Brand spanking new to MP3 and my Creative Zen To

Hi Folks Hope you can help with this one. My mate has gone off travelling the world, and upgraded his MP3 player, and gave me his Creative Zen Touch 20gb player. He gave me all the leads, but no instruction book or driver CD. However, when I connected it to my PC running XP, it couldn't see it at all, and on my wife's laptop running Vista it could see it, but wanted the installation CD, and wouldn't communicate from the web-page with it. Do I need the installation CD, or am I being a total numpty with it, and missing something extremely easy ? Answers in the form of less than one syllable would be great !! Thanks for looking in

CHARGE THE BATTERY FULLY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING? ELSE. And you were concerned you might not get it Ok I really don't like instructing people on firmware updates since alot of people have trouble doing them unless they really know what to do if it goes awry. So if you feel confident about doing this go back to the page where you found the driver & download the Plays For Sure Firmware? ver. 2..0? to your desktop. READ THE DETAILS FOR THAT FIRST . Truth is good thing you never had any creative software on your computer before trust me that's a Huge plus. It won't be interfering with the update since you don't have any on there. Don't even try to backup any music that may be on the player since you don't have any creative software other than the driver. Remember READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST >BEFORE YOU TRY TO UPDATE FIRMWARE? Good Luck Let Me know how it goes. BTW where on the planet are you? I'm in So. California. During the upgrade windows autoplay will most likely open ? IGNORE IT DON'T CLOSE IT OUT.

I am a new Indesign user and a Creative Cloud member.  I was using the Window/Pages drop down window to view my pages alphabetically or by page number and also to determine whether or not my JPEG files were sufficiently HI-Res for the printer.  I don't know how I did it but somehow the window has changed so that now it does not have the alphabetical/numerical/Hi-Res information.  It just shows the pages in a two page spread in numerical order.  How can I restore the window so that I will be able to view the information as I did previously.
    Your help will be appreciated,

When will we see mp3 players from Creative that utilize X FI?

"I guess a new firmware comes out only when there are sufficient complains, demands or a major problem with the current firmware. "
Yea, looks like that, but in dooing it this way they are on defence. Defence gives few happy customers because they have to ask and ask agein. When it comes the customer take the credit for it and Creative are just sitting with the blame.
If they on the other side try to figure out what is popular in the current situation, try to give their customer this, they are on "attac" situation.
This way customer will praise "the company" and feel that it takes care of it's assets. A big customer base with happy customers (never all, can never be managed) is a great asset to any firm and specialy if you like Creative want to make many diffrent models of the same product, because it's her you find the customers that always are on look for the newest and most popular thing and that is what these customer make an item, or destroy it.

  • BEEPS--brand spanking new; and it just beeps.

I just bought my Macbook today and tried to turn it on and I got continuous sets of three beeps...(beep;beep;beep;...beep;beep;beep)I sometimes get a greeting chime (the normal sound) and sometimes it goes to the "select language" but then the screen goes black and then just beeps. I've tried everything: RAM reset (cmnd; cntrl; p r); default (taking battery out and holding pwr button for 10sec; etc.) I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING and nothing works.
I grew up with Macs, and the family went to Windows, and now I'm a college student and always wanted to go back to Mac(just not enough money); and finally did and this is what I get? I'm upset!
I haven't done anything to it. I'm a little irritated. What should I do?
    aaron

I bought a new macbook on March 26th. Powered it up for the first time on April 8th and the same thing happened to me. I checked the ram and it was covered in something white along the connectors. Cleaned it off with a microfiber cloth and reinstalled the ram. After that I at least made it past the blue screen to the choice of a language, then screen went gray again. I powered down and waited then powered on again, same thing three beeps and gray screen. I took it to the Apple store and the "genius" told me they put grease on the ram modules and that was the white substance on the connectors. He replaced the ram and the computer runs just fine now. He said the three beeps is a signal that the problem is the ram. Hope this helps.

  • Brand-spanking new battery, but still shuts down when unplugged!!

