Hello,
Legato log files might tell you more about the root cause.
And here's just a guess: Files permissions have to be considered as well. Did you do backup and restore as the same operating system user? If users are different, then different permissions may be a problem.

I have an iMac OS X 10.6.8 and have problems with the backup drive to Time Machine ejecting itself and so does not automatically backup the way it is meant to do. It is connected with an USB cable to my iMac. What could cause this - malfuntioning drive?

The "iLife" apps are not part of any Mac operating system install and are a separate purchase.
Once you get past 10.6.6 you can purchase and download iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie. iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued.
Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and higher include the App Store application which is what you use to purchase Lion.

Backup Error - 0x810000E4 Windows Backup has encountered a problem with the backup catalog

Dear all,
I'm trying to backup my files onto a 2TB big external USB disk. My computer is Dell Latitude E4300.
When I run the backup, it runs normally but ends with this error:
0x810000E4 Windows Backup has encountered a problem with the backup catalog
When checking the zip files on the USB drive, it seems that only some of the files have been backed up. The same confirms the restore option when I browse the files in the backup.
When I start the backup again, it continues - i.e. acknowledges the files already there and backs up a additional files but again fails after some time.
Any ideas please.

Time machine backup problem with company backup.

I have serious problems with making backups of our company computers by Time Machine.
We have Synology NAS with Time Machine Support. When I made setting for Time Machine backups (users, shares, quotas, etc. ) ewerything worked fine. All Time machines uses one directory, that appears on the network like a Time capsule. Machines have their own accounts with quotas etc. After a few days started many problems. Some Time Machines has missed their target sparsebundles and unsuccessfully tried write into some others. After Time Machine restart and new manual setting problem persisting. Only successfull solution is complete remove all affected sparsebundles (miss all older backups) and make new ones. This problems appears on many different computers with various OSX version 10.6 - 10.8.
Can you help me with this problem?

I have used OS X Server on an Xserve and gained the impression that it did little that OS X would not do. Earlier versions had a fairly easy to use GUI but as it developed it became more tedious and unreliable than using OS X on the same hardware. It was far from cheap for unlimited users even with educational discounts.
At one time OS X Server was more advanced than the same version number OS X - about half a version ahead.
I am not saying that it may not be faster to set up if you have had previous OS X Server experience but it is a steep learning curve after only OS X experience. The average user would get there faster with one of the many tutorials on the web about using OS X as a server.
At one time OS X Server had a security bug in that it confused FTP root with machine root under some conditions leaving the whole disk open to the public.

I am having a problem with my McAfee Backup utility. I receive a .NET conflict for port 9000 when it attempts to load. I was told by McAfee Tech Support that the Oracle Forms port utilizes port 9000. Problems with VLM Import Utility

Hello!
We I are using NI Volume License Manager 3.0 together with NI Volume License Manager Import Utility for importing users data.
The problem is that we can't import .xml data into VLM when the user types his name into Full Name field and his name contains characters like ČŠĆŽĐ čšćžđ. These characters are not correctly written into .xml file with VLM Import Utility and we have to manually replace them with Microsoft Expression Web before we can load .xml file into VLM server.
Do you have better solution? Is there some new version of NI Volume License Manager Import Utility that correctly handles non English characters?

Sorry for not having a god news. This issue is a known bug (You can refere to it by a number CAR - Corrective Action Request - #320545). Unfortunatelly, I have no knowledge about a workaround for this.

I have problem related to backup with maintenance plan in sql server 2008 and 2008 r2
I created maintenance plan to take full back up with copy only option checked, but when I check the back up in backupset table is_copy_only column it shows 0 for databases that I run job for.
I did the same steps on sql server 2012 and I checked backupset table is_copy_only column it shows 1 for databases that I run job for .so it works as it should be
Note: all the servers I mention here are production servers

Copy-only Backup by using GUI ( SSMS) in SQL Server 2008 but it was not available in Maintenance Plan "Back
Up Database Task". Now in SQL Server 2012 It is included in "Back Up Database
Task".

Do you know which command is running to generate those log entries? Is it:   ocrconfig -local –manualbackup
That command works just fine for me:

Problems with startup, disk utility, everything else (it seems)

So I've been having problems with my iMac for about a week (I believe I'm running OSX 10.5 with whatever the most recent update is) (also, it's a 24" that I bought refurbed last October). I kept getting the ?file screen upon startup, but eventually it would start just fine.
I thought I managed to start and restart in safe-boot yesterday, but now I'm not so sure.
This morning I tried to do a Disk Utility from the install disk, only I'm a bit confused. This is supposed to find the hard drive, right? so I can do the tests to it and hopefully fix whatever problem there is? Because the utility was only finding the install disk, and then that got stuck and won't even eject (this is where I stopped because I had to leave for work). And when the install to where screen came up, there were no options for where to install the OS.
I haven't been able to get anywhere to run the hardware test or do a safe-boot or any of those options. I also have not yet called Apple or taken the mac into a store.
So I am starting to think that perhaps my hard drive is screwed. Am I right, or are there other things I should try first? (And if anyone has any suggestions for how to get that install disk to eject, I'd love to hear them--every time I tried that from the Disk Utility screen, I got an error.)

