else I should know beore going ahead with the upgrade?
Thanks.Auto Save is actually a very useful feature. If you are typing a paper in Pages and you haven't saved in a long time, and then your battery dies suddenly, your paper is saved. Before Auto Save, you would have lost all your progress.
Your BootCamp partition will not even be touched during the install of Mountain Lion. As long as you make sure to select your Mac OS partition during setup, nothing will happen to your Windows side and everything will still work fine. -
Bootcamp partition issue after Yosemite upgrade
I've installed bootcamp on my mac. Later on I needed more space on my bootcamp partition and used some method to shrink the mac partition and increase the bootcamp partition. This method worked fine until I did a Yosemite upgrade today. Now I see that my bootcamp partition is gone and has reverted to it's original size. Below is a screenshot of disk utility and outputs of the commands wanted. I need help in recovering my bootcamp partition. Thank you very much.

Cannot delete bootcamp partition/free space on HD (OS X Mavericks)
I am having trouble removing a bootcamp partition made a while ago. I thought removing this partition would be as simple as using disk utility to delete the partition, and extend the Macintosh HD partition back to its original size.
However, after clicking the minus sign using disk utility I am now left with 51.24GB free space where the bootcamp partition used to be and cannot seem to do anything to bring the hard drive back to one single partition.
I have tried using boot camp assistant, which is useless. I have to tick either "Install Windows 7" or "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple", and when I click to install windows 7 (which below says it can be used to remove an existing windows partition), it only lets me re-size the Windows partition to a smaller 20GB size. It does not give me the option to remove the partition like it says it does on the first page and like I have seen on examples online (which I am sure are from previous OS X versions).
I have tried going to disk utility when booting from the recovery disk, however this does not give me the option to erase the entire disk then start again from a time machine backup; it only gives me the option to erase my current 268.48GB Macintosh HD partition, which wouldn't be any use.
I have verified the disk and all seems ok. I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Memory.
Any help appreciated as I am running low on HD space on my mac and the extra 50 GB that I can't seem to free up would be very useful.Give this a try:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This will install the default version of OS X that came with your computer if it came with Lion or later. If it came with Snow Leopard, then you must do this instead:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

Will i lose my bootcamp partition on snow leopard if upgrading to maverick
Hello, I have bootcamp with Windows 7 on Snow Leopard. Will I lose the bootcamp partition if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Maverick?
Hello everybody, I upgrade my macbook air minutes ago. The bootcamp partition is not accessible anymore When i hit the alt key on boot, the win start icon does not show. I disk utilities i see the partition as disk0s4. I think this is, because i resized the partition of mac and windows some time ago. Now it seems, that the maverick update didn't get that. Here is the partition view. Is there someone who might help me to fix this? Maybe with some terminal ****

BSOD After Installing Boot Camp 5640 Drivers on Win7 x64
I get a BSOD after installing the Boot Camp 5640 drivers on Windows 7 x64 Professional due to "CACHE_MANAGER". If install the drivers individually, this does not happen (provided I don't run bootcamp.exe).
This wouldn't be a problem except that I can't get the trackpad working properly without running setup.exe or bootcamp.exe.what is your exact rMBP
check here and make sure you are trying to install the right boot camp pkg for your windows version and machine

At first my laptop was fine after the earphone end got stuck in. Soon it started getting slower, and suddenly it stopped switching on. The people in the service station said that it wAs because the hard disk drive was corrupted. I came back home, and immediately it stopped working again. This time they said it was because of water spill. They changed the entire key board and then it started working for a while. Later I updated to maverick and that slowed down my computer. Once, I switched on my laptop, logged in, and then the screen went white. When we took it to the service center they said they will need to replace the hard disk. I am not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?
Liquid damage from water spill is progressive, unfortunately.

Bootcamp partion lost after OS X update, Need help repair my disk.
Hi.
After updating to Yousimiti yesterday, i encountered som problems with my bootcamp partion.
I wasn't able to boot from the partion. I googled a lot, and found some posts, where the problem was resolved, and followed the following steps:
sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0
p
setpid 4
07
flag 4
p
write
y
After this i was able to boot form my Drive, but it tells me: "Operating system missing".
Then i started investigating further i saw that my bootcamp partion now only is 60GB, where before it was 100GB.
When i first made my Bootcamp i made it 60GB which i fast found out was not enough for the programs i needed, so i used a program on windows to expand the patron, from empty space on the disk. Now i have 40GB blokced space, and the 60GB Bootcamp.
From what i have read the problem is that Windows and OS X does not use the same Data table format.
Is it possible to Rewrite the datable, os that OS X knows that the Windows part is 100GB and not only 60?
Underneath here i linked to some screenshots of the problem, Hope you guys can help me! (Sorry that it is danish, hope you see et anyways)
And there some info that i got from a "Partition inspector app":

Partitions lost after ghost installation
Hi Everybody !
My friend has problem with his iMac. He wanted to install windows 7 on a separate partition.
So, he created a second partition, and he use GHOST system to install windows 7 on the partition he created earlier.
When windows installation was done, he realized that the windows delete all his OS X partitions.
He doesn't have his os x partition and his recovery partition anymore.
Is there a way to get his partition back ??
Or if not, is there a way to retrieve his data from his deleted partition ?
I thought he could use an external disk to install os x, to gain access to his disk which have deleted partition and then retrieve his data with a software ?
Does anyone knows a solution for this problem ??
Thank YouHe should have used Boot Camp Assistant to correctly partition his system for MS Windows. If he did then I'd suggest moving this thread to the Boot Camp forums. If he did not use Boot Camp Assistant then I'm afraid I cannot be of further assistance.

Mail and adresses lost after moving home.dmg to another mac?
Having to move someone from one mac to another (both G4s running 10.2.8). I thought I'd simply be able to delete the user from the old machine, thus creating a ".dmg" file of that user. I then transferred this to the new mac where I had created a new user account of the same name as on the old mac. Having then logged in as root, I deleted the contents of the newly created user's Home folder and replaced it with the contents of the mounted .dmg file.
Logging back in as the new user, I find that Mail and Address Book have both lost their links to the transferred data files that were associated with the user on the old mac!
How can I re-establish the links with the previous data (if it still exists, which I hope it must do!)?
Many thanks

PBG4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)
PBG4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)On my Windows XP operating system, the organizer file is located in my profile's directory:
%USER%\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\9.0\Organizer90 (I have Acrobat Pro 9.2)
I have shared my organizer file with coworkers, but all my documents are located on a network and we are all mapped to the drives in the same way.
If a file is moved from where the Organizer has it referenced, the file will disappear from the collection. The Organizer90 file can be opened in notepad, but it is not meant to be edited that way. Editing the file will cause Acrobat to delete the altered file and regenerate a new one. -
HT1449 iTunes files - didn't copied all after moving to new HDD.
I have a 2nd HDD and running out of space on the first one. So I followed instructions and organized but it didn't copied all the files to the new location. Missing many different files; books, songs, apps, etc. What do I need to do? Did this twice.
Attempted to uninstall Quicktime. The uninstall will not finish, saying it encountered a fatal error. Quicktime will not run, either.
when a QuickTime uninstall throws that message at folks, it's usually best to try completely scraping the itunes and QuickTime program files and installation configuration information from the PC, and doing a careful staged reinstall afterwards.
try the technique in the following post. (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove isn't letting you uninstall one of the programs.)

Replacing SingleLayer SuperDrive with DoubleLayer
Does anyone know if this can be done on a first generation MacBook. If I were to change the SingleLayer SuperDrive, can a Dual Layer Drive be installed?