A few days ago, my 2006 MacBook would shut down when I disconnect it from the power adapter. To restart the laptop, I must have the power adapter connected. That gray screen with the apple stays longer than usual, ~5 seconds. I reset the SMC, PRAM, and checked the battery condition in the System Profiler. It had 500 charge cycles, so I went ahead and bought a new battery.
PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED. Even with a brand new, fully charged battery, the laptop shuts down when I disconnect the power adapter. I used my boyfriend's adapter to charge the battery and the issue persists. I did the whole resetting stuff, no luck. Battery is on charge cycle 2 and in normal condition. I'm up to date on software updates.
Anybody know what is going on and how to resolve this??? Please help!

Okay, and you've done the various resets, so the next things that come to mind are:
    1) Bad DC-in board, which is the Magsafe Board in the newer machines. Instructions for replacement are here(you can also order parts & tools): http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Core-2-Duo-Magsafe-Board/5 20/1. Obviously, if your machine is in warranty, have the Apple store fix the computer.
    2) Faulty logicboard. If this is the case, you want to just work with the computer as-is, or sell it and invest the money in a new machine.

  • Who has a brand spanking new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo?  Comments?

    Hi,
Ok, it's been almost 3 months since I posted a similar post asking for experiences with the new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo.
Please let me know how things are working, whether you went 5400 or 7200 internal (my main concern), pros and cons, size of screen (15" or 17"), etc...
Got my eyes on a 17", but don't know which internal to do.
    Thanks!
PS - I may go iMac 24" (because it has Firewire 800) and keep this ol' PB G4 1 gightz for portability... thoughts?

If you want to use Logic, then 15 inch screen is a must. There is not enough > space on the 13 inch to view Logic, especially when you open the soft synths.
well yes... or, in my case, the 15 inch screen was still not enough so I went for the 17. it has exactly the same res as the 20" cinema display which I was already used to with logic, so I'm happy. plus I never use this machine as my laptop to carry around (I kept my powerbook for that) so I didn't need to compromise on getting something that was still not too big to be a comfortable laptop. but I think if you do want to work with logic effectively and still have a laptop that's a practical size to use as a general laptop, the 15" is the right choice.
what internal speed drive did you go with? 5400 or 7200
I went for the 7200rpm drive. have you read all the information out there on the net about the new PMR technology that's used on the 160/5400 and 200/4200 drive options in the MBPs? there are some very comprehensive benchmarks that have been run which show that there's not as much of a dramatic difference anymore between the 7200 and the 5400. for some operations under certain conditions, the 5400 actually appeared to be faster.
you're not planning to use the internal drive for audio though, are you?
my reasoning for getting the 7200 drive is the following. OSX permanenty and automatically uses disk-based virtual memory just in regular operation. it is constantly creating and reading swap files, as well as just referencing little bits of whatever data that the apps and the system need to run. this VM use becomes heavier the more your actual physical RAM starts being used up. now seeing as I know that I'm going to be running heavy logic sessions, using up as much RAM as I can get with samples and just general everything.. I decided I needed to have the snappiest system drive I could get. even given the benchmarks for the PMR drives, I still felt that fast read/write access speeds and the fastest seek time possible is what I needed to have optimal performance. sure a 5400rpm PMR drive might have great specs for a lot of things. but when the system needs to be able to find whatever swap files or system resource as quickly as possible, I still think you can't beat a disk that is just physically spinning faster.
the other thing I've done is this. when I first got the machine, I reformatted it and did my own custom install of OSX. traditional drives perform best when they are less than half full. from what I've read, anything down to 30% full is still on an improving curve, and maybe it gets better still even less full. so I scaled back the install to as lean a system as I could. I've installed only the most important apps that I need, and I definitely did not install the iwork and office trial software. after that, I used software called monolingual to remove even more language localizations (which are added with app support) on top of what I had already left out in my custom install. this got me back almost another GB of space. also, my itunes library is not on my MBP.. I've kept it on my powerbook. the only times I ever want to listen to music from my itunes library on the MBP is when the powerbook is nearby anyway, seeing as the powerbook is the only machine that I ever take anywhere. so, the library just appears in itunes on the MBP as shared music. my iphoto library is locally stored on my MBP though, because iphoto runs so much faster on this machine.. but this is the only concession to include personal files that I've made on the MBP. so, out of a 100GB system drive, I still have 62GB of free space left, and I'll keep it as close to that as I can.
as for my project audio and my sound library, it's all on an external FW800 drive. but I'm also considering getting an e-SATA card and getting a drive for that, because it will be even faster and will free up the FW bus to have full-bandwidth use of something like liquid mix. we'll see.
anyway, so far so good. like I said in my first post, logic is running like a demon. in general, this machine is running real fast for everything, like a fast desktop.
but I think the problem with your question is.. it's going to be hard for anyone to be able to tell you how it would have been had they gotten a different drive. I have no idea if my system would be running logic any less fast if I'd gone with the 5400. my instincts tell me that maybe it'd have slightly less of an edge, but I can't really say. it's probably true that if I was using my 7200 drive less cautiously than I am, and that it was getting close to full, then it would probably slow down a bit more dramatically than a 5400 would have, if I had one of those and it was getting full. this is to do with the fact that higher data density on the same sized platter can mean faster seek times only when they are starting to get fuller, and also to do with aspects of how PMR disks work. but I think that a well managed and lean 7200 drive that is much more than half full will still give you a slightly perkier system than a 5400 PMR drive used at its best. there's not really any way I can know this for sure though.
end of the day, I don't honestly think logic would run like a dog with a 5400rpm PMR drive. but if you want the absolute best performance you can get, you're better off keeping a lean system drive, trying to keep it at least only half full or better.. and then using a fast external for your projects and sound library. in that case, I don't see the point of getting a 160GB internal drive, just so that you have more space to keep empty.
but if you want to use the machine for multiple purposes and you could really use that extra disk space, then I still think logic will run more than fine. compared to your powerbook, there's no way you'll be dissapointed.. it's like having a dual 2.5ghz G5, if not faster, only in a less than one inch thick case that you can carry in your bag.