To eject the disk, restart the computer while holding the mouse button down.
The rest of it sounds like hardware, but without being able to boot from the software install DVD, I cannot think of a way to go further. I would take the computer to an Apple store for diagnosis.

Rescue and Recovery - problem with sceduled backups

hello,
I use XP on a T61, with all latest updates...
It seems R&R does not complete sceduled backups or does not list the generated backup.
today (sceduled every 1st of month) it started and works, may be 1 hour, but no new entry in the list of backups was generated ? during run no messages were displayed except because of some files which were not able to save by r&r.
It seems, same problem was on 1 of january - no backup or/and no entry in list.
So I started another backup manually. this was ok and a now an new entry is in the list.
Does anybody have an idea ?
Could it be a problem with Norton Antivirus Protection ?

Problems with java logging utility

I am having a few problems with java's logging framework.
When I create a logger using
Logger log = Logger.getLogger("my.com");
and log my messages using this "log" object, the messages are logged to System.err which is my console. But when I add a Filehandler to this Logger object, I get log messages both in the file and the standard error.
The problem is that I want to supress logging to the standard error but do not know how to do this. I tried a few things:
1) If I close the standard error (System.err.close() ), things work fine but I can't afford doing this since other parts of my application might use System.err for some purpose.
2) I thought that , by default, a ConsoleHandler object is added to the Logger object. So I thought I might get around the problem if I close() this ConsoleHandler object. But, to my surprise, log.getHandlers() returns an empty array by default. So there is no ConsoleHandler attached to it.
Any info. regarding it will be very much appreciated.

Problem with delay printing utilizing a canon IR c1030 with the lasted drivers

Hi, I am a total noob at Mac OS
I have Macbook pro with Mountain Lion installed I also have conected to our organization a Airport Express which I use around the office. The problem is that my department have a network printer Canon IR C1030 which I installed the lasted driver UFRII but when I print its takes a very long time and most time a get the error code: 9 and out of 10 pages I get only 3 to 4.my guesss is that is a problem with the Airport Express and latency but I am not sure. could someone give me a clue what to do next

Does the iR C1030 have support for WiFi or is it using it's built-in Ethernet port to connect to the AirPort Express? Or are you using the USB port on the C1030 to connect to the Express?
If the C1030 is connecting to the Express via Ethernet, then as a test I would suggest you connect the MacBook Pro to the Express via Ethernet also.
Note that if there is only a single Ethernet port on the Express then you will need a unswitched hub to connect to this port on the Express and then you can connect the Mac and C1030 to the other Ethernet ports on the hub.
If you get the same latency when printing from Mac for this Ethernet-only setup, then this would confirm that it is not a WiFi issue and there is something else contributing to the delay.

Unforeseen problem with TimeMachine backups and Airport Extreme

Some of you and many others on the net have reported getting TM to work over Airdisk with AEBS. My question is, as an unsupported feature, shouldn't we worry about how the restoration process would be? Once I load Leopard and want to restore my system if anything happened, I might run into a huge problem if my TM drive is not recognized by Leopard over Airdisk using AEBS. Even if I do the update, it may not be identified and I may be stuck basically remaking my entire account from scratch including all my personal files and docs.

I actually was successful in doing a full restore of my Time Machine AEBS USB drive by connecting it directly on my iMac. I booted the iMac with my Leopard DVD (with my Time Machine USB drive connected directly on the iMac), formatted my new iMac internal hard drive from the DVD's Disk Utility, then use Restore from the DVD menu to select the Time Machine backup of my choice (exact date/time) from my USB drive. Finally, I selected my new internal Drive as the target, went to sleep, and when I got up in the morning, my iMac was fully restored!

Your iPhone cannot be restored because there is a problem with your backup data. Choose a different backup to restore from.

I was receiving this error while trying to restore my new iphone 5 from my iphone 4s backup file over the icloud.
I finally figured out the solution after HOURS of working with both ATT and Apple. Both were as helpful as possible and after speaking to an Apple Sr Tech we discovered I received this error because my backup file was corrupt.
His suggestion was an obvious suggestion of deleting this backup file and recreating the backup. So I deleted the backup and began to recreate the backup on my 4s (now I was lucky in that I was upgrading my other line and still had my 4s available to me to play with), during mid backup my backup would stop and have at the bottom of the screen that the backup wasnt complete (and also that "Last Backup: Never") even though I could see backup data was saved. This was the same problem I had initially, not having a complete backup for my iphone 5 to restore from (Your phone will not restore without a complete backup file).
I did some further research and found that because I had the FACEBOOK app on my previous iOS5 and upgraded to iOS6 (iphone 4s) it for wahtever reason would cause the backups to become corrupt or incomplete. So I deleted the FACEBOOK app from my 4s and reset the phone, after I started it back up I deleted the incomplete backup file again for my 4s and then began the backup once again. This time the backup completed perfectly and I was able to now go to my iphone 5 and restore all my apps, etc.