  • Brand spanking new, please help.

Hello, I'm extremely new to all of this and I was wondering if Oracle has its own programming language to make applications. I know there is PL/SQL, but what I mean is that is there a language that oracle uses thats actually compiled into making real applications like in VB, C++/#, Java, etc? Or would I HAVE to make applications in some other programming language like the ones already mentioned and just use a dll/ocx (in the case of ms windows) to interact with oracle?
I've already tried looking up the developer suite but everything looks java based and/or library based (for other programming languages).
Please reply back to me at my email address due to the fact that I rarely get the chance to come back to this forum. My email address is [email protected]
Thank you for your help. :)

SQL is fun, but what's really cool is how it interacts the a web interface (a web browser). JSP (JavaServer Pages) is my favorite, but you can also use ASP (Microsoft's Active Server Pages) or PHP (a web scripting language usually associated with MySQL).
Armed with JSP, you can do practically anything and everything! Easy connectivity, scalabilty, workflow, and best of all Web-Based user interface forms! If you need help getting your environment set up, you can reach me at [email protected]
My favorite book (unquestionably) is Paul Whitehead's JSP Blueprint book. I call it the 'bible' because he covers all the important topics with clear examples without getting egotistical. Don't bog yourself down with too much of the pure "Java" stuff in the beginning of the book, skip a chapter or two and dive into examples that make sense. The more you learn, the more the other chapters make more sense. here's the URL at Amazon... again, the is the BEST JavaServer Pages book I own (and I have quite a few!)

  • Brand-spanking new T61's screen is blank after hitting power on button.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  I've been at this for over 6 hours.  I've tried everything in the lame troubleshooting manual, and almost everything from the Lenova's website.  Here's the deal:  I hit the power button... blank screen.  Battery, A/C, (Z) all on.  The fan whirrs to life, the HD makes some subtle sounds. I look up--AH! Black screen, nothing.. and it's quiet out there, too quiet (No beeps, just the constant whirring of that fan, mocking me!)  I've done all possible combinations of re/dis/connecting the A/C cord and battery.  I've reseated the HD and DIMM.  I pounded several FN key combinations for a good amount of time, and nothing happened. Just to see if I could make it beep, I held down several keys until I might hear that "beep...beep...beep...", but Oh No, this T61 is giving me the cold shoulder. But, hey! The DVD drive works! Oh baby, I'm in business! It seems to be able to read CDs. Maybe if I put in a movie, I can sit back and pretend I'm watching it; but that's only fun for so long.
    Now, for the questions:
    1) I go to this link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-45707&selectarea=SUPPORT&tempsel... . And check out all the various things for it. It says: 1) Reseat DIMM. Derrr, ok, done!  Power on, nothing. 2) System board.  Hmmm, system board? What about it? Would they like me to drop kick the system board?  It would be enjoyable, but maybe a little unproductive.  What's it mean by "system board"?  What do I do with the system board (1)?
    2) Also, how do I check to see if the LCD is properly connected? (How do I reseat the LCD connectors (2)?)
    3) The power is fine, AC cord and battery are fine. It's not on standby mode, not overheating, the LCD cannot be illuminated by a flashlight.  How do I test the laptop with an external LCD (3)?  I plugged in my monitor to the laptop's side port, but nothing happened when I powered the laptop on, so what am I doing wrong? [Option 3 might be my best bet to fix this.]
    4) I can't see much, so I'm not sure if there's a problem with the BIOS. If there is, how do I go about fixing that?
     Additional info:
Although I would love to, but I can't test this laptop with different hardware since I don't happen to have any random T61 laptop parts lying around.  I would love love love to get an expert to do this, but I love to learn and love to save money.  Warranty? Ship it in? Nope, I'm gonna be 3000 miles from the USA soon.
    Questions? Comments? Criticisms?
    -Thanks for reading

As a last ditch effort try removing the battery and power supply, press the power button 50 times holding for 30 seconds on the last one, plug in power supply and try to start up without the battery.

  • 40 gig and 60g Creative Zen Nomad probl

I'm sure these are dead horses on the board but recently I've had two players cop out on me and of course the phone lines at creative don't offer any help, other than advising me to buy a new one of their products (no thanks). Here's the deal:
<SPAN class=postbody>one freezes on building library screen and there is absolutely nothing i can do to get off that screen the other one just goes to the rescue mode after the eax screen and i can't do anything from there aside from rebooting.

The?BEFORE you post, READ THIS FIRST (FAQ) post links to information about this error here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Smart Volume Management and the Creative Zen To

In Creative MediaSource Organizer, under the Tools menu, there is an option to analyze the volume of all tracks in the library. I have not run this analysis yet. Two questions:
.) Will this process alter the MP3s on my hard disk, or just alter how the music is played in MediaSource?
    2. Will this process actually normalize the volume of all the tracks on my Zen Touch? (This would be awesome, no more fiddling around with the volume control during random play.)
    Thanks in advance.

. No, it won't alter the music.
    2. Yes, but you'll have to copy the analysed tracks to the Zen afterwards (you can't analyse on the Zen itself). Also the value of doing it is questionable in terms of actual effect, so you might want to test it first to see what you think.

hi. i live in the us but i am currently visiting in paris, france. i brought my g3 ibook (new to me) and my creative zen vision with me but no software to transfer music from the zen to the mac. that is what i need to do now to continue with some video projects i'm working on. i've tried to use itunes, real player, and nowhere in the software do i get any indication that my zen is plugged in. i've gone into itunes and authorized this computer... that's the most "advanced" thing i've gone. when i plug the zen into the mac, the zen does turn on but there is no icon. i've searched all over the forums for hours now and can't figure out what to do next. thanks for any help. ~laura

    Hello laura
Creative don't supply drivers for Macs, only windows, but there is third party driver support for Macs from XNJB
    http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/
Check the device list to see if yours is listed.
